When you kill an Orc Slaver, sometimes they will drop keys. The keys always are the same for the particular race/sex combo of a slave, but different slaves can spawn in the same places. Each key has a number to go to a lock on the slaves. When you match the key with the lock (slave) you will get xp and some cash. The number/lock combinations are as follows (except for Retlon, you can give a slave one copper and they'll tell you which key unlocks them):
Key # 15 goes to Retlon Brenclog. Key # 16 goes to a Male Dwarf Slave. Key # 17 goes to a Female Dwarf Slave. Key # 18 goes to a Male Wood Elf Slave. Key # 19 goes to a Female Wood Elf Slave. Key # 20 goes to a Male High Elf Slave. Key # 21 goes to a Female High Elf Slave. Keys # 22-24 are used to free prisoners in the minotaur caves in Steamfont (may be broken as of February 2015 - need confirmation). You say, 'Hail, Retlon Brenclog' Retlon Brenclog says 'Oh my word!! Don't free Rentlon and his pet. I got wacked by Rentlon pet with 3 hits. Both have powerful spells. Had to fight orcs to defend myself, and these 2 clowns attacked me. When you hit orcs, Rentlon attacks you.

Key 22 is for Retlon's pet. But, you can only free him if you free Retlon first. Retlon has never attacked me after I freed him.

Slaves help Orcs. Captured Slaves that have spells will buff Orcs when within range and you are beatin on the Orc. Freed Slaves will assist Orcs in a fight if they are within range and you are beatin on the Orc, the Slave will join in and beat on you. Good faction is received when freeing slaves and bad faction is received when killing slaves, captured or free. If you dont have good enough faction, you cant free them by giving them the right key.
That is stupid, why do the Slaves help their Slavers? It seems that they don't like when you
help them...

When you free a slave they dissapear. The one that is beating on you is the next spawn. you shouldnt kill them its like killing merchant or gaurd. its baaaaad.
if u dont want to kill the slave then zone. they wont agro you when you come back in. it works for me.

I am a Dark Elf Shadow Knight, pretty much the most hated thing in GFay. I have been killing slavers and freeing slaves from 6th level to 12th. My faction has rasied with the Elven guards of Kelethin and Felwithe to dubious.
The slaves attacked me too, until I reached a level where they conned green, then I could free them. However the High Elfs, which do accept the key from me refuse to be freed and reply "I won't do anything for the likes of you".

As a Dark Elf, it might interest you to know that killing Crushbone Orcs is destroying your faction with the Indigo Brotherhood, which includes a lot of the Dark Elf warrior types who wander about the city of Neriak. Just something to consider when you decide to return home to train or whatever. Good luck!

You mean to tell me that the first and only key I have gotten so far is for Retlon? Jesus God! his pet like camped by the CB entrance and killed my practiacaly 8 times. everytime a train came by (which is usually when i walk into the zone) he would attack. Where is this guy so i cxan give him his friggin key?

He spawns in a crack just before where the slavers spawn if you cross the bridge after the wall (famous campspot) and turn right, just go there and look to your right for a crack in the ground, he is down there if he is not out chasing some poor PC around the zone :)

Perhaps keys 22 and up are useless except for getting the slaves to tell you which key they do need?

Best way to find out which key the slaves need is just by giving them a copper coin. They will say something along the lines of "No! I don't need this! Bring me key number xx!

Quest was good for levels 8 - 18. However, slaves kept attacking us when we freed them.

That shouldn't happen unless you were being attacked by an orc at the same time. And just from personal experience, I think this quest stopped giving me good experience at about level 12.

opps ok i am a iksar so far i can free dwarf males all wood elfs and i think i can free the high elfs but not sure i know the dwarf female wont help me so just saying i am not kos to dwarf males and i think high elfs will ad more when i see more high elfs

You should be able to free all the slaves without them attacking you, unless you are being attacked by an orc. The only thing that should happen is your faction goes up.

I was fighting an orc centurion near the slaves while waiting for the slaver. A male high elf slave started to cast healing spells upon the orc???

if you kill this guy you will get elfblood(magical) and loose faction with the rouges of something. can't quite remember.

Had a rough time killing the orc slaver while the high elf did the rapid fire tiny healing on him. Once dead, the slaver had key number 20 and I set that same high elf free. No comment from the elf other than the regular, but at least he was GONE.

i have been freeing slaves for the last 2 days to raise faction for my iksar monk... if the slaves dont let you free them b/c of your faction to them, you can get around it... well at least i can. I use sneak. Get behind the little elf or dwarf and sneak up to them. then give them the key and viola! they are free and you get faction. Not sure what the 22+ keys are for so i just toss them. if you are on Bristlebane and want to get rid of some keys or want to make money, give me a tell. Ill buy keys number 18 and 19 off ya. they call me Ventar.
P.S. Sneak is also useful to get merchants to sell or buy from me. and the banker still tries to kill me so i use feign death for him. if someone knows how to raise banker faction, please let me know. e-mail me and i will be forever grateful. jailim@yahoo.com

Hey im only a level 2 rogue wood elf, and i would like to know if any monsters in crushbone can see through hide and sneak..... could someone plz tell me?

if you are successful at hide, nothing will eversee you. Sneak doesn't make you invisible, it makes it harder to see you. If you get too close to a monster while sneaking, it will see you. You can become invisible, however, if you successfully hide (don't move) and then successfully sneak. You can move around slowly and nothing will see you - not even undead.
i've been attacked by goblin shaman while in sneak/hide, so some folks see thru it. bixies, too, for some reason.
Yeah, you _can_ be seen when doing hide/sneak; rumor has it that MoBs that con red can see through it sometimes. I got whacked by an Orc Oracle in Butcherblock as I wandered past them. And as a 2nd-level Rogue, MANY things will con red to you . . .

Actually I like doing it not so much for anything other than freeing them... I don't know why. Anyway, the faction is a big help... or at least I've found it to be. Besides, it gives one something to do between killing leggos and slavers
The reward on this post states only coin, however Somewhat akin to turning in gnoll and orc pelts in HHP, the keys are great faction increasers with the elves and dwarves of Faydwer.

When you free a slave, he gives you a reward of several copper, silver, and gold coins. Plus certain factions increase, depending on the slave.

I believe you get as much as coin as ppl have given the slaves b4 they are freed.... so if ppl have given 12 copper to find out key number... yyou get 12... not sure tho

This is an easy quest to do, once you know the combinations. As you're going through Crushbone you can't help but trip over slavers from time to time, and they almost always drop a key (though they seem to like key #24, and that's not known yet... oh well).
I was grouped with a dark elf who tried to do this quest, and the slaves refused her help, though, so it's only good for faction if your faction is already ok. Also, the slaves kept attacking her... very bad for faction when you kill a slave.
