At the end of the previous quest, Loremaster Borannin told you to ask him how you could further advance your reputation with the coldain.

You say, 'How can I further advance my reputation with the coldain?'

Loremaster Borannin says '______! Thank Brell you're here. I was about to send one of my Lorekeepers looking for you. It appears that the information Tanik acquired is most perilous indeed. The Dain has called an emergency session of the council and I must attend. We don't have the luxury of waiting for an appropriate task to arise, you must advance as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I have neither the time, nor the components to fashion the next few shawls for you. Ask Rexx Frostweaver about the prayer shawl and follow his direction carefully.'

Rexx Frostweaver may be found in the Thurgadin Exchange, near the bank.

You say, 'Hail Rexx Frostweaver'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Hmmm, ye be one o them offlanders, don't ye? I've heard some strange tales o yer kind so don't be tryin' any funny business with me. I know the value of a platinum piece and I'll not get cheated by yer foreign coin.'

You say, 'I am here for the next prayer shawl.'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Gather five strands of crystalline silk thread and combine them in a sewing kit to make a crystalline silk fiber. Take this container and combine a glowing shardworm bile with three of the fibers to form a piece of glowing crystalline silk. Five pieces of glowing crystalline silk sewn to your fur-lined shawl will yield a beautiful silk shawl. Become a master in the art of tailoring before risking all you've worked for and be sure to let me inspect your work when it's complete.'

You receive a Glowing Bile Soaker.

Crystalline Silk Thread is an uncommon drop from various spiders in Velketor's Labyrinth. Glowing Worm Bile is a rare drop from various shardwurms in the Great Divide. You will need at least 75 threads and 5 biles, provided you don't fail at all. Combine 5 Crystalline Silk Threads in a sewing kit or loom to craft Crystalline Silk Fiber (trivial 51). Combine 3 Crystalline Silk Fibers and a Glowing Worm Bile in the Glowing Bile Soaker to craft a Glowing Crystalline Silk Piece (no-fail). Combine 5 Glowing Crystalline Silk Pieces with your Fur-Covered Coldain Prayer Shawl in a sewing kit or loom to craft a Silk Coldain Fur Shawl (trivial 115). If you fail the final combine, you will get your Fur-Covered Coldain Prayer Shawl back.

Give the Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl to Rexx Frostweaver.

Rexx Frostweaver says 'Splendid, ______, this is beautiful workmanship! As the Grand Historian may have mentioned, our esteemed Dain Frostreaver the fourth is making some important plans with his council. These plans will doubtlessly include you if the Dain deems you worthy.'

You say, 'Am I worthy?'

Rexx Frostweaver says 'To ensure your worthiness you must continue to refine your prayer shawl. Speak with my wife Betti regarding the embroidered shawl and listen carefully to her words. Hurry now, there seems to be a sense of urgency about.'

At the end of this quest, when you first get the Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl, the write-up says that you should hand it to Rexx Frostweaver. Is it necessary to do this before you can proceed on to the Embroidered Prayer Shawl Quest?

I recived no Fraction hits or Experence for showing it. But it might be flag so that wife Betti gives you the items when you talk to her for the next Shawl.

[Tue Feb 01 00:30:09 2005] Rexx Frostweaver says 'Splendid, Fendaann, this is beautiful workmanship! As the Grand Historian may have mentioned, our esteemed Dain Frostreaver the fourth is making some important plans with his council. These plans will doubtlessly include you if the Dain deems you worthy.'
[Tue Feb 01 00:32:19 2005] You say, 'i am worthy'
[Tue Feb 01 00:32:19 2005] Rexx Frostweaver says 'To ensure your worthiness you must continue to refine your prayer shawl. Speak with my wife Betti regarding the embroidered shawl and listen carefully to her words. Hurry now, there seems to be a sense of urgency about.'

