As of right now, there are at least a couple dozen 'a cliknar invader' engaged in a 'fight'(just all of them scripted to play the attack animation) with Guardian of the Seal and two 'an Animated Construct'. They all con indifferent, but the Cliknar WILL assist each other. The Cliknar also hit for around 4000~. When killed, they seem to instantly decay and respawn after 10-15 minutes.
Was wondering if Nortlav the Scalekeeper still exists after they revamped the Hole? According to EQAtlas, if you look at the map, he is supposed to be at #7 room (but then so is Master Yael and was told he no longer exixts) If Nortlav does exist, how do you get there because if you swim the lake, there is a waterfall which if you go over it, it causes 200K damage - so obviously going over the falls isn't an option. If anyone can answer these questions, please help me out asap. Thanks a bunch. Rognar (and Lizzy)
This jump no longer kills. I went over the waterfall/ledge just a few days ago and landed with no damage. No mobs either, but lots of "corpse of dead adventurer" laying around and a swirling mist that is now a zone-in to "Brell's Rest" (probably the location where the locked door to the "Plane of Underfoot" used to sit)
Quicky summary, is that Yael killed Nortlav, the gnome got mad and created the guardian to kill yael, and guard the door to underfoot. Nortlav is still down there, as the "echo of" Nortlav.
If you don't want to fight all the way down, and have a means to invuln, you can hop in from the hole in paineel. Just be sure to jump first, zone, then invuln. Otherwise, since it's now in the short buff box, it will fade the moment you zone.
I think the waterfall method worked because the water was "just" deep enough to land in. But since you move forward a tad while falling, you back up over the fall so that you creep back toward it as you fall, landing in the water.
back in the day, if you walk (not run) down the waterfall backwards and very slowly (well that is , fall down backwards i guess), you could fall into the pool without taking the fall damage, not sure if that works anymore but that's what i used to do.
that's where Echo of Nortlav spawns, lookin at him now.
A "Dented Construct" - gray to a 65 spawns near the temple area. It dropped "Mud Covered Chain Legwraps"
Pretty sure it is one of the (now old) Hot Zone mobs. It is a super low level mob compared to the others in the area, it probably should have spawned near the massive constructs.
Restrictioins - Slot: EAR HEAD FACE NECK SHOULDERS ARMS BACK WRIST RANGE HANDS FINGERS CHEST LEGS FEET WAIST Recommended level of 40. Required level of 35. Class: ALL Race: ALL
Also the item droped pretty far in, off one of the constructs near the gargoyles around location pos 63, neg 105, neg 276
Hope this helps

just killed this mob in the hole tonight called an unmasked changline it turned into my character from one of the other normal mobs after it dropped in hp dropped a 25 hp aug with 2 to all saves called minor stone of might
Squeezing past the rocks into the hole is a pain but its stil possible, i did it in wolf form. Just keep at it. Run forward contantly circling your cursor around clockwise really fast.
Has always been the door there, but just for storyline. The event surrounding it with the opening of the Hole is detailed on the soe site still I think. A guide/gm key can open it, and it goes to a dead end.
They will open the way to plane of underfoot in a future expansion along with others just gotta wait for it. And if they dont well poo on EQ for not including such important places.
I have often taken a dwarf or a halfling into The Hole by squeezing through the crack above the door. However, a week or two ago I tried to do the same squeeze I have done many, many times, but could not for the life of me get through the crack.
Yep, using the same characters that have done it before, doing it the same way, in the same place, etc. I've done it many times, but it didn't work the last time I tried.
Have they made the crack impassable? Did my dwarf put on a little too much weight? Just bad luck? Anybody else notice this recently?
High Scale Kirn spawned on the third floor of the castle, /loc -21, 264, -243. You need a key to open the door, link here, and elsewhere on the forums I read that the doors cannot be lockpicked, but I cannot confirm. Was extremely easy with level 63 Shaman and Qvik-geared 70 monk.
