You say, 'Hail, Shazda Kaekwon'

Shazda Kaekwon says 'Shalom, _____! I welcome you to our humble village in these [trying times].

You say, 'What trying times?'

Shazda Kaekwon says 'There are many threats currently facing this village. The kobolds of Clan Kolbok are becoming bolder in pushing the boundaries of the territory in which they usually hunt. A few of the kobolds now hunt recklessly, killing for pleasure instead of sustenance. [Rognarog] the Infuriated is the most murderous of such kobolds. Then there are the [heretics] that have been invading both Clan Kolbok and Kejek territories alike, practicing their dark sorceries as a show of devotion to their faceless god.

You say, 'What about the Heretics?'

Shazda Kaekwon says 'The heretics have not only corrupted their own spirits but they defile the spirits of the dead with their evil sorceries. Fill this satchel with the heads of invading heretics and I shall reward you for your allegiance to Kejek.

Receive Burlap Satchel. Inside it, combine four Heretic Heads (does any combination of male and female heads work?). Then hand in the Satchel of Heretic Heads.

Shazda Kaekwon says 'Less heretics to defile the lands and spirits. You have the gratitude of Kejek for your assistance in repelling the heretic threat.'

Your faction standing with Kejek Village got better.
Your faction standing with Peace Keepers got better.
You gain experience!!

You receive 7 silver from Shazda Kaekwon.
You receive 2 platinum from Shazda Kaekwon.

Sometimes you may receive Kejekan Tribal Headband or Swiftclaw Sash. These are not common, however.

most of u seemed to have gotten it by 10 turn in's. I did 17 and never got it, this was 2 years ago, so i figured it might be broken, guess its not, so i will try on my new server, but will be difficult w/out a tracker. Can anyone list the know areas where they spawn, amybe using landmarks on the map. I know with my ranger they spawned by the east river and in the north west, but /loc's will help thx

If you go to the middle of the map you should be able to track pretty much the whole zone (i have a pretty high track, but you get the idea) from here you will almost always see if a heretic invader pops.

A possible spawn point is around -378,-1205. I watch track and pick them up as soon as they pop. Only take me 10 seconds to get to them, so they can't wander far.

lvl 31 RNG. Ive done this about 10 times now and gotten the sash only once. I would imagine that this quest would be A LOT harder without tracking. the granite backs tend to have decent loot so one can hunt them while waiting for the heads

Best of luck... the sash is worth it.

I realize that some people have had harder times, but i finally got the sash after the fifth turn-in. I don't get to play much so every time I logged in for the past few months, i campthe the heretics. I was KSed once by a kejek tiger, so have a fear up to stop animals. jelquar only spawned once. my only sugestion for this quest, is to take on the other quests as well, for this will be a long camp.

Good luck all, and have fun

I've done this quest about 20 times have only gotten the Sash twice. This is a difficult quest if you dont have a tracker as there are usually only max of two heretics in the zone at any given time. Respawn seems to be about 30 minutes. Heretics only have about 800 HP and are easy kill if you can find them. This is an easy quest for druids who can port in and out easily check for heretics and leave.

I've only done the quest twice now, got headband first time and second turned up 3pp and change, but no item.

I got the empty sack while I was still holding the combined sack, then turned in the combined sack and only got money.

Is this common?

Well, I finally got my first sash, on the 9th try. I was planning on doing a test, and saving all heads until I got four of each, and try different combinations, but I got impatient, and got the sash with three necro, and one SK head. So, I don't think that it matters what your faction is, or which heads... I can also confirm that Jelquar's head counts as a heretic head, but nothing more. I got the sash without his head. So, 1 in 9 is the odds for me. I will continue to do this quest, and will see if the odds improve or not.

I hunted SB for 4lvls solo on my druid and 4 WoFS later I've only been able to see/find 2 heretics and never the named one. each time I found them not far from the shoreline pre-LoY and was wondering if there is a better spot for spotting them. I spent many months there without a single one showing on track. I know want to set my mage up in the area since for some exp & fur for trades *tailor* so any info would be helpful since no track.

Hello all. I've hunted Stonebrunt for several levels on both my Druid and my Ranger. I've killed many many of the Heretic Invaders. I read all the posts, tried all the different tricks. When I got the sash, I'd write down what I did, then attempt it again, only to get a headband. At this point, my advice is don't believe any "trick" to get the sash. I've gotten the sash 4 times, and lord only knows how many headbands. My faction is as high as it can get so that isn't it either. I personally think it is simply a random chance item, but weighted to the headband much like rolling on an item when Raiding. Sometimes you win and sometimes you don't. Good luck to you all.

This was in the item post section itself, it gives the best idea for getting this all the time I've seen, so I thought I'd pass it on.

