Since the revamp, these mobs no longer spawn and should go to the mob graveyard:

'a crimson destroyer'
'a jade warden'
'Elven Dancer'
'a molten warden'
'a pearl destroyer'
'a Lava Drake'
'a Deadly Lava Drake'
'a Malicious Lava Drake'
'Guardian Wurm'
'a Cruel Racnar'
'a Feral Racnar'
'an Acolyte of Veeshan'
'a Furious Guardian Wurm'
'an Enraged Guardian Wurm'

These all seem to have been removed at the last revamp of the zone, the one that introduced the new keying method involving Suled'Dar. Thanks.

EDIT: Added more mobs for the list that no longer spawn in VP

--All wyverns in the zone can proc Achilles Bite or Wyvern Flash on their targets.

--The mob 'an onyx skywing' (lev unknown, probably same as other normal skywings in zone) procs Torrent of Veeshan on targets. It is approx level 61.

--'a lava basilisk' uses Basilisk Screech on targets.

--'an ash basilisk' was seen when pulling some lava basilisks. It did not act any differant, did not con otherwise differant, nor did it drop anything special as compared to other basilisks.

--'a frenzied racnor' can use the effect Tail Wrack on targets.

--ALL 'Flame' wurm models ('a mature flame protector', 'an elder flame protector') use Flame Wurm Breath and occasionally use Flame Wurm Blessing on themselves.

--ALL 'Frost' wurm models ('a mature frost protector', 'an elder frost protector'), use Frost Wurm Breath and occasionally use Frost Wurm Blessing on themselves.

--'a primeval cinder skywing' uses the effect Cinder Toxin.

--'a primeval onyx skywing' uses the effect Onyx Darkness.

--'a primeval chromatic skywing' uses the effect Chromatic Subversion.

--all mobs have the potential to drop LDON-style type 7 augments of the +6 variety, as well as the +12 HP/Mana augs. They seem to drop more frequently from the primeval and elder mobs. There is a chance of several random loot items from any mob in the zone also.

'primeval' skywings and 'elder' protectors (wurms), as well as elder wyverns, generally spawn in the last few feet of a passage leading to a dragon's home area, right before the mobs turn into 'a Guardian of XXXX' (insert Dragon name). They hit harder, faster, and are extremely resistant to spells. They seem to be in the 65-66ish range, possibly a bit higher. They are blue to 70.

This zone gives very good XP, higher than elemental. If you have the right mix of classes (buffers for whatever buffs you want, as you get dispelled frequently), you can really plot a path of destruction through the zone and XP well. Happy hunting.

There's a mob in South Qeynos, a tax collector named Vicus Nonad. He's on the 2nd floor of a building. He's easy faction, but it'll take you a couple of days to get your faction max ally with RoS. If you're a pet class, you could probably AFK after becoming KOS to him and your pet would do all the work for you...of course, that's also a technical violation of Sony's policies, but I dunno anything...

After having finaly obtained my VP key , and getting my faction to dubious , i was eager to take a little trip thru the zone to check it out. Noting there are several exits out of VP to E. Freeport -plane of sky - skyfire - I decided to work my way to the skyfire exit. As i approched the exitway , i noticed a lava moat , and a drawbridge in the up position. Not seeing any particular way to lower it , I decided i would just levitate across the moat. Sure enough , the basilisks in the lava followed me out of the lava to the other side and got me. I had at least 2 chew me up - a lava basilisk , and an ash basilisk. The Lava Basilisk was dk bloo to me at 66 , and the Ash Basilisk was yellow to me. They hit hard and fast enough to devour HP very fast.

After making my way back to the drawbridge, naked, i still cannot find a way to lower this drawbride. I would be careful venturing to this area. While you may not be KoS to the dragons, you will be to these guys. Oh , and, does anyone know how to lower the drawbridge?

Confirmed the lava and Ash basilisks. I only saw one Ash Basilisk, which was yellow to me at 65, was near one of the drawbridges leading to Xygoz or Nexona I think. They just look like giant versions of Basilisks you'd see in Lavastorm. They wander in the lava, and sound like a person running when they move. Kos, they might be on minions of scale faction as opposed to ring of scale (I'm kos to minions and ally to ring). lava basilisk hit for I think between 500 and 700. I didn't really want to find out what the Ash one hit for.

