    You say, 'Hail, Saemey Wirewhisker'

Saemey Wirewhisker says 'Welcome to Kejek friend. I am the seer of this village for I have been gifted by the spirits with an affinity for their realm. The barrier between the spirit and physical realms is thin in these lands. The heretics know this and must be prevented from committing [atrocities] similar to those that have been committed in the past.

You say, 'What sort of atrocities?'

Saemey Wirewhisker says 'Long ago when our noble ancestors the Vah Shir were destroyed by an explosion that devastated the warring Heretic and Erudin armies an evil creature by the name of Tserrina Syl'Tor was attracted to the sudden abundance of new spirits in these lands. Tserrina was capable of capturing these spirits before they were able to cross over beyond the mortal realm and through her dark magic transformed them into a [crystalline shadow] substance.

You say, 'What crystalline shadow substance?'

Saemey Wirewhisker says 'The crystalline shadow substance was used as building blocks for Tserrina's tower on an Island near the frozen lands to the south as well as fashioned into armor and weapons for her mindless servants. Emylie Steelclaws has developed a means to purify the armor and weapons using the special properties of our Kejek forge and a smithy hammer blessed by the Titan Spirits. The purifying process transfers the imprisoned spirits into [soul orbs]. Ask Emylie about the purification process.

You say, 'What are soul orbs?'

Saemey Wirewhisker says 'I have perfected a ritual that will free the imprisoned spirits within the soul orbs. I simply require some kejek [spirit powder] to scrawl the proper sigils and a soul orb upon which to perform the ceremony. My apprentice will perform the ceremony on fading soul orbs. Simply bring him a fading soul orb and some kejek spirit powder.

You say, 'What is kejek spirit powder?'

Saemey Wirewhisker says 'The spirit power of which I speak is composed of ground spiritling stones. I will grind some powder for you if you would bring me a Valley Spiritling Stone, a Jungle Spiritling Stone, and a Mountain Spiritling Stone. Collecting the stones does not truly harm the spiritlings for when slain in this realm their essence simply disperses until it eventually reforms into a new spiritling.

Approach Emylie in the same fort.

    You say, 'Hail, Emylie Steelclaws'

Emylie Steelclaws says 'Shalom friend. My mate Kalaaro is the primary blacksmith of our village. I mostly create his tools, do touch ups and refurbishes, and maintain the [kejek forge].

    You say, 'What kejek forge?'

Emylie Steelclaws says 'Our forge has received the blessings of the Titan Spirits to burn with a supernatural flame! This flame has many beneficial properties but most importantly it can aid in freeing the spirits that have been imprisoned in materials by evil sorcerers.

You say, 'What about the purification process?'

Emylie Steelclaws says 'The crystalline shadow must be purified in the kejek forge using a special hammer blessed by the Titan Spirits. I will craft a hammer for you to take to the Titans for their blessings if you bring me a Large Brick of High Quality Ore and an Oak Shaft. Once the hammer is blessed you may use it in the kejek forge to purify the crystalline shadow and transfer the spirits contained within it to a Soul Orb that must be taken to our village seer.

Give Emylie a Large Brick of High Quality Ore and an Oak Shaft.

Emylie Steelclaws takes the supplies and begins to work on the hammer. She works swiftly and efficiently then cools the finished hammer and hands it to you.

You receive a Kejekan Smithy Hammer.

Locate a giant ape by the name of Giang Yin in Stonebrunt Mountains.

    You say, 'Hail, Giang Yin'

Giang Yin looks down upon the creature standing beneath him and speaks. 'You are brave to approach a titan such as Giang Yin. I pray that the spirits have granted you honor and respect as well as courage.'

Give him the Kejekan Smithy Hammer.

Giang Yin says 'Freeing long imprisoned spirits is a noble cause. Your hammer has our blessing to free the souls from their crystalline shadow tombs.
    You gain experience!!

    You receive a Soulforge Hammer.

Place the Soulforge Hammer and one Crystallized Shadow or Faded Shadow item into the Kejek Forge and hit combine. The trivial for all combines is 15 (no-fail).