[Tue Feb 01 00:35:43 2005] You say, 'Hail, Betti Frostweaver'
[Tue Feb 01 00:35:44 2005] Betti Frostweaver says 'Well, hello there, dear, it sure gets cold here, doesn't it? Perhaps I can interest you in a sewing pattern to pass the time and keep you warm.'
[Tue Feb 01 00:36:32 2005] You say, 'I am here regarding the embroidered shawl'
[Tue Feb 01 00:36:32 2005] Betti Frostweaver says 'It will be an honor to assist you in fashioning an embroidered shawl. It is a very demanding product and I can see from the look in your eyes that you desire to burn your sewing kit in our furnace, but if you persevere, your efforts will be richly rewarded. When you are ready you must carefully weave a spool of sacred Coldain thread. Take the thread, this pattern, and the silk shawl and carefully embroider the pattern. The result will be most exquisite. Please show me if you manage to create one.'
[Tue Feb 01 00:38:11 2005] You say, 'what sacred coldain thread'
[Tue Feb 01 00:38:11 2005] Betti Frostweaver says 'Take a woven frost giant beard, two siren's hairs, two manticore manes and two Drakkel dire wolf whiskers, and combine them in a sewing kit. The resulting thread will enhance your shawl's power when embroidered in a special pattern.'
[Tue Feb 01 00:44:19 2005] You begin casting Gate.

P.S. The log does not log stuff you recive in a quests from the NPC, I know I got this but did not recive a log message.
from Betti:
You receive an Embroided Shawl Pattern.

Where it says this in the write up above: "Combine 3 Crystalline Silk Fibers and a Glowing Worm Bile in the Glowing Bile Soaker to craft a Glowing Crystalline Silk Piece (no-fail)." I don't think that's correct. My druid failed one of these combines and had to go hunt down another bile and more threads. However, this may be a bug, not sure. All I know is that when I did the combine I got NADA back and it said I lacked the skill and so was sitting with 4 Glowing Crystalline Silk Pieces instead of 5. /sigh

got a group of guildies and RL friends together and busted the eggs out rather quickly there for about 2 hours and got about a dozen eggs, also got good xp at 47 or so. The biles and the threads are turning out to be the bottle necks. No one is ever killing the wurms so theres never any rotting biles. And velks is impossible to solo in with all the trains....

Ok just did this last night. One attempt with a skill of 141, plus the 5% from the geerlok=148. Got message cannot raise your skills, but with a quest combine.../shrug. Anyway, I took the shawl back to Frostweaver and handed it in. I got no exp or faction. Checked and rechecked and even tried handing it in again. Nothing. Lorekeeper just hands it back as not needed. Frostweaver does not say to go talk to the Dain he just says somthing about the plans of the Dain. Just my 2cp so you know.

Silken Prayer Shawl (Shawl No. 5)

Quick Reference List:

Highest Skill Trivials
- Tailoring: 115?
Drops to Collect
- 75 Crystalline Threads
- 5 Glowing Wurm Bile (non-stackable)

Combine in tailoring kit: 5 Crystalline Silk Threads = 1 Crystalline Fiber (trivial 51)
Combine in Glowing Bile Soaker: 3 Crystalline Fibers + 1 Glowing Wurm Bile = Glowing Silk Piece (never fails)
Combine in tailoring kit: 5 Glowing Silk Pieces + Fur-lined Coldain Prayer Shawl = Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl (trivial 115?)

You say, "Hail Rexx Frostweaver" (within Thurgadin Exchange)

Rexx Frostweaver says "Hmmm, ye be one o them offlanders, don't ye? I've heard some strange tales o yer kind so don't be tryin' any funny business with me. I know the value of a platinum piece and I'll not get cheated by yer foreign coin."

You say, "I am here for the next prayer shawl."

Rexx Frostweaver says, "Gather five strands of crystalline silk thread and combine them in a sewing kit to make a crystalline silk fiber. Take this container and combine a glowing shardwurm bile with three of the fibers to form a piece of glowing crystalline silk. Five pieces of glowing crystalline silk sewn to your fur-lined shawl will yield a beautiful silk shawl. Become a master in the art of tailoring before risking all you've worked for and be sure to let me inspect your work when it's complete."

