This is the third Prayer Shawl Quest. You must do the first two before doing this. Ask Borannin "What chore?" and he will start you on the third quest.

Loremaster Borannin says 'Ahh, some fine specimens indeed, ______. I will have the best of these mounted at once, wish me luck in the contest! Here is the Cloth Prayer Shawl of our people. Before I forget, the council has issued yet another [chore] for you to complete.

You say, 'What chore?'

Loremaster Borannin says 'The council agrees that you have demonstrated a disdain for our enemy, the Kromrif, that rivals our own. They now ask that you demonstrate your loyalty to the Dain by humbling yourself and serving our people. Give this, my seal, to Mordin. He will instruct you further.

  • Mordin Frostcleaver is located in Mordin's Meats at LOC -214, -214.

    You say, 'hail Mordin Frostcleaver'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Ah, hello there, and welcome to me shop, Halfling. Ye'll have to excuse the mess but I've been havin a bloody good time here lately. . . HAR HAR, ye get it? Anyways, thanks to you offlanders I now have a selection of some exotic meats never afore seen here on Velious. In addition to supplyin' the freshest meat in Thurgadin I also offer tasks to would-be hunters in the wastes.

  • Give him Borannin's Seal.

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Hullo ______, I see you've signed on for a bit of food service eh? Well we can always use an extra pair a hands here dat's fer sure. First things first, warsh yer grubby mitts an cook up dinner fer good ol Leif. Shouldn be too tough fer ye, he has simple enough taste. • He gives you a napkin named "Leif's Napkin" is No Drop.

You say, 'What is a Tundrabear Sandwich?'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Dat's easy, ye just take a slab a dat Tundra Kodiak meat and a jug a sauce, put it in da oven, den combine the product with a loaf a bread in a mixin bowl an there ye be.

  • Get a Tundra Kodiak meat, put it in oven with jug of sauces to make Saucy Bearmeat. Put your creation in a mixing bowl with one loaf of bread, which Mordin sells, and combine. If your skill is high enough you get the sandwich. Turn this in to Guard Leif (location -284, +492, on the way to Grand Historian) with the napkin and get a "Used Napkin" back.

Guard Leif says 'Well I'll be derned. An outlander that can make a good Bearmeat 'n Bread! Thank ye, _______.'

You receive Brita's Napkin from Lorekeeper Brita. Hold onto this, you will turn it in on the next step.

You say, 'What is Ulthork Meat Pie?'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Hmm, lemme look that one up. Been awhile since I made one. Here we are, two Ulthork meats, a vinegar and a spices in a mixin bowl. Put yer meat mix, a clump a dough, an a pie tin in da oven an yer good ta go.

This requires two ulthork meat, and the problem here is that if you're not careful you will eat the meat. Most of the items you need to collect or make are edible. I know the kodiak meat and bunny meat do not get eaten, but everything else seems to disappear if not below your food in your inventory. I could not find any snake eggs in Thurgadin for the clump of dough, so I ported to Misty Thicket to get them. The pie tin is another stumbling block here unless you are good at smithing and pottery, or you have a friend who is. To smith the Pie Tin you first need to make a ceramic lining, so your pottery has to be trained somewhat. I had relatively good success with a 25 pottery, whereas my smithing is in the low 100's and I don't think the pie tin is trivial to me yet. Luckily the pie tin, and the pot in the previous step, are regular items that anyone can craft and give to you if you lack the proper skills.

  • Turn the pie and the napkin in to Lorekeeper Brita in the back of the Library and receive a dirty pie tin which you take back to Mordin for the final step in this quest.

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'More dirty dishes, eh? Well outlander, only one more meal to serve and I'll be done with ye. Make a snow griffin souffle fer the Grand Historian himself. It's his favorite.'

Your faction standing with Kromrif has been adjusted by -1.
    You gain party experience!!

  • The final task is to create a Snow Griffin Souffle. The person you are making this for is none other than the Grand Historian Thoridain himself.

You say, 'What is Snow Griffin Souffle?'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'This one's a bit tricky, ya toss four snow griffin eggs and a pack of spices in de oven. Ye must bake it just right or it's all gunna be wasted. When yer done bring it to Thoridain and if ye did it right he'll give ye his special seal. Just show Borannin that seal and yer shawl and he'll know that yer finished in the kitchen.

  • So now you need 4 Griffin eggs. I set out and with a little help was able to get 4 eggs to drop in about 3 hours. It would have gone faster, but I had trouble finding the Griffins. All in all I'd say we got the 4 eggs in about 12 - 15 Griffins, maybe even less.

  • Once you've made the souffle turn it in to Grand Historian Thoridain with the napkin. Here I learned something useful. I forgot to turn in the napkin when I turned in the souffle. In my excitement in creating the souffle I had completely forgotten. I was about to petition that he had eaten my item when I realized the forgotten napkin, so I gave him the napkin and to my suprise it worked.

Grand Historian Thoridain says 'My compliments, _________, what a wonderful dish! Please accept my personal Seal as a token of my appreciation. May it give you power over your adversaries.'

