Rarnan Lapice is located at -725, -85 outside the Temple of Divine Light in Erudin. Requires amiable faction to Peacekeepers to complete the final turn-in.

You say, 'Hail, Rarnan Lapice'

Rarnan Lapice says 'It is good to meet you, ______. To enter the Temple of Divine Light is to invite Quellious into your body and soul. Tranquility is our way and, as such, we do all we can to uphold it. Are you a [cleric of Quellious], or am I mistaken?'

You say, 'I am a cleric of Quellious.'

Rarnan Lapice says 'I have a small task for you then. Go to the city library and ask the librarian for the book 'The Testament of Vanear'. I shall require it for further studies. Do not return empty-handed or you shall know my rage.'

Illithi Nollith is located at -1075, -220 in the Erudin City Library in Erudin.

You say, 'Hail, Illithi Nollith'

Illithi Nollith says 'Shhhh... Greetings, ______. Welcome to the Library of Erudin. Please respect the other patrons and speak softly.'

You say, 'I need the Testament of Vanear.'

Illithi Nollith says 'Oh my!! You have not heard?! The Testament of Vanear was stolen from the library! It was checked out by a man named Moodoro. He is an Erudite, but I believe he was executed for some crime. Now the book is lost forever. You should speak with Tol Nicelot. He used to know Moodoro. Tol is most likely upstairs.'

Tol Nicelot is located at -1095, -240 on the top floor of the library in Erudin.

You say, 'Hail, Tol Nicelot'

Tol Nicelot says 'I have no time to waste with strangers!'

You say, 'Did you know Moodoro?'

Tol Nicelot says 'Yes, I knew Moodoro Finharn. He used to be a good friend until he started visiting Qeynos and indulging in human vices. He was executed for crimes against the state. Not even his sister [Nolusia] could get the charge dropped. There have been some who say he escaped execution and lives in Qeynos. That is insane babbling.'

Moodoro Finharn is located at +165, +325 outside Crows Pub & Casino in North Qeynos.

You say, 'Hail, Moodoro Finharn'

Moodoro Finharn says 'Greetings, fellow traveler! I gotta tell ya. I love this town. Especially Crow's. Although the crowd seems a bit shadier than other places of the sort.'

You say, 'What Testament of Vanear?'

Moodoro Finharn says 'So you have heard that good old Moodoro has knowledge of the Testament of Vanear. I care little for that book. Of course I have it!! If you want it, I will sell it to you for two gold pieces.'

Give him 2 gold.

Moodoro Finharn says 'HA!! I hope you enjoy the book. It is missing pages 30 and 34. It is nothing more than garbage without them. A rogue ripped them from their bindings and sold them to [Ran].'

You receive a container called Testament of Vanear.

You say, 'Who is Ran?'

Moodoro Finharn says 'Ran Flamespinner is a librarian in Highpass Hold.'

Ran Flamespinner is located at -45, -345 in Highpass Keep.

You say, 'Hail, Ran Flamespinner'

Ran Flamespinner says 'I am very sorry to have to inform you that the library is off limits to strangers.'

You say, 'What Testament of Vanear?'

Ran Flamespinner says 'So, you seek the page 30 I recently purchased from an Erudite named Moodoro? He also had page 34, but refused to sell it to me. If you seek page 34, you will first have to find Moodoro. I had page 30 for but a few days when a man swiped it from the library's shelves. I believe he wore the garb of a guard of Qeynos. He darted away so fast I did not have time to cast a single spell! I believe he is still in Highpass, I can feel it!!'

Dyllin Starsine is located at +10, +55 in Highpass Hold.

You say, 'Hail, Dyllin Starsine'

Dyllin Starsine says 'Hey!! I don't have any spare change, okay?!'

You say, 'What Testament of Vanear?'

Dyllin Starsine says 'So you heard Guard Dyllin has page 30 of the Testament of Vanear, eh?! Well, get lost!! Over my dead body will you get page 30!'

Dyllin Starsine's corpse says 'Fool! I was sent by the Commander of the Qeynos Guard. You will surely be punished... unggh!'
You have slain Dyllin Starsine!
You have looted a Page 30 of a Book..

Return to Moodoro Finharn.

