At the end of the previous quest, Loremaster Borannin told you to ask him how you could further advance your reputation with the coldain.

You say, 'How can I further advance my reputation with the coldain?'

Loremaster Borannin says '______! Thank Brell you're here. I was about to send one of my Lorekeepers looking for you. It appears that the information Tanik acquired is most perilous indeed. The Dain has called an emergency session of the council and I must attend. We don't have the luxury of waiting for an appropriate task to arise, you must advance as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I have neither the time, nor the components to fashion the next few shawls for you. Ask Rexx Frostweaver about the prayer shawl and follow his direction carefully.'

Rexx Frostweaver may be found in the Thurgadin Exchange, near the bank.

You say, 'Hail Rexx Frostweaver'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Hmmm, ye be one o them offlanders, don't ye? I've heard some strange tales o yer kind so don't be tryin' any funny business with me. I know the value of a platinum piece and I'll not get cheated by yer foreign coin.'

You say, 'I am here for the next prayer shawl.'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Gather five strands of crystalline silk thread and combine them in a sewing kit to make a crystalline silk fiber. Take this container and combine a glowing shardworm bile with three of the fibers to form a piece of glowing crystalline silk. Five pieces of glowing crystalline silk sewn to your fur-lined shawl will yield a beautiful silk shawl. Become a master in the art of tailoring before risking all you've worked for and be sure to let me inspect your work when it's complete.'

You receive a Glowing Bile Soaker.

Crystalline Silk Thread is an uncommon drop from various spiders in Velketor's Labyrinth. Glowing Worm Bile is a rare drop from various shardwurms in the Great Divide. You will need at least 75 threads and 5 biles, provided you don't fail at all. Combine 5 Crystalline Silk Threads in a sewing kit or loom to craft Crystalline Silk Fiber (trivial 51). Combine 3 Crystalline Silk Fibers and a Glowing Worm Bile in the Glowing Bile Soaker to craft a Glowing Crystalline Silk Piece (no-fail). Combine 5 Glowing Crystalline Silk Pieces with your Fur-Covered Coldain Prayer Shawl in a sewing kit or loom to craft a Silk Coldain Fur Shawl (trivial 115). If you fail the final combine, you will get your Fur-Covered Coldain Prayer Shawl back.

Give the Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl to Rexx Frostweaver.

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Splendid, ______, this is beautiful workmanship! As the Grand Historian may have mentioned, our esteemed Dain Frostreaver the fourth is making some important plans with his council. These plans will doubtlessly include you if the Dain deems you worthy.'

You say, 'Am I worthy?'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'To ensure your worthiness you must continue to refine your prayer shawl. Speak with my wife Betti regarding the embroidered shawl and listen carefully to her words. Hurry now, there seems to be a sense of urgency about.'

Tried the last combine at 113 and it's not trivial. Luckily I got a success in the combine as well as 1 pt of skill increase :)

Could someone please share which spiders in Velks drop the appropriate silks you need for quest 5.
I assume you can't use the ones from CC... right? Are the threads that drop in Velks no drop? and is there a recommended spot in Velks to collect these silks?

What do you get...

What do you get if and when you hand him the item so he can 'inspect your work' ?

Do I have to let him inspect it before I go on to the next step? If i dont, I'm not sure I want to run the risk of him inspecting it, knowing verants bugs ;)

Secondly, if I do let him inspect it, what do I get for the trouble? Is there a small reward on top of it?

Ok, I've seen several folks mention using crystalline swatches and patterns to increase their skill. Are there other ingredients needed for those? I have tried combining swatches and patterns in my deluxe kit, a large kit bought from Rexx, and the tanner's kit bought from Rexx. All said "can't combine in this container". Are the kiolas needed for crystalline? Right now my skill is maybe in the 30s. I know I'm a long way off, but seems like if I can farm silks in CC and buy cheap patterns, it would still be easier to raise it that way than going back over to Antonica and doing a bunch of kiolas.

You also need to add 1 silver thread to the usual pattern + swatches. These can be bought in thurgadin but i forget the name of the shop. For a complete guide to tailoring take a look at www.eqtraders.com They have all the info you'd need including what level they're trivial at. Gives you something to do will waiting on the silk threads. =P

To get your skill past 110, you should concentrate on making Wu's armor. This will take you all the way to 158.

Can anyone tell me what is a good way to increase tailoring beyond the 110ish range? I have checked a lot of sites and no one can tell me how to get my tailoring above that point. I don't want to fail when I make my shawl =)

again as i have posted elsewhere for pple ... to get to a skill of 131 the quickest cheapest , easiest way would be to farm silks in CC from spiders and make crystalline silk garments , masks will get u to 1o8 shoulders (2 swatches) to 118 i believe it was then tunics(3swatches)to 131 at 25pp a stack of silver thread u cant beat 1.2pp an attempt.. and the the silks r EASY to collect , two pple can easily get a few stacks of swatches in a couple hours which puts off the most annoying deed of making wu's , that way u only gotta do wu's for 27 points instead of the common route of quivers then wu's

What does Rexx mean by "be sure to let me inspect your work when it's complete"? I don't think I dare give him the shawl after it's done...won't you lose it?

No, they quests have different names. The first is called Giants toes or something, because requires toes. The best way to find all the quests is to search the items for 'coldain prayer shawl' and it will find all 7 shawls, then click on the link to the item, and from the item there is a link to the quests.

Just a quick note about skill increasing. Seems to me you can get to 125-ish doing silk armor using swatches made from silks in the Crystaline Caverns? Just looking for a little advice, as I've not done any tailoring yet, and am loathing this portion of the quest (although baking is proving to be quite useful!).