Also: an ash basilisk (yellow at 65) also kos and hide near drawbridges too..

I honestly find it hard to believe that they would make a kunark zone harder than Time, it sounds like the key is easier to get than the time key, they should fix the glitches in the game, and the problems they are already having before making more additions to the game imo, but thats just me, i honestly cant wait to get in here and check it out!

Well, after catering to the uber guild ever since PoP came out I for one am very happy that they revamped this zone with loot on par with the elemental planes where a single person with the help of one or two guild raids can get some decent loot in either solo or with a single group. Consideri EP and Time "head-starts" for some and VP a way for those of us who want to avoid the bullsh*t of uber guilds to catch up. Besides, uber guilds could give a sh*t about EP-level zones anymore. They spend all thier time in GoD zones and soon will spend them in OoW zones. Finally, sony did something for the rest of us to keep our interest in the game.

The new VP is not even close to Time level difficulty. It's on par with elemental encounters and even that can be a questionable comparison when looking at mobs like Reparm or Blazzax. Heck, even Ofassaa can be more difficult than the mobs in the new VP.
Slight overview
# Jul 15 2004 at 1:11 AM Rating: Excellent
9 posts
Quick overview of new key quest if you have the original key. First you have to locate 4 orbs placed around skyfire. Then you need to click each one. Once all 4 are clicked a zone wide message will appear and you will pop a uber dragon, extremely hard. For a good overview check out the skyfire forums. There is a few things left out, but this is definitely a fun fight, extremely challanging too. Once you kill him, about 10 chests spawn each containing multiple books. I have heard that it is around 45 total. Each person loots a book, runs over to Dry Separa at the entrance to VP, gives her the book, and she will give you back blood. If you scout close around VP ull find a drake guarded by 6 kos (1 see invis) guards. They are pretty much bound to their locations. If you try and pull them any distance away they will just repop at same spots. They hit for about 900 a piece. What I did was I just ran right in and said the key words "I would like to help" if i remember correctly and ran off. With these words he gives you a bag. In the bag combine your old VP key with the blood. This will weild you the new VP key which is also a 30hp/mana/end augmentation. Click into VP to add it to ur keyring (yes they added a zone out too, the garg by entrance). Mobs are extremely buffed up in VP now. Most trash mobs AE 750dd and 1spot dispell, so make sure you bring insta buff items. Most mobs also hit for 800-1k dmg. Also ALL wanderers see SoS. So us rogues dont have the opportunity to wander around or we will be dead pretty fast. Hope this helps, will share more information if I can find a raid to adventure in. I saw a lot of uber instabuff/nearly instabuff items... Probably some one of the best effect/cast times ive seen on items.

All the work it takes to get here, and there are only 7 Druid usable items in the zone, 6 if your halfling. Of those 7, 5 are all/all. I am by no means uber, but I would only bid on 2 items if I were raiding here. Compared to all the clickies and procs for all other classes(didn't see many ranger items either), I will only do this key so I can kill dragons on raids, but I am in no hurry to head there.

2) everyone zones in and goes to the safe spot

4) a cleric who did NOT die on the inside and who did NOT come into VP with the raid rezes all back to the outside.

Recently our guild has started obtaining keys. Simply for the challenge it will present us to do something new. Yes most of the loot is very outdated and there are better weapons and armor from Velious, Luclin and PoP, but for us we just want to do it.

We went in with 13 the other day, pulled Silverwing, resisted most of her stuff but she got us in the end. We'll try her again with 18 or 24.

There's always the chance they will update the loot too!

Ive been playing EQ off and on for last 2years now. Ever Since I started EQ and heard about the dragons way way back when I was fighting rats ( funny - i'm back fighting rats now in pop =/ go figure) anyway... I read everything I could get my hands on behind the legacy of Kerafyrm?? typo maybe << aka sleeper and I gotta tell you above all else on this realm we call life day in day out, ST and the mystery behind the 4 warders and not being able to kill kerafyrm has forever been my ultimate goal. Don't laugh, I know I can't do crap right now, but before I end this game I will be on at least one lengthy raid into ST to try to solve this. need be lvl80 by that time I'll still not stop. Above plane of time - and the connection to karana locked in wait all of the PFFFT - doesn't do jack for me, kerefyrm is the last great mystery and unsolved and maybe never solved quest. And it is a quest I assure you, no one in their right mind would make a mob that cannot be controlled via tactics or masses w out it being quest related. I guarantee you all, there is a missed step somewhere out there, maybe its been overlook maybe not discovered yet, but it is there. Find the missing piece and that will truely be END GAME. Anyway, I just wanted to drop my 2CP worth like everyone else, but its food for though guys/gals -- theres a reason hes not been killed ok, and one time guild found a pathing issue, not bug, pathing issue and would have owned him and GM's stopped battle and removed them for what they knew. We all use pathing guys, PON/POD/POJ first came out everyone owned mobs from pathing problems, so why when a guild exploits it on sleeper GM deletes /who all ST, and not all the 65 ubers that raped the "bugs" when POP came out???? ask yourself you'll see the reason if you think hard about it bud.