You say, 'I want page 34.'

Moodoro Finharn says 'So, you know I have page 34. Pretty smart of me to tear the most important page out before someone else tried, eh? If you really want it, then sit down and deal in. Ante is 4 gold. I will give you one card. If it is a jester, then I will give you the page. Let's do it.'

Give him 4 gold and receive a card. You can receive one of several, but eventually you will get the Jester.

Moodoro Finharn says 'Well, what do you have?!!'

Give Moodoro the Jester.

Moodoro Finharn says 'Lucky you. We were hoping to really clean you out. Here you go. Take the page. Even together, the book is nothing more than fiction.'

Combine Page 30 of a Book and Page 34 of a Book in the Testament of Vanear container to craft a different Testament of Vanear. Return to Rarnan and give this to him.

Rarnan Lapice says 'I sent you after that book ages ago! What took you so long? I have already completed my studies. Luckily I found the original manuscript under my bedroll. I forgot I had kept it there. Take this as a token of my apology. Maybe it will aid you in your next book hunt. I know how cunning those books can be.'

A couple more details
# Feb 23 2002 at 7:28 PM Rating: Decent
A couple of details I haven't seen mentioned here so far:

First, Dyllin Starsine conned even to me at 16, and I found him to be a fairly accurate con. If you can avoid pulling in the smugglers he's not too bad for 16 and up, maybe a bit lower if you're good at what you do.

Second, if you do get in trouble, there's an easy escape route by running up the ramp next to Dyllin's spawn point and jumping off the cliff. The fall may take a bubble or so of health, so make sure you can spare it, but if you do this, the smugglers will not follow you off the cliff (they have to go around the long way) so it can buy you enough time to get away and zone. Be careful of the guards at High Keep entrance if you do this, however, because they will help the smugglers.

Regarding the rumor that giving Moodoro 1pp will give you the Jester right off, this is not true, you must just have been lucky. I tried this later (when I had more cash to spare) just to see whether it works and it doesn't appear to change the odds at all over just giving him 4gp, so basically it's just a good way to waste more money.

As for my story: I grew up in Qeynos, and as soon as I got SoW and Bind at 14, I threw about 10pp into getting the book and page from Moodoro and I was off to Highpass Hold to get the last page. When I got there, I found Dyllin to be yellow, and I wasn't sure how yellow, so I hung around killing gnolls for a couple of levels until I found him to be white at 16, and gave him a try. As I tend to prefer the buff-and-melee route, I threw on all my buffs (SoW, Skin, Str, thistlecoat, firefist, shield of thistles), waited for the red smuggler to go down toward the water, threw Stinging Swarm on Dyllin, and started whacking away.

After mostly melee and a few well-placed fooms, I was down to about a third of my health when he started running. I had him snared, but he managed to get the attention of the smugglers in the cave before I could kill him off completely. One last foom to kill him, and then I jumped "out the window", ran off and zoned to lose the smugglers, came back and looted, and presto.

I'm quite happy with this quest. If you're careful you can do it reliably (untwinked) at 15 or 16, and unlike most of the quests on so-called EverQuest, it actually gets you something _useful_ as a result. A definite must-do for all wis-based casters.
Jester Card
# Feb 22 2002 at 11:11 PM Rating: Default
I think I found an easier way to get the jester card. I had heard a rumor about giving Moodoro 1pp and you get the jester the first try. When I got to him I tried 4gp first, and got a queen. Then I decided to try the 1pp trick. It worked! I received my jester and only spent 1pp ands 4gp ) I think those who haven't done the quest should try this, I know of it working for many people.

Well after reading this I decided to give the 1pp thing a try. Gave 1pp and got the begger, gave 1pp, got the begger again. So 2pp and 24gp later I finally got the jester. Still not a bad investment when you consider that you get a +10 wis item for under 5pp, but I wouldn't consider the 1pp trick a sure thing.

Play his card game by giving him 4gp until you get the jester card. Return that card to him to get Page 34. To recieve the book to combine pages in, give him 2gp.

Alright. here's how i did this quest as a druid. I was having quite a hard time finding this camp empty on Mith Marr so i decided since i'm a druid and can travel around pretty easilly i'd simply bind myself right in the bandit camp and then use my gate spell to go check on the camp every once in a while. This proved to work out well as, even though it took a good weeks worth of patients, eventually i popped in and there Dylin was with no one camping him.

