After finishing the shackle of bronze quest, Master Rinmark asks you to help him rescue a student of his.

You say, 'Where is your student?'

an Iksar master hands you what appears to be the base of a key. 'This was delivered to me by a dying student. He collapsed just after handing it to me. He was accompanying a student of mine named Veltar. They were questing for the legendary Whistling Fists. The key is made of a metal I have never felt or heard of. Find him.'

You receive Part of a Large Key (identifies as "Base of Coppernickel Key"), a 2-slot container.

Then you need to find Veltar. Veltar ("an iksar slave") can be found in Frontier Mountains (cave "B" on EQAtlas map.

You say, 'Hail, an Iksar slave'

an Iksar slave seems to have lost all hope. He sadly looks to the ground. His shackles are different than the others you see in this cell. One is definitely steel and not of goblin design. The other is made of an unfamiliar metal.

You say, 'Are you Veltar?'

an Iksar slave 's soiled face shines with a glint of hope. 'You know my name? Who has [sent] you to find me?'

You say, 'Master Rinmark sent me'

an Iksar slave says 'Then word has gotten to him!! If you be a monk of the third rung I will accept your aid. You must find the [coppernickel key]. It is required to release me from this goblin shackle. I have no reward to offer other than the shackle of steel. Give me both your shackles of the third rung along with the key and I shall reward you the first shackle of the fourth rung.'

You say, 'Where is the coppernickel key?'

an Iksar slave says 'The key is split into three parts. Part one is the base and must be combined with the two remainder pieces. One piece is in here and the other was lost. I overheard the goblins chattering and recognized the goblin phrase, 'lair of flying mouths'!! As for the base, I do not know.'

You now need to collect and combine the three pieces of the coppernickel key.

1. You already have the base, which you received from Master Rinmark.

2. The second piece is "A Copper Key". It identifies as "A Copper Nickel Key |..". It's dropped by the goblin interrogator in the same cave as the iksar slave. On TLP servers, he spawns in Droga in the jail area.

3. The "lair of flying mouths" is a reference to Dalnir. "A Nickel Key" is dropped there by a coerced penkeeper on the third level. It identifies as "A CopperNickel Key ..|".

Combine the nickel and copper keys inside the base. This results in "A Coppernickel Key". Give Veltar the coppernickel key, and your bronze and copper shackles.

an Iksar slave says 'I made a pact to reward the shackle of steel to one who could deliver the coppernickel key and the shackles of copper and bronze.'
an Iksar slave says 'I made a pact to reward the shackle of steel to one who could deliver the coppernickel key and the shackles of copper and bronze.'
an Iksar slave hands you a shackle and removes the coppernickel shackle so he may flee. He places your shackles on his wrists and darts into the darkness.
You gain experience!!

Found interrogator in NW cave on live server (emarr)

There is talk in this thread about the interrogator only spawning in the iksar slave cave on live servers, but I found him (her?) today in the NW cave on Povar (a live server).

Listed above, it says:

3. The "lair of flying mouths" is a reference to Dalnir. "A Nickel Key" is dropped there by a goblin penkeeper on the third level. It identifies as "A CopperNickel Key ..|".

This is incorrect. The name of the mob who drops the nickel key is "a coerced penkeeper", not "a goblin penkeeper".

There's a bit of misinformation here. Perhaps it's just outdated.

Currently, the Goblin Penkeeper spawns in the Southeast area with the Iksar Slave. The Goblin Interrogator spawns in the Northwest section of the cave.

What server type are you playing on?

A fair number of Kunark era quest NPC get moved "back" to original spawn locations until some revamps come into play (i.e., Droga & Nurga come to mind). The database reflects the live servers... but when we have a known "TLP in _____ era" post we can add notes (usually best on the NPC wiki entry).

I'm on Luclin server. Not a TLP.

To be clear, I was saying that some of the comments are incorrect. The coerced penkeeper is indeed in Dalnir still, as the guide states. I happened upon him today.

This quest line is from the the Old mines before the revamp. Since moving them to the caves as a new spawn spot, they are no longer "in a cell across and to the left of the jail entrance'.

To find them, enter the mine shaft and follow it down to the last room. The slaves and mobs all spawn in the same cavern room. Basically there is anywhere from 4 to 6 mobs in it, so plan accordingly. As a 52 monk, I still got swarmed. FD is your friend.

