Groflah Steadirt spawns at 7 PM game time at location -1097.37, -1105.24 at the Seafearer's Roost in East Freeport.

    You say, 'Hail, Groflah Steadirt'

Groflah Steadirt says 'Greetings, ______! Join in the [celebration]! Have a few drinks. Alas, there are no [Tumpy Tonics].'

    You say, 'What celebration?'

Groflah Steadirt says 'The Freeport Militia now has a bar to themselves. Luckily, it is not this one. Ahh... I tell you, I just don't feel up to much right now. I have had so much grog, my great grandma could best me!'

You say, 'What are Tumpy Tonics?'

Groflah Steadirt says 'Tumpy Tonics are great! I used to drink them often in a bar in Kaladim. Kind of glad they don't serve it here. I could not stop drinking them and they would cause me to constantly drain the dragon. I get tired of running to the docks for that reason.'

You may follow the quest to make Tumpy Tonics or just craft them. Upon hand-in:

Groflah Steadirt says '<glug, glug, glug> Ahh! I missed those. I was just telling myself the other... Uh oh! I have to use the little dwarf's facilities. Excuse me.'

How to get Groflah to Spawn

Waited around for a few days, hoping that he would be one of the spawns at 7pm game time. New spawn always pops around then, current one despawns around 5pm, but no luck. Instead I killed one of the spawns (Sir Edwin Motte) and about 3-4 hrs later in game time he spawned. Seems this is almost guaranteed way to get him to spawn in the Searfarer's Roost.

The NPC linked for this quest should be Groflah Steadirt in East Freeport ( https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=985 ). At the moment, the link goes to the same npc, but from West Freeport instead.

Also, even though he says he has to go and use the facilities, he sticks around to accept more tonics.

Should have mentioned you could give him 4 stacks at a time for 80 hits at once.

The NPCs that spawn at Groflah's place take a looong time to respawn, so they can easily not spawn during the night time which forces the player to kill them during the day and timing it so it spawns at night. In my case, I apply a strong damage shield, aggro the mob, turn my back and sit a bunch so the NPC dies and I don't take a faction hit. Thanks to Sony's abandonment of these old quests, you have to make do.

Also bugged is the fact that once you hand him some tonics, he comments about draining the dragon (something Trumpy says in Qeynos before he walks to the docks). He doesn't do that, and just stands there. So whatever he is supposed to do after handing him these tonics, he doesn't anymore. Son, I am disappoint.

However, the faction hits are all positive, and they're pretty big increases.

EDIT: Approximately 6-7 stacks (wasn't counting) maxed my Knights of Truth faction from low warmly. That's about 60-70 hits (requires two tonics), which corresponds to between 10-20 faction points, but probably on the lower side to be conservative.

    Still Spawns in the bar
    # Mar 16 2006 at 5:20 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, he still spawns in East Freeport in the bar. I saw him today when I was passing through, lovely that I don't need him anymore though. The time appears to no longer apply, because it was 1PM and he was there.

Odd apparently his old PH no longer apply either since they were never there when I spent a full game day+ killing everything in that bar to try to get him to spawn. well this is good news, any idea where abouts in the bar he was, like on what PH now? thanks in advance!

    Faction nerf?
    # Feb 01 2004 at 9:22 PM Rating: Decent
I think they nerfed the faction changes on this quest. After turning in 400 tonics, my DE necro worshipping Innothule is still Dubious or worse to most of these factions. Previously, I was able to get to warmly/ally with a DE enchanter worshipping Innothule turning in around the same number of tonics.

At level 11 I handed in 112 tonics and saw 0 xp gain (though great faction). so don't look at doing this as a way to raise levels to high by just storebought stuff.

    # Mar 01 2003 at 9:55 AM Rating: Decent
I used a level 1 dwarf mule to make the run to Sister Island and have Tumpy make the tonics. She got killed by a pirate on her first trip to the island but lived a good five minutes past barely missing the boat on a second trip. (I ended up attacking one of the sisters for a "ranger port" just to get out of there.)
When she turned the tonic items in to Tumpy, she went from Level 1 with NO kills to Level 5. The first few tonics took her to Level 2. Very good exp for that low level, but you get no improvements on skills, of course. By the time she was at 5 the experience was really slowing.
I then ran her over to East Freeport to transfer the items to my Dark Elf rogue for the turn-in to Groflah and to make sure he was up. Sure enough, he was. I ran the DE (apprehensive to the EFP guards) there just in time to have Groflah despawn.
I was going to wait it out, but as soon as the Barbarian PH spawned, he attacked and was joined by the Half Elf at the bar. I hustled out of there with no one in pursuit by the time I got to the zone.
Next time, I'll scout ahead with the mule and plan to wait until respawn before coming back to the bar.

