(This is a long quest with a lot of TEMPORARY items involved to begin with...but it's a very fun quest with a really cool Roleplaying element...the Whisperlings! Who knows what other quests will get us "closer" to them, and be able to use their abilities.)

Tiamon Aroo is the Tailoring Merchant in the Building near the bard's camp fire in Shadeweaver's Thicket.

    You say, 'Hail, Tiamon Aroo'

Tiamon Aroo says 'Greetings _____, watch where you step for the [needle clawed hoppers] are just about everywhere!

You say, 'what needle clawed hoppers?'

Tiamon Aroo says 'Those wretched vermin swarm to our city and trade routes in search of the refuse left by careless travelers who pass through these parts. They are just about useless and their stench brings bile to my throat. I would have set out to poison the whole lot of them if it was not for their unique [claws].

    You say, 'what claws?'

Tiamon Aroo says 'The claws of the hoppers act as a [spirit anchor]. They are specialized in tearing into the fiber of the shadow beings that roam the thicket. I find these claws useful in [binding] the silk fashioned by the [shadeweavers].

    You say, 'what spirit anchor?'

Tiamon Aroo says 'A spirit can only materialize within our realm by binding themselves to an object that is a spirit anchor. Some bones and stones have such properties. A spirit anchor can also do the most damage to the material form of such spirits when used as a weapon. I use the claws of the hoppers as a sewing needle of sorts to [bind the silk] made by the [shadeweavers]. A standard sewing needle would only pass through the substance of the silk. The hopper claws can pierce through their ethereal fabric effectively.

(The previous part of this quest doesn't need to be done, but rather gives insight into what Groo McManus means by the "Spirit Anchor")

Groo McManus is in the White Building on the left following the road out of Shar Vahl into Shadeweavers Thicket. He's a Barbarian.
    You say, 'Hail, Groo McManus'

Groo McManus says 'Greetings adventure seeker. I have come from afar to study this strange thicket. The spirits are strong within this region, but they are secretive as well. I am willing to impart my wisdom to those who will aid me in my exploration. Are you [interested?]

    You say, 'I am interested'

Groo McManus says 'Very well then! Let us begin. First you must attune yourself with the nature of spirits. For this you must learn to find a spiritual anchor. Find such a thing within the crater that surrounds Shar Vahl and return it to me. Then we may continue. I cannot tell you more, but there is a Vah Shir who has the knowledge that you seek. Seek him out in this thicket to learn what you can.

Give GrooMcManus the "A Needle Thin Claw"

Groo McManus says 'Excellent! You have done well. I can sense that you are in tune with the spirits around you. Take this, for you will need it in your next task. When you are [ready] for your next lesson let me know.

    You gain experience!!

    You say, 'I am ready'

Groo McManus says 'You have learned a fraction of the nature of the spirit. To exist within our realm they must become a part of our realm by binding themselves within material. The hoplings claws have evolved to tear spirits from their material anchors. A disrupted anchor will normally send a spirit to the planes in which they belong, but sometimes the spirit becomes lost. This has happened within the crater that surrounds Shar Vahl. We must do what we can to [help] the lost spirit. The lost spirit had found the nearest anchor to take refuge in when its own anchor was destroyed. The spirit now lies trapped within the very claws of the hopling that had tried to destroy it. Will you help?

Groo McManus says 'Near the south bridge of Shar Vahl city, a mysterious rock formation hangs precariously within the crater. When you have arrived, you stand beneath the rock and call to the wind, speak the word 'Lumanes', be sure to clear all thoughts from your mind when doing so. If we are not too late, a kindred spirit will speak with you. Take your discoveries to my friend Shavra in the crater, she will know what to do.

(Again, doesn't need to be done, but who can say no to free experience?)

    Your Location is -852.56, 890.03, -343.91
You say, 'Hail, Dar Khura Shavra'

Dar Khura Shavra says 'Lo there wanderer. Something is amiss within the region, have you not felt it? I sense a [whisperling] nearby.

    You say, 'what whisperling?'

Dar Khura Shavra says 'A whisperling, who brings us dreams, you cannot see them. They do no harm, but I sense anger in them. They have made an enemy. If you are willing to aid us in our research, please seek Groo McManus in the shadeweavers thicket, he has some insight on these whisperlings.

