The armor is great for the lower levels. Only problem I had was getting some of the required items. Finally just bought the giant snake fang (1pp) and a couple of others that were just handy.

I've done this quest with a couple different classes and they all got xp and faction + . It's real quick to loot or buy white wolf skins then keep turning them in. You can't use the wristband if you're not a beastie, but who cares if you're just trying to level quick as a noob! (yeah I know your skills don't go up that way, but they go pretty quick if you use them.)

I play of marelliuyl thull (something like that) and its seriously bugged. i did the first and second part of this quest, then it went back to quest 1. i got another bracer, but now it keeps asking for white wolf skins. i collected kile 10 and turned them all in, i got a ton of exp, and like 10 bracers. still i cant go onto the next quest.

it really sucks bad, i needed the other parts.

There IS a newbie armor quest NPC for barbarian beastlords now, but he's bugged; Won't answer hails, and nobody can figure out what text he might respond to. Every other barbarian class has the newbie armor now, and if SOE will ever get around to fixing the NPC, so will beastlords.

Re: friendly bears - It's amazing how many people can't answer a simple question, especially (like the alleged level 52 druid) those who should know better. Bears in surefall glade are on the QRGProtectedAnimals faction, which can be raised by doing certain surefall quests; Killing one of those bears causes negative faction with Jaggedpine Treefolk (druids), the protected animals faction, and the rangers (can't remember the faction name). While it's true that Holly Windstalker will assist bears and wolves in qeynos hills, that has nothing to do with the bears in surefall. Aside from surefall, jappedpine forest is the only other zone I know of where normal animals give bad faction hits outside of certain planes (in JF, the animals to avoid are bears, wolves and cats).

Re: AGHHH! - Giving Cindl any number of white polar bear skins results in patchwork armor; It cannot EVER result in a wrath orc wristband.

Re: Faction Adjustments - Ebon Mask is the rogue guild in Neriak (dark elf hometown). Coalition of Tradesfolk Ill stands for Coalition of Tradesfolk Illegal (Ill has recently been changed to Underground), they're the freeport rogue guild. The reason rogues guilds dislike the Shaman guild in Halas is because Shamans worship The Tribunal (the gods of justice, police and imprisonment for your crimes); Naturally, criminals dislike them. The same is true for the Beastlords of Halas, who are on the same faction as Shamans (and are a form of holy warrior, similar to a paladin's relationship to a cleric of the same faith). Note that the rogue guild in Halas is supposed to be an exception, being bounty hunters instead of thieves...but this has been bugged for years.

And finally, we have what I wanted to post about, before I decided some clarification of other people's posts were in order:

It should be noted that handing a wrath orc wristband to Hoyce is some of the best xp anywhere in Everquest. 25 bracers equals one blue bubble of xp at level 51. Given the massive requirements for xp post-50, that's an amazing amount of xp (or, put another way, five bracers is the same xp as soloing one level 49 mob).

Update to wrath orc wristbands as an XP quest: The quest has been nerfed, and it no longer gives anywhere near as much xp; It's still a noticeable increase at low levels, just not worth doing at high levels anymore.

large tattered armor easy to make it takes 1 ruin bear fur and a pattern of what armor you want to make you can use the sowing kit in the city or bye one. The two places to get patterns to make armor is from lady in perma right next to the hales zone and also from gye in building next to sowing kit inside Hales. The armor really cheep to make and give you a nice start off
Got these items
# Oct 04 2002 at 9:02 PM Rating: Decent
These items are easy to get, and you don't have to run them in order. So don't worry about being the only newb with a full inventory of future quest items! I ran #1, then #2, then #1 again (I wanted a pair of the bracers), then bought a wrath orc wristband and did #5. A high level druid gave me a Polished Steel Ulak so I'm not going to worry about the claws, just the kilt. Very nice stuff for under level 10.

