Note: Unless you're an enchanter with the benefit of faction spells and illusions, this quest may be a bit time consuming.
Clurg, the Ogre bartender in Ogguk, has lost his bartender's compendium and wants it back badly. It is currently held by Bartender Gregor, in the Seafarer's Roost in East Freeport. Fortunately, Gregor has a lust for exotic drinks, and lacks only the ingredients to make his dream concoctions. He will give you the compendium for those ingredients. You say, 'Hail, Gregor Nasin' Gregor Nasin says, 'Sit down and name your poison! I know we are lacking in originality, but I intend to create some [exotic drinks].' You say, 'What exotic drinks?' Gregor Nasin says, 'Interested in exotic drinks, are we? I am attempting to create some of these drinks I read about in this book I found. It was called the [Barkeep's Compendium]. I will first need to get my hands on a few [exotic ingredients].' You say, 'What Barkeep's Compendium?' Gregor Nasin says, 'I found the book amongst some garbage littering the ground in Freeport East. It appears to have been created by an ogre named [Clurg]. I am sure he wants it returned, but I will never part with it. That is... unless I get a few [exotic ingredients] I need to experiment with.' You say, 'Who is Clurg?' Gregor Nasin says, 'I do not know. Ask an ogre. Maybe they have heard of him.' You say, 'What exotic ingredients?' Gregor Nasin says, 'I desire a [kiola nut], [Erud's Tonic], [honey jum] and a [Koalindl fish]. If I could get those, I would no longer need to hold on to the [Barkeep's Compendium]. Whoever returned the ingredients to me could have it!' Gregor wants you to get him the following items: - Kiola Nut (purchased on the island of Erollisi in the Ocean of Tears for 2 gold pieces) - Erud's Tonic (NO TRADE item that results from a quick quest; see the link to the left) - Honey Jum from Rivervale (droppable item that results from the Honey Jum quest; see the link to the left) - Koalindl Fish from the lake in the Temple of Life in Qeynos (NO TRADE item). You can get this fish one of a few ways: You can do the Regurgatonic quest in Ak'Anon and give the tonic to Frostbite the dog in West Karana (who coughs up a fish). You can also kill Frostbite (at the expense of your Halas faction). Or you can kill koalindl fish below the Temple of Life in Qeynos (major faction hits with the Priests of Life). Give these items to Bartender Gregor in East Freeport. It's suggested you do the turn-ins one at a time to prevent it from getting bugged. You'll receive some platinum and the Bartender's Compendium (NO TRADE). Hand in all four ingredients -- the nut, the NO-TRADE version of the tonic, the honey jum, and the fish. Gregor Nasin says, 'Now I have every ingredient mentioned in the Barkeep Compendium. Here. You take it. <..click!..> Whoops! I just closed it. It's magically sealed. I never closed it before. It's useless to you. I have no need for it any longer. Maybe you can return it to [Clurg] for some type of reward.' Your faction standing with Coalition of Tradefolk Underground has been adjusted by 5. Your faction standing with Coalition of Tradefolk has been adjusted by 5. Your faction standing with Carson McCabe has been adjusted by 1. Your faction standing with Corrupt Qeynos Guards has been adjusted by 1. Your faction standing with The Freeport Militia has been adjusted by 1. Take the Compendium to Clurg. If you're KOS in Oggok, you'll need to do faction work beforehand. Ogre or Dark Elf illusions coupled with a faction spell will also work, provided your faction isn't too low. Upon doing the turn-in, Clurg gives you the Stein of Moggok. [Thu Feb 11 16:01:35 2016] Clurg says 'Ahhh! My Barkeep Compendium has been returned! I am in your debt. I do not like to be in any man's debt. Let me offer you this as payment for your great service. Obtaining my book could not have been a simple task.' Your faction standing with Clurg has been adjusted by 50. Your faction standing with Kazon Stormhammer has been adjusted by -50. Your faction standing with Green Blood Knights has been adjusted by 50. Your faction standing with Craknek Warriors has been adjusted by 50. Your faction standing with Oggok Guards has been adjusted by 50. I have some [unique drinks]. Try one. And remember. You get rowdy, the [Bouncers] crush you.' You say, 'What unique drinks?' Clurg says 'I have been all over Norrath and even served with some very great [barkeeps in Freeport]. I am the creator of both [Flaming Clurg] and Ogre Swill.' You say, 'What barkeeps in Freeport?' Clurg says 'Yes. I have journeyed to many taverns, but it was in Freeport that I acquired most of my art. I compiled all my drink recipes in a [special book].' You say, 'What Flaming Clurg?' Clurg says 'The Flaming Clurg was my greatest creation. It brought me great respect in Oggok. Unfortunately, I have heard tales of an [imposter drink].' He won't say any more unless your faction is high enough. You say, 'What special book?' Clurg says 'Find ways to help all in Oggok. Then we will have conversation.' You say, 'What imposter drink?' As a Dark Elf, I have low faction with Halas and am KOS by the PUP (thus I would assume the regurg potion is a waste). By killing the pup am I ruining anything more than Halas faction (which sucks already and cannot be raised up)?

