"a dwarven smith" is at location 60, 746 in Crushbone.

Hand a dwarven smith a Brass Earring dropped by orc taskmaster.

A dwarven smith says, 'Outstanding! If you can kill the taskmaster, you might prove useful in recovering the items the orcs took from me when they caught me out in the Faydarks. [Interested] in helping me out?'

You gain experience!

You receive Unfinished Blade Mold.

You say, 'I am Interested'

A dwarven smith says, 'Okay, then! The first item you can get back for me is my brass shield. Up on that hill, over where the trainees practice, there is usually an instructor. Last time I saw my shield, it was in the hands of one of those blasted lackeys. Bring it back to me!'

Hand a dwarven smith a Shiny Brass Shield, dropped by an orc trainer.

a dwarven smith says 'MY SHIELD!! Excellent, laddie! Next item on the list is my ringmail. Once I have my ringmail, I am out of here for good. I will finally be able to leave!'

You gain experience!!

You receive an Unfinished Sledge Mold (any known use?).

You say, 'What about ringmail?'

a dwarven smith says 'The king was the last person I heard of who was wearing what sounded like my ringmail. Return it to me and I will reward you with a fine weapon I forged myself.'

Hand a dwarven smith the Dwarven Ringmail Tunic, dropped by Emperor Crush.

a dwarven smith says 'AHA!! My ringmail!! My, you ARE a resourceful one! Here is your reward as promised. It is exquisite, if I do say so myself. You might also wish to tell the priest in the cell over there that the king is dead. I am sure he will be pleased to hear that and might even be able to help you further. Farewell! It's time for me to make my escape!'

You gain experience!!

You receive a Dwarven Mace.

"an elven priest" is located at 84, 744 in Crushbone.

You say, 'The king is dead.'

an elven priest says 'Dead you say? My goodness! Did you manage to slay the warlord too? If you provide me with proof of his death, I can enchant the mace the dwarf gave you as payment. But, I will require the proof first!'

Hand an elven priest the Bracers of Battle, dropped by the orc warlord.

an elven priest says 'Erollisi be praised! You slew the orc lord! Well, here is a token of my appreciation! Should you wish to have that mace enchanted, just hand me the mace and my token and I shall uphold my end of the bargain!'

You gain experience!!

You receive a Prayer Cloth of Tunare.

Give the Dwarven Mace and the Prayer Cloth of Tunare to an elven priest.

an elven priest says 'Have you the other item I require?'

an elven priest says 'As promised, here is your mace. Let it not fall into dark hands as its power is hidden until combat when it will reveal its true nature. Fare thee well!'

You gain experience!!

You receive a Screaming Mace.

Don't turn in the SBS!

You don't have to turn in the SBS! All you have to turn in to the dwarf is the Dwarven Ringmail Tunic. The SBS is a good shield to use at low levels. It's too good to waste. All the pieces required to do the Screaming Mace quest are good items for low level players. Do the quest twice. Once to get the Screaming Mace, then again to get all the pieces to equip.

The Screaming Mace was an important item back in the early days. Getting your hands on ANY weapon that was MAGIC was a necessity because it allowed you to hunt wisps and the lightstones and greater lightstones they dropped helped a lot of lowbies to gear up. MAGIC weapons didn't just drop off most low level mobs, you usually had to have a group or raid to take on anything that dropped one and then you had to roll for it against everyone else in the group or raid so it usually took you a while to get one. Anyone who had a spare one in the bank usually wanted a fortune for it. Don't just dismiss these low level quests out of hand without considering the times players lived in back then.

As of today the quest still works. They seem to not talk but if you say the stuff in the right order they do speak.

I gave the shield to the dwarf and he said, "MY SHIELD!! Excellent, laddie! Next item on my list is my ringmail. Once I have my ringmail I am out of here for good. I will finally be able to leave."

Then I said, "What about the ringmail?"

dwarf smith says, "The king was the last person I heard who was wearing my ringmail. Return it to me and I will reward you with a fine weapon I forged."

I gave it to him, he gave more dialog. Then I spoke to the priest, thats who you say.. "The king is dead" Then he responds.

Its not at least to this point level restricted as I did it with my rogue at lvl 70 while just messing around in the zone. (Fixing merchant faction in Kelethin. Yea, I was bored) :)

FINALLY!! I got the BoB to drop today. I have been trying off and on with various characters to do the Screaming Mace and finally got the BoB to drop and I wasn't even intending to do the quest today, since I had given up hope that I would ever get a BoB. I'll probably just turn it in for the prayer cloth since the Screaming Mace is only 10PP on my server and I have better weps already anyway.

Broken quest?
# Jun 14 2003 at 2:14 AM Rating: Decent
The quest isnt broken, I just handed the Dwarven Ringmail Tunic to the Dwaven smith, he gave me the mace. Handed the Bracers of Battle to the Elven priest, he gave me the Prayer Cloth. Handed the cloth and the mace back to him and (trumpet sounds) got the Screaming Mace. No need to talk to them.