All ya need to do is put a cap pattern and a ruined bear pelt in a sewing kit or a loom and press combine. Sometimes it might now work, but I can useually make items at least one-third of the time, if not less.
RE: Where is Cap?
# Jul 12 2002 at 11:20 AM Rating: Default
The large tattered cap can be bought, but most any character around halas has the minimum skill in tailoring to make one for you.

So the answer is this.. 1)purchase the cap from a vendor 2)take up the skill of tailoring and make your own or 3) in game, ask someone to either give you one, or ask them if they will make you one.

Items needed if you take the route of the tailor are a cap pattern and a ruined bear pelt. The pattern will cost approx 4 silver (?? guessing as it has been awhile since i have bought a pattern) and there are a million polar bear cubs in the newbie area of everfrost to get your pelts.

I suggest you take up the tailoring skill and make your own. U can make money selling pieces and the satisfaction of knowing you made it!

Hope this helped.. Woneye Twinpicks ..povar

ID just like to point out, that like Druids and Rangers, Beastlords have amiable faction with bears and wolves.. and although its hard to realize it now, that good faction DOES come in handy at times.. something to think about before you kill too many bears or wolves (killing a few to get the pelt wont hurt you too much)

I've never seen a faction message for killing a bear or wolf anywhere. I haven't killed one in Surefall Glades, but that's the only place I can think of that might have a faction for those animals.
RE: friendly bears
# Jun 05 2002 at 10:21 PM Rating: Default
Make a newbie human and go to the karanas. Most likely, the 'Animal' MOBs there will not attack you. Most animals start out 'neutral' until you kill one or two of their kind. There is no faction message.

There is no faction hit when you hunt any animal outside of Surefall.

I have a 55 druid that's been hunting bears and cats for the pelts. After about 100 kills of each, my faction has not gotten worse.

If you kill the bears in Surefall, you will take a faction hit with the rangers, druids and bears within Surefall.

killing bears does not alter faction with sfg ppl. The only posible consequence is that holy windsstalker catches you in the act, and she gets slightly mad at you. She's a lvl 40 npc and killing her gives bad faction, not the bears/wolves.

I just started a Barbarian Beastlord, and twinked her with a full suit of leather (YES, leather) Then I started this quest series, and turned in bits of leather as I went along. each piece is as good or better than leather in raw AC, plus it has stat boosts. I know what I am wearing. Anyways, it is possible to get this stuff real early(Giant snake fangs are often found in shops, bows and fangs are often just left lying there, and I found my Wrath Orc Wristband in a shop for less than a plat!) Finishing the last quest is what put me to 7, now I have to chack and see if Beasties have anything else before 30 or so...

At around level 3 I got the wolf hide. It seems like a rare drop, but you got bears to kill the time. The polar bear skins are for a great merchant exp/money (at this level) quest. I bought the giant snake fang and the hunting bow, and killed a gnoll outside of bb for the fang. Working on tunic quest now.

Ok
Just wanted to help out my fellow Beastlords with some info. After you do the newbe armor quests(which any beastlord can do ...all starting cities for beastlords have the same quests except the Vah Shir). After newbe armor quests after lvl 15 and you get your lvl 2 lvl 15 pet procs(this is a must have ) go to Shadowweavers Thicket on the moon and do the Ghulem armor quests and the Hero of the Vah Shir cloak quests. This cloak btw is best you will see for leather armor types like us till really high lvl.Yes,any race beastlord can do quests just do the Chiale friendship Ring quest to raise faction. If you found this website you can find the one for Vah Shal and Shadowweavers thickets as well to find out more about friendship ring quests.
After you do the Ghulem armor quest and Vah Shir Here cloak quest...your next stop should be FoB in Kunark and Carns Tower(may not be spelled right but you will figure it out.) Hunt there from 20-25 and get Burynai armor off dead mobs.Watchout for Guards in FoB they will of course kill you unless you are Iksar. You can build faction but it will take about 10 lvl worth of killing...from 20-30 to even begin doing the faction quests that are there.Again look up beastlord sites on Eqcaster.com under beastlord stratagy forums to find other people talk about earning faction in Cabalis...to long to explain here .
After you get Burynai armor sstart looking at wildlords armor quests at 30 plus or tailoring quest armor in SharVal (some of which is very very nice but requires tailor skill of 175 plus but is well worth the time). After the wildlords armor I am not sure I havent researched past that myself yet.Hope this helps you all.And yes before you ask,,,there is a way for non Vah Shir to do citizenship quests for Shar Val so they can do Cat tailoring quests. It involves mqing the newbe note quest ,I wont explain it more I am tired of typing now,but can be found in other places websites.Good luck to you all.

