Gapeers Johhanis is located at -240, -412 in the cleric guild in Rivervale.

    You say, 'Hail, Gapeers Johhanis'

Gapeers Johhanis jumps at your voice, he's obviously very focused on a set of beakers on the table. They seem to be holding samples of rotted flesh. Gapeers says, 'Oh my heart! You could have stopped it! Please be careful when entering these chambers. It would be unfortunate if I had dropped and broken these [specimens].'

    You say, 'What specimens?'

Gapeers Johhanis turns to explain the specimens when he accidentally knocks over the beakers. He sucks in a short breath as the beakers crash to the ground, ruining the samples. As Gapeers's skin loses color he says, 'OH NO!! No, not my specimens!! Now what am I to do?! I needed those badly! You did this! You [owe] me now!'

    You say, 'Owe What?'

Gapeers Johhanis says 'You bet you do! You big clumsy Half Elf! These were the remains of unfortunates who were drowned. Not only were they drowned but their bodies clung to life and refused to settle. Products of the horrendous curse of unlife. I'll need you to find three [special samples] of drowned and cursed flesh.'

    You say, 'What special samples?'

Gapeers Johhanis's eyes widen as he realizes you actually might intend to help him. His voice becomes raspy with desperation as he says, 'Oh! Wonderful....uuhhmmm.... well ....You'll need to find undead creatures found in the waters of three different climates. One from a tropical ocean. One from the muddy and slow moving river of a jungle. And one from the stagnate and polluted water of a city's sewer, Freeport would be ideal. Will you really [do this for me]?'

You say, 'I will do this for you.'

Gapeers Johhanis says 'Oh thank goodness! Thank you so much, ______! Those old specimens were much to ancient anyway, fresh ones will help in my mission to heal those who were unfortunate enough to drown and become cursed. If you bring back the three samples I have a little something you might like. Although it will only fit and be of use to one who heals as a profession and is small of stature like myself. Good luck!'

In Erud's Crossing kill a zombie sailor.

In Feerrott kill a drowned caravan guard or a Greenblood Zombie.
--You have looted a Swollen Flesh.--

In Freeport Sewers kill a drowned citizen.

Hand Gapeers Johhanis the 3 Flesh.

Gapeers Johhanis says 'Oh....well.....This is nice, but I'll need the swollen, waterlogged, and algae covered flesh before I can reward you.'
Gapeers Johhanis says 'Oh....well.....This is nice, but I'll need the swollen, waterlogged, and algae covered flesh before I can reward you.'

Gapeers Johhanis cheers as you hand him the samples of zombie flesh. He says, 'You have them! Excellent! Thank you very much, ______! Now I have much work to do so shoo before you break something else. Oh and here is your reward. It's an anklet that all our acolytes wear. Not only is it functional, but we can show off our beautiful foot hairs at the same time. Us halflings are pretty smart really.'

I have been trying to get the waterlogged flesh from the "a drowned citiezen" for 5 levels and over 40 kills, 25 of them today, with no luck. Its possible that this item was lost in the revamp of the freeport sewers as part of PoR or that the problem is just on the Combine progression server. Anyone done this quest successfully on either progression server?

I did this and my druid was around 16...here's how...(tounge firmly in cheek)...

First I had my level 24 monk travel through the Freeport sewers and kill as many drowned civies as needed until flesh drops. Place this in shared bank account...

Next I had my level 10 Ogre shadowknight step outside Ogguk and cast Sense the Dead near the river. Locate and kill Greenblood Zombie, get flesh. Place this in common bank slot...

Finally had my level 16 Halfling druid go to Erud's Crossing, find the underwater ship. Took several kills but got the flesh. Gated back to Rivervale and got the other fleshes from the bank.