People get banned for exploits all the time. Just when a whole guild exploits one of the toughest mobs in the game, it tends to turn heads faster.

As for lore, another little tidbit of info is the sword that Lord Inquisitor Seru drops... it's none/none, and while the game reason he drops it is because it enables him to break the NPC melee damage cap, the name of it (Sword of Truth or something similar) is still important. Lore goes that the Combine empire was working hard to forge a weapon capable of killing the Sleeper. The sword Seru drops IS that sword. Highly doubt there's any actual quest-based reason for it. Never know, though, considering Sony revamped ST and fiddled with Kerafym not long after Luclin came out. Around the time that Lord Seru was made killable, I believe. (The only way to kill him when Luclin first came out was to exploit him, hence the Something of Sad Exploitation item he dropped.)

I noticed someone posted info on Jaled Dar's shade in DN. Well Jaled Dar's Shade is the Ghost of THE most powerful dragon to ever Roam Norrath. He was Slain By Emperor Ghranak ( the Guy for the seb and VP key). And came back from the dead for revenge or something or other but thats why he is there. If you hail the Emporor he addresses himself as the Slayer of Jaled Dar.

im a player that wants to experience every aspect of the game, from Acrylia Caverns to WesternWastes and everything inbetween, but i have to say this zone is now OBSOLETE.

lets talk risk versus reward.... but first a quote, taken from EQATLAS.COM:

Dangers
Veeshan's Peak is one of the hardest zones to exist in Everquest. Here is Verant's official statement regarding the Peak:

We recommend that only the most advanced and organized players in the game even attempt to enter this zone. The customer service staff (GMs and Guides) will not assist players in any way in regards to this zone. This includes help for issues such as unrecoverable corpses (see your local Necromancer), or characters finding themselves stuck (see your local Magician), bugs, etc. The only assistance that will be offered by customer service reps in this zone are those covered by the Play Nice Policies.

- Gordon

Teleport spells of every type (i.e. Gate and Evac) will not function within the zone, and that the only way to exit the zone is to fight your way through it to the exit area.

enough said there..... looking at the drops from this zone, in terms of risk vs. reward this zone just sucks. there are FAR better items that are easily attainable in velious, luclin, and ofcourse the Planes. why the hell would anyone put themselves through all this for a crappy drop?

well, ill do it just to say ive been there, but i highly doubt a second trip will ever be made

First of all, you're whining needlessly. As most things become in this game, VP equipment is largely obsolete. But, that warning of danger IS TOO. Don't worry...

Neurott's source for Gordon's quote.

(VP wasn't even entered until after this date)

