I see posts that say you only need indifferent. Testing seems to indicate otherwise.

At faction 50 I was unable to do this quest. I suspect maybe in low 90s (which is just shy of amiable) it might be possible based on people's comments. I updated the quest to say Amiable, as if this is one of those in between quests, it would be much closer to amiable than indifferent.

It looks like you have to be indifferent or better to do this quest. This means either Belts/Pads from early Crushbone OR grinding on the orcs till your faction is high enough to do this quest. Either way, for those of use that have bad faction, it means a tid-bit of work.

As a side note, I've discovered that not all the faction in Kelethin is tied together. Part of the Merchants are indifferent to me (in fact the merchant in the warriors guild is Warmly since he's apparently on the Emeralds faction tree) and the rest are dubious. I'm going to petition about it since it seems to be an incongruency.

If you have to faction up very much to do this quest, the rewards and XP aren't worth it unless you are just in it for the faction hits.

It is indeed possible to bank in kelethin as an Agnostic Dark Elf warrior, because i did this quest for hours back in the day on Tunare server, when Gfay was known as Gbay. Ironically, when i finally found out about this and did it, the bazaar was launched and all my work was for not. *Sigh* well.. atleast i'm ally there :) not with the merchants though.

I am playing the newish Gnome Shadow knight, has anyone checked this quest with a Necromancer or Shadow Knight? Will it work?
RE: How bout Shadow Knights?
# Jun 06 2002 at 6:08 AM Rating: Default
it probly wont work because most people hate shadow knights. i suggest u go kill some orcs or something to up faction. even then it might take a while, i have heard it is hard to get up faction with rogue guild.
killing slaves?
# Apr 03 2002 at 8:43 PM Rating: Default
I have killed many slaves in my newbie years in CB, I have never done this quest, even tho i am an Emerald Warrior, and I have /duel alot of ppl in GFay. I am still ally with guards, merchants, and I dunno wut the banker is, but hes my buddy
Banker Faction
# Mar 15 2002 at 10:17 AM Rating: Default
I see alot of questions about the banker, and what faction he is, in here so I will anwser this for you all. The Banker of Kelethin is BOTH Anti-Mage AND Merchants of Kelethin, and let me explaine why. First off I have Dark Elf Enchanter who, even in High Elf Illusion, is Doub to both the merchants and the bank in Kelethin, and NEITHER will talk with me. When I cast my Allience spell, which rasies faction with one group, on the MERCAHNTS the banker will ALSO let me talk to him at the same time. The reason your faction can be different between the two, KoS to banker and Doub to the Merchants, is because the banker takes BOTH factions into account to give you your "con".

That happens because merchants have been changed to never be KoS. No matter how low your faction is they don't go below dubious. It was changed quite a while back because people uninetntionally "displaced" merchants while running through a KoS city (which made the merchants refuse to sell and GMs having to repop them)

Kelethin Banker

I am 37 Iskar Shaman that made the mistake of visiting Crushbone a bit ago with a pet. A slave aggroed on me and Pet waxed it. I didnt thing much about it at the time, but it appears to have ruined my faction with both Kelethin merchants and banker. Currently, the guards con amiable while the merchants are dubious and the banker still wants to rip out my gizzard. My question is simple. Will this quest increase faction with banker? If not, what will?

#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 22 2002 at 10:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok i read alot about you all cryin that you killed a slave or 2 in crushbone and are dub to merchants. thats a bunch of BS I killed tons of slaves all the time and im still admiably and ally to every merchant/gaurd/npc in felwith and kelethin so why dun you all stop liein and fess up ya killed a slave and it didnt mess up ur faction or if by some miracle im jus lucky Bah I hate kelethin any way
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 15 2002 at 10:08 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You stupid dumba$$, when your an iksar or DE or other Evil race and your faction is JUST BARELY in the point where guards and banker won't kill you on sight killing one or two slaves WILL kill your faction! I know because I have a Iksar SK who was doing the Key Quest, pet aggroed on a Slave and lost faction, I WAS at Doub with the guards after some work, after the slave died went out side and coned them, back down to Threatingly.

My iksar necro just made dubious is it possible for him to do this quest or do i have to raise it higher with the emerald warriors. Whats the minimal faction rating to be able to do this quest
RE: Minimal Faction
# Jan 20 2002 at 11:03 PM Rating: Decent
Minimal faction to do the quest is amiably! Even at indifferently he will tell you that you have not yet proven your loyality (or something like that).
Seems you have to kill alot more orcs...

Faction
# Nov 14 2001 at 6:46 AM Rating: Default
My Gnome Mage went from Apprehensive faction to Indifferent faction with both Kelethin and Felwithe Merchants.

So if this quest was not giving the merchant faction before, it is now.
KoS and counting

I have a wood elf druid that got a couple of bad faction hits from slaves in Crush and went from being loved to despised in about two hits. As far as I remember he killed one slave that had aggroed on him in a swarm of orcs at the entrance.