I 3 boxed my 66 Monk 63 Shaman and 61 Mage to Kirn. We are all mid bazzar geared, nothing great. Ancient Construct, Old Construct and Ruined Gargoyle the "mini named" all dropped the key you need for Kirns room. And yes, getting to Kirn is 10,000 times harder than the fight with Kirn himself. There were two "safe spots" I used to pull to. I say that in quotes because they do contain a roamer or two but that is nothing compared to the adds you will get here usually.
The first spot was behind the blasted doors, in the tunnel. Only one roaming construct here. Pull from the building Kirn is in to here until you can get up the stairs to the "Courtyard" with The Ghost of Kindle who will not bother you. Right where she is standing is the second safe spot to pull from Kirns tower to.
One word of warning. The Gargoyles on the walls will aggro sometimes, especially if a group member is lower than level 60 or so. So you may want to pull them too.
Respawns are fast here so I suggest pulling until your group can progress up the stairs without getting more adds than you can handle.
When in Kirns room, clear the mobs around him before giving him the icon. He is indifferent and will not attack until you hand it to him. He does run at low health.

After 14 years, I'm not listing every friggin character.
The hole has become incredibly easy after the revamp. My group (me as a 60 paladin, 58 druid, 58 beastlord, 56 enchanter) made it all the way to The Ghost of Kindle without a death. They key is to know where you are going and what you can handle. We mainly dealth with single pulls, with the occassional double. Best thing is to move fast enough to prevent repops from hurting, but that is just my thoughts. Watch out for gargoyles cause they seem to agro at the worst times.
#Eueadder,
Posted:Sep 18 2004 at 2:53 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i nvr risked this but can u drop dwn the huge ass hole with levi and not die? thx
Nope. At one point if you jumped in it would spit you out in Toxx, but after that it killed you and made for a nasty CR, (w/o the friendly neighbornood...), before the modern day conviences. It was great to watch everyone try new ideas: "I can do it with lev....oh yah, jump!...aaaaaaaa splat, I can do it invuln....aaaaaa splat, I have max safe fail...aaaaaa splat", you get the idea, and I get a fond memory to laugh at =) That was back in the Master Yael era. Looks like after the more rescent revamp they may have eased this up too, gonna have to go make a baby cleric on some server and try jumping again - Geronimo! =)
Hi i was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about "a templebound spirit". My group ran into him last night and we got wiped...the cleric's heal spells wouldn't take on any of the group. Not sure if it was a zone bug or something from the Mob, any information would be appreciated.
Late reply... I think that particular night there was a servers-wide bug that prevented any spells from being cast (my group in PoN wiped, no heals, evac, etc). However, we just last weekend went down to the castle area and killed several of these without issue. The spirits are easier to kill with a standard (tank, cleric, enc + dps) group than the constructs or gargoyles in the same area.
Took my Dwarf Cleric here today, and dropped down the Hole from paineel with Divine Aura up. The Guardian was up, and conned indif to me, but killed me when I tried the Seal. When I dropped down again to res my corpse, and try to scout the way out from there, I ran into a mob called a Stone Ward, which seems to be either an undead mob, or NOT on Brell faction, as he killed me straight away with out me ever getting a good look at him. Has anyone else ever seen this mob?
LOL I did the same thing. In my low 40's I accidently fell off the side and hit the bottom of the pit with the expected 10k damage and got a free trip to my bind. Not being discouraged and being too cheap to buy the key I went off the edge again with DMF and popped off Harmshield right before I zoned. Landed and instantly got attacked, me being a DE necro, in the middle of trying to loot first corpse. Another trip to bind.
Round 3
Dropped back down, again, and was able to get Feign Death off after harmshield dropped after being attacked to half hp. Looted the second corpse while the Guardian AND Stone Ward were out of aggro taking a little more damage. Went for the orginal corpse and got attacked again but this time FD failed twice on me, back to bind point, again.
Round 4
Bought 2 coffins, squeezed through crack in pool, and paid a friendly cleric 100p for 2 96 rezzs at the zoneline and haven't been back since lol.
So yes I have seen the Stone Ward but between both of them attacking me, trips to bind, and alot of wasted time and effort over trying to save 150p all I can report is he does exist and he definetly doesn't like DE Necros.
