This is the third Prayer Shawl Quest. You must do the first two before doing this. Ask Borannin "What chore?" and he will start you on the third quest.

Loremaster Borannin says 'Ahh, some fine specimens indeed, ______. I will have the best of these mounted at once, wish me luck in the contest! Here is the Cloth Prayer Shawl of our people. Before I forget, the council has issued yet another [chore] for you to complete.

You say, 'What chore?'

Loremaster Borannin says 'The council agrees that you have demonstrated a disdain for our enemy, the Kromrif, that rivals our own. They now ask that you demonstrate your loyalty to the Dain by humbling yourself and serving our people. Give this, my seal, to Mordin. He will instruct you further.

  • Mordin Frostcleaver is located in Mordin's Meats at LOC -214, -214.

    You say, 'hail Mordin Frostcleaver'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Ah, hello there, and welcome to me shop, Halfling. Ye'll have to excuse the mess but I've been havin a bloody good time here lately. . . HAR HAR, ye get it? Anyways, thanks to you offlanders I now have a selection of some exotic meats never afore seen here on Velious. In addition to supplyin' the freshest meat in Thurgadin I also offer tasks to would-be hunters in the wastes.

  • Give him Borannin's Seal.

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Hullo ______, I see you've signed on for a bit of food service eh? Well we can always use an extra pair a hands here dat's fer sure. First things first, warsh yer grubby mitts an cook up dinner fer good ol Leif. Shouldn be too tough fer ye, he has simple enough taste. Make him a Tundrabear sandwich an lemme know when he's been fed. Dontcha ferget ta give him this with his meal.

  • He gives you a napkin named "Leif's Napkin" is No Drop.

You say, 'What is a Tundrabear Sandwich?'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Dat's easy, ye just take a slab a dat Tundra Kodiak meat and a jug a sauce, put it in da oven, den combine the product with a loaf a bread in a mixin bowl an there ye be.

  • Get a Tundra Kodiak meat, put it in oven with jug of sauces to make Saucy Bearmeat. Put your creation in a mixing bowl with one loaf of bread, which Mordin sells, and combine. If your skill is high enough you get the sandwich. Turn this in to Guard Leif (location -284, +492, on the way to Grand Historian) with the napkin and get a "Used Napkin" back.

Guard Leif says 'Well I'll be derned. An outlander that can make a good Bearmeat 'n Bread! Thank ye, _______.'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Well don, outlander! We'll make a chef of you before we're through. Next you'll need to whip up some Frost Bunny stew fer Missus Coldheart. Again, give her this napkin with her meal an' lemme know when she's been served.'

  • Once you mix the ingredients in a mixing bowl and get your Saucy Bunnymeat, you put that, one spice, 2 flasks of water and a pot into the oven to make the stew.

  • Give the stew to Trita (location -119, +318 near Frostbeard's Furs and Leather) with the Napkin and receive a dirty pot in return.

Lorekeeper Brita says 'Ohh, that's better. I get so touchy when I'm hungry. I should probably go apologize to Derrin for being snappy. Please return this to Mordin for me.'

You receive Brita's Napkin from Lorekeeper Brita. Hold onto this, you will turn it in on the next step.

You say, 'What is Ulthork Meat Pie?'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'Hmm, lemme look that one up. Been awhile since I made one. Here we are, two Ulthork meats, a vinegar and a spices in a mixin bowl. Put yer meat mix, a clump a dough, an a pie tin in da oven an yer good ta go.

This requires two ulthork meat, and the problem here is that if you're not careful you will eat the meat. Most of the items you need to collect or make are edible. I know the kodiak meat and bunny meat do not get eaten, but everything else seems to disappear if not below your food in your inventory. I could not find any snake eggs in Thurgadin for the clump of dough, so I ported to Misty Thicket to get them. The pie tin is another stumbling block here unless you are good at smithing and pottery, or you have a friend who is. To smith the Pie Tin you first need to make a ceramic lining, so your pottery has to be trained somewhat. I had relatively good success with a 25 pottery, whereas my smithing is in the low 100's and I don't think the pie tin is trivial to me yet. Luckily the pie tin, and the pot in the previous step, are regular items that anyone can craft and give to you if you lack the proper skills.