  • He gives you his Seal to give to Borannin with your second Prayer Shawl. Turn them into Loremaster Borannin.

Loremaster Borannin says 'Well done ______, the council will be impressed with your effort. Here is the woven prayer shawl, wear it with pride. I know there is talk of great plans for you, be sure to come back and ask me what the council has [brewing].

  • You receive Seal of Thoridain.

    You say, 'What is brewing?'

Loremaster Borannin says 'As of now they have nothing for me to tell you. Bear with me _______, there will soon be much to do!

For those who want it sumed up, here is a shopping list of items you will need to do the whole quest. This assumes no failures, so plan accordingly :)

    1 Tundra Kodiak Meat (Non-stackable)
    2 Jug of Sauces (Stackable)
    1 Loaf of Bread (Stackable)
    1 Mixing Bowl (Container)
4 Snow Griffin Eggs (Stackable, No Drop)
    3 Spices (Stackable)
    2 Frost Bunny Meat (Non-stackable)
    2 Flasks of Water (Stackable)
    1 Pot (Non-stackable, Not a container)
    2 Ulthork Meat (Stackable, edible)
    1 Vinegar (Stackable)
    1 Snake Egg (Stackable)
    1 Bottle of Milk (Stackable)
    1 Cup Flower (Stackable)
    1 Pie Tin (Non-stackable, Not a container)

One last note...I did this whole third quest without an open inventory slot, since I had to carry around a mixing bowl. So you don't have to worry about not getting an item from one of the NPC's if all of your slots are filled, anything they give you, including the shawl and the seal, fit in your backpacks.

    few observations
    # Nov 28 2001 at 8:38 AM Rating: Decent
I finished this last night. A few things I noticed. By killing the tundra mamoths 2-5 times a snow griffon spawned where the tundra mamoth died. Also, I was running around the bridge area killing snow bunnies and all of a sudden 3 griffs spawned. One was the elder. Talking to a druid that was helping trak for me, she said that killing the bunnies will do that. Give it a shot, the bunnies are easy to kill and you need meat from them anyway. Oh, I killed 8 griffons for 3 eggs and was allowed to loot an egg from somone else's kill. FYI, if you never fought griffons before (like me), they cast DoT's, DD and roots so have your magic buffs up.

My baking skill is 134 and I never failed on any of the food attempts. my smithing is 115 and I made the pot on the first shot.

I got all the cooking supplie's in EC (near the inn by the EC tunnel) and bought the mixing bowl in WFP from a vendor next to the monk guild (no name on the building).

I soloed all of this as a 49 wiz. This quest is worth it for the Seal alone!

    Regarding Mixing Bowls
    # Nov 19 2001 at 1:57 PM Rating: Default
It is possible to buy them in some shops. As you may have noted in the EverQuest game, not all towns are created equal. It's possible to buy a mixing bowl in Halas and in Qeynos, and I believe in Freeport and Cabilis, among possible others.

Go to http://www.eqtraders.com/location/baking.htm for a complete listing of all locales that sell supplies related to the Baking skill.

    RE: Regarding Mixing Bowls
    # Nov 30 2001 at 3:54 AM Rating: Decent
It is also very easy to make a mixing bowl if your pottery skill is sufficient to do the quest:

2 large blocks of clay, large bowl sketch, 1 flask of water : wheel.
Result + normal firing sheet in kiln

A friend of mine is going to hate this. He was making quite a killing by gating to Freeport to buy a bowl and gating back for people offering 100pp for a mixing bowl.

(and yes all the above ingrediants are buyable at the merchants in Thurgadin.)

The Pot can be made using pottery skills also (almost no smithing):

Pot sketch, large block of clay, 1 metal bits (from a friend :) 1 flask of water on wheel. 1 HQ firing sheet with result in kiln.
    Mixing Bowl
    # Nov 19 2001 at 11:56 AM Rating: Good
I've seen a number of posts about finding the bowl on merchants. There are merchants that regularly sell mixing bowls. I have purchased several in Freeport, so I know from experience.

You are reading this because you are on, or plan to do the 3rd shawl quest. If you plan to stop on the 3rd shawl (which I think would be foolish, considering how easy the 4th is), stop reading here.

The 4th shawl requires pottery skill. It takes less than 30p (if your faction and charisma are good with the merchants you must purchase from) to get your pottery skill to 102. Simply put, you purchase stacks of water, small bowls sketches, and then many small blocks of clay; combine in wheel and discard the final product (when you get successes). You can get from 0 to 102 in under 3 hours if you establish a good routine. At 102, switch to large bowl. This will require a change in sketches and switch to large block of clay (from small). It's slightly more expensive, but got me to 142 for another 40p. Take one success from this and fire it to get a mixing bowl.

You want to do this because the 4th shawl quest's basic requirement is pottery skill; you must create a Vial of Velium Vapors. I have one and expect this to greatly shortcut my questing for the 4th shawl.

One more advantage. Make the Vial of Velium Vapors now and you can use it to gate to Thurgadin any time you like (long cast, so don't expect an emergency save from it). It's not-stackable, lore and only one charge, but if you keep components on you, you can make them easily in Thurgadin.

