  • At the end of the previous quest, Betti Frostweaver told you to show your Embroidered Coldain Prayer Shawl to Gilthan.

Gilthan Brittleblade says 'So, you've been chosen to attempt the rune, eh? Been ages since anyone's even made an attempt. The rune represents the very essence of our people, our culture, and our religion. Take a sea shell runed with enduring breath and a small brick of velium and grind them together in a mortar and pestle. Add water to the powder and model the rune. Fire the rune with water and the best of firing sheets. Show the product to Trademaster Kroven.'

  • Head off to Siren's Grotto and kill Sirens until you get a Runed Sea Shell with one charge of Enduring Breath.

  • Combine the Sea Shell and a small brick of velium in a Mortar and Pestle (if you are a rogue) or in a Mixing Bowl (any class) to get an Enchanted Velium Powder (No-Fail Combine).

  • Now combine the Enchanted Velium Powder and a Water Flask in a pottery wheel to get an Unfired Rune (Pottery Trivial 162).

  • Combine the Unfired Rune with a High Quality Firing Sheet and Water Flask in a kiln to receive a Blank Rune (Pottery Trivial 15).

  • Now show the rune to Trademaster Kroven (also in the Thurgadin Exchange).

Trademaster Kroven says 'Fine piece of work there, _____, especially fer an outlander. Now yer gunna need to make a burin to etch the rune with. Once that's done ye need to kneel in the chapel and recite this prayer with total sincerity in yer heart. If yer plea be heard by our Father Brell he'll bless ya with the knowledge necessary to carry on. With that knowledge you'll take the blank rune, the burin and a fletching kit to etch the rune. Show Grimthor the etched rune and he'll guide you from there.'

  • Receive a Prayer to Brell.

    You say, 'What burin?'

Trademaster Kroven says 'You'll need a fletching kit and a fair bit of skill for this one, _____. Round up a tooth from a swordfish and attatch it to an Ulthork tusk wrapped in a Molkor hide.'

  • Head to Siren's Grotto and get a swordfish tooth from the swordfish and a molkor hide from the molkors. You can also get ulthork tusks there but they're much easier to get in eastern wastes where you can kill the low level ulthorks for their tusks. The swordfish tooth is NO DROP which is the only item actually forcing you to go into Siren's Grotto.

  • Combine the tusk, swordfish tooth, and hide in a fletching kit to get Burin (Fletching Trivial 135).

  • Go to the room where the quest started with the Grand Historian. Make sure Grand Historian Thoridain is in the room and stand at /loc -343.61, 803.92, -17.11, target yourself and then say the following prayer until you see a message saying you've been inspired:

You say, 'Oh Brell, Thank you for protecting me and seeing me through my trials. Forgive me for the things I think and say and do that displease you. Please reveal to me your will and bless me with the patience and obedience to do that which you desire. Amen.'

You have been inspired. The sacred pattern of the Coldain rune materializes on the ground before you.

  • On the floor in front of the Historian is an Etched Rune Pattern at /loc -319.28, 793.04, -17.11. This pattern needs to be combined with the Burin and Rune in a fletching kit. This makes an Etched Rune (Fletching Trivia 168).

  • Show your Etched Rune to Grimthor by the brew barrel in Thurgadin.

Grimthor Brewbeard says 'That looks about right. You're moving along well outlander. Next you'll be needin to brew up a sacred ink to fill the grooves in your rune. Take Iceclad Cutlass fish oil, liquid velium, and some Royal Kromrif blood, brew them in the barrel here then take the product and the rune and combine them in a fletching kit. Show Talem Tucker the resulting item if yer successful.

You say, 'What cutlass fish oil?'

Grimthor Brewbeard says 'Grab a pole and fish the waters in Iceclad until you catch yourself three Iceclad Cutlass fish. Place them in this oil extractor and you'll have whatcha need.'

    You say, 'What liquid velium?'

Grimthor Brewbeard says 'Collect a small piece of velium and a bottle of rubbing alcohol and brew them together in a barrel. It aint easy, but it should prove to be a minor task for the likes of you.'