Hey all can someone tell me how to get the key to the hole entrance in the Grotto near the warrens? In the EQ Atlas site it says that it can be purchased in Paineel but doesn't say where or from whom. So, if some kind soul would give me that information I would love to check out that zone. Being a level 54 Necro with very nice faction in Paineel proper I should be able to at least check it out without too much difficulty. I am in a high level guild so could take a few of them with me and just scout around some. Thanks for the info.
Antiaethise Shadowwolf 54 DE Necromancer Dragon Lords Guild
Just squeeze through the rocks at the bottom of the pool. With EB effect of DMF it shouldn't be a problem I've done it with my DE Necro many times it just takes a few tries to get through.
You don't really need a key. Just shrink yourself twice, or get some freindly Shammy or Beastie to shrink you, and then you can squeeze through the crack at the upper right of the locked door.
Sure ... firs thing to do is Consider the skele guards in the newbie area there .. the little field.
If your faction is above Dubious, then you can go into Paineel city and see the merchant there in the Superior Supply store (the woman in there) and buy your key for ~150pp
Even if you are not KOS in Paineel, the merchants won't sell to you, like ALL merchants, if you don't have decent faction.
To get faction, slaughter Kobolds in The Warrens for several days. The King, Prince and Priest are great faction, so kill them as soon as they pop.
EDIT: The key is a BAG

If I remember correctly from leveling my erudite enchanter in the Warrens for several seasons, you have to have at least indifferent faction to get the key to the city from the skeleton guard. I think I got my base to dubious and then cast Alliance to get to indif, and was able to get the key.

You only live once, but once is enough if you do it right.
No you dont have to kill Caradon (a PAL mob if I recall correctly). You give him the key and he spawns Kyrenna and they both attack you (F treacherous Pallys). Pull down hall a bit and FD. Caradon wanders back to his cell, Kyrenna sticks to you. Fd flop her out of Jail to courtyard or the stairs and kill her for your epic piece.
This leaves Caradon up for the next SK who needs to do the turn in. If for some reason you do kill him, I am hearing he is on a 2 day respawn cycle in the revamped Hole.
Also the mimics are gone, the key dropping mobs are still chests in the same bank area, but a hair tougher and seem to have similar drop patterns (1 key per 3 to 5 chest kills).
well i know yesterday, me(61 druid), 65(druid), 65(pally), and 65(rogue) went through killing in this zone. Not that bad as long as you dont get too many adds. we did end up dying, due do too many adds at one time. but we took out the enchanter epic mob, we stopped after we died and rogue pulled our corpses back to zi and pally rezed us. but we are planning on going back and going after bigger mobs.
also The crazed guy was on my track the whole time too, and we were trying to work our way too him when slipped up and got adds.
With all of the talk about how much harder the epic raid zones are now, I wanted to let everyone know that a typical 3 group raid with an average level of 51 CAN still successfully raid the Hole and kill Jaeil the Insane for the Ranger epic drop.
On Tues 10/14/03 the Union of Heroes Alliance on the Seventh Hammer successfully raided the "new" Ruines of Old Paineel and secured for Danian Trackmore his Soulbound Hammer.
The raiding party had an average level of 51, ranging from a high of 62 to a low of 43 (two of our three clerics btw). Our main tank was a 51 Warrior. In addition to these 4 had a couple of shammans and druids, one of each int class except enchanter, with the rest of the party consisting of various melees (War, Mnk, SK, Rng).
We killed a total of 77 Mobs including various Elementals, Spirits, Ratmen, Gargoyles, Constructs and of course Jaeil the Insane. We suffered a total of four deaths in our party; one to a construct that poped literaly right on top of our middle cleric, one to a gargoyle, and two to a construct that poped during the Jaeil fight. The entire raid from zone in to port out took about 2 1/2 hours but we wasted about 1/2 hour at the begining when we started in the wrong way (we crossed the first bridge into the castle instead of going down and left to the castle courtyard.)
I hope this gives all of you the confidence to know that you can still do your epic quests dispite the "new" revamped zones. It does take a good raiding party with people that know what they are doing. But you don't need 30 level 65 characters. You can do it with a standard 3 group raid of low 50s.