The Whisperling can be called (not found, but called) under the glowing rock formation NEG580, POS560
    Sit and say "Lumanes"

    You say, 'Lumanes'

a whisperling speaks softly, 'Lumanes _____, Our cousin, a spirit of frost, is trapped. We may not intervene. Only one of flesh may aid us. Are you one [able to help]? '

You say, 'I am able to help'

a whisperling speaks softly, 'Then we thank you. We will lure it here. But beware, it uses our cousins strength to protect itself.'

    A frost covered hopling attacks

He has about 30 Hitpoints, hits for 1 damage 99% of the time, Burst of Flames (not often) for 4 damage
But, I couldn't do much more than 1 damage to him 90% of the time, and did maybe 3 and 6 the other 2 times I did do more than 1 damage. In other words, VERY easy fight.

You have slain a frost covered hopling!
    You gain experience!!
--You have looted a A Frosted Claw.--
    (A Frosted Claw - NO TRADE/TEMPORARY - Primary Piercing - DMG:2 DLY:25 SV COLD: +1)
    TEMPORARY!

(Note: The frost covered hopling can be summoned any time by saying "Lumanes" in that spot! It's basically a newbie Monster Generator! I got experience at 4, and with the easy fight, he can be killed over and over for experience. Hopefully Verant doesn't realize this and change it -=| )

Go back to Shavra (who is very close) and give her the "A Frosted Claw"

Dar Khura Shavra says 'Oh _____! This is a whisperling, and she is beautiful! You must find a way to free her of this anchor. Take her to Ragnar, he may know what to do. Let me put her in this bag to keep her safe for now.

Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl has been adjusted by 1.
    You gain experience!!

You get a "Frosted Bag" from her. It's a 0.0 NO TRADE object

Spiritist Ragnar is in the Var Shal Alchemy Shop west of the Bank

    You say, 'Hail, Spiritist Ragnar'

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Well hello... How may I help you?

Give the Frost Bag to Spirit Ragnar

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Eh? What have we here?'' Ragnar examines the frosted claw carefully. He closes his eyes and begins to chant while holding the claw cupped between his hands. As he opens his eyes he nods at you and begins to speak. ''You have done well to bring her here _____. This is a whisperling, her name is Siver. She is very young, so it is hard for me to understand her. From what I gather, she has an important task to fulfill, but I am still unsure what that task may be. Please take her with you for now, I think that is her wish. Perhaps Grawleh will be able to assist us further, and maybe even find a more suitable anchor for her. I think it would be wise to show her to him.

    You gain experience!!
You also get Claw of Frost.

    (Claw of Frost - NO TRADE/TEMPORARY - Primary Piercing - DMG:3 DLY:25 SV COLD: +1)
    TEMPORARY!

Elder Spiritist Grawleh examines the contents of the bag carefully. This is no ordinary spirit _____. It is a whisperling, a bringer of dreams. You are quite lucky, I think she will go with you. She will be able to protect you from cold magic. If you need more protection you can call on her to help you endure the cold. This is how the Dar Khura weave their spells, we ask the spirits for their aid. This scroll will show you how to call on her for her protection. You will also need to construct her a more suitable spirit anchor. This claw will not contain her much longer. Please hurry to Ragnar with the claw and a fresh [bloodling carapace]. It may buy us some time before she fades away.

    You gain experience!!
    He gives back "Siver's Claw"
    (Siver's Claw - NO TRADE/TEMPORARY - Primary Piercing - DMG:3 DLY:23 DEX:+1 SV COLD: +1)
    TEMPORARY!

You may also receive a minor spell.

    You say, 'what bloodling Carapace?'
(I may have done something wrong like cancelled the conversation, because he didn't answer about the carapaces, but they drop from "a Cht`Thk bloodling" in Shadeweaver's Thicket newbie area...you may want to collect 8 in total, you'll need 7 more later. You've been warned.)

Bring Spiritist Ragnar a "Bloodling Carapace" and the Claw of Frost.

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Well done _____, I hope it isnt too late.'' Ragnar begins to chant over the carapace and the claw, holding each in opposite hands. A soft light travels from the claw to the carapace as the claw turns to dust. Ragnar opens his eyes and begins to speak, ''It has worked, but all we have done is buy ourselves more time. While you were away, I have been speaking to Master Barkhem. He has a shield frame that can support these carapaces. You will need to craft such a shield by including this carapace and into the frame along with enough to fill each slot. You are doing quite well young _____, Siver has grown a little stronger. You can make use of her innate dexterity by weaving this spell.''