  • Receive Fish Oil Extractor, a four-slot container.

  • Fish in Iceclad until you get three Cutlass Fish and combine them in the extractor (Fishing No-Fail Combine). This results in Cutlassfish Oil.

  • Find some Rubbing Alcohol (bought from either the Mortician in Cabilis or at the Icy Mug in Thurgadin - west of the four-way on your map). Combine the rubbing alcohol and a small piece of velium in a brew barrel to get Liquid Velium (Brewing Trivia 135).

  • Get some Royal Kromrif Blood from Iceshard Manor in Kael Drakkel.

  • Combine the Liquid Velium, Fish Oil and Royal Kromrif Blood in a brew barrel. This results in a Sacred Velium Ink (Brewing Trivial 168).

  • Combine the ink and rune in a fletching kit to get a Velium Etched Rune (Fletching Trivial 168).

  • Go to the jewelry store in Thurgadin by the Exchange. Show your rune to Talem Tucter.

Talem Tucter says 'I've heard of your mission, _____. I must admit that I had my doubts you'd make it this far. The rune's creation is nearly impossible for even the most skilled of Coldain craftsmen. You should be exceedingly proud. Many have attempted this feat and nearly all have lacked the skill, faith, patience and persistence that is prerequisite for what destiny holds in store for you. You are now ready to use this pattern to construct the sacred rune's casing and complete the runed shawl.'

    You say, 'What casing?'

Talem Tucter says 'Combine two platinum bars, a small piece of velium and the casing pattern in a Jeweler's kit. Take the completed casing and the rune and combine them in the same kit. When this is done all that's left is to tailor the rune to the shawl with the pattern. Take the finished product to Borannin, I'm sure he's eager to speak with you.'

  • Talem really means Loremaster Solstrin.

  • You receive a Rune Casing Pattern. Combine this pattern, a Small Piece of Velium and two Platinum Bars in a Jewelry Kit to receive the Rune Casing (Jewelry Trivial 152).

  • Now combine the casing and the rune in a Jewelry Kit to receive an Encased Velium Etched Rune (Jewelry Trivial 162).

  • Take the Encased Velium Etched Rune, Runed Prayer Shawl Pattern, and your Embroidered Coldain Prayer Shawl. Combine them in a tailoring kit to receive your 7th Shawl: Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl (Tailoring Trivial 162).

  • You can then go show Loremaster Solstrin your 7th shawl. Do NOT hand his your shawl until you have read the steps for the 8th shawl.

Loremaster Solstrin says 'Incredible! Never before has an outlander been skilled and determined enough to craft our sacred rune. You are now worthy of the Dain's most perilous task. You should seek an audience with the Dain immediately. Show him your Runed Prayer Shawl, he will give you the task that has been prepared for you. If the Dain is away show your Shawl to Chamberlain Krystorf and he will call for him.'

When the Grand Historian Thoridain is on stage:
The location to stand is at -343.61, 803.92, -17.11
The location of the Etched Rune Pattern that appears is in front of Grand Historian Thoridain, on the ground, not on the stage, at -319.28, 793.04, -17.11

It is sort of mentioned a little bit below, but just to be totally clear Grand Historian Thoridain absolutely has to be in the room when you say the prayer to Brell in order for the ground spawn pattern to appear. I must have spammed the prayer 100 times at different times of day, and I was receiving the "you have been inspired..." message, but no ground spawn was appearing. Grand Historian Thoridain was standing outside the room though and he didn't seem interested in moving at all. Finally I had a SK friend attack him and pull him into his usual spot on the stage, said the prayer, and ground spawn appeared right away.

You can then go show Loremaster Borannin your 7th shawl.

Loremaster Borannin says 'Incredible! Never before has an outlander been skilled and determined enough to craft our sacred rune. You are now worthy of the Dain's most perilous task. You should seek an audience with the Dain immediately. Show him your Runed Prayer Shawl, he will give you the task that has been prepared for you. The above is fairly incorrect. Yes, Talem does indeed say to take the finished product to Borannin. However, Borannin won't accept it and responds with his usual 'I have no use for this' message.