Just did the cap and kilt parts a few minutes ago, and the faction hits made me curious...

+Shamen of Justice
+Merchants of Halas
-Coalition of Tradesfolk Ill.
-Circle of Unseen Hands
-Ebon Mask

Who the hell are the Ebon Mask? I checked this site for quests and bestiary involving them, and found nothing. I've become curious about the faction hits, but more about the story behind them. What do Qeynos Rogues have against Halas Shamen? The only human in town that I've seen yet is the one seeking her lost brother (Vengeful Musician quest). This may take some looking in to...

From a newbie. How do you start this quest ? I hail Hoyce then he answer with [Keven] in the sentence. I use Keven in my reply and .... nothing.

I hope you figured out what to say by now. For those who may still be wondering, you do talk to Hoyce. When he asks about Keven say, " Keven sent me". That is what I said and it worked.
Hope that gets everyone started.
Good luck and good hunting.

Go to Keven, he is in the next hut over, he will prompt you what to do next. Remember that he wants a GIANT snake fang. To make thread you need a sewing kit and some spiderling silk (2), combine and you have thread.

Just as a note, you don't need to buy a sewing kit. There's a loom next to Mac's Kilts that can be used for free (operates the same as a forge, oven, etc. Just click on the frame).

Magic Item Lore Item No Drop
5 Dam, 24 Del, skill=hand to hand.
slot: Primary Secondary

Nice little weapon If I say so myself.
The other Norathian Beastlords also have a quest for a claw with the same stats, just a different description.

Easy Newby Quest
# Dec 23 2001 at 10:29 AM Rating: Excellent
1 post
Yesterday I started a Beastlord and went from 1 to 7 in no time, mostly working on the quest items. Wish I would have had the complete list on me from the beginning, though. Did sell a few gob necklaces I didn't know I'd need later. Some tips.... You can easily get all 4 gob necklaces by going to one of the goblin igloos and clearing them out. For the Field Priest Claw, if you don't want to go down into Blackburrow to hunt, the hunting bow and giant snake fang can usually be bought by merchants (I've seen both at merchants in Qeynos - the hunting bow a little over 3 gp and the giant snake fang between 5 and 6 pp.) And a good place for a lowby to hunt gnolls (and not get caught in trains, lol) are the ents to BB on the Everfrost and Qeynos Hills sides. I just made 7 and am now out hunting orcs for the wrath orc wristband. Used to be you could find these at merchants too, but with this quest started, I haven't seen them nearly as much. Good place to look, though, is Starn, at the temple out in Everfrost. All and all, I think this is a great set of newby quests. After trying to make a cat beastlord and deal with the hundreds of others all going for the same loot in their newby zone... for now the Barb Beastlord is the way to go.
Great exp
# Dec 20 2001 at 7:13 AM Rating: Decent
These quests are great exp for Barb Beastlords all the way up (so far) thru 18...Ive done all 5 quests (and it is, indeed, a Giant Snake Fang, despite what Hoyce says), and now I just turn in backpack after backpack of Wrath Orc Wristbands to Hoyce for exp. This quest is much better than Cindl's quest for 2 wristbands--Cindl only gives half the exp for a pair of wristbands!! I just leveled 18, and thru 17 I was still getting just under half a blue per wristband; what with my pet having a 30dd magic based proc buff, Im taking down mammy calves and snow orc shamen left and right, and just sending my pet after troopers while I sit.