Spiritist Ragnar hands _____ a scroll before he continues to speak. ''When you have completed the construction of the shield, return it to me and I will strengthen the anchor.''

Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl got better.
    You gain experience!!

He gives you a Strengthen Scroll (bug?) and a "Frosted Carapace".
It's only a 0.0 NO TRADE item! You can actually pause at this part of the quest! (but why would you want to?)

Master Barkhem is in the Armory to the North of the Pool in front of the Palace
    (I believe his Loc is "202.18, -167.21, -187.62")

Master Barkhem tells you, 'That'll be 3 gold 2 silver 4 copper for the Carapace Shield Frame'.

Buy the Carapace Shield Frame (this quest makes me wonder what else can be put in this frame)

Now head to Shadeweavers and get ready for a long time of running around and killing Cht`Thk bloodlings. The carapace is a pretty uncommon(rare?) drop. This may take over an hour.

Place the "Frosted Carapace" in the Carapace Shield Frame along with 7 Bloodling Carapaces and combine. You'll get a "Dull Frostweavers Shield!"
(Dull Frostweavers Shield - AC 3 DEX: +1 SV COLD:+3 5.0 wt SHM BST)

Ragnar said he'd make the shield stronger when you brought it back to him, so do that. Give the Dull Frostweavers Shield to Spirit Ragnar back in the Alchemy Shop.

Spiritist Ragnar says 'Nicely done _____. This anchor should be sufficient to keep Siver bound to this realm for a while. She is strong enough to blind your enemies with a bright flash of light now, all you have to do is call on her spirit. I still cannot make complete sense of her thoughts, I think she is trying to tell me of another whisperling entrapped within the crater. Keep an eye open for the whisperling Scorpialis.

(Scorpialis is a weapon from the TailFang Quest. I don't know if he's just giving you info on a seperate quest, or if he wants you to finish that too)

Spiritist Ragnar says 'In the meantime, you can seek out a shield made of Xakra. Xakra made of the ethereal fabric of the spirit realm. I know the Shak Dratha within the thicket are weavers of this rare form of shadow silk. Such a shield can help us strengthen the anchor, making it easier for Siver to aid you. It will also improve her health greatly. She has been through a lot and is in rather poor condition as it stands now.
Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl got better.
    You gain experience!!
You also gained the stronger version of the Frostweavers Shield
    (Frostweavers Shield - AC:4 DEX+1 SVCOLD+4 MAGIC NO TRADE)

(This appears to be the next part of the quest, but is still unsolved from what I hear)

I've read in a few places now that some people have gotten chunks of condensed shadow (or something simiar to that) from killing Shak Dratha. Can anybody confirm this? And if so, has anybody tried to do anything with them yet?

So far, I have been trying to get my faction with the Shak Dratha up, so I have not been killing them.

Finally, I found a post where someone had a pretty good answer about what Ragnar meant when he says "call on her spirit"... It was driving me crazy but I can accept that explanation.

    As far as Ragnar saying
"Spiritist Ragnar says 'In the meantime, you can seek out a shield made of Xakra. "

It almost sounds as if you should return both sheilds to Ragnar as you returned the sheild once to him already. But the idea of combining the shields with a needle in the sewing kit is also intriguing in order to anchor it, accept sheilds aren't made in sewing kits.

Has anyone SEEN a sheild, though? At this point I am unsure if the shield is a drop item. Which means that I should be killing the Shak Dratha to try to get it. Or if it is a purchased item, which means I am pretty screwed because I have been trying to get one to drop.

Okay here it is got just in the city zone away from guards, take all armor of and sit down. Now have a friend duel you and keep sitting down to make yourself easy to hit and die. Then when you respawn, go to your body and sit down in front of it and camp. The next day when you get on loot your bod and there is the NO RENT items.... And you don't loose exp for dying in a duel.

