At the end of the previous quest, Rexx Frostweaver told you to speak to his wife Betti regarding the embroidered shawl.

You say, 'Hail, Betti Frostweaver'

Betti Frostweaver says 'Well, hello there, dear, it sure gets cold here, doesn't it? Perhaps I can interest you in a sewing pattern to pass the time and keep you warm.'

You say, 'I am here regarding the embroidered shawl.'

You receive an Embroided Shawl Pattern.

Betti Frostweaver says 'It will be an honor to assist you in fashioning an embroidered shawl. It is a very demanding product and I can see from the look in your eyes that you desire to burn your sewing kit in our furnace, but if you persevere, your efforts will be richly rewarded. When you are ready you must carefully weave a spool of sacred Coldain thread. Take the thread, this pattern, and the silk shawl and carefully embroider the pattern. The result will be most exquisite. Please show me if you manage to create one.'

You say, 'What sacred Coldain thread?'

Betti Frostweaver says 'Take a woven frost giant beard, two siren's hairs, two manticore manes and two Drakkel dire wolf whiskers, and combine them in a sewing kit. The resulting thread will enhance your shawl's power when embroidered in a special pattern.'

The Woven Frost Giant Beard is an uncommon drop from various frost giants across Velious. It is droppable, so you may find it on vendors in Thurgadin.

The NO DROP Siren Hair drops from sirens in Cobalt Scar and Siren's Grotto. This should not be confused with Lock of Siren Hair, which is used for a different quest.

The Manticore Manes are a common drop from A Manticore in Eastern Wastes. These are also droppable and may be found on Thurgadin vendors.

The NO DROP Drakkel Wolf Whiskers drop from A Drakkel Dire Wolf in the Great Divide. They're often left to rot by players killing for faction, so a quick zonewide /shout may net you one or more rather quickly.

Once you have all the components, combine 1 Woven Frost Giant Beard, 2 Siren Hairs, 2 Manticore Manes, and 2 Drakkel Wolf Whiskers in a sewing kit to craft a Spool of Sacred Coldain Thread (trivial 148). Combine the thread with the Embroidered Shawl Pattern and Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl in a sewing kit to craft an Embroidered Coldain Prayer Shawl (trivial 208). If you fail the final combine, you get the shawl back. If necessary, follow the initial dialogue to get another pattern.

Give Betti the Embroidered Coldain Prayer Shawl.

Betti Frostweaver says 'Spectacular artistry! I doubt I could have done better myself. You'll have to forgive me, I know time is short and I tend to carry on. This is the pattern for the making of a rune sacred to our people. It will be our final test of your craftsmanship and will put many of your skills to the test, but I trust you'll find the finished product to be more than worth the effort. Show Gilthan the silk shawl, he will set you on the path. May Brell always be with you outlander.'

I would assume the COldain kit as that is the one i used for #5 quest as i am just starting #6 that is the one i will use.
skilling from 100 +

From skill 110 - 115 really try to go with the quiver pattern then go to Crystal silk armor to 131 then to Wu's armor to 158. Easier than imbued if you can do imbued. only problem with WU's is getn an enchanter to make the manna vials as you need oh roughly 300 vials at a cost of no less than 6.5pp per vial

I got 8 stacks of vials made, only used 7, and the wus can be sold for 10 or 20 very easily if ya want to recoup losses, legs arms and cape sold well at least, and sandals were an easy 50

(not many monkey shoes out there anywhere close to this good for this difficulty)

Cry silk was much harder, cause of the much more limited silk supply, if these wu things had been available when my tailoring was in the 100 to 110 range, I would have skipped the cry silk altogether.

attempted the 6th shawl at 102 and again at 110 with failures. I am going to attempt again with 140 when I get there. Since the crystal caverns are so heavily camped I am looking for other inexpensive ways to make my tailoring skills go up. Does anyone have any ideas? I am talking about the exact recipes from 110-150 or so. I have been working on shoulders(silk) and the fizzles are high. Back to c caverns to get more silk and I am about ready to burn my tailoring kit. I wish somone from Verant would pop on and give us the level needed for this quest. You would think being a Master tailor would be enough. I mean come on... Who ever heard of a blacksmith also being a master tailor, fletcher, potter, and baker? But I am a master at all of them 1000's of pp and hours later. I really hope they drop the skill level needed to complete the sixth shawl. I had a friend fail today with 135 and I know of one other that failed at 140. This is ridiculous considering the time involved getting to these levels. I mean its not like we are going to quit the game when we get the embroidered prayer shawl. Throw us a bone here... I wanna get this quest over so I can go back to my three week aegis of life camp.