If you give the #7 shawl to Loremaster Solstrin in Icewell Keep, the above dialogue attributed to Borannin (beginning with Incredible!...) is precisely the text that Solstrin uses.

    **HEADS UP**

Suggestion: Once you have your #7 shawl completed, don't give it to ANY NPC until you have made all the armor and are ready to give the final Completed Armor Kit to the Dain in the #8 shawl quest. Giving shawl #7 to the Chamberlain allows you to force a Dain spawn -- once and once only. Chamberlain returns to you a different shawl #7 (Lore: Approved by the Dain), making it so you cannot force the Dain to spawn repeatedly. The PROBLEM is ... giving your #7 shawl to Solstrin also returns to you the Lore: Approved version -- which cannot be used to spawn the Dain.

You have one chance to force a Dain spawn; you give that shawl to anyone before you're ready and you just burned your one chance! Now, you get to try to catch the natural spawn before someone else kills it :/

I gave my Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl to Loremaster Solstrin and he gave me back the same version of my shawl, along with the Empty Coldain Issue Kit.

It wasn't until I gave the Runed Coldain Prayer Shawl to Chamberlain Krystorf to spawn the Dain that I received the 2nd version. And of course Dain gives you back the 2nd version as well.

yea this needs to be fixed on the page, just because the quest says to do it the wrong way doesn't mean it should tell you here to do it that way. For the record and those skimming let me put this in caps. DO NOT TURN THE RUNED SHAWL IN TO ANYONE BEFORE YOU MAKE THE ARMOR, AFTER THAT TURN IT IN TO THE CHAMBERLAIN IN ICEWELL KEEP, THEN TURN IT INTO THE DAIN, THEN TURN THE ITEMS IN TO SOLSTRIN, COMBINE THE ARMOR IN THE KIT, RUSH BACK TO THE DAIN AND FINISH TURN IN. If you turn it in to even the chamberlain early, you've lost your chance if someone decides to kill the dain in between your combines and turn ins. Helped someone recently and they did this wrong, and not thinking, I just turned it in to the chamberlain (while the dain was up, no idea what I was thinking) and I haven't made the armor yet. If you petition about a ***** up, make sure you name someone that they have fixed the problem for or they will tell you to just wait. They fixed it for Anaine on Drinal, if that helps.

You can also buy Rubbing Alcohol in Thurgadin without needing to go to Cabilis. Adia Coldbeard and Karey sell them at The Icy Mug bar for 1 sp. The bar is west of the top four-way on your map.

The text has been changed when you show Loremaster Borannin your Runed Prayer Shawl:

Loremaster Borannin says 'Incredible! Never before has an outlander been skilled and determined enough to craft our sacred rune. You are now worthy of the Dain's most perilous task. This is correct, stood to the left side of stage and started prayer, nothing happened. Then I noticed I had a someone targeted, hit escape to clear name, then said prayer again. You have been inspired. The Sacred Pattern was on the floor, center aisle in front of the stage. Looks like a small bag.

(My Experience that should read) I, Like Riibit, failed the casing + rune combine, my skill was 170... definately a huge ARRGGGHH!! The information posted below by Sanctimonius about tailoring trivial is incorrect.. with tailoring at 170 I didn't get the trivial message for the 6th shawl combine and failed it twice, although I imagine 162 is the trivial for the 7th shawl.. Thankfully a lot of the items in this part of the quest are droppable.. a lot of random things to have to gather up/camp again. Having purchased only the Royal Kromriff Blood the first time through, the rest took me about 5 hours total over a few days. This time I will buy all the items I can to save time for the fear of failing the combine again.. The 7th portion has been less of a pain than the 6th for sure and maybe the 5th. It will all be worth it in the end!