Is Quest broken im a Wood elf ranger and the smith is my ally but he won't talk to me? I hail and have told him the king is dead but he just ignores me.
RE: Quest broken?
# Sep 21 2003 at 1:37 PM Rating: Default
Nope the quest isn't broken - you have to say "What about the ringmail" to the Dwarven Smith to start the chat - then hand him the ringmail you looted from Emperor Crush.
He then gives you the Dwarven Mace.
Now talk to the Elven Priest, say "The King is dead", then he asks if you killed the warlord too - hand the elven priest the Bracers of Battle you looted from the Orc Warlord. You now have the Prayer Cloth & the Dwarven Mace.
Hand both these back to the Priest for the Screaming Mace.

Anybody that can use the Screaming Mace, can also use all the items you have to turn in to get it a lot more. Do the math and add up all the stat buffs from all the items you turn in. It just isn't worth giving up all that gear for a 8/35 yaulping mace, which sells for 20PP or less in bazaar if you really must have it.

The Old Days

Do you remember,
When magic was very rare?
When differences were set aside,
So that power all could share?

Do you remember,
Making friends from far and wide?
Teaching others languages,
When you HAD to take the long boat ride?

Do you remember,
When legends of the mace were first told?
The wonder and amazement,
That by QUESTING; its power YOU could hold?

Do you remember,
Finding more than you bargained for?
When through long QUESTING,
You found items that could help you even more?

If to one question,
You answered no;
Rant not upon the old.
Realize its legacy,
And by all let the truth be told.

The poem was very nice, I wish it was back in the old days when everyone still roleplayed instead of eth 2 or 3 people a day i meetthat do or try. I damit im not the best but i do try adn if it were back in the old days i could learn more easily thorugh listening to others talk and act. Anyways, heres a person who wishes it back and really like your poem, id send it to verant and tell them to take off teh bazaar thing and rcommend roleplay instead. Thanks

Very nice poem. It can be sad to see how things have changed, but, all in all, I wouldn't go back. Nostalgic moment over, how does a lvl 9 bard know anything of the old EQ days?

None of the NPCs reply
# Sep 13 2002 at 11:45 AM Rating: Decent
I need to know if anyone has done this recently, with the condtion that the NPCs simply did not speak to you.

I am amiable to the smiths and priest, but hails, saying "the king is dead" etc. doesn't get a response. I've gotten all of the items, but it took forever and I don't want to loose this stuff if the NPC eats it.

Anyone know if it's broken or will this work now that the NPCs are mute.

As far as I know, these NPCs have never responded to hails. Certainly not for at least a year. The elf has always responded to [the king is dead], however. If he won't respond to that, turning in Bracers might be a bit risky. Should work at amiable though. The smiths don't respond to much of anything. Just make sure you give the Dwarven Ringmail tunic to the smith in the *middle* alcove and you should be fine. I did this quest with no problems about two weeks ago, so unless it got broken very recently you should be alright.
Prayer Cloth of Tunare
# Aug 01 2002 at 1:35 PM Rating: Decent
If the Screaming Mace does not interest you, or if you do not want to give up your SBS or Dwarven Ringmail Tunic, you can simply give the Bracers of Battle to the Elven Priest in the slaver cabin and receive the Prayer Cloth. You do not have to do anything with the dwarves beforehand. For a High Elf Cleric, adding the 3 WIS from the prayer cloth is just sugar on the newbie armour cake. ;)

Hey Folks,
I have the SBS and DRT already, just need the BoB. What I was wondering was-- if I don't need the screaming mace or any of the items, would I be better off selling the items individually or getting the screaming mace and selling it? I can look at average price and kind of figure it out, but I was hoping to get opinions from people out there in the trenches who really know the market. Let me know. Thanks-

The only item I have ever been able to sell for more than a few plat is the prayer shawl of tunare. It is +3wis on shoulders. great for lowby druids. BoB is worthless. SBS is worth like 20pp on my server, and is a good shield. But you do not need to turn it in to do the screaming mace quest. DRT has nice resists, but nobody cares about resists at low levels (I do, but nobody else seems to). It has less ac than banded, so you won't sell for much.

Screaming mace is nearly worthless these days. Ratio stinks, and the effect is basically yaulp. You MIGHT be able to sucker a complete newby into buying it, but a club like a sarnak enforcer would be better, and you could buy that for 10pp if you can find someone who bothers to sell it, rather than just vendoring it.

Is it really safe to gruop in cb @ lvl 8? i really need that prayer cloth to boost my WIS. the screaming mace is magic, and certain mobs can only be hit by a magic weapon, so i need that too. is grouping in cb at 8 a good idea?

#Anonymous, Posted: May 30 2002 at 9:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 8/35 is not such a good damage ratio. As far as the dwarven mace goes, most merchants sell non magic weps that are better than this and a whole lot cheaper and there a lot of cheap magic weps out there that hit harder and have better procs or stat buffs than the screaming. To show how useless it is, I had two seperate people give my ranger a Dwarven Ringmail tunic and a Shiny Brass shield. I later bought a Foremans Tunic so I keep the Dwarven in the bank. My advice? If you have all the parts, /auction them and spend the loot on something better.