  • Turn the pie and the napkin in to Lorekeeper Brita in the back of the Library and receive a dirty pie tin which you take back to Mordin for the final step in this quest.

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'More dirty dishes, eh? Well outlander, only one more meal to serve and I'll be done with ye. Make a snow griffin souffle fer the Grand Historian himself. It's his favorite.'

    You gain party experience!!

  • The final task is to create a Snow Griffin Souffle. The person you are making this for is none other than the Grand Historian Thoridain himself.

You say, 'What is Snow Griffin Souffle?'

Mordin Frostcleaver says 'This one's a bit tricky, ya toss four snow griffin eggs and a pack of spices in de oven. Ye must bake it just right or it's all gunna be wasted. When yer done bring it to Thoridain and if ye did it right he'll give ye his special seal. Just show Borannin that seal and yer shawl and he'll know that yer finished in the kitchen.

  • So now you need 4 Griffin eggs. I set out and with a little help was able to get 4 eggs to drop in about 3 hours. It would have gone faster, but I had trouble finding the Griffins. All in all I'd say we got the 4 eggs in about 12 - 15 Griffins, maybe even less.

  • Once you've made the souffle turn it in to Grand Historian Thoridain with the napkin. Here I learned something useful. I forgot to turn in the napkin when I turned in the souffle. In my excitement in creating the souffle I had completely forgotten. I was about to petition that he had eaten my item when I realized the forgotten napkin, so I gave him the napkin and to my suprise it worked.

Grand Historian Thoridain says 'My compliments, _________, what a wonderful dish! Please accept my personal Seal as a token of my appreciation. May it give you power over your adversaries.'

  • He gives you his Seal to give to Borannin with your second Prayer Shawl. Turn them into Loremaster Borannin.

Loremaster Borannin says 'Well done ______, the council will be impressed with your effort. Here is the woven prayer shawl, wear it with pride. I know there is talk of great plans for you, be sure to come back and ask me what the council has [brewing].

  • You receive Seal of Thoridain.

Loremaster Borannin says 'As of now they have nothing for me to tell you. Bear with me _______, there will soon be much to do!

For those who want it sumed up, here is a shopping list of items you will need to do the whole quest. This assumes no failures, so plan accordingly :)

    1 Tundra Kodiak Meat (Non-stackable)
    2 Jug of Sauces (Stackable)
    1 Loaf of Bread (Stackable)
    1 Mixing Bowl (Container)
4 Snow Griffin Eggs (Stackable, No Drop)
    3 Spices (Stackable)
    2 Frost Bunny Meat (Non-stackable)
    2 Flasks of Water (Stackable)
    1 Pot (Non-stackable, Not a container)
    2 Ulthork Meat (Stackable, edible)
    1 Vinegar (Stackable)
    1 Snake Egg (Stackable)
    1 Bottle of Milk (Stackable)
    1 Cup Flower (Stackable)
    1 Pie Tin (Non-stackable, Not a container)

One last note...I did this whole third quest without an open inventory slot, since I had to carry around a mixing bowl. So you don't have to worry about not getting an item from one of the NPC's if all of your slots are filled, anything they give you, including the shawl and the seal, fit in your backpacks.

    Mr Very Confused,

If you noticed this part of quest can be MQ'd (as can other parts). If you don't want to spend the time to raise your baking, you can have someone else make the items and turn them in-you just turn in the napkin to them after friend gives them the food. If you desire to raise your baking skill(why not?), you can find a spit easily in Surefall Glade near the zone to Qeynos Hills. There is a merchant just before the cave to the zone. Combine a buttload of Bat Wings and Fish(in EC and WC respectively), and you'll raise your baking skill to about 135(not to mention have a LOT of food you can sell in the bazaar for a good 1pp each to all the money hungry bastards selling their crap for K's of PP.)