Yodelled to Gapeers and he forked over the trinket. My druid is now 25 and still wears the thing (sentimental). Looking for the upgrade...So why do we Halflings always get the SHORT end of the stick? Tunarian elves and even (gasp) Trolls can go for the Warden and Regent symbols for their respective faiths. SUUURE, they get a nice bauble with WIS and a right-clicky effect. What to Halflings get? How about the Prefect of the Plains Symbol:

Karana Prefect of the Plains Symbol

    easy as lev29 druid
    # Mar 19 2003 at 4:07 PM Rating: Decent
I finished this quest as a 29druid in less than 1 hour. The dangerous part is with the drown citizens in freeport, I bind at the entrance and then just jumped into the water with endure breath and found being attacked by 4 drowned citizens. I was able to kill 3 of them before escape by gate, then came back and finished the last one and a new pop. Was able to get 2 skins. With all the buffs, especially dmg buffs, I should be able to kill all 4 at once without much problem.

If you are in no hurry, as a druid I think it is much better to do this at lev29, it takes much less time and effort with port and enhanced fighting abilities and tracking.

    # Sep 15 2002 at 2:31 PM Rating: Decent
Okay... here's how I went about doing this quest with my druid, who at the time was level 24.

I decided to start with the Greenblood Zombie, who I figured would be the hardest because of Bouncer Hurd walking around. To my surprise, Hurd and the rest of the ogres in the zone were indifferent in Wolf Form... thus all I had to worry about was searching for the zombie itself. I tracked for about a half hour before finding it in the river. After I pulled it to land, Hurd came by and KSed me... thus I had to search for another ten or so minutes before finding it in the river again. This time around I kept the fight underwater and successfully killed it with a few nukes, though following it when it ran away was a pain, as my Swimming skill wasn't that high at the time. I looted the Swollen Flesh and moved on to...

...Freeport, which I then figured would be the hardest as I've heard very foul things about the drowned citizens. After about thirty minutes of thinking of how to go about this, I cast Levitate and floated over the pool to grab the aggro of the citizens, then carefully ran up to the surface with them in tow. After breaking the spawn, I found I could pull about one or two at a time, and didn't pull to the surface again. Instead, I rooted the citizens, cast Creeping Crud, and occasionally nuked them. It took about 9 or 10 kills before the Waterlogged Flesh dropped, and I got about two bronze weapons in the process.

Erud's Crossing and the zombie sailors were next. I've seen about ten of these guys at a time underwater, so I figured this to be risky. As it turns out, I got very lucky on this exchange. I levitated over the area where the sunken ship was and managed to pull only one zombie to the surface, which dropped the Algae Covered Flesh needed. I promptly ran off to Rivervale to finish the quest.

I got all the items piece of cake... then I knew I had to build my faction before turning in my skins. So I spent 60pp on bandages and spent an hour turning them in. If you don't have good faction with Johhanis don't waste your time or money doing this. It causes every citizen EXCEPT the cleric guild to be amiable. I was hoping someone could shed some light on the faction subject with me=)

You need to kill a few of the Swamp Alligators to spawn the Greenblood Zombies.

Well - I was lucky and had a friend who was farming wolf pelts & they gave me 2 stacks of ruined & a stack of blacks to get my faction up (I did the supplies quest 20 times - still indifferent but it worked)
I had the same problem as everyone else - that damned Greenblood
1st time I saw him was at the river fork, just after I killed a Pirhana, no skin but aggroed a bouncer - gate.
2nd time I saw him, was just a glimpse, after killing a couple of gators & Pirhana's, again at the fork in the river - aggroed bouncer - died
3rd time I saw him was at the South edge of the zone in the river on East fork, Tae Ew bank. Dropped like a sack of spuds & gave me my Skin. It's a long run to Rivervale but it was worth it.

I hate to break this to those Gnomes and Dwarves out there that would love this item, but the Merchant is one of those that won't talk to anybody but there own race.

I did this quest with my Halfling Druid, worked like a charm. Thought I could use this nice Anklet on my Dwarf Cleric, got all the flesh, went to give it to the guy and he say "I won't do anything to help you".

Took the stuff I gave him and I swear he grined at me!

Just thought I should mention it as there doesn't seem to be a way of bringing up the faction for this guy. :(

Well, I hate to break it to YOU, but Gnome Clerics of Bristlebane start out Amiable to the Rivervale Cleric's guild and can do this quest without doing any additional faction work. Your problem isn't one of race - it is one of religion.

I did this quest late.. @ 34 he he but love the anklet. With this and my othmir cap I look like a newb.

My general advice is this: The flesh looks like zombies skin but isnt stackable.