Quote:
I have done this quest 7 times over the last 3 days and have gotten the sash on 3 of those times. Heres how I did it.
On the first two turn ins of the heretic heads I conned indifferent to the Kejekan cat people. I read somewhere else that an amiable faction may help in getteing the sash. I proceeded to spend 600-700pp working my faction up to amiable by doing the following;

*Give Emylie a Large Brick of High Quality Ore and an Oak Shaft.

*Emylie Steelclaws takes the supplies and begins to work on the hammer. She works swiftly and efficiently then cools the finished hammer and hands it to you.

*You recieve a Kejekan Smithy Hammer. You also receive a faction adjustment in favor of the Kejekan people.

Emylie Steelclaws is located in the first building on the right upon entering the Kejekan village. I then destroyed the hammer she gave me and repeated the process. I did this about 40-50 times to get my faction from indifferent to amiable. After getting my faction up I have done the quest four more time and have gotten the sash every other time, so far.

Heres the summary;
First turn in - indifferent con - no sash
Second turn in - indifferent con - no sash
Faction work to amiable
Third turn in - amiable con - Swiftclaw Sash
Fourth turn in - amiable con - no sash
Fifth turn in - amiable con - Swiftclaw Sash
Sixth turn in - amiable con - no sash
Seventh turn in - amiable faction - Swiftclaw Sah

I am going to continue working this quest for some more of the sashes. I will post some more about my success and failure rates on this. Good luck in your questing.

Did this quest maybe 20 times, each time using four heads from Heretic Invaders, each time getting the Kejeken Tribal Headband.

Today I found Jelquar the Soulslayer and took him down. He also drops a Heretic head which looks identical. I put the three regular heads and Jelquar's head in the box, did the combine, and the box again looks identical - Box of Heretic Heads. Turned it in, got the Swiftclaw Sash for the first time.

Coincidence? Probably not.
I did it! :)

Got the swiftclaw sash for my ranger today on the very first try. I killed the ones that were called "a heretic invader" to do it. Killed the shadowknight twice and the necromancer twice. For those of you think you need special heads to get the sash, you're wrong.

Ok folks. I have to strongly agree with the post below that said he must be the unluckiest guy alive. Well, there's two of us. My 52 druid gets lots of ports to stonebrunt, and every time I went to zone, hollered to see if anyone was camping the heretics and if none, tracked them down...I hate high levels that zoom into zone and take something you been camping for hours, and then exit. Well, I have 22 headbands to show for it and not a single sash. Here's the deal: I am a college grad with a degree in applied mathematics, so I do NOT believe GMs when they say we are just unlucky. Someone is untruthful, and it ain't us players... ADVICE: forget this quest, it ain't worth it unless you get experience for killing the heretics, and if you do, forget about the sash. If you get it, count yourself as lucky as you can be, but don't count on it friend. And pass the word. Another way to check on the REAL DEAL? Check bazaar and see how many FBSS's are for sale vs. these POS sashes... ALSO: remember how reliable the GMs are....

What does having a degree in applied mathematics have to do with your quest turn-out. Of course you're not going to get the sash as often-- It's the best reward the NPC has to offer.

If it were given out more frequently, you wouldn't be there trying to quest for the item. You'd just buy it in the bazaar for 50pp.

I've spent ten good levels in Stonebrunt - gotten five sashes. One is circulating in my guild, a second is on my alts... and I sold three in the Bazaar on Sullon Zek (1x1500, 2x1750). Probably did about 2 dozen turn-ins. One sash every 4 or 5 tries seems about right. They certainly exist. I used the proceeds from mine to buy Silver Chitin Hand Wraps, among other things.

this quest took very little time for me. i had tracking around 90 when i started but by the time i was done it was 122. i set tracking to my arrow key macros so every step i took i tracked. the hardest part for me was findint the cat city to begin the quest. after finding the town i found the first heritic in like 5 min and the camped and started a new character (hobbit druid) came back on an hour after killed 2 more. and camped again the next time both were mobbed and killed by green cons to me which i couldnt fear cause they werent animals. made me mad that green cons out did my damage lol. next try got last heritic head and got sash. is it worth the time i guess so but im just going to sell it cause its only 15% haste and my velium swiftblade my friend got me has about 35% haste on it. if u are looking for an easy haste item i would say go for it but if ur high lvls it would be a waste of ur time.

Is this quest broken on Karana?

I have hunted here for WEEKS of RL time and I'm very frustrated with this quest. I have killed 100 heretics and have received 25 Headbands. No Sash yet. I think this quest is broken on the Karana server. I petitioned a GM and he said that "if you receive an item from a quest, even if it's the "wrong" item (the headband and not the sash in this case) it means the quest is not broken but that you are just unlucky." Well I must be the unluckiest SOB in the world, according to my experiences and the other posts here. If anyone else has done this quest in the last 2 months on the Karana server and has received the Sash will you please post a reply to this saying so? Thank you...

