You say, 'Hail, Rallic Aristos'

Rallic Aristos says 'Well met Daias! I am Rallic Aristos, Governor of trade and economy here in Katta Castellum. I know it sounds like a lot of parchment pushing and coin counting but maintaining good trade relations with the various Houses of Shadow Haven and the haggling Vah Shir of Shar Vahl is not as easy at it may sound. Then there is the issue of the [acrylia mines] in the Tenebrous Mountains.'

You say, 'What acrylia mines?'

Rallic Aristos says 'The Tenebrous Mountains are rich with veins of the valuable acrylia ore. Unfortunately the mines were dug and controlled by a tribe of savage grimlings from the forests to the south. Negotiations have been attempted with the grimlings but to no avail. Several of the other governors and I have been developing a [plan] to take the mines or establish mines of our own. In either case the mines will have to be defended from attacks by the grimlings unless when placed in that predicament they finally resort to trade negotiations.'

You say, 'What plan?'

Rallic Aristos says 'The full plans are not at my disposal but one of my concerns that may be instrumental in our success is the acquisition of grimling documents carried by a grimling courier who is seen frequently running from the forest to the mines. If one of the Validus Custodus attempts to obtain the runners pouch the grimlings will surely retaliate, if adventurers like yourselves obtained it however and quietly delivered it to me we may be able to move forward with our plans.'

The grimling runner is found on the southern side of the zone. He drops a pack (LORE) which you turn into Rallic Aristos in Katta.

Rallic Aristos says 'Excellent, the contents of the pouch shall be examined immediately. Take this pattern for a crafting a pack that will be sure to lighten the burden of its contents. I'm afraid I do not have the rest of the [required materials] at hand.'

Your faction standing with Concilium Universus got better.
Your faction standing with Seru got worse.
Your faction standing with Heart of Seru got worse.
You gain party experience!!

You receive a Rallic Pack Pattern.

You say, 'What required materials?'

Rallic Aristos says 'In addition to the pattern you will need to acquire a Perfect Owlbear Pelt, Shade Silk Thread, and a Shade Silk Cord. You may use any loom or large tailoring kit to craft the pack.'

Combine the Rallic Pattern (LORE), a shade silk thread (2 shadeling silks combined), a shade silk cord (3 shade silk threads combined), and a Perfect owlbear pelt (drops off higher level Owlbears) in a sewing kit to receive your Rallic Pack.

the silks
# Dec 16 2002 at 12:16 PM Rating: Decent
it ALOTeasier to get the silks u need wit ha tracker. Monsters in shadeweavers thicket are far and far in between meaning they are spread out and hard to find. Semms like there are a lot more dark aliens (name slips my mind but the dark ones drop silk) down in the holes thoguh there still isnt a lot compared to the light aliens (im tired and my memory isnt working). Factions are aliens are screwed up as well. Basically it doesn't matter what u kill as though it says you get a faction hit it doesn't seem to register it. Easiest place to get owlbear pelt is owlbear cubs in Pc (boring camp). Will give details on runner when i kill him, probly tonight =)

The silks on the "dark Aliens" Shak Dartha are Shade silks not shadeling silks. You can get Shadeling Silks on Worms and Lesser Shades in Shadeweaver.

They also drop Shadeling. I have leveled several chars in this zone hunting Shaks and they have an even chance of dropping either Shade or Shadeling.

Just wanted to let folks know that the Grimy Owlbear Cubs in Paludal will drop a perfect owlbear pelt as well. Did an entire level (19 I think?) on them, and got one perfect pelt.

The picture shows it is Lore, so no, you can only possess one per character =\

The pack IS lore.

however, you can have a pack, and a pattern. I sell these all the time, always try to have the next pattern ready, in case I get 2 replies to my auction.

easy way to do this quest is to have a monk fd behind the rallic guy and have a friend non kos hail the monk at the far end of the room over and over.. then hit sneak, get up.. hand in.. then fd and invis and go out =P

i was able to solo the runner as a level 32 bard all you have to do is twist selos and fufil' curtailing chant adn run around circles INSIDE the tunnel if you try and do it outside you will get adds. also dont know if this was mentioned or not he spawns a little bit inside the tunnel and walks out of it.

Can anyone confirm whether or not sneaking works with this quest? I know it works in the shissar organ quest but I've had this runner pack for ages and I wanna get that bag.

He's not really all that hard at high lvls (duh) I was sitting at the zone to grimling when he just attacked me. I had been in group so I had all buff spells on me except for a nuke. I'm a shaman so anyone should know that doens't mean much LOL. Well, I stood there and let him beat on me for a few while I nuked him and down he went. Ba-da-bing. Took about 3 or 4 nukes... was on the phone at the time so I don't remember for sure. Round 1500 hp I'd say. If you can take a tundra yeti in dreadlands you should have no problem with this guy.