-A Faded Shadow weapon results in the Purified weapon and a Fading Soul Orb.
-A Cyrstalized Shadow weapon results in a Purified Crystal weapon and a Soul Orb.
-A Cyrstalized Shadow armor piece results in a Purified Crystal armor piece and a Soul Orb.

From here, collect the Valley, Jungle, and Mountain Spiritling Stones and give them to Saemey Wirewhisker.

Saemey Wirewhisker grinds the spiritling stones in a mortar and pestle with foreign runes scratched into the ceramic. 'This powder will assist in matters concerning the contacting or freeing of spirits.'

You receive two Kejek Spirit Powders. Give one Kejek Spirit Powder and a Soul Orb to Saemey Wirewhisker:

Saemey Wirewhisker says 'I require a Soul Orb and Kejek Spirit Dust in order to perform the ritual that will free the imprisoned souls. Saemey Wirewhisker scrawls an arcane symbol on the ground with an odd powder and places the orb in its center. He then begins reciting an incantation and waving his arms over the symbol and orb. Moments later the orb shatters and an apparition appears.

You receive a Shattered Soul Orb.

Giving one Kejek Spirit Powder and a Fading Soul Orb (from purifying either the Fading Shadow Rapier or the Fading Shadow Spear) to Mrowro Wirewhisker results in:

Mrowro Wirewhisker says 'I require a Fading Soul Orb and Kejek Spirit Dust in order to perform the ritual that will free the imprisoned souls. Mrowro Wirewhisker scrawls an arcane symbol on the ground with an odd powder and places the orb in its center. He then begins reciting an incantation and waving his arms over the symbol and orb. Moments later the orb shatters and an apparition appears.

You receive a Shattered Fading Soul Orb.

    Titans and Spiritlings

I wonder if there is a connection between the titans and spiritlings. I have been camping this zone for spiritlings for 24 hours. So far:
There are always about 10+ Moutain Spiritlings up.
Maybe 1 or 2 valley up per 30 minutes of slaughtering.
And 1 Jungle up per hour to hour and a half.

The only titans I have seen are the Panda and the Tiger. I have never seen the Snake or Gorilla. I wonder if there is a connection between spiritlings and titans, in that depending on which titans are up, you will find more or less of a spiritling type. The panda and roam the mountains to the north, so it would make sense that there is a lot of mountain spiritling activity.

Prowler and Slyder were both up earlier today, but the spawn rate did not seem to increase in any significant way for the 3 hours I slaughtered the lower (jungle/valley) part of the zone.

I did this quest several times today, and here are my observations. First of all, this whole quest/set of quests is odd. Purifying the weapons and armor doesn't result in significantly different or improved items. Purifying a shadowed item reduces its stats, increases its saves, leaves the damage/delay ratio unaltered, and changes which races and classes can use the weapon. However, these items are so poor in quality, even for the era when this quest was introduced, that the effort required is completely out of balance with the reward. It seems to me that the point of the quest must lie with the apparitions, but they appear completely unresponsive.

In addition, acquiring the Jungle Spiritling Stones is difficult. The only way I was able to get the few I did was by bringing in a ranger alt. The Jungle Spiritlings seem to be quite rare, and I had to slaughter most of the southern half of the zone just to get a half dozen or so to spawn over the course of several hours. They don't drop the stones but perhaps one third of the time.

I was able to get enough spiritling stones for three turn ins, and the amount of Kejek Spirit Powder I received was different for each. The first turn in resulted in two powders, the second in only one powder, and for the third I was given four powders.

I would also like to confirm that you can almost certainly give your Kejek Smithy Hammer to any of the animal titans. I spent several hours trying to spawn Giang Yin before I went back and re-read the NPC's text. He never mentions Giang Yin specifically, just Titan Spirits. I then turned my hammer in to Snowbeast, who rewarded me with the Soulforge Hammer.

I attempted the purification combine in a New Tanaan Forge in the Plane of Knowledge, with "unable to combine" results. The forge in the Kejek village in Stonebrunt, called the Kejek Forge, allowed me to purify the shadowed items. I didn't try the purification combine in a normal forge, nor in any cultural forge, but I think it is safe to assume that the combine can only be done in the Kejek village's forge.