You don't have to do the Erudin part of the quest either, i just went to Quenos (crows tavern) and gave the 2gp for the book and probably took about another 50gp for me til i got the joker. still a great deal imo and well worth it for a 10wis item!

Well, due to a recognized bug dealing with falling damage when TPing into WC, I died. It just so happened that I'd bound myself at Dyllin Starshine's spawn spot. He is the 6.5 hour spawn for the Testament of Vannear (sp?) that gives a +10 WIS book.

Well, a kindly Cleric saw me die, and rezzed me. And as I was clicking on the YES button, who should I see walk around the corner into view. OMG! NO!! But too late, I'm in WC with no mana, nothing. Loot my body, offer 42 plats to Cleric (he refused), snagged the only Enchanter in the zone and handed him 5 plats for Clarity, medded and memmed spells, and as soon as I had enough mana for Gate, gated!

OMG! He's STILL there and only I know it. Check radar, no rangers or druids. (Thank you!) Medded up to full, cast buffs on me, medded a little more. Then waited for the red smuggler to exit stage right (giving almost two minutes of peace from him).

Target Dyllin.
Root (worked). No running for you badboy.
Snare (worked). No running when Root breaks.
Creeping Crud (worked-but not needed in hindsite).
Combust (worked-full damage).
Combust (worked-full damage) Broke Root but he was too hurt to move.
Combust (worked-overkill and dead).

Loot the body and find page. WOOT!
Put page in book and combine. You have created something new. WOOT!

I am now the proud posessor of a +10 WIS book (nodrop), total camp time was maybe 2 hours spread bewteen 4 sessions.

THANK YOU VERANT FOR KILLING ME! (Betcha never expected to hear THOSE words...)

Obtaining the Testament

Ok, here's my experience with this quest. I easily completed this quest as a 20th level Druid. I killed Dyllan first but I suggest getting the book and page from Moodoro first since you take a faction hit from killing Dyllan which could make you KoS to Corrupt Qeynos Guards.
I watched Dyllan and the red smuggler for a long time before killing him. I was told to wait until Dyllan went down to the water because he would be alone and vulnerable; I don't know if this was changed or I was just unlucky, but I watched Dyllan go down to the water 3x and he was never alone there. So I waited until he returned to his spawn point (under the canopy), then waited for the red smuggler to head towards the water. At this point Dyllan was all alone and a very easy kill. Root, DoT, Careless Lightning twice and he was toast. He broke the root and I was afraid he was going to go after his buddies, but he attacked me instead.
A quick trip to Qeynos and 6gp later (2gp for the book and 4gp for the Jester card, first try!)and I had my Testament.
Now I don't know if this quest is not as popular as it once was, but I tried at a normal hour (7pm EST) and not only was Dyllan there when I got there, but I watched him for a while and no one came by the whole time. I thought this quest was going to be much harder.

After dinging 20th, I decided to quest for the Testament. I went to Highhold, and camped Dyllin. I gave up after a few hours and decided to hunt orcs and watch Track. Well, another druid took the camp, and killed Dyllin around 4:20pm EST. So, I logged, and came back on around 10:50pm (6.5 hr spawn) to find a huge camp of four or so guildies getting the page for their cleric. So, doing the math, I knew that Dyllin would pop again around 5:20am. I'm not a morning person, so I didn't think anything of it. At 5:00am that morning, my puppy woke me up ANYWAY, needing to visit the great outdoors. While he was out, I logged in for kicks, and who should be there all shiny and new but Dyllin! A few Careless Lightnings later (after watching the red smuggler go on his rounds), and the page was mine. Next, I went to North Qeynos, and bought the book cover and second page (took 3 tries) from Moodoro. Moral of the story: Why camp? Not many folks are on early in the morning, so find out when someone kills him, and assume that folks will hit him at his next few pops. Then, find out when he will spawn early in the morning, and set your alarm (or puppy). Results may vary.
No Problem

