Note: Unless you're an enchanter with the benefit of faction spells and illusions, this quest may be a bit time consuming.

Clurg, the Ogre bartender in Ogguk, has lost his bartender's compendium and wants it back badly. It is currently held by Bartender Gregor, in the Seafarer's Roost in East Freeport. Fortunately, Gregor has a lust for exotic drinks, and lacks only the ingredients to make his dream concoctions. He will give you the compendium for those ingredients.

You say, 'Hail, Gregor Nasin'

Gregor Nasin says, 'Sit down and name your poison! I know we are lacking in originality, but I intend to create some [exotic drinks].'

You say, 'What exotic drinks?'

Gregor Nasin says, 'Interested in exotic drinks, are we? I am attempting to create some of these drinks I read about in this book I found. It was called the [Barkeep's Compendium]. I will first need to get my hands on a few [exotic ingredients].'

You say, 'What Barkeep's Compendium?'

Gregor Nasin says, 'I found the book amongst some garbage littering the ground in Freeport East. It appears to have been created by an ogre named [Clurg]. I am sure he wants it returned, but I will never part with it. That is... unless I get a few [exotic ingredients] I need to experiment with.'

You say, 'Who is Clurg?'

Gregor Nasin says, 'I do not know. Ask an ogre. Maybe they have heard of him.'

You say, 'What exotic ingredients?'

Gregor Nasin says, 'I desire a [kiola nut], [Erud's Tonic], [honey jum] and a [Koalindl fish]. If I could get those, I would no longer need to hold on to the [Barkeep's Compendium]. Whoever returned the ingredients to me could have it!'

Gregor wants you to get him the following items:

- Kiola Nut (purchased on the island of Erollisi in the Ocean of Tears for 2 gold pieces)

- Erud's Tonic (NO TRADE item that results from a quick quest; see the link to the left)

- Honey Jum from Rivervale (droppable item that results from the Honey Jum quest; see the link to the left)

- Koalindl Fish from the lake in the Temple of Life in Qeynos (NO TRADE item). You can get this fish one of a few ways: You can do the Regurgatonic quest in Ak'Anon and give the tonic to Frostbite the dog in West Karana (who coughs up a fish). You can also kill Frostbite (at the expense of your Halas faction). Or you can kill koalindl fish below the Temple of Life in Qeynos (major faction hits with the Priests of Life).

Give these items to Bartender Gregor in East Freeport. It's suggested you do the turn-ins one at a time to prevent it from getting bugged. You'll receive some platinum and the Bartender's Compendium (NO TRADE).

Hand in all four ingredients -- the nut, the NO-TRADE version of the tonic, the honey jum, and the fish.

Gregor Nasin says, 'Now I have every ingredient mentioned in the Barkeep Compendium. Here. You take it. <..click!..> Whoops! I just closed it. It's magically sealed. I never closed it before. It's useless to you. I have no need for it any longer. Maybe you can return it to [Clurg] for some type of reward.'

Take the Compendium to Clurg. If you're KOS in Oggok, you'll need to do faction work beforehand. Ogre or Dark Elf illusions coupled with a faction spell will also work, provided your faction isn't too low.

Upon doing the turn-in, Clurg gives you the Stein of Moggok.

[Thu Feb 11 16:01:35 2016] Clurg says 'Ahhh! My Barkeep Compendium has been returned! I am in your debt. I do not like to be in any man's debt. Let me offer you this as payment for your great service. Obtaining my book could not have been a simple task.'

Running Through the Quest...

You say, 'Hail, Clurg'

Clurg says 'Hello, friend. Have a drink. I have some [unique drinks]. Try one. And remember. You get rowdy, the [Bouncers] crush you.'

You say, 'What unique drinks?'

Clurg says 'I have been all over Norrath and even served with some very great [barkeeps in Freeport]. I am the creator of both [Flaming Clurg] and Ogre Swill.'

You say, 'What barkeeps in Freeport?'

Clurg says 'Yes. I have journeyed to many taverns, but it was in Freeport that I acquired most of my art. I compiled all my drink recipes in a [special book].'

You say, 'What Flaming Clurg?'

Clurg says 'The Flaming Clurg was my greatest creation. It brought me great respect in Oggok. Unfortunately, I have heard tales of an [imposter drink].'

He won't say any more unless your faction is high enough.

You say, 'What special book?'

Clurg says 'Find ways to help all in Oggok. Then we will have conversation.'