[Receive: Bile Soaker]

Biles: These are dropped by all kinds of shardwurms in Great Divide...young, guardian, elder, ancient...you name it. So, you could go out and just start randomly slaughtering them, in which case they will be a very rare drop. Or, you could take advantage of a fantastic feature and look for the wurms that glow! After all, this is *glowing* wurm bile that we seek, is it not? Unless you have another reason to kill wurms (needing spell drops or getting exp) then I recommend you wait until nightfall and look for the wurms that glow. You need to be careful, because if they are standing near the velium river, spikes of velium on the ground, campfires, or torches in the tunnels, then they may sometimes appear to glow when they have no bile, or may not seem to be glowing when they do have it. So I focused on the wurms outside of the tunnels. There are many of them that roam around to the south of the tunnels, and plenty from there around over to the dragon ring (the teleport spot). So I just ran around at night looking for glowing wurms. They are still pretty rare, I averaged one bile for every one or two (game) nights that I looked. If there are a lot of people looking at the same time, then you might find even less. If there are people out hunting them who are not looking for them, then you might find even more because they'll be respawning as they're killed. It all depends. If you have trouble finding them, kill a few here and there to refresh the population for yourself and others, and hopefully get some glowing ones to spawn.
Some people have reported that they absolutely cannot see the glow. Make sure that you have your dynamic lighting on ("/dynamiclights on"). You could test to be sure by heading back to Antonica and finding a wisp. If you see the wisp glow at night, then my guess would be that there isn't any reason why you wouldn't see the wurm glow too. If you are of a race gifted with good night vision, you can also try turning your gamma all the way down. This will make the world in general very dark and help any light sources stand out better. In the new UI go into your Options on the Window Selector, under the Display tab. The Gamma slider should be at the top right. In the old UI I'm not sure exactly where it is but it should be under your Options as well.
It is imperceptible during the day, however, so I highly recommend that you spare yourself the heartache of looking during the day and just do it at night. Either way, killing wurms will make new ones spawn and hopefully bring out some new ones with biles. So if you are having trouble finding any, try killing some and see if ones with biles don't turn up eventually. The picture below demonstrates what a glowing wurm should look like the one below, courtesy of Chenier. Thanks to Leafrat Pineheart and Chenier Sangeforet for their screenshots and for not letting it get forgotten!

Crystalline Threads: These drop off of crystalline spiders in Velketor's Labyrinth. As these spiders are right at the zone and all give experience all the way up to level 60, this is a very popular place for high levels. If you are under level 50 you will probably have a lot of trouble finding a group. However, with so many people hunting the spiders you may not have to do any killing yourself. I got most of my threads by going around to each group on the ground floor (not worth the danger of going up the slippery ramps to groups up above unless you're feeling really impatient or know the zone well) and asking them if they had anyone collecting threads. Those that had no use for them agreed to send me a tell when they got any, and I'd just scoot over and loot em.
There are several varieties of spiders in Velks: crystalline spiders, blizzard spiders, and shard spiders. The crystallines are the only ones that drop threads, and are the easiest of the three. Only a few rare spiders called crystalline hunters or blizzard hunters (I don't think there are shard hunters) can see invis. So, you are almost completely safe moving about the spider area with invis up, just watch for the hunters. Shortly after spawning the spiders also invis themselves, so make sure you have some form of see invis on if you want to know where they are. The ground level area is otherwise pretty straightforward, except for an icy patch just past the big mound of snow that is straight ahead from the bottom of the ramp at zone-in. Piece of cake.