I'm in total agreement here - the Tailoring requirements attached to this quest are GOOFY. I've seen posts by people with 190+ skill who "are waiting to get their skill up before trying again". Eff that, whatta joke. I've been busting my *** to collect Old World silks for the last FOUR months - whacking spiders for endless hours in WC & South Ro, bribing n00bs, and dumpster diving the Freeport merchants... I got 10 stacks for my trouble. This took me all the way to Tailoring 60.

I know the 5th shawl Trivials at 110, and I think this is where Tailoring and I will go our seperate ways. I'd MUCH rather burn my way through components for a chance than burn all pleasure out of EQ for a certainty.

if you go to wfp in the tunnles that you take to get to nfp if you are a hated race you can buy all teh poision vials you need so you do not have to make them. then head to last inn in ec and buy all the pearls you need. then hang around your trade zone (ec is the one on innoruuk as it is on most servers) and auc that you are looking to get them enchanted you need a lev 16 + enc and if enc does not have spell they are sold in lfd at brownies get wolf form / or some enc illusion and you can buy the spell purify mana when scribed it becomes thicken mana. hope this helps

It looks as though Verant upped the spawn of the manticores. I was pulling the occasional giant and Ulthork man o' war that was btm in the corner below Kael and saw no less than 5 manticores in one small area at one time. I killed a couple but no manes. Probably the sirens will be the hold-up here, but this gives us something to do when we can't get a decent group for Velketors for the threads. I'll probably have the stuff to do the sixth by the time I get the stuff to do the 5th.
Which Kit?

You place the beard, manes, hairs, whiskers and combine with WHICH kit? Then thread, shawl, and pattern in WHICH kit? The special Thurg tailoring kit or any tailoring kit?
Not so easy
# Jun 07 2001 at 8:27 AM Rating: Good
Ok. People say "bah it easy to make, not lot of component needed". Well, i can tell you the spoiler was wrote before the patch who changed the stat. Verant badly nerfed the drop rate of some component. Dire wolf whisker not common anymore - Now hyper rare. around 1 per 70 kill, 5 hour of killing wolf. Siren hair the worst now, 1 hair in around 50 kill. Got a great total of 6 hair in 8 hour of hunting in Cobalt scar.

Also take note that maybe some player made the combine in the 120 of skill, they were very lucky. I got to failure at 144 and 148 of skill. They changed the stat of the shawl, and nerfed the drop rate.

What are you smoking? I was hunting giants for toes and heads with the occasional wolf for faction (and my brother needed the whiskers). We were hunting GD for about 2 hours, we both got whiskers, and saw locations shouted for at least 3 more whiskers. Maybe it's the zone you're hunting in, but I would not go so far as to call it hyper rare (sic).

Maybe not so easy...

Hmm... looks easier on first inspection but if the combine isn't trivial at 168 tailoring skill it could take a LOT off effort to either get the skill up or gather the ingreadients for multiple attempts.
This is easier than five...

This is like 150 billion percent easier than quest five. The only part I will even need a friend for is the sirens (max resses on all .. bahaah)

Even with needing more people for that last part it will be far easier than getting 75 threads in velks and some shardwurm biles. The stuff besides the siren drops are EASY and COMMON, you can even buy some in thurg.
Trivial

Final combine is NOT trivial at 168 tailoring skill...

talk to the dain before this step? What do we say to the Dain?
BTW I completed the 5th shawl with a 102 skill. Just like the guy says... You have to be a master!!!

thread
# Jun 06 2001 at 5:26 PM Rating: Excellent
I failed the tailoring check for the thread with a skill of 131. Not that big a deal though, I was able to collect all the ingredients in about 4 1/2 hours.
Trivial for the combine?
# Jun 06 2001 at 10:51 AM Rating: Decent
Could the person who send in the spoiler or anyone who has done this step tell us what their tailoring skill is and if the combine was Trivial?

Thnx