I guess the old saying is true: "The 26th time is a charm." Yup, that's right...got the Sash on the 26th time turning in the combined satchel of heretic heads. Took the Sash out for a test drive and I do notice a difference in speed when I have the Sash on versus when it's not equipped. Is it worth it? I don't know. I guess. Whatever. It's called 'Everquest', right? This quest certainly did seem to take for 'ever'. I leveled 3 times while in Stonebrunt, got the WoFS to twink an alt, got some good gems that I'll sell to some wealthy enchanter at the bazaar. And hey...owning 2 dozen Kejekan Headbands is cool, isn't it? No?? Aww...dang!

Had never seen Invaders in many levels of hunting in SB, of course most of this time was spent at one of the remote Highland Kobbie camps or the ones close to Warrens zone. Then today was zonewalling my 29th pally down to Gunthak for some selling when I saw a SK Heretic, very close to area described in "trick" ie about parallel to Raging Kobold Savage camp on opposite side of river. Killed him easily. Ran down Z wall another 1/4 mile or so and found/killed Necro invader. There is very little traffic in this area, so guessing Heretics don't get torn up as quick as ones closer to kitty town. Kill any critters that wander across river in this area and I'll wager you'll get your heads in relatively short time, in a place that's safe for a group of mid 20's, ie level appropriate for the sash

i believe there are 3 spawn areas, (maybe even four). two others are just outside kejek city to the west i believe, and another is about where the grassy area to the west becomes stoney mountain area, if you have track, and hopefully SoW or Selo's just run in a triangle from that kobold camp to kejek city to grassy area, i often see them spawn about every 20 minutes.

Both dropped head, hoping to get the last 2 today. GL to all who is doing this quest, it takes patience.

There is a named heretic called Jelquar the Soulslayer. He is a SK and is of higher level than the basic heretics. My lvl 35 druid snared him easily, but then the SK broke my roots very quickly and easily. He will harmtouch and dispell magic to debuff you if he is in range. Luckily, my KEI was in my eighth buff slot, so that was not dispelled, but I lost my damage sheild, SoW, and Endure magic buff. He brought me down to two bubs of health, but I was able to run out of his range to pop a few heals to myself. Eventually, two dots, two nukes and another dot finally brought him down. Looted his head and completed the quest. Got the Swiftclaw Sash the first time. WOOT! Just dont hunt in wolf form. Good Luck!

Earlier this week I managed to collect the parts I needed for a Wakazashi (sp, I know) of the frozen skies. Decided I liked it, so today I figured I'd go get another and see how they dual wield. Within 2 hours I had all but one panda claw, and 3 heretic heads. Logged, came back about 4 hours later, got the claw and another heretic head...got lucky on the turn in and now have the sash and 2 new swords. The only real information I can glean from my hunting today is that it MAY help to kill pandas, in order to get the heretics to spawn. But I'm thinking I just got lucky....

========EDIT========

One more thought, or just an observation....

I didn't see any of the titans pop today. Not sure if their presence would have anything to do with the heretic spawns or not, but it's worth noting, since I have seen at least 2 of them every day before now.

If you either got real lucky or had a tracking partner. The heretics aren't hard to beat...after their initial HT, they're pretty weak. Problem is they blend in with everything, only spawn 2 a day, and the other (tougher) mobs in the zone will kos them. Wandering around hoping to find a heretic will be frustrating for you in the least.

1 for 12 - as in 48 heretics to complete this quest. ANyone wanna buy a Headband ?

I've actually done the quest twice - yes I know it's lore - gave the first to a friend to hold while I did it again - never again.....That time I got it on the 5th try.

Very tedious this time, and frustrating considering the time it takes to wait for heretics. But ... I'm almost 38 - and the loot and XP is not bad here at all - and a very nice zone to solo for a ranger if ya like that sort of thing.

So - patience, track, and the knowledge of 'you might not get it this time' and yes... the quest is still active. Never seen anyone selling one.....no wonder why I guess.. (but FBSS and SCHW are for sale ...go figure)

I received the sash today on November 16, 2002. I would like to share how I got mine. After 4 failed attempts, I collected 8 heads instead of 4. I gave the NPC the first 4 no luck. Second 4--->Swiftclaw sash.

My ranger is currently level 33, but started here at 30. I have a few WoFS, then I saw this quest. Killed 4 heretics, forgot to hit combine in my excitement, turned in the satchel, it was given back MINUS the heads (oof). Now I'm scrambling to get my last head for the next batch, and have seemed to hit a lull in the spawn.

I have this down to as much of a science as you can get. Each EQ hour is exactly 3 realtime minutes. My track radius at level 35(170) is exactly 2845 coordinate points. I sat around -1675,-200 for a full EQ day...nothing. I have seen heretics at 1AM, 5AM, 12PM. The point being, there is no rhyme or reason to this spawn. I think they can pop at anytime, anywhere.