I'm not sure why everyone is having so many problems with the snow griffon eggs.... there are lots of snow griffons around the IC bridge in EW, and they are easy enough to kill... I killed 4 and got 4 eggs.... one on each corpse (and feathers on 3 of them and claws on one)
    question
    # Aug 16 2002 at 2:21 PM Rating: Default
does anyone know what napkin we are suppose to have and give to thoridain with the snow griffin souffle ?? and how can we get the napkin back if we dont have it without going through the entire quest again .

If you havn't figured it out already, the bunnie meat drops off of snow bunnies in east waste, im guessing they're level 1 or 2, so when your running around looking for griffons just pop them as you see them, they're non-stackable so make sure you got 2 open slots, also if you want just auction to buy them in EW and maybe someone will have some, hope that helped.

I got all 4 eggs in under 2 hours and was very very happy. Went back to Thurg and with my skill of 152 in Baking went to make my Souffle. And I failed, bah!! Oh well back to EW I go.

Anyway just wanted to say that best way to get baking up is to make filleted bear or wolf. Just combine 1 fillet knife and appropriate meat in oven/spit. Yields 4. After that made creamy filleted bear. 1 filleted bear and 1 cream. Awesome thing is this gives plus 3 STR and neg 1 INT.

actually, the best way to get baking skill up is to buy a bunch of stacks of batwings and a bunch of stacks of fresh fish, put one batwing in, one fresh fish, hit combine..0-135 in under a couple of hours.

because of the limited availabilty of Fish on Vendors i would rather do Batwing Crunchies (1Batwing+1Frosting) till triv and then move on to Beer Braised Bear (1Bearmeat+1Shortbeer+1spices) agin till triv then do Filleted Bear/Wolf/Lion (B/W/L meat+Filletingknife)till 143skill. The only part that is not sold by vendors is the Filleting Knife but that can be made with Smithing (3MetalBits+ScalerMold+Water). Aside from that everything is sold by one of the normally paired Baking Vendors in any of the Cities.
I made it to 143 skill in 3 1/2 hours with this route and i had to figure it out as i went along.

Another bonus is that the Beer Braised Bear has 2str n1int on it and like all the other items i mentioned , is very cheep to make.

I applaud you for finding a different way to raise your baking skill to the neccessary level to complete this portion of the quest, however, Fish Rolls are far easier to do. Fresh Fish IS readily available in UNLIMITED quantities on at least two vendors that I know of, one in West Commons, and one in Freeport. Add to that the batwing vendor in East Commons, and you can get your baking up to 135 in no time.

Hey peeps! I have a better way to get pottery skill up than to use the bat wing crunchies. fire get yourself a fillet knife. I believe the recipie is a scaller mold 3 metal bits and a water flask. Don't quote me on that but I believe so. then Go to morgins meats or whatever his little shop is in thurgadin. ( same guy you have to report to for the food delivery). Buy a ton of bear meat. then go to the oven behind him right there take on bear meat and the fillet knife and combine. you will always get back the fillet knife. at first you wont be successful very much but it is a great way to skill up. I started with skill 23 and after 30 mins and a profit of 10 plat my skill was at 143 ( filleted bear meat is trivial then) hope this helps worked wonders for me. good luck!

DO NOT PUT THE NO DROP GRIFFIN EGGS INTO THE OVEN THEN CLOSE IT!!!!

I did this and they ******* disappeared. I thought I had the spices on me so I put the eggs in 1st then looked in my bags for the spices. Couldn't find the spices and closed the oven accidently. When I opened it up again the eggs were gone. This really sucks. VERY BAD LUCK with this part that's for sure. I was the ******* moron that failed with a 135 below too. This is my 2nd character to try to get the 3rd shawl you'd think I knew what the **** to do this time around.

PS - no, nobody was around me.