'In the meantime, you can seek out a shield made of Xakra. Xakra made of the ethereal fabric of the spirit realm. It seems to me that if you get the No Rent Xakra shield that you should give it and the Frostweaver shield to this guy, maybe along with a needle. He says "Such a shield can help US...". Earlier in the quest they mention specifically the usage of claws anchoring the spirit. So that's why I think you need the needle.

Another thought. Bard's have the song called Cinda's Charismatic Carillon which is used for tempory faction improvement. If this smith you all talk about has a shield to sell, someone aught to get this shield and see if it's a Xakra shield, and if it's No Rent, and if it's No Drop. If it's not No drop, a bard could get this shield for you to try. A rogue with sneak and hide could buy this shield for you as well.

One could try to combine this bought shield (if it's No rent) with a needle and Frostweaver Shield, or could give it to the NPC that buffed up the shield from dull.

I really doubt the tailoring skill can do this as a shield is not part of a tailor abilities. A smith on the other hand...

The shield is not No Rent or No Drop. I think it's AC 10 and all/all. It's called a palocht, and I bought it for around 6 gold, if I remember right. If anyone here has good faction with either race, try asking them about a palocht or a kal xakra palocht. The Gor brewer also sells some food and alcohol. If I remember correctly, one piece of food was a hearty meal and pretty cheap.

I tryed this shield. It is not the one Ragnar is after. He will simply give it back to you. As a matter of fact he wont even take your Frostweavers shield either so I guess he just wants the Xakra shield. I dont know if the Shak version of the blacksmith sells the right shield because I havent got the faction to buy from him or the level to kill him and all his buddies to get one to show up. I havent checked the weavers yet either. It true though that theres a hearty meal sold there and cheap. Only 1 silver 9 copper for a hearty meal is a great deal.

During one of my many corpse runs from Shar Vahl to Paludal Caverns, I came across a mob I had never seen before and I believe wholeheartedly this is the proper place to continue with the quest to get the xacra shield... The mob was a Shak Dratha Shadeweaver!!! NO, not a Shadowcaller, not an Earthcaller, an honest to goodness Shadeweaver!!! He was wandering around in the tunnels close to the Paludal zone line. This was the only time I had seen him, after hunting in this region for about a level and a half. Unfortunately for my he conned threateningly=( so in my excitement I slew him to see if he dropped a new piece for the quest. All I got was 5cp... On the up side though I found him to be a greeny caster to a naked lvl 21 Beastlord... Guess it's time to build faction with the Shak Dratha by killing Gor Taku. Anyway, for all you out there who wish to further this quest, I hope you find him, and remember to build faction first:) Good luck and good hunting.

    I think I'll try this...
I have a 49 Monk, I'm going to do the quest up until the Dratha portion. When I come to that point, I'm going to try and hand the shield over to the Dratha Smith. Maybe it'll prompt a response, or he'll just hit me.

Time well spent in the name of science and questing.

    # Jan 08 2002 at 5:25 AM Rating: Default
I've taken my monk to the room with the smiths. Using sneak, I can buy from the Gor smith, and the shield is called a palocht. When you kill him, his corpse disappears, just like any other merchant. The Shak smith doesn't sell anything, and his corpse remains when killed. I had to use FD/sneak to deal with him. No response to hails either. There's also a brewer in that room, and the Gor/Shak versions work the same way. I gave a shield I bought from the Gor to the Shak smith, and all that happened is he equipped it.

One other thing. When you kill one of the static spawns in the caverns, a member of the other race usually spawns. So if you kill the Gor smith, the Shak smith will spawn in it's place. That's why you usually find the cavern filled with Gor. Since they usually leave people alone, people kill all the Shak in the area, and move on.
    Confused
    # Jan 07 2002 at 5:04 PM Rating: Decent
Well I'm confused now. I worked my faction up on both of them and are now dubious to each one. I walked in the cave and explored all of it but the smith is Gor Taku when I went down there. Now if I get KoS to him this won't work. I searched ever nook and cranny in that cave and only seen Gor Taku and every now and then seen a Shak Dratha.

The Shak Dratha I did see wass a shadow reaver but couldn't take him on because pets are really stupid in these caves and some stupid beetle was chasing me out. I went back but couldn't find it again. The next day I went in with one of my other char and didn't see anything on track. I looked all over and all I seen was Gor taku. And yes I used a map of Eqatlas and marked of room by room. I'm just wondering if there is shak dratha town somewhere cause this seems like a gor taku town. I went to check out the other camps on the high lvl side but they see thru invis and were red to me. So I gave up. Need to hold off on killing gor taku but them damn poachers are gona get it.