Thanks for tips

I finished #5 yesterday. The final combine was trivial at 134. I have heard it said that it is actually trivial at 122, but have been unable to confirm it.

As far as the biles go, make sure to turn your particle density to maximum. If you are already in GD when you set it, you will have to zone or re-log for it to properly take effect. Afterwards, you'll see the wurms glow with no problem at all. They ALL can drop the biles... though my best success was with the young ones near the GD Portal.

I just couldn't wait so I decided(fingers crossed) to try. And low and behold SUCCESS!!! My character stats were as follows: STR 87 STA 85 AGI 113 DEX 95 WIS 199 INT 87 CHA 74 with a tailoring skill at 95. Thanks for all the good posts and the idea for finding bile on glowing wurms is completely true. Got all mine in about 2 hours. Now to the next part...well see.

ive never seen that glowing... where do you find wurms that glow? in the caverns? outside? do you really see a glowing, or only if you know what to look for?
Got it!!

I was just successful making my silk prayer shawl, I did a double take when I saw it because this one now has CHA added to it! This is an excellent upgrade for me, being an enchanter. The shawl is now CHA/WIS/INT/svmag/svcold/AC +5. I didn't bother to look at the stats of this beforehand, because I just assumed it would be another point upgrade of the previous shawl's stats. It was a pleasant surprise.

My tailoring skill was 144, and the combine was TRIVIAL for me.

I got my skill to 124 by farming crystalline silks in crystal caverns. I believe you make collars to 102, masks to 108, caps to 115, and shoulders to 118. After that you have to use 2 swatches to get up to 125 with sleeves or gloves.

I then increased skill by making Wu's fighting armor.

The Wu's was a bit of a pain to make because of all the heady kiolas required. I decided to gather 100 silks, make 100 viscous manas (cost of 500pp for the pearls), and make 400 heady kiolas. This would give me 100 attempts to increase skill above 124. By the way, I got 300pp back by selling the Wu's to vendors. You could probably get even more back if you wanted to bother selling to players.

When making the Wu's I maxxed my INT at 137 with a WIS of 109 and a DEX of 197 (increased with the Boon of Garou spell). Under these conditions, I got a little better than 1 skill increase for every 5 attempts because I still have some ingredients left.

Wu's requires only 1 silk swatch up to a skill of 142. Make gorgets first up to 128, then mask or wristband to 135, then shoulder to 142. After that I made a few sleeves (requiring 2 swatches) and tunics (3 swatches) to give to newbies and got an additional 2 skill point increases.

I have been messing around with these No Drop threads in Velk's to see if it would raise my abismal Tailoring skill. They usually just rot since the avg group has no one working on this part of the shawl quest. I collected 25 silks and with my (39) tailoring skill, went to work. Results: Sucess on first try, increased skill to 40; Second, failed, increased skill to 41; Third Sucess; Forth Sucess, skill goes to 42; Fifth try failed again, no increase.

The only advantage I had during my attempts was a pretty massive Dex buff (186 ) I got from a shammy. This, we are told be the illustrious Niami at eqtraders, will have a positive effect on your chance of skill increases but not on sucessfully tailoring the item. Thus, it would appear you don't need a very high tailoring skill to complete this quest.

BTW, does anyone know of any tailoring recipes that use these Crystaline Silk Fibers that result or is it strickly to combine with the bile for the quest shawl? I tried matching a mask pattern with one and two of the CSF's and got the "will not combine" in this type of container message. Pretty much what I expected.
RE: Tailoring
# Sep 06 2001 at 4:34 PM Rating: Decent
You can't combine the fibers in a regular tailoring kit. You need to go to Rexx Frostweaver in Thurgadin to get the proper container.

Once you have this container, you can combine 3 fibers and 1 bile to get the piece of glowing crystalline silk that you are after.
Done?

Well..

Last night I got all of my 5 silks finished.. just I haven't bothered to do the combine yet. My tailoring skill is 116. It seems to me that it is pretty random whether someone succeeds or not, seeing as people with 97 skill can make the silk shawl, while those of 140+ can fail. It must be a matter of luck.

I also agree with those that mention the 'skill period'. I noticed the same. I get many many failures in raising skills, then suddenly I get a flurry of sucesses, then back to failures for a long while. I was trying to time the delay between each set of successes, but couldn't do it. I was too tired to sit there for another hour testing that theory. I may get back to it sometime. Still, like someone said, its probably tied to their random number generator. They really need to try to improve that, but thats not very likely.

I only have 2 sirens hairs, the rubbing alcohol, and the swordfish tooth to get before I have all the components needed to get shawl 7. Just that darn tailoring is taking forever. :( patience.. patience..

Info
# Aug 29 2001 at 11:25 PM Rating: Default
Just completed this shawl myself, here's some extra info on it.

I only saw glowing wurms spawn at night, and the only bile I got during the daw was from a spawn I saw during the night and followed while I meditated so I could take it ;)

I combined the shawl and was successful at a skill of 93, gained a point on the attempt so I'm at 94 now.

You can turn the shawl in to Rexx after making the shawl, he'll return it to you and says the following:

"Splendid, <name>, This is beautiful workmanship! As the Grand Historian may have mentioned, our esteemed Dain Frostreaver the fourth is making some important plans with his council. These plans will doubtlessly include you if the Dain deems you worthy."

I have no clue how anyone found out how this leads to the 6th shawl where you ask Betti Frostweaver "What embroidered prayer shawl?"

I have seen the wurm glow spoken of in earlier posts. Sure enough, glowing wurms drop the bile.