So my advice for drowned citizens is .. of course.. Enduring breath, whatever skin you have plus all damage shields. Then after you've killed all four.. ( you'll have to ) gate out. I had to kill 12 of them to get the flesh ( 3 spawns )

I found the greenblood zombie on track wandering no where near the spot where he supposedly spawns. I had to kill three before I got the flesh. ( tried once nothing... came back and got it )

The zombie sailors have a pretty far aggro range so expect to fight at least two .. probably three at once. I had two kill 2 spawns to get the flesh and they also dropped a blurred map.

Actually in all cases ( cept maybe the greenblood..) expect to fight all of them at once.. so bring a friend or root first.
This is a very nice quest IMHO

    Good luck !

I did this quest in about 2 hours with my 19 druid. Erud zombies were easy and the skin dropped on the second kill. The drowned citizens jumped me when I fell into the cistern but I took out 3 before I died. Luckily I bound just outside the cistern and jumped right back in to kill the other two. Two skins dropped off the citizens. The Greenblood took the longest. When I entered the zone I /ooc to ask if anyone had a Greenblood on tracking and got a reply right away. The druid killed the Greenblood and gave me a loc unfortunetly I was aggroed by a bouncer before I could get to the corpse. After an hour cruising the river banks I sat down agains the west wall on the island with all the Tae lizzies when the Greenblood walks up to me and starts hittin. I think they greenbloods pop on the Tae island. Walfredo Wheredidyago, Tribunal.
    How I go it all..
    # Apr 21 2002 at 1:36 AM Rating: Default
I never killed one of them sailor zombie guys. I took a boat to the island and bought the flesh for about 2 pp from a vendor.

Then I took off for the Greenblood zombies in Feroot. After quite a time I got frustrated trying to find one and got killed by Bouncer Hurd on the river bank. (west side) so I recovered my corpse and swam to the east side of the bank and turned myself into a tree RIGHT where the main river forks. I sat there thinking (as a tree) for awhile and one of them there Zombies just attacked me (undead see though the illusion). Killed it lickity split and took it's skin.

Then for the drowned citizens in Freeport. The original plan was to cast SoW on myself, wake the citizens, snare 'em 1 at a time and leading the last one unsnared far enough away so the snared ones wouldn't bother following. What actually happened is I created a train, accidently lead them to another char (or, uh, 2) and they aggro'd that char, and I drew one away from the train with a fireblast and ignite and got the skin. The person they aggro'd on also killed the other 2 or 3 so I don't feel horrible about the train. It was an accident and NOT what I planned- even tried steering the train around people, but apparently they got a large argo radius. Sorry 'bout that people on FV.

I camped the drowned citizens for 6 hours on 10th April 2002 with my 14th level untwinked cleric. I killed each and every last one round the clock and all i got was rusty/bronze weapons and lots of zombie skin. If someone since last patch has managed to loot the flash from these lil' beggars, i'd be most appreciative.

Btw: All u who say you cannot kill them at these levels... use your head. its actually very easy.

I waited until I was lvl 19 before doing this quest and was able to complete the quest in a little over 4 hours. Being able to port to nearby zones saved me a ton of travel time.

It seemed to take forever to get a Zombie sailor to drop the algae covered skin (15 plus sailors killed), almost to the point of writting the quest off as broken. Be patient in Erud's Crossing.

I got lucky in the Feerot, I tracked a greenblood zombie and killed the first one I saw, It had the skin I needed.

The drowned citizens in WFP presented a problem with multiple adds. There are normally 2 or 3 citizens in the 'tank', and they seem to have different aggro ranges. I hunted them from the North exit ramp and fought them on the ramp itself after pulling them out of the 'tank'. I had to kill over twenty of them to finally get my skin... and there was much rejoicing!

    Good luck with this one.

Okay, been trying to get this done for awhile now--keep bugging GMs about it--STILL broke. No ETA of Fi time yet--Friend told GM that it was brole and if he had killed a sailor he woulda gotten the skin--GM gave him a skin--he got Anklet--Hasn't worked for me yet though. GL and post if it starts working although I am almost to UBBER status now will still complete quest just to say I did it.!!