You say, 'What imposter drink?'

Clurg says 'Find ways to help all in Oggok. Then we will have conversation.'

Rodcet Nife hits hard
# Aug 08 2000 at 7:08 AM Rating: Decent
it's is very true, Rodcet Nife himself will take the for of the koalindl fish. Attempting to get the nice band of Rodcet Nife with my Wizard, i killed them with a human warrior fairly easily at level 1. But to my dissmay, Rodcet Nife was not pleased with my handyword and made a personal appearance in the pool. "You have angered Rodcet Nife as he takes the form of one of his koalindl." Well something to that extreme. Anyway my pathetic little level 1 warrior was bitten for 475 damage and floated belly up. I hate you Rodcet Nife. He was KOS so i made another human warrior and went back to work. Words to the wise, con your fish.

i need a bit of help with this quest, had a bit of a whoopsie :( I tried the quest as a 12 high elf agnostic enchanter, fine, got all of the ingredients, disguised myself as a DE, went doen to Ogguk and got mangled but lots of very unhappy ogres. Am i gonna have to wait until i'm lvl 20 to do this quest?
Many a Stein

Quest can be done in 2hr37min alone, 42min with a druid/wiz of much higher level, and even having a decent bard accelerates things. Actually, anyone can do this quest if the are willing to do a lot of work on faction and make no faction mistakes. Klurg is one of more open minded Ogres, and while I dislike fish-muling it does speed things up quite a bit; I still suggest doing the regurgitonic quest, as it raises 2 other sets of factions without lowering any.
Anyone that can get into erudin can fix a lot of tough factions doing the slansin quest, orcs and goblins are good for many factions, the toughest part is getting into Oggok. If you can prepare and get in once, there are a couple ways to get faction with guards through Chef Dooga, also pretty open minded - both quests require either decent lvl or skills. Once you are no longer KoS, there is a bunch of little quests to get friendly with the rest of Oggok. Gregor, the bartender, I forget his faction, but it is more important to not mess up factions before getting to him than building any with him. It's difficult, but not impossible for anyone to do this quest. Of course, by the time a non-enchanter builds up everything to do the quest, even a bard really, they are likely to have lvld significantly anyway.
On a side note, I think we Moggok merchants should try to push the price back up on what is the best INTcaster item in the game for that slot. We should form a union or something :)
It makes me cringe when I see someone auction a GBS for 10kpp and I gotta haggle to get 175pp for a Stien.
Anyway, I've done the quest about 7 times, and have managed to get myself pretty well financed and equipped, gainning a lot of good faction, without losing any.
Minor illusion is a nice substitute for alliance for a Delf under lvl 8. In fact, I think a careful Delf with some help with the non-NO DROP items and a fish mule could do this quest at lvl 4, not sure on one point, being Sinkin LowBrow in Erudin - she might not like humans. Throw in some transpotation, and you could probably lvl to 6 or 7 quickly doing the quest without killing anything. I made it to lvl 8 before I actually killed any mobs for xp by doing various quests (hurt some skills, but got caught up).
Questions that I would like answered.

I am thinking of doing the quest. How long does anyone think it will take me to do? will I get killed doing it? I dont like to take faction hits, if I was in Illusion skeleton form am I still Kos? 30 Chanter "Servants of none"
Minor Illusion

Beg to Differ Anonymous, Minor Illusion will overwrite your current illusion, but now how to change back... Better gate, or your concerns are valid. Yes you can turn in goods while in minor illusion form, just make sure you're close enough to make the transaction.

Don't know if this is a recent change, but I do know that you can't cast one illusion while currently under another. Therefor, if you want to use minor illusion, you'll need to be absolutely sure that you are not in LoS of any ogres when you go to cast this, or when you go to switch back:)
Fishing
# Jul 30 2000 at 3:47 PM Rating: Good
The best way I've found of getting the fish is to make a halfelf palidin worship Rodicet Nife, turn in the newbie note (extra AC and faction so you can use the mule longer) this way you can use the mule 8 - 10 kills without becoming KOS (and you get night vision) PLUS the added bonus of LOH. Then you camp your Enc next to the corner of the pool, pull the fish there and kill it then check it for the lootable fish and camp then relog with the Enc and pick it up.

Can I cast invisibility on myself, go to Clurg, cast Alliance on him a few times and give him the compendium as a high elf enchanter?

Completed the quest!

Here's my comments, on having just complteded this quest today, 7/26/2000.