"As these spiders are right at the zone and all give experience all the way up to level 60,"

I guess that article was originally written when the level cap was 60, but the spiders are actually still 50/50 light blue/dark blue at 62. In the time I took to get my 75 threads, I actually got 3 blues of XP at 62, which was a nice bonus... nothing like PoP XP, but it all helps. I was in a group, but the spiders were easy for the level 61 Necro pet to handle solo (pet tank, DoT, Shadowbond to heal), and the pet was often tanking an add while we killed another.

trivial in a quest container?
# Feb 17 2004 at 2:58 PM Rating: Default
i always thought that combines in a quest container couldn't fail! everyone is talking about 50s skill for the subcombines, and i can understand that, cuz they're done in a loom. but the final combine with the shawl takes place in the container you receive from the quest npc, correct? that being the case, shouldn't it be a worry free combine for the next shawl not requiring high skill or the combine to be trivial? just wondering... i'm still working on lower shawls, but researching the upcoming parts of the quest... any thoughts???

combine info straight from eqtraders.com

Combine in tailoring kit: 5 Crystalline Silk Threads = 1 Crystalline Fiber (trivial 51)
Combine in Glowing Bile Soaker: 3 Crystalline Fibers + 1 Glowing Wurm Bile = Glowing Silk Piece (never fails)
Combine in tailoring kit: 5 Glowing Silk Pieces + Fur-lined Coldain Prayer Shawl = Silk Coldain Prayer Shawl (trivial 115)

only the 2nd combine is done in the quest container. the first and last combines are done in tailoring kits.

It is 115 as most of the posts have it. Also, you could have a 255 trivial and would still have a 5% chance at failing (without using tradeskill AA's)...

That's just the way the mop flops.

Failed combines do not generate a "you can no longer gain skill" message. You just had bad luck with the combine, clearly the Random Number Generator didn't like you that day.

Me <--- Worry wart. Rexx says "be sure and let me inspect your work when it's complete."

Did the final combine successfully (skill = 132) and the shawl looks perfectly complete, but do I need to hand it to Rexx so he can inspect it? I would REALLY hate to hear him say: "thanks.... hmmm, I think."

Not gonna risk it after all that unless someone says I MUST do so.

The random number generator is a fickle, mean thing.

Some people go thru all 8 shawls, with never a major combine failure, others get stuck on trivial combines, over and over.

But, my advice, stick with it, the 8th shawl is awesome.

Hi all,

There are several trivials in the combines for the 5th shawl .... the highest being the creation of the crystalline silk piece. At 160 skill, i failed once, and didnt get trivial msg on the combines.

Got the trivial msg when I did the combine for the 5th shawl, so I guess the posted trivial of 115 is correct.

Now working on my 6th :)

Good luck to those working on the shawl.

Finally completed this shawl after procrastinating my way through it for a few weeks at least. I have to say I was nearly shaking while doing all those combines just waiting for one fail to put me back to where I started.

The silks were the most annoying part for me as during the time I was collecting them, being around lvl 49 I had a real hard time soloing in Velks. However, once I finally got a group of friends to go with me a few times we were able to collect all 75+ silks .. yay!

I didn't really have trouble with the biles at all. I went to just check the wurms out for a brief hour long stint and got 1 solo.. then went back this morning with an SK friend of mine and we slaughtered everything that moved in the caves for about an hour to collect 4 more. Note.. the Broodmother is a quest turn in NPC with a tonne of HP, heh... don't try to kill her, just a waste of time.

Now on to the 7th think I have most of the stuff already for that, except for one more siren hair, ugh I hate those things.

I found a way to see them glow, even in the day time. Turn your gamma down real low, like to 50%. Then it appears to be night time all the time. If you don;t know how to do this, hit Alt O, then the display tab, then move your gamma scale to 50%, if you are like me it is probably up aroun 100% to give you maximum visibility for your human toons in caves. They light up like a Christmas tree, when you do this. I still kill them all in the hopes to get glowing ones to spawn, but at least I know ahead of time what its going to drop.