I have done this quest 8 times now but finally solod the runner for the last two @ lvl 40.

He cant be snared or rooted (neither can the Darkwing bats there!) so I thought it'd be impossible to do alone.. and trying to kite without snare developed into mucho adds..

Anyway.. I just stood toe to toe and nuked him while praying that I could channel past his hits.
Fury of Air is a fast cast plus I have focus spell haste II from my tunic and he went down before I lost 2 bubs of health. /grins

My agility being 114 might have helped avoid the hits a bit as well ...( not that its THAT high but every bit helps)

Another tip fr you Druids:
Lessor Succor will save you alot of time. Right after you Kill the runner use succor and you'll wind up at the katta zone:)

Was in tenebrous killing the wolves when this guy spawned. Killed him easily as a 45 shaman. I looted the runner pouch thing but I had been killing guards awhile now I'm dubious to them. How do I get faction back up? hehe this sucks.

Something no one has mentioned is this little guy is a rogue...Don't turn your back to him.

Very easy kill with about 1100 hp (two ~650 nukes were more than enough).

I was standing around waiting for a rez and this little fool backstabs me for 222. Seemed about 48 dmg was his non-backstab area though.

This was on a wizard, lvl 54 with no buffs up.

Skill level
# Jul 24 2002 at 5:01 PM Rating: Excellent
I was just making a little trip through Tenebrous the other day when this little poser attacked me. Immune to changes in run speed...bah, no snare. (I was on my 43 ranger). Anyway, i proceeded to smoke the little fellow and bam, he drops the plans. After about 20 mins of gathering the items (perfect owlbear pelt off of an owlbear razorbeak in hollowshade, shadeling silks to make the thread and cord off of lesser shades and xakra silkworms in Shadeweaver's Thicket) I combined all the stuff to get the old rallic pack.

Note: I combined the shade silk thread and the shade silk cord with ZERO tailoring skill. Didn't fail even once. And then I combined all the goods to get the rallic pack at skill level of 1 (raised it a point when making the threads..hehe) and everything turned out. So yeah, obviously no tailoring skill is required for this nice little pack.
RE: Skill level
# Nov 10 2002 at 5:45 AM Rating: Decent
hi read your post on no skill needed to combine the silks to make threads etc. thats great i not ever tailor before do what do you combine things in ? sewing kit bought a 10 slot kit says i cant combine them in it :(
so i m wondering any talors know ?
RE: Skill level
# Nov 11 2002 at 10:39 PM Rating: Excellent
Hey just finished this weekend past finishing two of these nice packs 10 slot 85% weight reduction. Some answers to questions i had and you all might have trying to do the same quest.

componets you need to combine to get pack are the
1. pattern

2. one shade silk thread

3. one shade silk cord

4. One perfect owl bear pelt.

Lets cover the silks first. You get them in hollow shade more off worms and other mobs there. You combine, (in a sewing kit) two silks (can not be stacked in sewing kit) to make a Thread. Now you need to make several of the threads. Reason for this is that the cord you need is made by combining 3 threads together, in same sewing kit.

So now you have made your threads and from them you have created one cord and you now have a cord, and a thread, and a pattern you now need the finnal componet. A nice fluffy perfect owl bear pelt.

For lots of peeps i read on this thread this was easy but some thing must have changed cause was hardest part for me.

Managed to get one form hollowshade moore when someone triggered the owlbears to pop and they stayded all day. I am unsure as to how to do this but i stayed all day and got only one perfect pelt. I bought the other from a toon that had got one and had no intrest in pack, what luck . Cause i already had to patterns in my bag. I was very happy boy.

So now you take one thread, one cord, your perfect pelt and the pattern and combine them in a sewing kit.

On this finnal point, i was terrified that when i got ot this step it would fail and leave me worn out and pppssd off but no to my surprise,
both packs made and no fail.

I should also mention that i had no tailoring skill at all and that to work it up i make my threads and cords and managed to get it up to like 13-14 so it was good. Also have extra threads ready cause the only failing i had were making the cords i failed like 3 times but had lots of silks so was no worry.

Oh yeah when your combining something make sure it is not stacked or else you get message that these items can not be combined in this sewing kit or some such thing.

Other than that i cant think of any problems i had, sewing kits cost bout 2 plat or less and also i have found make great containters more slots than a bag same weight and have usfullness for sewing.

Remeber no stacking when combining.

make all your threads and cords and that will give you plenty tailoring skill to do pack, may also be no fail which i am unsure of but it workded and is great on my cleric and my warrior likes his too. Going for a 3rd soon my ranger is in need of a lighter load. :)

hope this was helpfull

Golire the happy healer

Just a note: The worms are found in Shadeweaver's Thicket, not Hollowshade Moor. There are also Xakra Larva (worms) in the Shar Vahl gravel pit (which drop a variety of quest items besides silk) and Lesser Shades in ST. BTW, anyone have any recipes for the meat or root off these things?
RE: Skill level
# Nov 25 2002 at 12:56 PM Rating: Decent
You can turn the worm meat into to the cook in the palace in Shar Vahl for some coin and faction. Now isn't *that* appetizing? Yum.