So I agree with lagredell. Don't waste time waiting on the heretics. Just do your thing, and let those spawns come to you. Rangers with their track maxxed out at around this level have a RADIUS of close to 2800 coordinate points. Just kill around that -1600, -200 area, keep checking track, and eventually those heretics will pop for you (at least I hope so). This zone is a Ranger's paradise for experience, but I think the well will start to run dry around 36 or so.

Best of luck to all of you.

They're not a totally random pop. Two heretics spawn a day. However, they're kos, so if a heretic pops in front of an elder panda, it doesn't last long. For awhile, it was running a very distinct pattern. One would pop between 8am and 9am game time, kill it and another popped 10 RT minutes later. That pattern held for about 6 EQ days. It has, however, went back to random pop, but still two a day. Tendency is for one to spawn at morning, and a possiblility of one shortly after, so track hot and heavy for 10-15 min after you kill the first one. If it doesn't pop, then the second can show up anytime. Hope this helps.

I have been hanging around this zone, leveling from 29 - 34, almost 35 :) I finally got my sash today. Some tips:
Don't sit and wait for the spawn, it's a waste of time. Find an appropriate hunting ground where you know the pathing that's still in range w/ track. Check occasionally to see if one's up.
When you kill one, there will often be a second one spawning almost right after, so be alert.
I've found a great spot to be loc neg3000, neg 300. Face east and sit on the ridge you see. Animals will walk right by... you can pull back to the clump of trees @ -3000,-300 and fear them from there. Plus, the Heretics will show up on track there.
When you're chasing down a Heretic, remember to Invis first. And keep Panic Animal up in case of those nasty adds.

The Mobs you are looking for are Heretic Invaders. There are two types of heretics, a male Erudite Shadow Knight and a female Erudite Necro. Both are around lvl 26, both drop their heads, and were possible to solo with a lvl 26 (un-twinked) druid, but it was a close thing.

From my experience the heretic invaders seemed to spawn in the tundra between the jungle and the mountains in the zone, and on the whole seemed to spawn every few hours. When they spawn they are KOS to most things in the zone and they wonder around killing everything they come across until they are killed by something (or by you ;), so they don’t stay up for much time.

If you are after the sash, be warned, I had to do the quest 5 times before I got it, so that was 20 heretics I had to find. I would really recommend that only do this camp if you have track, or have a friend who has, and is prepared to spend several hours with you. That said I like this zone, I took my druid from lvl 23 to lvl 31, and my rogue from lvl 26 to lvl 28 while hunting in this zone so getting the sash was a bonus.

I got the belt tonight ... 1str turn in. =D !!
I read a few post that said that they did the turn in and DID NOT get the belt =(
Was just wondering if the combination of heads was a factor ? I dunno, im just guessing ... but I had 2 Female + 2 Male Heretics heads.
I got the First male head North of city
2nd head was from Female down along the river, south, 3rd was female head almost same place as 2nd, 4th head was male head ... way south almost by the water, he was walking from the zone towards the river.

Hope this helps ...

I just finished this quest finally with my 35 ranger. It was easy enough but took a very long time to complete. I got the sash with the 5th attempt but the headbands are great gifts to guildmates or lower alts. I don't think the combo of the type of heads matter, since you combine them in the satchel before you turn them in and create a new item. It is a random reward and it is LORE so don't attempt another without giving your sash to a friend.

Here is what I did to complete this quest:

I took Daniel's advice and hung out at n1200, n800 by the tree on the west side. I sorted track to normal for most current spawns on top and filtered out all green. At level 35, heretics were either lightblue or blue. As soon as they popped, I'd get them. I found that their spawn rate varied from 2-3 hours and when one popped, another was not too far behind on spawning, anywhere from instant to 20 minutes.

I wouldn't recommend this quest for anyone that can't track and rangers have the advantage of modifying tracking to make it meet their needs even more than druids. So if you can't track, get a friend that can. I don't know how you'd do it by running around hoping to run into a heretic invader. They spawn about in the middle and roam the hills. Even with track, I would run right past them not seeing them, especially the female necro who wears a brown robe.

Anyway, good luck to all that try. Your patience will be well tested. I did the WAK sword quest while doing this one. Not a bad sword.

Exp is great in Stonebrunt at 35 (I actually got 36 doing this quest) but watch out for adds and always have fear animal ready!

Be safe!

I have gone back to do this quest again for a guildmate and have noticed that the heretics now aggro with the animals in the zone. I don't believe they did before the last patch since I could pop on and see them walking clear across the zone. The last 2 I have found were being attacked by tigers, so I have to save the heretic from the tiger so I could get it. So now they do not last long once they spawn. I was tracking one tonight and "lost target" when I was the only one in zone.

I believe the sash will be that much rarer in Norrath.