For more information on the Vial of Velium Vapors, check the 4th shawl quest, or go to https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=5329

I got my pottery skill from 0 to 122 last night in an hour and a half in NFP using a similar method I saw on eq traders. Instead of doing small bowls, I did medium jars untill 35 and then medium bowls to 122. The most time consuming portion of the whole thing was finding the materials in the first place.

So to save you my trouble: the sketches are sold in the blue building just to the right of the NFP bank by the vendor on the first floor. Water is sold (among other places) in the bar right next to the pottery wheel. The clay is sold in grolafs forge by the female vendor. The pottery wheel is located in the grassy corner in the front of the NFP market.

Other things to speed this up: you can select single items from a stack by holding down the control key and left clicking on a stack. It is much faster that using that scroll bar to select a quantity. I would highly suggest getting a sow since it will cut down on your travel time between the wheel and grolaf's forge where the clay is sold.

If you aren't KOS in NFP, it is really the best place to do tradeskills since you can do your auctioning at the same time.

I just finish this quest the other night and the hardest part of it all is finding the snow griffin eggs. Just trying to find 4 eggs took me 3 days to do it. So here are a couple of friendly tips that will hopefully help you out when you do yours.

    - Make friends with a druid or a ranger or anyone with good tracking skills. Trust me, it will cut your snow griffin hunting time to half.

    - Make LOTS of Fishrolls (Batwing + Fresh Fish). Fishrolls trival at 135, which is more than enough to do the Snow Griffin Souffle.

Hope it helps out and good luck on your quests.

We were looking for Snow Griffs last night. What really helps is killing the Mammoths. There are a lot of them. We were able to make 3 Griffins spawn at the same time.

And remember: Terrorize Animal is a very, very usefull spell, when kiting Griffs. If they do resist snare (and they did often), simply cast Terrorize Animal and try again. Also very usefull if you have a mellee class in your group, so it won't get hit often.
    Fear/Charm Kiting Snow Griffs
    # Oct 12 2001 at 2:57 PM Rating: Good
After many nights of hunting these and much downtime in between kills, I found a method to kill snow griffs with relative ease.

Note: This strategy is for druids but I am sure other classes with similar spells could do the same thing.

    1) Snare a Snow Griffon
    2) Find a Tundra or Wooly Mammoth and charm it(I used both, but I prefered the Wooly Mammoths because they hit harder).
    3) Sick your pet on the griff and cast feral spirit on your pet.
    4) Let your pet get down to about 1/4 health and fear the griff.
    5) Cast fear on griff until your pet finishes him off.
    6) Wait for charm to break and finish your pet.

Using this method I usually got two kills(if the griff didn't kill my pet 1st) and only used about one bubble of mana.

I have combined 2 bunny meat and sauce in mixing bowl to make Saucey Rabbit. Then combined the Saucey Rabbit, 2-water, 1 spice, 1 pot into oven.
It doesn't make the stew. Says, "You can not combine these items" What do I need to do? I baking is at 80. Does it need to be at a higher lvl?

Sligth update/ correction to the quest: Droprates migth have changed since the text was writen, or maybe im incredibly unlucky (but most people i talked to seem to share this experience), 4 eggs in 12-15 griffs are not a proper ratio these days. The ratio i have are now exactly 1 egg for 15 griffs.

The mixing bowls everyone says they bought were made by a potter who then sold them... mixing bowls are trivial at pottery 128 and need 2 large blocks of clay, large bowl sketch and a firing sheet ( regular not high quality ). If you need to raise your pottery skill make medium bowls. They are fairly cheap to make and I raised my skill above 100 in a little less than an hour. P.S.- Don't fire your bowls... destroy them or drop them on the ground... firing the bowls for practice is just a waste of money... your skill will go up better with just making the unfired versions. Be sure to fire your mixing bowl, pot, pie tin though :)

Mixing bowls can also be purchased in North Kaladim from Tissin Greybloom & Serenk Greybloom (Greybloom Farm, N. Kaladim). It can be found in many other cities as well. Go to EQTraders.com and look in their list of trade supplies.

I imagine any egg will work for the dough. I used a griffon egg foraged in Karana and got 7 dough out of it. Leaving 6 for MMMmmmmmm cooooookies.

One of the best eggs are Basilisk eggs from Lavastorm. (I think 8 doughs from it.)

"Easy way." Ok, first, if your baking is at zero as mine was, put a bunch of points into it. Then go to the WFP Enc guild buy about 400 batwings, and then go to EFP by the vendor at the docks and buy 400 fish. Combine a batwing and a fish for hours and hours, then rinse and repeat. By the time I did about 760 attempts they were trivial at 135, and you also get a nice bonus by getting 250 or so banquet meals so it has its advantages.

This wont take hours if you bypass the stack scrollbar by "ctrl left clicking" the stacks to take just one of the items. I Got from 0 to 135 in less than 45 minutes. Very nice idea here though. BTW costed me about 15-20plat for the wings and fish, but those with better faction may get better prices.

Those pots are for sale in east freeport only because players made them for skill and sold the pots to the vendors near the forge.