Turning in a Fading Soul Orb, created from the purification of fading shadow weapons, resulted in a fading apparition spawning. I only turned in one Fading Soul Orb, and a Fading Heretic Apparition spawned and promptly attacked me. It dropped nothing upon its "death", and gave no faction hits.

Turning in a Soul Orb, created from the purification of a crystallized shadow weapon or armor piece, resulted in an apparition spawning. I turned in six of these, resulting in three Heretic Apparitions, one Erudite Apparition, and two elder Vah`Shir spirits. I killed two of the Heretic Apparitions and one of the elder Vah`Shir spirits, resulting in no items and no faction adjustments. The Heretic Apparitions were "scowling" at me, the Erudite Apparitions were "ally", and the elder Vah`Shir spirits were "indifferent". I speculate that the Heretic Apparitions are on Heretic faction, and that the Erudite Apparitions are on an Erudite faction, most likely Peacekeepers considering the factions raised by completing turn ins for this quest. The elder Vah`Shir spirits may be on Kejek Village faction.

None of the apparitions responded to my hails. I attempted to give the Erudite Apparition and elder Vah`Shir spirit each a Shattered Soul Orb, a Shattered Fading Soul Orb, a purified weapon, and a purified armor piece. All were rejected. I couldn't attempt to give the Heretic Apparitions anything, as they attacked me on sight. All of the apparitions/spirits that I didn't destroy made their way slowly out of the village eastwards along the path, despawning at the end of it. None of the Kejek villagers interacted with Heretic and Erudite Apparitions, but they buffed, SoWed, and healed the elder Vah`Shir spirits.

I'd be very interested to know what the designer's intent was behind this quest. Was it just for lore purposes, or is there more of the quest that is undiscovered? Perhaps the apparitions/spirits would respond if hailed by one of their own race or faction. Perhaps higher Kejek Village faction would result in the elder Vah`Shir spirit responding. In all of the turn ins for this quest, I never left indifferent for Kejek Village, so gaining enough faction to test this would be difficult/annoying.
Why continue the quest after. . .

Why continue the quest after you receive you Purified reward? Why spend all that time killing the spiritlings just to get the Kejek powder to use to spawn an apparation that will at best float away and despawn and at worst kill you? At say level 35 that's a lot of effort for no gain.

Combines are No-Fail and Trivial at 15.

You can learn the weapon recipes but not the armor recipes (presumably since the armor is no-drop).

Recently converted around 16 or so Fading shadow and Crystallized shadow weapons into the resist versions. I play on Vallon Zek so any item with a resist/set of resists is generally worth alot of plat. Anyhow after the conversions I was left with alot of the orbs. So far I've freed 4 spirits. The first was a fading eruidte apparition which attacked me, presumably on heretics faction cause my druid which did this was attacked even though the apparition was green at 45. No faction No loot from him. The second and third freed spirits were normal apparitions and I followed them to the end of the road where they did just despawn. The fourth was an erudite apparition from a "Soul Orb" and was light blue to 45 I followed him out of the city and killed him, recieved exp no faction no loot. I have no idea what the shattered orbs are for, I tried handing them in to all the named cats in the village and they all gave them back, then I tried handing them to each different type of cat and they still all gave them back, handed them into "Prowler of the Jungle" he gave them back, handed them to the cat Miners and the Named fishing guy at the dock all gave them back. Tried to hand them to Gian Yang (spelling) the giant panda and it kept telling me I cancelled the trade? He wasn't moving when I traded I'd just click on him with the orb and it would return to my inventory and say I have cancelled the trade *shrug*, anyhow that did nothing. Also I've noticed there is a spawn off to the left aways when facing the cat village entrance that doesn't move is green to 45 and is called "a spirit". It's a red colored wisp and it is a Sk I'm assuming Lvl 1 because it Ht'd me for 12 and dropped in one spell, so more then likely on heretic faction also. When I hail it it insults me so I'm assuming it will talk to anyone with heretics faction if anyone has any idea what this thing says reply to this post. But what makes me curious about it is the it seems to appear everytime I free a spirit.... I'll keep researching when I free the rest of my spirits, but I still have no idea what the orbs are for. When Identified they just say what they are called Shattered Soul Orb and Shattered Fading Soul Orb. I tried combining them with crystallized shadows amounts 1-4 in the forge and nada, the pottry wheel/kiln nada, and the oven and nada. *shrug* Any one else have any ideas I'm open to suggestions. Oh yea, also there is no faction hit for killing "a spirit"