I did this quest as a level 22 Shaman and I was totally KOS to corrupt Qeynos guards before I even started. It took about a week waiting for Dyllinn to spawn and not be killed before I got to him. I just kept camping in the area where the smugglers are until he was waiting for me when I logged in one Sunday morning. Using advice posted here, I waitied for the red smuggler to walk downstairs which gives plenty of time for the killing of Dyllan. Took page 30 and went to Qeynos. Moodoro was dubious to me and there was a threatenly halfing standing next to him light blue to me. The halfling aggroed me and Moodoro assisted him but I ran towards the Qeynos Hills zone, making sure Moodoro followed me (nuking me the whole way). After zoning to QH and returning, Moodoro was standing on the path in front of the Qeynos gates. I gave him 2gp and he gave me the book with two empty slots and a combine button. I kept giving him 4gp until I got the jester, then gave him the jester back and he gave me page 34. Combine and done, +10 WIS!
Testament of Vanear
# Feb 02 2002 at 8:25 AM Rating: Default
Lvl 15 cleric on Seventh Hammer.

Camped Dylin today with two friends a 17 warrior and a 16 paladin. it was a cakewalk. this is what happened.

Once dylin poped, i buffed warrior and paladin. then they stood there while I attacked the red smuggler, ( i then cast divine aura making myself invulnerable for 18 seconds) then I ran by all the smugglers and ran to the keep. (Caution make sure you give the peeps in the zone a warning and let them know what your planning so they don't fall on the wrong sword)

Once area was clear of smugglers my buddies started wacking on Dylin and I zoned into the keep, then gated back to my bind point right next to dylin and got there as they finished him off and looted the page combined it in the "book container" with page 34, and Boom I have a "Testament of Vanear". Total time 1 hour, camp and all.

If you do it this way, make sure your friends understand that even if you die they don't touch the smugglers and then they should be alright. You risk death in this strategy but then again that item makes it all worth while. :)

Merry journeys to you all friends!

Might turn it in tonight and see if it's worthwhile. I just aquired the page from the guy in Highpass a couple hours ago. As note to anyone interested, the so-called "red smuggler" is not a nice fellow, even if you're 51st and he cons blue :). He hit me for over 100 repeatedly, so I just killed Dyllin, looted the page, and ran to zone.

Hope my faction in Erudin is good enough to turn it in for a reward.

Harmony is an area affect spell. Any mob, in your line of sight, around the one you cast it on, will be affected. If you are close enough and have the spell particle effects turned on you should be able to see which ones are affected. Another thing about harmony is it only lowers the argo radius of a mob, it doesn't just keep things from attacking. Which means if you pull a mob near or through one that has been harmonied both will come running.

Not So Easy
# Jan 04 2002 at 12:37 PM Rating: Decent
This was not as easy for me as it apparently was for some. I had to try three times and almost died the first two. I am a level 20 druid.

Just as I got to HHP last night, someone killed Dyllin. I did not want to stay up all night waiting for him to respawn, so I watched the red smuggler a bit to get down his pattern. He first walks up the ramp to the left and stays there for a few seconds. Then he comes back down close to where Dyllin spawns. Then he goes down the tunnel on the right. He ends up going down by the water for about a minute and then coming back. Just as he turns the corner of the tunnel, you have about 1.5 to 2 minutes to kill Dillyn before the red smuggler returns.

After figuring out his pattern I camped my guy for the night. When I got on the next morning, Dyllin was standing there waiting to die. I bound myself right there next to him. Then I cast levitate on myself. I got one of my teleport spells out. Then I was ready. As soon as the red smuggler turned the corner, I harmonied the one smuggler that was close by and tried to root Dyllin. He immediately resisted root and ran over and got his friends. They started beating on me. I ran away fast and teleported out of there (barely got teleport off).

I then healed and went back and tried again. This time I got in his way so he couldn't get his friends. He was hitting me and interrupting my spells so I couldn't kill him fast enough. This time the red smuggler got back before I could finish him. I had to run and teleport with just two bubbles of health left.

Third time, root finally held and I was able to nuke him to death using careless lightning (5 times because one didn't do full damage). So I finally got the page and a note to finish the quest.

So just remember to scope everything out and plan an escape route before trying to kill Dyllin or your chances of dying are very good. He likes to resist root a lot.