Been doing this quest with my monk and here's some things I've found:

1) Nickle Key - can confirm that is does pop up in both locations shown in EQ Atlas (4 and 9) though I've found 9 to be easier to camp. only 3 mobs at most to worry about. the one in the room (PH for the gob) and the 2 who wander close. Took a long time before the gob popped up. was beginning to wonder if they moved his spawn points.

2) Copper Key - for the old farts (like me) who are coming back to the game, they moved it out of Droga (thank goodness) and into Burynai Mine #2 (on EQ Atlas map). There was one mob by where gob you need pops who is a bit of a pain. light blue at 58 and re-spawns very quickly. get a higher level player to pull it out of the room for you if possible. better yet, have a high level friend kill and loot the key for you (droppable)

3) An Iksar Slave - Make sure you give the items to the right one. A Crazed Iksar Slave is a PH and will attack you. An Enslaved Iksar is also there. It was amiable to me and was dressed in chain armor....guessing it was either an SK or shammy type mob.

hope that helps...

Phrases
# Mar 05 2005 at 10:35 PM Rating: Default
I had a LOT of trouble getting the keyword for this quest until I found out it is NOT who or what, it is "Where".

"Where is your student?" was the only phrase I got a response too. If that doesn't work for some reason, I didn't have him targeted, which didn't help for any of the other phrases.

Hope this helps.

Shackle of Steel
# Sep 06 2003 at 7:35 PM Rating: Decent
WOOT. Got the Shackle of Steel today with my Iksar Monkey (lvl 38) with the help of my druid friend 54 to bless me with heals.

All the info was here, but like many peeps, I didn't read ALL the posts before heading out to get the shackle.

Long story short, Nickle Key in Dalnir, Copper Key in Frontier Mountains... the part that I missed was about the Iksar Slave. You need the one that spawns from the Crazed Iksar slave (no faction hit)... if he doesn't respond when you say "Rinmark sent me".. then he's not the one.

G'luck ya'll.

BTW, I've heard alot of peeps say that the shackle quests aren't worth it, or the items aren't that great.... they are right.. UNLESS you intend to go all the way and get hte Shackle of Tymmonium (sp?)... and they are DEFINITELY worth it if you get your Whistling Fists.

Ok it is true you must complete this in FM now in the cave marked B on the eqatlas.com site, take the first left as you come in and you should find the Goblin interrogator(watch out if soloing the Goblin traitor spawns about every 5 min), then go to the farthest back part and you will find the Iksar slaves make sure it is the right one before you turn your items in by saying the phrase "master rinmark sent me" I think that is it.

Who do you do the turn in to now? i have tried the Iksar slave in the right tunnel and said he doesn't have a need for the item and he doesn't work on the scripting either, stayed here for awhile and no other slaves poped so i dunno
question?

Is this quest bugged since the droga/nurga revamp?
I handed in the box to rinmark and he shrugged, gave me the shackle, but no script on the student or shackle of steel.

Stormhammer today (after changes to temple)

He finally gave me the student quest after I asked: Where is the student?

"This was delivered to me by a dying student. He collapsed just after handing it to me. He was accompanying a student of mine named Veltar. They were questing for the legendary Whistling Fists. The key is made of a metal I have never felt or heard of. Find him."

Right Iksar Slave
# Jun 06 2003 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
Just completed my Steel Shackle quest with the help of a 56 mage friend. Getting down to the jail in Droga with her was cake thanks to call of the hero :). Just a word of advice... there are several versions of the "iksar slave" that spawn. The right one is the one that mentions the shackles etc. Other versions will not talk to you when you hail them, fortunately the slaves seem to spontaneously despawn and repop every 10 min or so. I didnt keep track of the exact time sorry.

Actually it has nothing to do with your shackles. "What" isn't the key word when asking about the student, "where" is.

Yes, shrink has to be the best way to go. I would also reccomend getting a couple invis potions-
In Dalnir, you'll need one to escape past the head Kly. At 49 I was able to camp the penkeeper without much difficulty, just make sure to be full HP and have mend up if you have to take on a caster.
The interrogator is a necro... I knew I couldnt solo him even though he was a light blue because of that fact once I got down there. I got a 51 bard from my guild to help- Go down invised if you dont want to be harm touched about 5 times on the way. If invis drops, you will likely get about 4 aggros- We shurnk about halfway down and jumped through the bars, and killed the interrigator. His dots can kill you easy, I was down to one bulb and falling, with regen going before both fell. Then its just turning them in and running out.

You can just bypass all the gates in Droga by having a shrink potion, You can then walk right through all the gates without having to get a single key (besides the coppernikel of course)