Does his loot still exist? Does it drop from anything inthe Hole or anywhere else? Also, could I get to new Kirn with 65 sham, 65 SK (me), 65 chanter, and 65 Cleric?
He is in the building holding the "epic mobs" now since revamp. That is the big building south of the entrance of the tunnel leading to the ranger epic mob (Jaesomething the Wretched).
You can find Ghost of Kindle there nowadays now too.
Would also like to see Kyrenna on the mob list and some information on her battle. I have heard conflicting stories that you need to kill Caradon as well as her, but would rather not kill him if he is not needed. I have heard that She is a lvl 55 cleric and is Immune from any spells. Heard also that she is the only one that drops anything not Caradon. She drops the SK epic items Blood of Kyrenna and Heart of Kyrenna. Could we get a Screenshot of her and a forum for her as well? Thank you:)
Editing to reflect would also like to see any information on the mimic to get the cell key for the fore mentioned Caradon. Yes, I am researching for the SK epic Innoruuks Curse. Thank you again for any helpful information that can be posted on these mobs.
Is the ratmen guard a roamer now because i see alot of ratmen inhabitants wandering around. Someone mentioned inhabitants were place holders for him so does that mean just kill them and he will pop as wanderer? Ive been looking for the bugger forever and no luck.
Just went into the Hole last night. Two groups, level 58 ave (I am a level 55 Chanter). After just going down a bit, most of the mobs con RED to me. Could not land a slow/cripple spell. Needless to say, our two groups got our clocks cleaned. A Guild of mostly 65s passed us (and also rezzed us too). They seem to be doing well (but still toons were dieing). The Hole was a hard place, now...not forsure if I will be able to do my Epic.
We were there a few days ago with 4 groups average level 50 or so. We took down Jaelil the Insane, The Ghost of Kindle, and the Ratman Guard for 3 epic pieces.
We were challenged at times, but our large numbers saved our butts. We had to rez 7 people once.
The Hole is still doable at lower levels, you just need a lot of people to pull it off.
Anyone know anything about him? My guild went down and killed the Guardian and in his room up on a rock is a huge gargoyle called Dormant Watcher. You can target him and he is con blue to 63 but you can't engage him at all. Spells all said you can not see your target..bow and arrows can't see, pets can't reach, nothing. Can't find any write ups on him. Not even listed here as friend or foe. Is he one that is yet undifined purpose? Just wondering.
There is a small section with low level undeads called "a citybound spirit". Decent drop rate of the old Withered leather stuff; 1-2 pieces per clearing of the small area (a total of 11 ghosts). Their area is located in the 1st building, through the grate underwater, which is now unlocked. Cleared these 4 times so far looking for Kindle but no luck thus far.
After you've worked your way through the city, just before you enter the tunnel that goes down to the undead tower, there is a building on the left that leads to an open courtyard with another building. Tzitzi is in that inner building, traveling a circular route around the hallways. Here's the location of Tzitzi the crazed in a previous post. are there any other "directions" or another explanation of location?

We took a couple groups down simply to see what changes there had been here...
Basically The Hole is now filled with a bunch of cool-looking steel golems (constructs) and there's a new big steel guy down at the bottom (lvl 70)...we only had 10 people by the time we got down to him, so we didn't engage :)
We will be going back though :)

Just killed a Keeper Of The Seal with a bucnch of guildies. Hit for about 1200max without defensive. Pretty easy with 14 of us. dropped a earring/mantle and the quest tome
Nice how they are making the epic quests harder, but not making them any better.... heck, it's hard enough to get that stupid emeral in hate.. glad I already have my swifty.. I dunno if i would have the heart to do it if both Com and Hole are any tougher than they were for me and my guild when we were all in our low 50's and upper 40's.. And if they want people to hold off till higher levels, the Epics need to be drastically improved.. they reall are sub-par comnpared to even much of the gear coming out of vex thal, let alone PoP....

most people will never even see Vex Thal, nor need to. Gear coming from plain old Velious is better than epics. Drops from PoP zones are only uncommon (as opposed to rare), but even those arent the easiest to get. Stuff from the new Droga zone, from the new pocket zones Sol C/Char B are easily better than Earthcaller, at least for DPS wise if not for stats. Earthcaller has become a utility blade for soloing rangers for all practical purposes, to be swapped out as soon as it procs slow. Its sad really.