#chagi, Posted: Sep 07 2003 at 12:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If you peeps would read the patch messages and try making a new char you would know what stats help you with what. When you make a new char and click on, say dex, it tells you EXACTLY what dex does for you. It helps in Fletching and of course your combat type procs, crits and etc. Strength helps with smithing. What is also said is that if say your a chanter and your str is low then its the higher of the 2, str or int. They changed this so long ago I cant even remember the patch. This was done im sure in part because warriors dont tend to have the chance at getting 300+ wis/int like casters do and most casters lack 300+ str. Well all that arent shammy anyways. gotta love the avatar spells. Not tryin to jump up anyones back door just figured Id toss in some hard facts about what does what. So if your interested dont read the boards to find out what stats you need, just make a new char and click on the diff stats... And FYI wis/int/str/dex etc etc etc dont help you succede in a combine, they only help you raise skill faster. Also in a recient patch they improved the chances for you to succeed at a combine thats already trivial which should help out alot. As far as I know if its trivial then its trivial, I dont think combines can get MORE trivial. But hey, like the guy said... geerlok = 50-100pp... Ill have one in my hand.

Elder and Young shard wurms are only one who drop bile... and btw if their tummies glow DEF's can't see it with our sensitive daylight vision.

Also a total of 75 no drop silks from velks also

Again confirming the bile appears to drop only off the young and the elder wurms. Was able to single pull elders from the north end of the tunnel without adds. Youngs more common in the area south of the tunnels but adds are highly probable.

The better your vision, the harder it IS to see the glowing ones, UNLESS its night OR you turn your gamma correction way down. Then the glowing wurms are easy to spot.

I got lucky 3 times with these.. Didnt have my gama turned down. Instead of hunting the wurms, I chose to pull a few each time I was near and doing something else. Each time it was daylight, and each time the first wurm I hit dropped a bile (lucky me but my dice throwing sucks!). Anyway, not a rare item, though the other two proved more difficult to get. Once I knew about the gamma trick, was easy to spot (only needed during daylight).

Also note that this trick can work on other mobs too, e.g. the griffons in JP that drop the Eye of the Griffon for instance. Anyone know of a complete list of those that do?

If you're trying to say that Dark Elves cannot see the glow on the wurms with the bile, you are sadly mistaken my friend. I have a 51 necro alt (dark elf of course) and I got my last three biles tonight, each off of the glowing wurms, which I was able to see from extremely far away.
The glow is obvious to any race/class combo if you know what you are looking for.

2 combine 3xFIBER+bile in Container from Rexx this gives SILK

3 combine 5xSILK+4th shawl in Sewing kit

After hunting excessively for biles I can tell that only ELDER and YOUNG Shardwurms drop the biles. I killed wurms in the cave for two days, got all in all 10 biles and all off ELDER. NONE biles whatsoever from ancient, guardian, crystalline, so dont bother killing those if you're just after biles. Drops off young shardwurms are confirmed as well, so you might skip the cave altogether.

I too have started hunting for the bile drops. I can also confirm that they do drop from young ones and that the ground does glow beneath the ones that have them. I have one so far and it dropped at loc neg6328 / neg 181 as it was crossing the river.
After also reading plenty of info on this from numerous sites i've come to the conclusion that 1- the bile is a very uncommon drop 2-your wasting your time sitting on this spawn.
The stradegy im using so far is i zone in and head to previous stated loc.........there r alot of young one in this area. then i strat killing them and hope to spot one glowing. I did this and got one within 30 minutes.
I zone out and try at another time.
I dont know if this is the best way, but so far im satisfied. I use the time not hunting for these grouping and raising tailoring skill.
I will keep track of the drops on my next four and will be keeping a diary of it here so look forward to more posts from or leave me a question and i will try and help........and also advice if someone else has some for me.

I think that Grelok is actually a reference to a GEERLOK, which is a skill modifying device for tradeskills. For example, there is a geerlok hammer for smithing, that increases your effective skill by 5% in blacksmithing. Therefore, if you have a 200 skill smith, with a geerlok, his chance of making an item would be the same as a 210 skill smith without a geerlok.

There is a geerlok for each tradeskill. They all modify skill 5%, for the appropriate tradeskill.

First off, it's important to remember that if you have a low tailoring skill, then you should take caution to just pressing that combine button.

I have read a lot of post that claim what is trivial and what is not, that's all good and such, but if you don't have at least 140 Tailoring with a %5 geerlok in hand (140 skill + 7 from geerlok) then you are just asking for trouble.