WHAT barbarian in with Clurg in Ogguk? It's been a lil while since my Enchanter did the quest, but the only NPCs with Clurg in Ogguk are Chef Dooga and a Bouncer...
As to Lenka Stoutheart and Bronto Thudfoot in the Seafarers Roost in Freeport, if you are KoS to Barbarians in Halas, you are already KoS to this pair.

Although time consuming, can this quest be performed by anyone if they simply have the Patience to Faction up with each group???

Yes, theoretically (big word and prob spelled wrong too) anyone can do the quest. Chanters are just best suited BECAUSE they don't have to worry as much about factions. But if you have the time and patience...dive in. Good luck and safe travels.

What is the key phrase to begin this quest at Gregors? I tried to hail him and all I get is the you say 'Hail', instead of any quest information.

To hail Gregor, you have to go behind the bar table and be right next to him. If you are not behind it, the hail doesnt work because there is a "wall" between you and Gregor.

Ok, make a new orge, find your way around the town, and then bring him outside. Then take your other character over there and drop the Compendium. Quickly get off then back on as your Orge and pick it up, do the same once you get the Stein and there you have it, the only problem is that i dont know if the Compendium is No-drop. But from reading others posts, i would say it isnt.

I did the quest with a level 29 bard using the mask that drops off the Froglock Assassin. I was able to waltz in the front door and using Cindara's Charasmatic Song I was able to attain a stien.

I have a DE rogue. Would it not be possible to do this using Sneak and Hide to interact with the neccessary NPCs? It renders you indifferent just like invisibility.

My human agnostic rogue did all parts but the last one (Clurg). Ol'Clurgy said "Come back when you done more for all of Oggok, then we talk". This was snuck behind him, with indifferent con.
I have a feeling that I *might* have been able to do even this bit with the Mask of Deception. Haven't tried it since (& have now deleted that character!)
I'd be very surprised if a bard couldn't complete it, with the mask & their faction raising songs.

Bards can do this quest with the mask of deception. They didn't nerf it for bards/rogues, only for all the other classes. Bards also get a faction raising spell, so a bard could do this quest.

I created a DE ench specifically to do this quest and have raised my faction w/ clurg to warmly but still only get a stein w/ 3 charges of healing. My magician has a stein that i traded for that has 4 charges. What i would like to know is how can i get the steins i quest for to have more than 3 charges? do i need to be under illusion ogre or can someone/something recharge it? Hopefully the 1 I have w/ 4 charges isn't an expired type of stein :(

I think there was a change made to the stein of moggok. Go to www.eqprices.com & check out the image they have there for the item. That stein has 5 charges of Light Healing & is a 1hb weapon (quite nice stats).
Personally, I'm very glad of the change, since the new stein can be equipped off hand (whereas a weapon would have to go in the primary melee slot, preventing the use of eg the staff of the wheel or sacrificial dagger...)

I have all four items to get the compendium, but I'm only lvl 6. Do I need to alliance Gregor and/or Clurg? Has anyone gotten the compendium or stein without alliance?
It won't kill me to wait a level and a half to get the stein, but I really want that sucker. I almost had a stroke while I was in Erudin, expecting invis and my illusion to drop out...

To be really safe, wait until lvl eight. Then stroll on into Ogguk as your normal DE self (providing you're not KOS - if you are, too bad. I have no clue what to do then except wait until 20 for your Illusion: Ogre) and find Clurg. Best way to get faction with him is to do Minor Illusion (indifferent faction with EVERYTHING), and then Alliance. Using these tricks, I can get up to amiable with just about anything.

NO, You must have illusion Ogre, and stuff. You need to fool Da Ogres into tinking yu be one uf dem. hehehehe K well just telling ya!

it would be wise to wait until you get to 12 so you can get illusion dark elf to get into ogguk, b/c invisible goes away when you mess with merchants, but you can go ahead and get the ingredients for the drink (b/c that doesn't require going into any evil cities) and give them to the guy in freeport while you lvl up. also make sure you buy the alliance spell b4 any of this when i did this quest the guy in the druid guild hall in surefall didn't trust me so i have to kill a bunch of gnolls (it was either that or go all the way back to freeport to buy alliance- i learned the hard way that they don't sell anywhere near surefall or qeynos) to get the flask of nitrates. good luck :)

Im a dru lvl35 and when in wolf form, Im indifferent to Clurg. Im currently working on my faction with him, Im doing the lizzy tail quest. Still not shure if it is possible for a dru to do the quest.
But if a Gnome lvl 8 finds a Dru friend lvl39+, who could cast share wolfform, he will get to indifferent, and then cast alliance at clurg.
Just a thought.