There's actually two new quests, which start off differently but might ultimately become the same quest. There is a new erudite, named Protector of the Ruins, who admits in a long story that he was responsible for creating the new mobs in the zone and they are responsible for killing Yael and his elementals. Behind the erudite are three portals, one goes to new Paineel, one goes to Erudin jails, and another goes to Neriak. He says if he could get his "tome of research" and his missing spell pages, he could put a book/spell back together to get himself out of The Hole, and would pass along the book/spell to you. Then he gives you a 4 slot container. Now, from what he said in his story, the new boss mob that "killed Yael", named Guardian of the Seal, has the tome of research. This guy is a large black reaver clone that stands in front of Yael's old spot and cons indifferent. He has two gargoyle buddies, also con indifferent, that are unmezzable and unlullable, as well as being seemingly soulbound to the Guardian, which means you need a 3 grp raid force at least to add tank the gargoyles and then finish off the Guardian. Gargoyles are pretty easy, seem to be wizards, but con blue at 65. The Guardian is red at 65, hits for a maximum of 980, and may be slowable.
Now, the other quest I spoke of involves a gnome named Pellio Cogswin, or something similar. He and his brothers came to The Hole to find out what was going on recently, and they found a spell on a dead elemental. They fought over what to do with the spell, and it was torn in half. Pellio gives you two letters and asks that you seek out his brothers, Tani and Stiggle. None of these Cogswin brothers have anything to do with the one in PoK, they have the same last name but are unrelated quests. Tani has been located near the Bridgekeeper in Chardok, and after you hand him his letter, he says his spell page was stolen by the chardok Queen and given to Historian Selrin, who may have given it to the Prince, or else the Historian will be in Chardok library. As for the 2nd brother, Stiggle, he is as of yet undiscovered. My guess is you take the spell pages, the Tome from the Guardian, and combine them in the Protector's container to get a purecaster only spellbook or a new spell, which may have something to do with new portals.
I got the quest yesterday, Stiggle should be in Dragon Necropolis, this is what the Gnome in the hole said (Something about Dargon graveyard with Phase Spiders). But i don't know where in DE! Anybody saw him?
Just went to try and kill the ghost of kindle, and I can assure you this zone is harder. Took a 65 war, 65 cleric, 65 chanter (me), 65 monk, 61 rogue, and 62 druid. first try we had to evac, cleric oom. Second try we had 3 deaths, evac. Reaching the base of the undead tower was still doable, however the new construct mobs are almost entirely magic resistant and are unmezzable. there are three who wander, and way too many mobs to deal with. anyone know is if the quest mobs have been moved to new areas? I hope so or sony just screwed me over good.
Well it appears that they have moved Kindle. We cleared down to the tower on Tuesday and one of our trackers saw Kirn on track back in the town area. We cleared up to where Kindle usually is and saw just 3 of the new ghost guys in there. We then evacced and cleared all around with trackers constantly looking for kindle and never saw Kindle on track. Not sure where kindle is but anyone who finds her please post it. On the other hand the SK epic mob Ghost of Glohnor was still spawning down by the tower.
i went in here with a lvl 1 rogue and i found a ground spawn which was called deep soil i have never seen this before but maybe it has to do with the rare dirt of brell that also drops here.
Does anyone know where you can find a key for a door IN the hole. I can squeeze into the hole past the rocks in that pool but once inside, if you jump down to a point of no return, you either need a rogue, wizard, or druid or find a key. Anyone know where to find that key or is it the same key you can buy at a vender in Paineel by the bank???
The key to the Hole is only bought in Paineel. It's no drop and it costs about 250pp. In order to get faction in Paineel, clear the Warrens zone a few times. That zone is located in the Paineel newbie zone. In the room before the stairs to the pool, hang a left to enter Warrens.
Not sure but when i was fighting around the jails there is a prisoner in there that said he would give up her location if you gave him a key to escape. Really dont know never found a key.