People have argued what is required to increase the chances of success on the tailoring trade skill, such as high wisdom for priest class and intelligence for caster class or if charisma is helpful and such. From experience, I cannot determine the specific modifiers used when hitting the dreaded combine button, but what I can say from personal experience is, get KEI and a CHA buff from your local Enchanter, secondly, get a geerlok to add the %5 to the skill and make sure to do this in a lag free zone, hitting the combine button in the Bazaar is like rolling dice in the snow. Why you ask? Why not is my reply! You should be wise or intelligent when making tailoring items, you should have a charismatic personality as well, this helps you with karma, do you believe in karma? And the geerlok adds to your skill cause it does, never shake off a 5% increase in skill, because when you fail you will say, *****, I bet it would not have failed if my skill was just a couple points higher”

OK, so the 5th Shawl.

First you must have the ability to fight in Velks in Upper Spiders if you play on Brell, other servers seem to refer to that camp as TS, I am assuming that's Top Spiders?
With this camp you get the chance as the Frenzy and Crystal Eyes for your troubles. Should take you 2 hours to get 80 ( 4 stacks of 20 )if you are not sharing the threads with anyone. Suggestion: always get more than you need as failures are part of this quest so get used to it.

The Bile, what a wonderful substance, used in real life to break down fats and such in the digestion process, but it's more like passing a stone on getting them to drop! Be patient, kill them all and let Karana sort them out! Dynamic lightening is the ticket with this one. If you are not familiar with it, then while in game, type /help and then go from there or read the manual in your EverQuest directory on your computer where you installed the game. Other than that, just kill Wurms, doesn't matter which ones you kill as you will never get bile unless kill them all. If you got 50 wurms in the zone and none are glowing, which indicates they have the bile, then what do you do? Wait until they despawn and respawn with a glowing one? No, you just waste them like any other mob cause they are place holders (ph's) So you dont' think they are place holders? Then what are they? I will tell you what they are, they are mobs standing in the way of spawning a mob with my bile **** it!

Enjoy this part of the shawl quest, it's not as bad as chasing after Snow Griffins and praying an egg drops.

Good Luck and I shall see you on the 6th Shawl!

ALL trade skills as far as whether you advance and whether you suceed are based a GREAT deal upon int... not just tailoring... your post was very very informative and I appreciate it being there to read.

There are a number of good places to find info on how the various tradeskills work (eqtraders.com is my favorite). For tailoring there are a couple of things to consider.

1) Whether or not you succeed in creating an item is based entirely on your skill level in the tradeskill for that item. If you int and wis are both 60, and your tailoring skill is 150, you have the same chance of getting a successful combine as someone whoes skill is also 150 but whoes int is 255.

2) Whether or not you increase your skill level per combine attempt is based on the higher of your wis or int. In the above example the person with the int of 255 would have a higher chance of skill level increase than the person whoes int/wis is 60. (Evidently, Smithing takes the higher of int/wis/str).

So, when your are attempting to raise your skill, make sure you have the highest possible int or wis (depending on class, one will be most likely easier to raise). When attempting the actual combine, it doesnt matter, just make sure your tradeskill is above the trivial for that item.

I had failed the 5th shawl final combine TWO times, at 115 (Wrong trivials at eqtraders), and I was extremely nervous on my 3rd try.

I raised my skill from 121 to 146, with the geerlok in hand, I held my breath and hit the button - And I got the 5th shawl! =)

As the post below and mine confirmed, the trivial is definately below 146 with the geerlok
RE: Trivial
# Jul 02 2003 at 1:07 PM Rating: Decent
the trivials posted are correct, but you should have at least 15 more skill points than the trivial in order to get a decent (95%) success rate. "Trivial" just means you no longer gain xp from the combine.