I've spent the last few days workin on this quest and finished it up last night Here are some tips,
if ya need to get baking up from 0 (like i did) made sandwiches from skill 1-25 or so then steaks after they got trivial made pickled stuff then after that beer braised steaks all of the above stuff took me to 68 skill roughly once i got that far i started trying to make fish rolls and kept at it till they got trivial at 135. As for the components themselves all the main stuff you need drops in EW Tundra kodiak meat is common as can be same with the ulthork, snow bunnies are kinda hard to find if ya dont have track but drop the meat pretty often then there are the evil griffins who are hard to find and dont drop eggs very often, most of the griffin spawns i saw were around sleepers (took roughly 3 days to get 4 eggs). As for the mixing bowl bought mine from the lady in WFP near the theatre. All the combines were trivial at 135 with no failures so i'm now the owner of the third shawl and seal. Well off to raise pottery now.

Yes the griffs are very hard to find, seems like i sae most just over hill east of kael entrance. If ya got room just start hunying this area from the start for giant stuff, meats, eggs, manes etc. One thing noticed by my partner is that when there were lots of griffs around no bunnys to be seen and vice versa. Although my bunny stew was made already i would kill them and seemed to spawn a griff within a few min most of the time. If anyone can confirm this or have noticed the same, plz post.

    Drop rate, tracking and adds
    # Jun 15 2002 at 6:21 PM Rating: Default
Been helping a guildie with this and being a ranger was supplying my tracking and fear kiting (Panic Animal 22 lvl rranger spell) skills.

The drop rate is okish compared to a lot of stuff, we had 2 eggies for ten griffs.

I am quite often asked to track stuff for ppl and can definately say that tracking will save you hours.

The nightmare was the amount of adds, possibly as I am lvl 37 and I imagine a lot of the ppl doing this will a bit higher and will not get so much hassle from the snow dervishes, dire wolves and frost giants. Root and atone helped but it got hairy a couple of times. Be prepared for adds.

The adds are still a problem, though not quite *as* bad, since they aggro on you even if they're so green as to be laughable.

the snow griffin eggs are what i would call a non-common drop, but not a rare drop. ive had days in which ive killed maybe 25 snow griffins and have gotten only 4 eggs, and others in which i kill maybe 10 snow griffins for 4 eggs. and the mixing bowls can be found in west freeport near the monk guild. hope this helps

    The Mixing Bowl
    # May 25 2002 at 11:05 AM Rating: Decent
I have heard many people talk about the difficulty in finding the mixing bowl. This may not be helpful because it's a long way to get one, but I have been in Runnyeye several times off and on and the goblin merchants there have always had a mixing bowl. Kind of strange and out of the way, but I've never failed to find one there.

For those who do not want to go though the trouble of making a mixing bowl, you can buy one from the woman vendor on the Erudin docks.

2 large blocks of clay, one large bowl sketch, one flask of water, combine in a pottery wheel to make the unfired mixing bowl.

Combine that and a firing sheet (not low or high quality, just a regular one) in a kiln to fashion your mixing bowl.

Make sure you have an empty inventory slot for the finished bowl as it is a container.

If your pottery skill isn't high enough to do this, better get it up...you'll need it for the next shawl anyway...trivial for the mixing bowl is 128.

All you need to make a mixing bowl is in Thurgadin. Pottery trivial around 56.

A mixing bowl is trivial at 128, not 56.

A pot is trivial at 56.
It was fun until the souffle failed!

Screwed up the 1st time and gave Mordin the sandwich. Had to go back and hunt the Tundra kodiaks. Ended up with a few meat. Killed 8 snow griffins got the 4 eggs. The 4th one was on the 1st elder snow griffin I killed. Made all the meals on the 1st try with my 135 cooking skill.
Wussed out on the damn souffle. Pissed off that I have to kill more griffins. This sucks!

I just turned in my Snow griffin souffle and received shawl #2 and the seal. Who do i give the seal to? Some people say Borannin as in the walkthrough above, but other people are saying give the seal to mordin. I assumed that they are probably refering to the first seal in the other quest. I just dont want to turn this stuff in to the wrong guy. The historian doesnt tell me what to do next and neither does Borannin.

That makes little sense...if you turned in your snow grif souffle, you get the Seal of Thoridain. Turn in the Seal of Thoridain + your 2nd shawl to receive your 3rd shawl and the Seal of Thoridain back. The Seal after this part is for you to keep, it doesn't go to anyone else (to my knowledge). Just a little bonus for you to put in your range slot.