    Observations about this quest
    # Jul 24 2002 at 11:57 AM Rating: Decent
To answer some of the previous questions:

The freed spirits travel to the end of the road and despawn.

They do not respond to hails and they give back the shattered spirit orbs if you chase them down and give it to them.

Saemy Wirewhiskers and his buddy also give back the shattered orbs.

The spirits from freed from soul orbs appear to be higher level than the spirits freed from the fading soul orbs.

The heretic spirits appear to be on heretic faction. They will attack anyone who has poor heretic faction (which is most people). I have amiable Heretic faction so they leave me alone, but I have seen them attack others who are not so fortunate. I don't recall killing one so I can't say if there is a faction hit for doing so. However, I DID kill an erudite shade from a soul orb and received NO faction hits. This leads me to believe that the other spirits would also cause no faction hit. I've yet to see a vah shir spirit.

At level 38, the experience gained from freeing the shades appeared to be small but measurable. It might be interesting to give a level one peep the hammer and a weapon and some spirit dust to see just how much it is. That may ultimately be the reward for this quest, with the shattered orb and freed spirit being just window dressing.

Purifying the weapons doesn't appreciably change their value to a merchant and at level 38 I could still see plenty of blue-con spiritlings on track. If you've already made the Spirt Hammer, it might make sense to keep the fading/crytallized weapons after a ToFS raid, go to Stonebrunt, hunt the spiritlings, then make the powder and purify the weapons. Free the souls and sell the weapons to a merchant. Extra work but you get an experience reward and, if you were lucky enough to get a dagger, a mini-runed-bone-fork as well.

Interestingly enough the text does not mention what the apparition is. An Elder Vah'Shir Spirit appears which looks like a regular wisp. It gets a SOW and travels down the road from the city. Once it hits the end of the road it disappears. Does anyone know what this drops and wat the faction for killing it is?

Also Giang Yin does work for blessing the hammer. He did not respond when I hailed him but I got the hammer.

Could it be purified as well?

Could the 8th key finally be found?

High Quality Ore and Crystalized Shadow Scimitar

At level 30 I probably don't have any business trying to do this quest; Thanks to friends, I've almost completed it.

Large Brick of High Quality Ore:

I looked high and low for this item, but couldn't find it on the merchants listed anyplace or on the mobs listed here. I got lucky, in that I was camping the Goblin Alchemist in Permafrost and was with a kill happy Monk that decided the spawn time was too long. He killed the gobbos al around, I followed and looted. Score!!! one of the Goblins he killed had a Large Brick of High Quality Ore.

    Crystalized Shadow Scimitar:

After research, I found that this drops off of mobs in the Tower of Frozen Shadow. Here is the part where I think I have no business trying this quest, because the lowest level mob on the starting level is 30. Thank you friends.

    A couple of pointers:

Before going to Stonebrunt, I would accuire the Oak Shaft, the Large Brick of High Quality Ore, and the Crystalized Shadow Scimitar.

On my way from the zone to Kejek, I would hunt the spiritlings.

Go do the chatter with the cat people.

Find a titan. I didn't find Old Ghostback, so I took a chance and gave the hammer to SnowBeast (or something like that) and he gave me the next hammer :-)

Since I had to leave Stonebrunt to go to ToFS for the scimitar, I hope to finish the quest this weekend.

    # Mar 15 2002 at 10:07 AM Rating: Default
the main problem with the weapons that are purified is that none have a very good ratio, so i guess some would use in the off hand for the resists. THE BEST VALUE is the dagger, because it can be carried in the range slot.....so you get those resists without having to use a bad ratio weapon. Plus the crystalized shadow dagger can be bought for 40pp...sounds great value to me

How do you get the spiritling stones - where do you find the creatures that drop them?

you get them off of the Jungle, Mountain, and Valley Spiritlings right in Stonebrunt. But most of them drop burnt out lightstones that are No Rent; don't need those for this quest.