I started a DE Enchantress for this, and got the whole quest done up to getting the compendium by four, but since I was apprehensive to Clurg I waited for alliance to hand in the book.

No real effort is involved here, except a lot of running, and getting the fish. I started a character in quenos, worked up a couple levels and killed the fish. Logged out and in with my enchantress who was already waiting next to the pool, picked up the fish, ta-da!

Once handing in the book, minor illusion to raise to indifferent, alliance to raise to amiable (never hurts to be sure), and wala, my own stein of moggok!

so your saying you can turn in the stuff under the minor illusion?? weird
doing the quest as any class
# Jul 24 2000 at 11:39 AM Rating: Decent
Actually, it is possible to do the quest as any class, if you want to spend a LONG time working on faction and don't mind getting KOS to trolls. First, you will have to head to Rathe mountains. There you find 2 troll guards, usually camped. However, if you still don't have a stein of moggok i'm assuming you're too low to kill em anyway, so just swing at em once before they die. This raises faction with Ogre SKs. After several hundred tries, you should be at least apprehensive to the ogre sk guild. One of the guildmasters by the door asks for lizzie tails, bring him a bunch, also you can turn in lizzie meats to the guy in the middle of the raised part. Doinf this a LOT will raise your faction with Clurg... Thus, any class can, hypothetically, complete the quest, as long as you have extreme patience. Oh yeah you take a very minor faction hit with dwarves, nothing to worry about.
dont kill frostbite
# Jul 22 2000 at 1:31 PM Rating: Decent
use the reguritonic instead of killing Frostbite. He doesnt always drop the fish & you take hard faction hits w/ halas groups. no biggie right? well if you want to do quest again Bronto (the ogre in Gregors place in Freeport) just happens to have same faction. So after 4 kills of Frostbite (never got fish) i became KOS at Gregors. Good luck
Amiable?
# Jul 22 2000 at 11:43 AM Rating: Decent
maybe i'm missing something here, but couldn't you go into the bar under the DE illusion, alliance him, and then take on a minor illusion.. thus becoming amiable? or does clurg con dubious to barstools? =P

I made the mistake of not being agnostic. I was kos in neriak with DE illusion. Would i be able to possibly raise faction with that clurg dude or no?

Agnostic bards with the Mask of Deception can also do this quest.

Didn't they nerf or get rid of the Mask of Deception? If so, how are you agnostic bards supposed to do the quest now?

Ok folks, I did a search on this board adn got this Quest in a query for Wizard Quests. While this is a great item for a Wizard, this quest can ONLY be completed by an Enchanter.

Why? The factions involved, only an Enchanter can build enough faction with the Ogres, unless you want to kill Dawrf Guards all day (if you can pull off guard killing, well you can probably buy one of these anyway). I really know of NO way that any class other than an Ogre, Troll, or DE can raise faction with Clurg to Indifferent or better, but I know for sure that ANY Enchanter can pull this off as early as 12th level, and that DE's can do it at 8th. You may be able to do this with another class, but you need good faction with Halflings, Humans, Eurdites, Elves, and Ogres....Pretty tough for anything other than an Enchanter.
All the answers concerning the stein
# Jul 16 2000 at 9:52 AM Rating: Default
This quest is ENCHANTER ONLY. Mainly because you need at least indifferent faction (I have done this quest twice and it succeeded with indifferent) And the only way to accomplish this is by becoming an ogre, or become a dark elf. Yet dark elves are STILL apprehensive to the ogre. Dark elf enchanters can do this quest at level 8, because they get the illusions and they get the alliance spell. All other enchanters must be at least level 12 before undertaking this quest. They must be able to turn into a dark elf and they must have the alliance spell. After entering Oggok, the enchanter must use illusion: Dark Elf (if they are not one) and should probably go invisible. Run to the barkeep named Clurg and cast alliance on him. If he is not indifferent to you go find some way to get faction with him. Then give him the compendium. Also, if you want to get good faction with the Qeynos people (If you are using your actual enchanter to kill the fish) get the corpse and give it to Enic Ruskin, the paladin on the far side of the pool. This will give you some nice faction, and i believe it is also used to complete the Aegis of Life Quest.

oops fogot the text in the above. I have the Bartenders compendium but I am a magician. Is there anyway for me to raise my faction with the ogres in order to recieve the Stein or am I stuck with a no drop item that cost my a day and 10 pp to get?