Try minor illusion then alliance - I did this at lvl12 as it gave better faction for the trade then illusion darkelf - only thing is if you've used invis to sneak in you'll be visible while casting the minor illusion (I was using illusion:dark elf to get around and the transition between the two spells is seamless)

I am a Druid and want to do the quest with the help of my ench friend. Can I turn in all the ingredients except the last and then let the ench finish? I was hoping that he could do the last part and then give me the stein.

Yes - at present you can (but note possible changes to Multi-Questing, coming soon). The last two times I did this quest I used my wizard to fetch all but the nut. I camped my enchanter by Gregor in East FP & handed in the first 3 ingredients with my wiz. I then quickly camped him & logged on my enc. She handed in the kiola nut & was rewarded with the usual faction, plat & the all-important compendium.
Using this technique (& having a stock of nuts & honeycombs) I was able to complete the quest in just over an hour :)
Obviously make sure there are no other encs about before handing over your bits :) Just let them go first.
For those without a wiz/dru alt/friend, get a port to Toxx via the WC rings & bind at the WC rings. Get the tonic & the fish, then Gate back to WC. Go to RV for the jum, Gate again. Run to FP, get the book, run down thru Ro to finish, Gate home (you can rebind in FP if you like). This takes about 2 hours & cuts out the most boring part of the trip (Karanas & HHP).
Using this technique (& having a stock of nuts & honeycombs) I was able to complete the quest in just over an hour :)

I am also a lvl 10 Dark Elf Necro, how can this be done without the alliance or human illusion spells? I would really like to obtain the Stein. Please help.

a lvl 8 dark elf enchanter can get it pretty easily but a lvl 12 enchanter of the other races will get it easier, i dont reccommend getting it before level 12 if you arent a dark elf

This quest also gives great faction, and reasonable exp.
But it is primarily worth doing for the loot.
To do this with only illusion dark elf, go to the bartender as a dark elf, cast minor illusion on yourself, recast alliance on the bartender, do the trade, then gate out. Do not remove minor illusion, as this will reveal your true form, causing you to be instakilled by the bouncer.

I must simply say this and you can all come up with whatever arguments you like, but. To do this quest, you MUST be an Enchanter. There is no other way to be able to get into all the different cities without spending 25 lvls doing nothing but different faction raisings.

I'd have to agree with this poster, the class this quest was designed for is the enchanter class. In order for other non-enchanters to be able to do this quest is to first be of an agnostic religion, some class/race combos won't allow it! Second, faction with the ogres is a must, an illusion of a dark elf (remember the Mask of Deception/deceiver being nerfed or axed completely? I do!) And after all that, you have to obtain a fish, that is very hard to do!
Anywho, other classes and races fer that matter, give it shot, but the countless enchanters will tell you that your chances of success will be slim to none!

I am a DE Mage lvl 14, and i completed all but the VERY last part of this quest. GIving book to clurg that is. The fish part wasn't that bad. If i can figure out how to make clurg like me i may try again.

MoD wasn't nerfed, you fool, it was fixed. It was never MEANT to be used by anybody but rogues and bards, and they did something stupid that allowed it to be used by ANYBODY. Not cool, Zeus. So... solution? Fix it, of course. IMO they should have just kept the old one and fixed THAT instead... I almost got ill when I saw a dark elf paladin (with a soul fire, to boot) in Oasis of Marr. *BLEAH*

First try walked into that bar in FP thought i would be kos there baam-dead. back to neriak
next try (this time with illusion human went in travern -dead
next try with illusion and alliance 8) got the quest juhooo.
first tried to get that thing in oot
now i was prepared plan was jump of the boat eraly chande into human and cast alliance and gate back when i got that thing
walked in the shop baaaam - dead
this quest was so anoyying and ive never played my enchanter again 8(

man i did this quest like 50 times back in the day when they sold for like 500pp instead of the 150-250pp they sell for now... i wish its value would go back up....

DO i have to go under Ogre illusion and invisi to make it to clurg safely? Also if i do that will the ogre illusion go away when invisi on top of it?

U can get faction with ogres by killing lot of lizardmen and froglok tads. Or just go out and buy froglok skins, 6cp each and they are in almost ALL the stores outside. Buy a few stacks and turn them in at the shamans guild.

I realize that you can kill lizardmen in order to raise faction, but what about buying the froglok skins? that sounds like a good idea considering i'm only kos with the guards not, the other npcs, but wouldn't there be guards walking around the shaman's guild who would kill you?

the quest is SOOOOOOOO easy once you get the hang of it. I am on the tunare server, if you are on same server give me a tell, and i can give you a walk through.

What is the key Phrase to begin this quest? When I go to Gregore and hail him, all I get is 'Hail'. Or do I simply give him the ingediants?

What do you say to Gregor to get him to tell you the ingrediants? (IE to begin the quest?). All I get is 'Hail' when I try to hail Gregore.