I must say they make it extremly hard to pull poachers from the cave. I was pulling some to the newbies up there but none would follow me they would all fall of the path back down. Unless I took baby steps. Hummm although you can stand at the top and nuke and DoT them and they can never reach you easy xp. But verrant (Can't spell it just play it) wouldn't like that now would they ;)
    STILL TRYING
    # Jan 06 2002 at 9:47 AM Rating: Default
I was hanging out after getting my shiels back from Rangar and all of a sudden the wisperling spawned under the rock. I was not paying that much attention as I thought someone was calling up the frosthopper but as I stood up and looked there was a bright shiny column of green light and I thought it was siver! I could not target it and it was gone really fast. Any one else seen this happen? Also maybe the no rent armor that those litle aliens drop has something to do with this quest since there is so much other no rent stuff?
    RE: STILL TRYING
    # Jan 06 2002 at 12:20 PM Rating: Decent
When Siver spawns, she is not targetable. However, the green light you saw would have been accompanied by a message in your chat window (provided you are close enough to the action) saying, "A whisperling begins to cast a spell."

The light under the rock let's people who are aware of her to know she is there for you to say "Lumanes." But to those who have not yet discovered the quest, the spell effect and casting message gives them the clue that there is something more to the rock than originally meets the eye. ;)

I might have a possible solution to the xakra shield. In my search for shadow silk, I came upon these tailoring recepies on eqtrader.com:

Shadow silk (necro shadow-bound armor quest, as well as the monk Robe of the Lost Circle quest) [trivial 51?]: shadow wolf pelt, silk swatch, and necromancer spell scroll "Gather Shadows"
Large shadow silk (necro shadow-bound armor quest): 2 shadow wolf pelts, silk swatch, and necromancer spell scroll "Gather Shadows"

Maybe making this silk and either turining it in to Ragnar or using them in the shield frame?

I don't know where to get the silk you use to make the swatches or shadow wolfs pelts here on Luclin and am not ready to head to Norrath, so I have not tried anything yet.

Forgot to add that maybe we need to talk to the Shak Dratha to learn what ingredients we need to make the shadow silk here on Luclin.

I got up to the part where you speak Lumanes to the rock, and the spirit talked to me. It said are you able? And I said I am able to help. Then nothing happened:( It probably is broken on my server or something. From reading these postings, it sounds like this thing pops pretty quickly. I even logged out and whispered it again to the spirit, and it said the same thing, and nothing happened.

The hopper only spawns for a few seconds and then despawns unless you engage him in combat. I recomend you stand up and face a little ne before you say "I am able to Help." then imediately click (F8) on the creature and start your attack. If you are not facing the hopper when it appears, it could spawn and despawn without you knowing and you might think nothing happened:)

That could be, and is probably worth the time to investigate further. It would be helpful to know what the shield was named in the blacksmith's inventory and its attributes (Lore, Magic, etc.), but any of us should be able to investigate and confirm it. It would be interesting to discover that it is an item that can be simply bought from a Shak Dratha blacksmith.

I, for one, would love to get to the bottom of this possible Whisperlings - Scorpialis connection, though I would be rather disappointed to find that it is a dead-end, and that Scorpialis is doomed to being nothing but a lack-luster, beginning piercer.

I am still working on my Shak Dratha faction by killing every Gor Taku I see right now -- whether that will ultimately prove to be a mistake in the long run or not. I have managed to raise my Shak Dratha faction to Dubious from Threateningly in a dozen or so Gor Taku kills.

I have been trying this diffrently. I have been killing the goru tu (Sp?) trying to become freindly with the Shak Dratha. This may be a way of buying or getting taught how to make it. I have spent most my time killing the goru ppl and still dub to them and thret to shak dratha. I have killed maybe 30 or more. Can you change your faction with these 2 buy killing enough of them. Has anyone else tried. Even if it doesn't work it makes it easier on picking out witch Shak dratha you want to kill. Just walk around till you find one with a shield and kill it. Just a sugestion.