    Good luck.

Just to confirm that Giang Yin, the panda Titan, will bless the hammer to make it a Soulforge Hammer. He was indifferent to me in normal form and did not respond to hails.

Slyder the Ancient, the titan snake in Stonebrunt can also bless the hammer. Judging from your post and the quest post, one can believe that any titan can bless the hammer...just give it to them and you should get the soulforge hammer.

Here's a short quest version from start to finish to craft your charisma/resist weapon:

*Give Emylie Steelclaws a Large Brick of High Quality Ore (found rarely off Pickclaw Goblins and from Fire Goblins in Sol A [among other places I'm sure]) and an Oak Shaft (found from most smithing merchants).

*Give the resulting Smithing Hammer to any Titan (rare spawns...players usually kill them if they can if they're up and wandering about). You get a Soulforge Hammer from the Titan and some exp and faction.

*Combine the resulting Soulforge Hammer and your choice of weapon/armor in the Forge at the Kejek Village to recieve the Hammer back (so you can get an infinite amount of weapons for your guild or yourself), an orb, and your new purified weapon.

My skill was a big, fat 0 in Smithing, so the good news is that no skill in smithing is involved with forging the purified weapons/armors! /cheer

Also, it's my opinion that these weapons are pretty useless in combat, but they're ok for buying stuff like dots from merchants and for a primary slot resist item for priests/casters.
Where does this go from here?

This is to the last 2 posters. I am currently on Xev, and have done this quest numerous times. the forge is there, (looks like any forge) first building on the right, I purified a scimitar tonight as well. If you're getting an error message, try downloading the optional patch, it might help. I do believe that this quest continues somehow. I noticed tonight, that the spirits once freed travel quite a bit further than they used to, (didn't hail the erudite was being chased by my second freed heretic) before depspawning. Also being left with a shattered soul orb and a weapon that has been altered, and not necessarily for the best, leaves me wondering if this quest continues on somehow. It seems to me to be a rather lengthy quest for mediocre equipment, especially the no drop armor. (still looking for tunic. =p) If there's anyone on Xev that wants to get together and compare notes on this quest send a tell.

    Somes infos on purified weapons.

I tried to purify a Fading Shadow Dagger and a Fading Shadow Scimitar in the Kejekan Forge and had this message :

[Tue Feb 05 20:45:41 2002] an Item you created DOES not exist in Dbase

    ? :o( ?

I tried with other fading weapons and had the purified versions.

I tried with a Shadowbone Dagger and had the Do not combine message as expected.

It seems that the quest have some buggs ...

So, Im doing this quest on the Xev server... I get the hammer... I go all the way out to find shadowed weapons and armor... Come all thew way back to Kejek and the Kejek forge is nowhere to be seen! There's only four buildings in the whole village so I know I didn't miss it! Is this yet another broken StoneBrunt Quest on Xev? I feel I have wasted a LOT of time on this quest!! GRRRRR!!!!!

    Hummmm ...

Sorry to tell you that : you have miss the forge !

When you enter the village, go into the building in front of you and look on you right when you have the door in your back ...

Don't you think that look like a forge ?
Have you try to click on it and read the name of this container ?

I want to know if starting this quest makes a titan spawn or not , cause they are pretty rare when u look for them. All info on this matter wil be gretly appreciated. Oh and did anyone forage any kejekan palmfruit or bambooshoots recently?

Very importan question. Do you need a set smithing skill to combine the items in the forge? a post under the tunic itself said was trivial at 140 something, but, as was asked in a previous post on this thread, is getting the new item based on your smithing skill, or just a matter of hitting combine and you get your new tunic? or leggings, or gloves, or whatever. Thanks.

I did it with a smithing skill of 0. Actually improved skill to 2 after 7 successful smithings. So no skill is needed.