Anyway, excellent quest for lowbies, great fun to play this class/race combo (SharVahl is way too laggy still); Blackburrow is a goldmine for exp and gnoll fangs up the wazzoo...take them to Captain Tillyn(sp?) in Qeynos instead of Lysbith in Halas unless you want the faction more than the exp (yeah right!)

BST only
# Dec 19 2001 at 5:25 AM Rating: Default
I haven't seen anyone mention this but these items are also bst only items I didn't see that on a post. So the post should say best class Beast lord.
RE: BST only
# Dec 24 2001 at 7:24 PM Rating: Decent
Ahh yes, the armor may be for BST only, but the exp and faction is good for every class, and that you don't have to work in the BST faction before they will give you the quest, and class can get it right off the bat, so that must be why they don't use BST as the best class.

repeating quest
# Dec 16 2001 at 5:41 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, I repeated some parts of the quest for faction and experiance and had no problems until after the final quest, He said "I can teach you no more" or something like that, and now I cannot repeat any parts of the quests Can anyone confirm this, or am I on drugs again???

I have done the same thing, just doing the quest for exp. I have about 4 wristguards to turn in, but have not done so. I guess I will find out if it is a bug or not.
Pertaining to my previous post of using a normal snake fang, I was completely off. I thought I was using a snake fang, but in actuality, it was a giant one I was turning in. My fault for that post, and my apologies if anyone actually listened to it..

He's back in the huts, near the sled dogs. He is in the hut facing the Guild leader and the Merchant.

# Dec 13 2001 at 12:20 PM Rating: Default
Just to concur with what has been posted so far, yesterday evening (12/12/01) I tried it with a normal snake fang, got screwed out of a good hunting bow and gnoll fang too. ;-) So you'll need a giant one to do this quest, regardless of what our remarkably quiet guild mentors may say (Kevan doesn't even respond to hails, guess they weren't quite "fully implemented" upon release.../sigh)
Giant or maybe not
# Dec 12 2001 at 9:43 AM Rating: Decent
I turned in the gnoll fang, hunting bow, and a normal snake fang, and I still got the claw.
I never saw him say giant. I was expecting him to, since I was about to take my main to NRo and get one, but he never told me giant.
hmmm...

It is possible that someone turned in 2 giant snake fangs also(yes, you can multiquest this).

Remember, Hoyce sends you to Blackburrow to get this stuff. From what I remember the Giant Snakes in BlackBurrow do not drop normal (stackable) snake fangs.

Anyway I can't wait to get a Wrath Orc Wristband to turn in.

this is by far one of the best quests ive seen for a newbie character, and easy too. you'd be surprised what people sell to merchants hehe. i finished this quest leveling at 6 upon completion, tho i think it was meant for finishing at near lvls 8-10, considering you have to get a giant snake fang for the claws and a wrath orc wristband for the tunic, both mobs that are just above a lvl 6 to solo (but grouped , may not be such a big deal. ;)) so to all aspiring field priests, do this quest. the items are more than worth it for low lvls, and the claw is MAGIC! which means you have something to kill willowisps with early ;)

The Field Priest's Claw is something I haven't seen before: a weapon on hand to hand skill. It's 5 damage, 24 delay hand-to-hand. It looks like a claw. You need to give him the giant snake fang that's a piercer to complete the quest, a lot of people have been handing in snake fangs (the stackable kind) instead. If you're interested in doing it easy, try just giving him the fang, the previous guy might have goofed it and given him the wrong fang.

The purpose for this part of the quest set is to get you into Blackburrow, so use the fangs of the Blackburrow snakes to complete it. It seems all the Beastlord races have this sort of quest set, I hope the retrofit the rest of the classes quests to match.

I did all 5 quests in half an hour with my lvl 1 (5by the end of them) beastlord, the tunic rocks, i was using a splitpaw, and offering 1pp to loot a gnoll fang got me that without having to be big enough to kill gnolls, bought the fang and bow for 2pp, got the orc bracer for 5pp and i was all done, thank god I gave my newbie 150pp :) (and conferming it IS a giant snake fang needed for the claw)