And BTW, trival for this bag is in the high teens somewhere, can't remember exactly. Very easy combine.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 21 2002 at 7:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) So there I was, My 38 Druid (Aakabak)- LD and resetting that computer and my 31 Beastlord (Vaesa), waiting for aaka to relog. One of my friends (and guildies) says "I'm gonna be afk to go buy some Coke across the street". Next, he gets jumped by this guy. Being a good friend that I am, take this guy on with Vaesa (red to me by the way.) He hits hard (for about 60hp, double attack) so I back off and concentrate on healing my warder while he takes the attack. He struggles with my warder for quite awhile. After a long bloody fight my pet goes down - now Aaka is on account and waiting to zone in. (Will he make it??)
how much?

the hardest part is combining the threads to make a cord trivial at 15-ish I think.

The Rallic pack itself is No fail

Perfect owlbear pelt in Paludal

I got a perfect owlbear pelt off Minnowgulper in Paludal Caverns. He's a named owlbear that spawn in the very north-west of the zone.

jUST SOLO-ED HIM WITH 39 DRUID
# Jul 14 2002 at 12:35 AM Rating: Decent
Well, I popped in and bound myself at the entrance to the cave, figuring it might be a long camp, requiring me to return over and over again (like Dylin Starshine in HPH). About five minutes into my first visit, he popped.

The runner appeared about 10-15 feet out from the cave entrance. If you were inside the cave looking out, he popped jus to the left. Imagine drawing a straight line out of the cave from the let wall. He popped in a position about 10-15 feet along this imaginary line.

I was concerned about the sonic dire wolves aggroing during the fight so pulled the runner back into the cave. Bats and Sonic wolves see through camo so be very wary of them.

Once he spawned he headed East and walked about 20 feet past the mouth of the cave. He then stopped, turned around and walked back toward his spawn spot. He stopped again turned and began walking North. This gave me a couple chances to attack him.

I found (the hard way), he is immune to root and snare. With the zone so close I figured I would give it a try, anyway. He conned dark blue to my 39 druid. I had diamond skin on and was weilding a ceni warhammer. I began meleeing him while nuking him. Suprisingly he didn't interrupt or resist a single nuke. I used Fury of Air and Firestrike. Fury was nice because it stunned him for a few seconds but it is slow to recycle. He definitely had the upper hand when the fight began but the nukes really hit him hard and he turned at about 15% health.

He didnt leave too quickly, considering he wasn't snared.

All in all, this runner was very easy to solo.

Been trying to raise faction in katta for a couple weeks now,im dubious to almost all the quest npc's, at first i thought just killing vamps would do it then realized there were more than the validous custodus and nathyn factions in katta. Ive now come to realize there are at least 5 seperate katta factions: validous custodus, nathyn illuminous, magis something, councillium universus, and theres an npc outside katta by the guards who's name i forget. It seems most quest npc's like rallic are on the councillium universus faction. Does anyone have any info on to raise this faction??

Owlbears also roam Grimling Forest in much lower numbers, but they are there. You can get pelts off of them. I had a friend who got 5 pelts there off of roaming owlbears (he didn't say how long he was in the zone). The owlbears will usually be along the river (down steep hill) on the right side... I see 'am alot while running to Tenebrous...

The War
# Jun 12 2002 at 2:25 AM Rating: Decent
ok heres the deal with the "War in Hollowshade" It requires that an *** monkey zone in and wipe out an entire cave of either Bears, Sonics or Grimlings. When this is done, 1 of the other 2 mobs takes over. The war dont finish itself mind you, Players have to kill all mobs in 2 camps and make sure that 1 of the 3 mobs takes over each camp. ie Grimlings at all 3 camps. This is not easy and usually requires the help from lvl 45+ peeps, so in otherwards, if you are around lvl 35 and alone, forget doing this war, cause few higher lvls want to be "Bothered" with it.
RE: The War
# Jun 18 2002 at 11:17 PM Rating: Decent
The war is not won by clearing out the cave's, you must wait for a zone message to the effect of something like the grimlings to the east can no longer stand the screetching of the owl bears to the west(not exact word) when you see the zone message defenders, guardians etc will pop in front of the caves. when they pop kill them off and a new one will take its place. when one race has taken over all 3 areas the main will pop near the outpost. kill him and all caves are reset

There are 2 good faction hits for kiling vamps, Validus Custodus and Nathyn illuminious. Will one of these raise the faction for Rallic or do you need to raise faciton with Katta Citizens?