In addition to becoming Druid and Ranger usuable, purifying the tunic, legs, and boots makes the following changes:

    Tunic: Adds 5 Magic Resist
Leggings: Adds 5 Magic Resist, Agi+2 instead of +3
    Boots: Agi+2 instead of +3

    Hope that helps ;)

    and so on...

I just did this for the first time with my 32 Druid. I turned in the Spirit Powder and a Fading Soul Orb to Mrowro, and a Fading Heretic Apparation spawned. It looks just like the mobs from the Library in TOFS. He starts floating away and I decide to follow him for no good reason. I guess the "Heretic" part should have tipped me off.

We're barely outside the village gates when it attacks me. I only had SOW and invis on. He was blue to me at 32 and I think it had some good MR, as it resisted Snare about 6,7 times and had 50-75% resists almost every time on my Combust spell.

Killing it gave no faction hits and it didn't drop any loot or items.

NOTES : If my faction listings are inaccurate, it is because I am relying on 2nd hand information. Dark elven necromancers aren't able to do these quests without a good deal of faction trickery.

I will of course make corrections to them if they are incorrect.

It seems like Allakhazam's been slipping lately. One of the most useful things I've gotten out of this site in the past is knowing what quests I can do at my current level. Lately this site isn't even telling us what level you should be before attempting the quest to begin with, which makes that handy search feature I've paid for sort of useless. I know I can look at the mobs involved and go to the bestiary to see what level they are... but this isn't why I paid for premium. Besides that, I have to agree with Aaun, can't we just summarize a bit here? Just tell us what we need to know, I want to know what to do and the quickest way to do it. I can read the npc text myself in game. Since things are slowing down so much prior to the release of Luclin, why not go through what's already posted and fill in the blanks?
Not that I'm downing Allakhazam's... this is still THE best EQ site on the web. But it could still be a lot better.

Why does every quest spoiler listed over the past few months give every single word, leter, and punctuation mark of the quest?

I'm nearly blind from reading about 10 quests. All of which could easily be summarized and combined and be shorter than this 1 spoiler.

They used to simplify the explanations which made more sense. We're going to see all of the non vital text as we do the quest ourselves. It seams a waste of their bandwidth to include all of the nonessentials.

Hate to say it, but I, for one, enjoy the full-text versions of the quests. If there's a hint about a future quest in the text, perhaps I'll find it. Otherwise, there's no point to listing more than the path of least effort of each quest, and that way, you'd miss out on little things like why the quest was started, how someone discovered it in the first place, and like that. And compared to the comment content following each quest, the full-text description takes up comparatively little room...

As far as the shattered orbs go, it might be a quest that continues when Luclin comes out. Who knows what we will need then. There are also the 2 maybe 3 zones that could show up off of Stonbrunt based on the dead end tunnels and such.
    Couple Notes
    # Oct 27 2001 at 1:05 PM Rating: Default
After just completing the quest last night, I'd like to add a couple of things.

    1. There is NO skill check in making the hammer. This is good to know before you go spending 200pp to raise your smithing skill like I did.... The only thing you might need smithing skill for is making the Large brick to get the hammer, however that is not no drop, and your favorite smith could probably do it for you pretty reasonably.

    2. Ghostback is the only Titan that gives this quest from what I've heard. Giang Xin will not respond to hails, so I assume that this is correct.

    3. If you're doing an armor piece, you don't need to bother with the spiritling stones. You only need to do the first part of the quest, the part with Emilye and the forge. I didn't feel this was clearly stated in the directions above.

Hope this helps any of you wanting to do the quest. If you have a piece from ToFS already, the rest is pretty easy :) Good luck!

You can definitely get a Soulforge Hammer from Giang Xin, I just did it tonight. He doesn't respond to hails, but if you just give him the Smithy Hammer, he will return the Soulforge Hammer and give you the "freeing spirits" message.

Has anyone tried doing this quest with the Crystallized Shadow Tunic (which is actually a great chest item unlike the rest of the crystallized shadow crap)?

With the debate on what to do next... The quest involves collecting stuff from ToFS. Why has no one mentioned going back to ToFS to "finish" these quests. These may very well be related to the quest for the eighth floor key that has yet to be solved...