It took me around 6 stacks (120) Tumpy Tonics to go from max kos to indifferent with Groflah. I intend to finish raising my faction tonight.

    getting groflah to spawn
    # Apr 27 2002 at 12:55 PM Rating: Default
hes an incredibly easy spawn to force, heres what you do.
this assumes youre a caster with dots.
first bind just outside the efp/ndr zone.
now wait for night in the bar. you will know this by the time and "Scar" the de rogue will be there as well.

groflahs spawn point is the table in the se corner of the bar near the stairs.

root and dot the ph's as they spawn, and when you are certain they will die gate out to avoid faction hits.

the only draw back to this is getting that damn paladin, hes 30-40 ish and of course has loh.

the other ph's are a de female and a barb male both mid teens or lower in lvl.

groflah usually spawns within 10min of a ph kill or 2.
    trade coalition Ill...
    # Apr 06 2002 at 9:49 AM Rating: Decent
After making sport of some halflings in RV, I did the Bandage quest to rebuild faction there. This killed my faction with Coalition of Tradefolk Illegal. Being a druid I bound at sister island, loaded up on nuts then ported to BB and ran to Kaladim to turn them into Tumpy Tonics (hand one kiola nut, one water flask to the dorf named Tumpy). I repeated this a few times, until I had 15 stacks of Tumpy Tonics.

Getting Groflah to spawn was kinda tricky. After simply waiting for about 2 hours RL time, I started killing place holders at night. Got him right away doing that. To avoid faction, I rooted, dotted and egressed. If you have a high level druid friend ask him to do this for you, it may save you hours of sitting in a bar.

Anyways, 15 stacks took me from Maximum KoS (your faction can not possibly get any worse) with trade coalition Ill, to Aprehensive. All the other factions were max ally when I was finished.

    Good Luck to all.

camped waiting for this punk more hours than I would ever admit.

He is an urban legend. He doesn't exist. Or else I have the worst luck in EQ. I've done the 9 pm to 9 am camp probably 20 times. Nada.

dorfs, place holders, and a room full of drunks
    # Dec 25 2001 at 5:08 PM Rating: Default
Ok, i hope this helps. he spawns between 9pm and 9am, he doesn;t not have a specific pop time. he pops at the tables next to the stairs and across from the brew barrel. you may find one of 3 place holders (PH), a dark elf, a barb or a human, each being higher level then the last, the dark elf is light blue to 15. YOU WILL TAKE FACTION HITS FOR KILLING ANY OF THEM, and they may be added by fellow patrons, depending on who is in the bar at the time. hope that clears it all up for you

    Spawn
    # Nov 19 2001 at 11:06 AM Rating: Decent

    the spawns seem to be
    Scar and swiftfingers at 9pm-9am

and an Ogre and Barbarian Chick from 9am - 9pm

so I have a few questions...
    1
    What Dark elf Chick
    2
do I have to kill place holders
    3
what factions are these mobs on, if they are on trade folk illegal it defeats the whole point of this quest to kill them

#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 25 2001 at 5:10 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) your on the wrong thread man, but i know what you need to know, no rogue faction for turning in the bag to the barbarian woman. good luck
    Trumpy Irontoe
    # Nov 12 2001 at 1:00 AM Rating: Default
One of you mentioned Trumpy Irontoe as the one to give the tonics to. Well, I don't know what he wants in the way of [drinks], as he says, but he is in the Fish's Ale in South Qeynos. He is dubious to me, so won't even answer my question about the drinks. He may want Tumpy Tonics, but not for the same quest/factions. I believe he is Circle of Unseen Hands faction, but not certain. I know you kill him for one quest.
    is this BS?
    # Oct 02 2001 at 3:07 AM Rating: Decent
I've looked for this guy quite a few times, and I can't find him. Is this quest real? Does Allakhazam filter out the bogus quests?

I asked a gm about it, and his advice was, "Quests tend to get exaggerated on the net," and that, "All of his quests involving tonics were working properly."

    so...
    To make Groflah spawn.....
    # Aug 25 2001 at 3:21 AM Rating: Excellent
Groflah will spawn at around 9-10 PM. In the bar in the evening, there is usually a Dark Elf Rogue named Imxil TBrow or a Barbarian Warrior named Talym Shoontar. Kill him/her at around 6-9 PM, and Groflah will eventually spawn. The Tumpy Tonic quest is a good faction gainer, with 8 stacks my DE went from Dubious to Ally with the CoalitionOfTradesFolk.
HOW DO YOU DO THIS QUEST?
    # Aug 16 2001 at 1:49 AM Rating: Default
I really need to know the specifics on how to do this quest. I have a good deal of Tumpy tonics and this guy never spawns please I really need to know how to do this quest. He has never spawned once. And if you are supposed to kill the Dark Elf lady I need to know what faction she is with. Please dont tell me to do the Rebby or Janam I cant do it because im Dubious to the Rouges and KOS to the Bards. I really need this info.

You can find me on the Karana Server my name is Grudduk and im a big ugly troll I really could use this info it would help me alot thank you.

I have seen where ppl posted they killed the dark elf lady to get the spawn, and i have seen where ppl have said to kill the barbarian to get the spwan, just curious what lvl these mobs are and are there any faction hits as a result of killing place holders?