Well, I've managed to murder both my Shak Dratha and Gor Taku factions. So far killin' them has earned me very little, but it may be the higher level Dratha's who carry the shields(like the guards at the camp and tunnel entrance) With all the rare drops in Luclin it's hard to be sure of these things, so I'm just gonna' follow my own advice. Kill 'em all and let the NPCs sort them out.

Out of necessity, I have also been working the same angle on the Gor Taku and Shak Dratha.

It is almost inevitable that the Gor Taku will wind up KOS to anyone pursuing a couple of the Ghulam Armor quests, as well as the Talisman of Flame, the Hero's Shroud, and the Blessed Champion's Cape quests, due to the number of Loda Kai you have to kill in gathering the items needed.

I suppose there is a way to tightrope that, but once attacked by a Gor Taku, I assumed that they wanted to call the tune and commenced to dancing to it.

Killing Loda Kai MOBs raises faction with Shar Vahl guards and lowers with Loda Kai and Gor Taku, so my faction with the Gor Taku is pretty much trashed by now anyway. They con "Ready to Attack" now, but the Shak Dratha still con "Threateningly" so far. So, the point made by both Koolaid and Ranias about the difficulty in raising faction with the Shak Dratha is apparently quite valid.

I am going to be so pissed if I get farther along and find that I have chosen the wrong side in this little fight, though. Hey, the Gor Taku brought the fight to my Beastlord, so he is taking it back to them, and hoping somewhere along the way that it will pay off in finding something further about the shield, too.

Good luck to all. I will keep you posted on further developments.

I have been going on the same slant and I can say that you can improve your faction with them, but it goes VERY slowly.

Before getting involved with this quest, I had killed few Shak Dratha and I was KOS with them. After doing the shield quest and thinking that getting on their good side was the right thing to do, I started killing the Gor Taku en mass. It took prolly 50+ kills just to get my faction back up to Dubious. I am going to keep on this track for as long as I can get xp from the little Gor Taku and see what my faction ends up being.... Then I may seek out the Shak Dratha smith I have read about.....

I see alot of comments about combining this and combining that but has anyone tried simply handing Ragnar the Xakra Dal shield and the Frostweavers' shield?

The way the text read after I turned in the dull frostweaver shield that he knew what to do he just needed the materiels...

Has anyone tried to combine Scorpialis with the Siver claw or Frosted Claw...or any other part of this quest? If they DO combine, maybe giving it to Ragnar will get better results...?

    This is a compilation:

Ragnar talks of Shak Dratha and Xakra armor - I believe the person below has a good idea- talk to the Shak Dratha Smith (near Warlord) - see if he talks (my faction is blown cause i been killing the Shaks - but imma start killing the brown aliens now). I bet he'll tell us what is needed.

also has anyone tried to combine the xakra shield found (is it Xakra Dal?) with a needle and the frostweavers?

those 2 things are next and seem logical

I wonder if this part is faction based. I know that a lot of people are reporting starting out at "Threateningly" faction with the Shak Dratha. I have killed 'tons' of Gor Taku and only just gotten up to "Dubiously" with the Shak Dratha. I have not yet tried getting down to the smith, as the two factions tend to co-habitate (even though they are supposed to hate eachother).

Perhaps this quest is only doable if you have "Amiable" or better faction with Shak Dratha.... And I am not sure how many Gor Taku kills it would take to get there.... /sigh

Does anyone know if there are any other ways to get good faction with Shak Dratha? Is killing Gor Taku the ONLY way? Well, at least I am still getting xp off of the little buggers.... =)

It looks like that, but only the interim items that ultimately lead to the Frostweaver's Shield are NO RENT. The resulting shield itself is NO DROP, but it is a fairly nice shield for the effort to get it and the level at which someone would pursue the quest.

Has any one tried combining Xkara Dal and Loda Kai armor? Seems to be a good match if the it is the way you discribe... perhaps one of the warrior smithing quests talks about it.

I Started this quest at lvl 4, when I steped uped to the Whisperling rock, the Frost Covered Hopling showed up, and instantly began attacking me, HE DID NOT DISSAPEAR, so I DO Believe it has to do with lvl, he almost killed me as I had no armor on me at al but the cloak, luckily I had been handed down a magical weapon earlier whilst running around, thats the only reason I was able to hit him.....Anyway I thought that might clear things up, as to why he was disappearing on you all....I am a BST VAH, By the way :)

I once saw a player saying the name of his whisperling (Siver), which was summoned that way, and she began to heal him.