Tailoring can be one of the most time consuming tradeskills to master. This is mainly because you have to farm most of the ingredients. They can often be bought in the bazaar, but that can get expensive. I have found a few recipes which require storebought supplies. All combines can be done in a large tailoring kit, except for the ones which have more than 8 ingredients. These have to be combined in a 10-slot loom which can be found in most major cities. Here's how I got to skill 158:

Woven Mandrake Roots - Mandrake root x 2 Trivial 66

Picnic Basket - Woven mandrake root, steel boning Trivial 76

Crystalline Silk Armor - Crystalline silk swatches, pattern, silver thread
Mantle - 1 swatch Trivial 118
Sleeves - 2 swatches Trivial 124
Tunic - 3 swatches Trivial 131

Wu's Fighting Armor - Silk Swatches, Vial of Viscous Mana, Heady Kiola x 4, pattern
Mantle - 1 swatch Trivial 144
Sleeves - 2 swatches Trivial 151
Tunic - 3 swatches Trivial 158

Steel boning is made with smithing:
Steel Boning - small brick of ore, file, water Trivial 37

Heady Kiola's are made with brewing:
Heady Kiola - Packet of Kiola Sap x 2, water, bottle Trivial 46

Vial of Viscous Mana is summoned by a lvl 12 enchanter spell: Thicken Mana
It requires 2 components: a poison vial, and a pearl for each vial.

Silks swatches are made by sewing 2 of that type of silk together, this doesn't work with spiderling silk though.
The crystalline silks are found on spiders in Crystal Caverns, which can drop up to 4 at a time.
The best place I've found for farming regular silks is from Krag Spiders in North Karana. They spawn on the hill near the ramp to the zoneline with Highpass Hold.

Good luck!

Woven mandrakes to 66 is the easiest to start with, but the best way to get to 115 is with Tailored Quivers. One high quality cat pelt and one quiver pattern. After that, you can start on the crystalline silk. If you run out of swatches, a more expensive alternative is to make folded medicine bags to 136. One high quality bear pelt and one silver ribbon, sold for 15pp a piece in the lighthouse in Gunthak.

You can also combine the 10-item... items... in a Deluxe Sewing Kit. These are rare and priced high, but if you're lucky, you will have bought them when Verant upgraded kits to 10-slot, then downgraded the shopkeepers back to 8-slot, while keeping all the 10-slots in existance.

10-slot, 3.5 weight, Giant Items.

There is a way to raise tailoring without having to make studs, bonings, viscous mana, etc. I frankly don't want to waste time make other items first.

Greyhopper hide armor will take you up to 88 or so and they are relatively easy to farm in Marus Seru. I think that's easier than making picnic baskets.

If you are an INT caster class you might want to consider making the swatches from the spell research components. For example, Tears of Prexus, a quill, and a parchment make a Tear Scribe Swatch which trivials around 132, and even if you buy off a vendor you can sell the swatch back for more than cost. The new spell research components will get you even higher, though you might want to use those for spell research (or sell them). The swatches are used to make some nice robes. So instead of just selling those unused pages, runes, and words to a vendor, combine them to raise tailoring and sell for even more profit. :)

If you are a foraging class you should save all the stuff that makes the dyes that are used to make ribbons. These ribbons are also used with the above swatches to make robes (the final combine on the robes are race specific, but the ribbons and swatches are not).

The dyes items are: ashweed, bamboo shoot, honey berry, cauldron prawns, cursed clover of viesar, plant shoot, lichenclover, maneater bud, seahorse roe, plains roots, steamfont spring water, & sylvan berries. Combine one of these with a flask of water in brew barrel (brewing triv 127). Not good at brewing - easy to raise - just combine fishing grubs and flask of water which is triv at 122 (it's slow, and boring - but real cheap to buy grubs off fishing vendors).

Making ribbons will take you up around 187. Even if you do decide to make Wu's, the ribbons will get you above that. But if you can't forage you might find it expensive trying to buy enough stuff for dyes. On the other hand, if you have the patience to sit around some newbie zones and offer to buy the foraged stuff in return for a little coin and/or buffs, you can help out a newbie at the same time.

With the ribbons and swatches appropriate to your race you can make robes all the way up to 250 if you want. The final robes are for the most part very nice (the DE-made Robe of Abrogation has a 2HP/tick regen for example). Of course, finding those high level spell components isn't easy :)
