This is a solo task that begins with Veldmir Velweaver (map - full zone map) in the Crystal Caverns (Fragment of Fear). He is found in a room in the northwest part of Froststone at location -170, 300, -399.

You say, 'Hail, Veldmir Velweaver'

Veldmir Velweaver says 'Hello _____. Please excuse the mess.' The dwarf gestures to the many [corpses] at his feet, 'Had I known I was going to have visitors, I might have cleaned the place up a bit.'

You say, 'What corpses?'

Veldmir Velweaver says 'Oh, these are much more than corpses! They're a crucial part of my ongoing [research].'

You say, 'Research?'

Veldmir Velweaver smirks, 'Oh don't be coy! You've been here long enough to notice changes in the native population. Spiders, tentacles, and even a few coldain have been touched by fear! Captain Dunstan is doing his part to figure out the cause, and I'm doing my part to figure out a [cure].'

You say, 'What cure?'

Veldmir Velweaver nods fervently, 'Something needs to be done to reverse the effects, or we'll all lose our minds to fear. That is not a scenario any of us want to witness. I've been conducting experiments in an attempt to isolate the fear and remove it, but it is very difficult obtaining test subjects. The creatures within the caverns are all so hostile. It's almost impossible to collect a [living sample] for my studies.'

You say, 'A living sample?'

Veldmir Velweaver says 'I need a control subject, a creature that has not been tainted. I will also need a subject that is already contaminated with the essence of fear. All must be docile and living, which will prove to be difficult without [Tranquilizer Darts].'

Veldmir Velweaver is trying to create a cure for the fear that is plaguing Crystal Caverns, but to do so, he needs living test subjects.

You'll need tranquilizer darts to subdue the test subjects. Derron Coldmist should be willing to craft them.

You say, 'What about the tranquilizer darts?'

Veldmir Velweaver says 'Do you not have any Tranquilizer Darts yet?' The coldain scientist sighs, 'Well then, I suggest you speak to Derron Coldmist. I know he's very busy, but I'm sure if you collect the raw materials he'll be willing to make you some. You'll then use the darts to subdue the test subjects and lure them back to me.'

Derron Coldmist nods as you make your request for tranquilizer darts, 'I can make those, but I'll need a few things first. Bring me an icy tentacle and a crystal venom sac and I will craft your darts.'