Possibly this seems to be pokémonlike thingy which you can give certain powers at certain levels (or stages in this seemingly long quest) by handing in the shield and the scrolls you get to the right persons...

I´m curious how powerful the whisperling can get ;-)

    # Dec 27 2001 at 11:39 PM Rating: Decent
I was reading through the posts and had a thought. Obviously the Xakra shield is hard to come by, and you wouldn't want to finally win one only to toss it away.
But, has anyone tried combining the knife (Scorpialis) with it? Or, for that matter, combining the knife with Frostweaver's shield.
It seems to me that the way he talks about them (the knife and the shield) that they may (eventually?) be combined to make one item.
    Shak Dratha Shadeweavers
    # Dec 27 2001 at 6:17 AM Rating: Default
I've taken my lvl 13 Vah'Shir warrior in to the caves a few times, once near the zone to Paludal Caverns, there I ran into a Shak Dratha I didn't see before, a Shak Dratha Shadeweaver.

These are Necro's, they have atleast one poison spell, lifetap, and a pet.
Both he and his pet conned light blue, but they still kicked my *** pretty quick.
They are like most necro and SK npc's, undercons, they can deal out more dmg then their lvl leads to believe.

Since Ragnar talks about the Shak Dratha being "weavers of this rare form of shadow silk", I suggest taking on these Shadeweavers to see if they drop the needed Xakra silk.

Apparantly, the Shak Dratha Shadeweavers drop a form of ethereal armor known as Xakra Dal. It seems likely that this is what we're looking for. Anyone find a shield yet?

To be more specific. The wandering Shak Dratha in the northern part of the caves all have a chance of dropping the Xakra Dal armor. Xakra Dal armor is the metal version of the Xakra armor and like its silk counterpart... its no rent. Only problem is its very rare. I spent 3 days, 8 hours a day killin every wanderer in the place and out of those 3 days I still didnt get a full suit of the Xakra Dal. I didnt find a shield either. I just got tired of lookin.

The wanderers are easily identified on tracking due to the fact that thier names are the only ones capitalized in the entire area.

Also their Gor Taku counterparts drop stone hearts for which I have yet to find a use.

I have slaughtered all of the caves time and time again and these wanderers are the only ones that drop both the hearts and the Xakra Dal armor. I too think that the shield we need is there. Quite frankly I have run out of patience for it.

I also have been looking for a way to make the Xakra Dal armor permanent and have yet to find it.

Have you tried the Shak Dratha smith that spawns from time to time in the same room as the warlord (with the barkeep and the drunkards too).
It would likely have to be the Shak Dratha smith, not the named Gor Taku one..
    Just a thought. :)

I know that you can make the silk from permanent but combining the item of Xakra with like item of tattard leather armor with a Claw needle. That makes Shadow hopper hide armor which is better the you standard leather armor in ac and it gives plus to magic save. I am thinking that you would need to do the same for this "metal" version. Guessing you would need Banded armor and like Xarkra Dal armor peice. Just do not know what the item you would need to combine the two. If it is like the Claw needle it is most likely a quest given item.

Do not know but it is an idea that some can try.. I do not have the skill in smithing. And the leather version is trival around 28 for those that care.

    Good luck.

I think that the warrior quest gives you an anvil which is condidered a spirit anchor, and also a hammer. The thing is, this is class specific and would suck if only warriors could bind the armor.

has anyone tried to combine the xakra dal with the bloodling armor they are using the carapace as a spirit anchor and that is what is needed with the xakra kel(the claw needle)maybe there is a way of combining them in a forge

I don't know how to continue this quest either. After getting the first shield, I decided to try to continue the next part of the quest. I checked websites, such as this one, with no such luck. Then I realized he mentioned "Scorpialis", which is also the name of Tailfang's dagger, so I tried giving it to him. He gave it back. Then I thought maybe I should give it to Shavra, because she removed the whisperling from the claw. She also gave it back. I really want to know how to solve this quest...

I've seen messages that the Scorpialis dagger was turned in, and that the shield was turned in. Has anyone tried turning in both the dagger and shield at the same time? Just a thought.