Prayer to Brell easy as Pie
    # Feb 14 2005 at 11:03 PM Rating: Excellent
I, Sanctimonius Pontificus, Holiest of Paladins, followed the instructions on eqtraders.com and got my Prayer in one try! It works, and I have copied the instructions from eqtraders (an awesome site as anyone working on this quest surely by now knows) below for easy access:

Go to the Temple of Lore and stand facing the stage. See how there are steps on either side of the stage that lead up to it? Go stand in the area to the left of the stage at the base of the steps on that side. Then recite the prayer that Trademaster Kroven gave to you. Make sure you are saying it in /say and without any misspellings and that you do not have anyone targeted. Don't put it into a hotkey on the five different lines, it must be typed out all in one big long shot. You will get the message "You have been inspired!" and the pattern will appear on the ground in front of the stage...NOT at your feet . There are reports that it is on a timer, so it is possible that you might do everything right and still not get inspired if someone has done it within 45 minutes or so. Try coming back later. Note also that there seems to be a problem getting the pattern to appear if the Grand Historian Thoridain is not in his usual spot on the stage. If he is out of place you may need to petition for him to be escorted back before Brell will see fit to provide you with the pattern.

AND SEE MY POST BELOW ABOUT HOW THE TRIVIALS POSTED IN THE WALKTHROUGH ON ALLAKHAZAM ARE MISLEADING!

The numbers are generally much lower! scroll down...

ALL TRIVIALS POSTED in the DESCRIPTION ARE WRONG!!!
    # Dec 17 2004 at 6:58 AM Rating: Default
I, Sanctimonius Pontificus, Holiest of Paladins, nearly quit this quest in frustration when I thought from reading the description that I had to get my tailoring to 212! It is not so, and a careful perusing of the earlier posts in this thread proves it.
Unfortunately, I (and I'm sure many others) will not bother to read every one and walk away thinking the posted trivs are right.

HERE ARE THE REAL NUMBERS (go to eqtraders.com to confirm):
Your tailoring need only be 162
Brewing: 168 (but brewing seemes to fail 30% of the time for me even for triv items until I am 10 points over the triv level, so I recommend bumping it a bit past this)[sm]
    Jewelcraft: 162
    Fletching: 168
    Pottery: 162

I ASK ANY PEOPLE WHO POST AFTER ME TO INCLUDE A CLEAR ALL CAPS LINE AT THE TOP OF THEIR POST LETTING PEOPLE KNOW THE TRIV NUMBERS ARE WRONG, SO NO ONE ELSE SPENDS A FORTUNE TRYING TO GET TAILORING to 212!!! A POX ON ALLAKHAZAM FOR POSTING THE WRONG NUMBERS! HOWEVER, BLESS ALLAKHAZAM FOR POSTING THE QUEST INFO!

I just went to Thurg to do this part for 2 toons simultaneously. One spammed away, the other stood right in front of the little stage Grand Historian Thoridain stands on, right where it will eventually spawn. I noticed it spawned when I recited the prayer while being left of the stage/scene facing it (south side) and only after Grand Historian says something that ends with "...in what was then our 300th annual snowball fighting tournament . ."

I don't think the place I recite the prayer is as important as the time after he talks about the snowball party, as it seems obvious that the system samples the prayer at that part of Thoridain's cycle of his little stories. I tried a third time after getting spawn for both toons, this time without spamming at all. Just after the snowball sentence I started spamming, and bingo, I became inspired :)

    lvl req. for the pattern?

Spent about 10mins spamming away in the chapel for my pattern today, running the shawl quest again on my lv32 alt. (craziness). Just wouldn't spawn for me.

Brought my main down.. and spawned 2nd go.

Beginning to think there's some level based thing going on there to make it spawn..

The main has done the entire quest before and has his 8th shawl.. but certainly didnt possess a copy of the prayer or anything.

Just a lil info for any who are having problems..
    Wrong trivial on final combine.

Tis walkthrough says the trivial tis 212 for the final combine ? That's not true. I just did the combine (successfully) with 192 Tailoring and it said you can no longer advance your skill from making tis item.