He is now KoS to Kelthin and Felwithe bankers, and dubious to most merchants. Note that he is amiable to all the guards, and even ally with several other faction groups.

I have now done this quest in excess of 79 times without any indication faction has budged. I will do it 21 more times before giving up.

Can merchants ever drop below dubious? I am assuming so, which is why I am hoping that his faction with elves is not stuck too low.

Advice to everyone - stay out of Crushbone. The incredibly bad faction hits you can take from aggroed slaves is not worth the risk - especially if you are higher level.

I have confirmed (by killing the banker) that the Kelethin Banker is either on Kelethin Merchant Faction or Anti-Mage faction. Forget the rumors about him being on Scouts of Tunare Faction - I don't know where those rumors begin.

At any rate, the Kilij Plans quest takes much too long for any real faction work, and Verant has nerfed the shark meat quest, so this is the only quest that people know of to improve faction with the Kelethin Merchants. Anti-Mage has more options.

He is for sure not on Kelethin Merchant faction, as he scowls at me and the merchants are dubiously. It could be Anti Mage, i did not check this and I am not sure where i could recheck it. If he would be on Tunares Scouts it would be quite difficult for me to raise the faction...
I'll repost if i have further news.

That is incorrect. The reason the merchants are dubiously instead of KoS is because vendor NPCs never con below dubiously. The banker is not a vendor so he is free to be KoS to evil characters. I think the banker probably IS on kelethin merchant faction.
that sucks

So what now? Is it impossible for Dark Elves to get to apprehensive with the banker? I have never heard of a DE banking without some form of help such as wolf form, sneak, etc

It IS possible to bank in Kelethin as a DE. Im a DE SK and i bank in both Kelethin AND Felwithe. Took a while. Still no merchant faction.

i killed 1 HIE in felwithe, and 1 HIE in gfay.. while it left me still ally with all the guards of both cities, i went from indifferent to dubious with the merchants ... FROM KILLING 2 PEEPS! and im a HIE cleric :-/

anyways, i did this quest approx. 60 times, and now i am apprehensive and able to buy/sell from the merchants in felwithe again.. be warned.. dont /duel elves in gfay or felwithe.. i think even lesser faydark has a faction hit, or at least gm told me..

anyways, this quest DOES raise your faction with the merchants.. just slowly.. i was too lazy to go collecting that stuff myself, so i was paying newbies to collect the components.. spent around 3k so far to raise it to apprehensive from dubious

ahh rallos zek, why doth thou punisheth me for killing people?
No Faction
# Sep 11 2001 at 11:36 AM Rating: Default
This is broken quest. You can do this quest FOREVER and you will not budge your faction with the Merchants. Don't know if it's bugged, or if Verant nerfed it.

Have fun - I did this thing about 500 times with a druid who had become KoS because he killed an aggro slave in Crushbone. I was moaning about how long it was taking when a friend with ShowEQ did the quest with his computer. Well friends, there is NO faction adjustment to merchants from this quest, regardless of what the server message says. Apparently it is possible to still get the faction message without getting any faction.

I'd love to report this bug to Verant, but I wouldn't be able to without getting my friend banned. Nice customer service policy they have there...
RE: No Faction
# Jul 05 2005 at 6:13 PM Rating: Decent
Are you seriously upset about a policy that bans programs like ShowEQ?
I don't get it
# Jun 15 2001 at 2:36 PM Rating: Decent

Why is this such a great quest? Don't you get roughly the same faction increases just from killing the orcs? By the time you're level 10, you've probably turned in your share of CB belts (Kaladim faction, I know), which means you've slaughtered a good number of orcs.

It seems that if you're going to grow up in Gfay and Crushbone, that your Kelethin faction is going to be high anyways.

its good cuz it raises faction with kelethin merchants. killing orcs doesnt give u faction with the merchants. believe me im a dark elf and have rasised my faction from ready to attack to kindly and the merchants were still dubious to me. its low level so anyone can do it really easily. and u dont have to go far from kelethin to do it

i agree i am workign on a iksar necro and i have been workignon the faciton and i have so far not done much with merchants but i know form working on kaladims factions that merchants are important to raise it is hard when it is a 10pp or a 20 min boat ride then a run to to dhoping and banking so i am workign to get liked in as many cities i can possably and these low lvl quests are great since the orc raise your guard and emerald faction till you can do this quest to be able to sell

You can open the door and just click on Regren through the door crack. Works like a charm.

Have watched the ip packets that comes when I do this quest. I get 1 faction point for the Emerald warriors, and 0 from Felwithe and Kelethin merchants, even though it says I get faction improvements.
Bulk
# May 18 2001 at 5:26 PM Rating: Default
I have found the best thing to do to notice a faction increase, is to get all your componets in bulk before doin quest. That way u can con merchants as u go and see if it raises any. LOL i just did this quest and took 25 of each item at once....Good thing im a warrior with alot of str. and by the way u might want to throw your stuff in bank and get alot of backpacks hehe...