If my memory serves, Kunark opened in March of 2000. It was the first expansion to Everquest, when the most elite warriors had about 2500 fully buffed, casters were lucky to have 1500 mana, raids were basic and, although didn't seem so at the time, required very little organization and strategy, and until Sky was introduced, neither encounters nor loot by any means showcased or clearly defined each class in its intended role (Sky wasn't completely conquered until after most of the Kunark "bosses" had been eliminated).
Then, came Kunark. In my opinion the best expansion, ever- period. First of all, merely stepping foot on the boat from Butcherblok to FV took your breath away, then the docks off in the mist coming slowly into focus... I, for one was taken aback. Not to mention the new animations, detailed armors, active cities, crazy in-depth quests...
Most of the epic quests would not be solved in their entirity for months to come. In these months Kunark made it its task to cut and define the coddled and naiive Antonicans, Faydwerians, and Odusians. With massive zones, indoor and outdoor, equally massive enemies, intricately designed dungeons, effects and spells with more class-specific emphasis, arduous multi-zone/multi-continental quests, the basic characteristics of each class and role that had been introduced in the "Old World" were being chisilled down and shaped into what they would become.
Veeshan's Peek required advanced raiding strategies even by Kunark standards. It was very fast-paced fighting, where one vital mistake could cost the raid. It was guided by room/mob placement/wanderers/spawn-times/exits, etc. Everything had to be done near-perfectly. Mob-placement became a more vital issue. You couldn't just be prepared for one type of boss. You had to bring it all in terms of strategy. You *could* camp out at very few spots, but it wasn't like Sky. You couldn't leave any time you wanted. Fight out or die out. The reason I relate it to Sky is that Sky was also very guided, to some extent more structured, but easier because of it.
All of these elements would later be recognized as being perfect introductions to ToV strategy (Scars of Velious - November, 2000). ToV would take us to yet another level in raiding strategy.
The loot for the time was impressive, as well. As we know, with all of Kunark came Weapon/Armor-Effects galore. Even more in VP. And the stats on these items were incredible for the time. Risk v. Reward was virtually flawless. The hardest zone in the game, you get the best stuff. The effect-robes, Azure Sky, Yunnb's, the blade ratios were not matched (again, epics were not completed when VP was conquered, and were only finished being implimented Summer 2000), but with the ratios (13/25, 16/26, 9/16) you had effects and stats? And, not just any inane stats from which the class to use would gain nothing. Needed stats. There were items dropping here with 15+ to multiple stats AND 75+ hp+mana.
Granted, most of the items are now obsolete. However, as are most of the strategies employed. VP can be cleared by 2 groups PoP-equipped with ease in a few hours. When Velious came out, EQ players were spoiled. I won't use the word *easy*, but I will venture to say that Verant may have been "rewarding" us for conquering Kunark.
So, you can do Trak with one group who used to wipe 6, Nagafen can be soloed, and *even you* can (should be able to) solo clear the entirity of Lower Guk. /gasp
But, ignoring the facts that RoK was and will remain to be the best expansion to Everquest ever, SoV was cute and fun and made us happy and lazy again, SoL was one big time-sink (perfect, now that we're lazy again), PoP was just complete and utter (and irreversable) crap in the grandest scale, and finally LoY- "Hi- I'm in LoY..."; ignoring those facts (my word for opinions =P) Neurott, there's no need to rant that Jagged Bands aren't beneficial anymore, or that your Barbed Ringmail is "SO last week!". It's what happens with time... And, it has been over 3 human years since VP was considered to be what Gordon called "...one of the hardest zones to exist in Everquest." Get over it, and try to enjoy the zone for its legacy, perhaps. Best of luck.

Ring of Scale

Okay, I read alot of what everyone had to say and there is a lot of good talk. Seems like you are all pretty knowledgeable even if you don't agree on some thing. But I found that there was no mention of ally faction. Now to my knowledge, there is only one way to increase Ring of Scale Faction (unless you can in ZOnes I haven't been to) But that is to hunt the Agents of Mistmoore in Castle Mistmoore, which begs the question of why does faction go up for killing them, when Mayoog supposedly imprisoned Vox's and Naggy's baby. Anyway, my point is, if you killed enought Inky's in MM, and went into Veeshan's Peak, does anyone know if maybe that maybe part of the zone's purpose. Much like in the ToV. Increasing faction, getting Armor quests, etc etc. Just something I was thinking about one day. I mean if everything has a point and your can improve Ring Of Scale faction, there has to be a reason. Maybe something we can discuss. Either way, it will give you all something to think about. But let me tell you, I have killed lots and lots of Agents of MM in MM and I am still KOS to the Mobs in Skyfire who are on RoS faction (at least if I remember correctly). Anyway, just thought I would throw the thought out there for you all to see what you thought.

Much like Temple of Veeshan and Claws of Veeshan, not all mobs in Veeshan's Peak are on Ring of Scale faction. The nameds all are, but the "yard trash" mobs are KOS to all.

Since they will aggro on you shortly after entering (unlike ToV), there isn't any way to get in and do quests with the Ring of Scale dragons in Veeshan's Peak.

Just to let you know, the Sleeper doesn't go to DN to kill Jaled, he goes to Skyshrine to kill Yelinak. Yelinak is a lvl 70 dragon and the sleeper WASTES him very quickly.
