I started coming here with an alt after they made it a hotzone and it can get kind of hairy. I play my 46 War with a T5 healer merc and though it is fairly easy to handle the mobs at the zone in, going a little deeper in can get messy. I don't see anyone else in the zone so most of the time rooms are populated with several mobs and in the close quarters, they all aggro. Your best bet is to have a character that can pacify or mez in order to make life here easier. If you'd rather solo, just try to be cautious and keep an eye out for wanderers, they are all over the place.
We had TWO of these up when we reached the spwn loc. We had a single group of 70bst, 66bst(me), 70shaman, 58clr, 70 druid, and a 58warrior. Both came when we pulled, I tanked one with all pets, and players assisting except 70druid/70bst who oftanked other while we beat first down. I ahve baz gear, and it is crummy at best. 5.4khp WITH Steeloak, and 70 shammy buffed ~1100AC, max hit was 919.
Easy fight, even with both, for a group of 65+ in elemental gear.

I am a 50 cleric that has not had too much difficulty soloing here. You have to be extra careful when pulling. If you get 2 mobs on you your better off getting out if your around 50. If you can pull one at a time, this place is great for a Cleric. Lot's of undead, decent loot, close to pok portal. Highly recomended for the soloist..
"Where he walked... the ground stood still... waiting for him to pass over it... Where he walked the armour stopped its jingle, and the men of battle all cheered... For the spirits walk with the Shaman, and the Shaman walks with us all."
They're on a timer and in fixed locations. Got three keys for people at the weekend and the spawns were back by the time we finished the crawl through the dungeon for the previous key.
Don't have locations, unfortunately, but if you clear the dungeon you'll find them.
Key goes on the key-ring when used, which is handy... no need to carry it around with you.
Hamal Skeleton, helot spectre and other rare mobs come out of the east door, stay for a minute and walk back in just to tempt you to fall in the pit trap. You can pull them into the patio to do them.
New quest Npc up at the North wing boss door today (Wed Sep 15) Post OoW patch Looks like a necro's spec pet...was indifferent. Sorry no screen shot
[Wed Sep 15 07:37:12 2004] You say, 'Hail, Ghost of Mera'
Ghost of Mera says 'What? Oh, hello. You're . . . you're alive, aren't you. I'm dead, I think. Why can't I leave here? I need to be free so I can continue my [work]. Oh, but I'm dead, I can't.'
You say, 'what work?'
Ghost of Mera says 'My work . . . I was working with sound, I remember that. I remember hearing all of the wonderful noise that the stones make in the wind. I think I found the perfect sound, but then they killed me. A sacrifice, I think. That makes me sad. I do have one happiness, though. I know the perfect sound. I just wish I could have saved it so that others could hear it. If only they hadn't broken my jars.'
Couldn't get any other info outta it after trying various phrases.
This guy is a bit of a pain for the soloist. He keeps him self in a room with other mobs and appears in any of the rooms in the north wing.
Now if you decide to clear the room out first he will aggro no matter wht you attack. If you attack him in the room the others will attack if you dot him he just summons you into the full room.
Solution pull him with a spell that does no dmage. i used screaming terror and sure enough out he came when it wore off and no company with him.
He was carrying a blood point is why he procced 80hp lifetap. He doesn't always have it, so he probably won't proc too often. Look for a "pierces you" message when he attacks.
Having never been to HS, how do you exit from the zone? Port/trans? Same as entering? Just obtained the key and would like to go, but not if exit is not the same.
You do need a port of some kind to exit HS. you can get port potions in the bazaar, OT hammer, or Thurg vial. Many fun ways to quest port effect items.
You have 2 port-outs in HS : 1 in the south wing, after the keyholder's room, and one after Drusella. They will port you at the entrance of the temple, down the chasm in Overthere, among the Skorpikis :)
was wondering if alot of poeple hunt here since the revamp? or is it still a dead zone most of the time. I need a drop from there but dont have any guild back up. I was hopping to camp out in there and hoppfuly loot the drop from some group that didnt want it, since its useless to any one not doing green mist. any info would be nice thanks
Yeah, we take groups there a lot for XP, fun and twink gear: though there are still a couple of drops in the zone that would be upgrades for my main character. Cleared the dungeon four times last weekend, for example.
His faction is insanely hard to correct, I have looked it up, and it seems to me the only way to do it is through killing members of the Ring of Scale. Regular mobs do not fix faction, it seems that only the high level dragons will fix faction. So it's very hard to not be KOS in Charsis or Overthere.
He is asking how far he can go (inside Charasis) with maxed faction (that he says he has), not the rigors of correcting it...
If you are of the evil variety, you can raise VS faction thru the Sarnak War Braid quest. So, it's much easier for evil folks to be non-KOS in OT (not necessarily Charasis) than for good folks.
I don't think even with maxed VS faction you could get too far inside Charasis without something attacking you. Various critters (undead, goos, etc) aren't on VS faction to begin with and a lot of creatures that are on VS faction are also on DS faction, and there doesn't seem to be anyway to raise Drusella Sathir faction. So, if I was a betting man, I'd say you'd be KOS inside (Charasis) regardless of VS faction. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't really know as I have never had maxed Venril Sathir faction with any of my characters.

How would a 65 paladin do in here? Decent gear, mostly ornate with about 5.5k hp and 1.4k ac self buffed and a windblade as weapon. Could I own most of the crap or would it be it pretty tough?
i use to hunt in HS with a few friends. its not that easy. well depending where youd want to go. the north and west wings are pretty easy. but once you get to the south and east it gets tougher. even with paci pulls and what not you would probly go slowly and wouldnt be worth the time. and a CR is a biosh in there, unless you get a summon. so i would say its probly not to safe unless you want to hunt the easier wings for the useless loots that always drop from the mobs.
Haven't been to HS since revamp, but even before revamp I think you'd have a tough time getting anywhere past early North Wing... How's your AA? If you have full defensive/healing, and SU3 especially with full Fury/Ferocity you'd do a bit better. You'd be able to single pull most things in halls, etc but breaking named rooms even with Pacify could cause problems... The xp would be mediocre and loot would potentially be less than.
I used to tag a long while Bard/Chanter-bot friend duo'd the zone for Drusella. Bard could have done it solo, all but the GFlux to East Wing shortcut, but chanter made it much easier. He was the second best bard on the server with 200+aa at the time, and this was at the end of Luclin. I was really just some minor DPS, heals, and conversation.
So, you may or may not do well largely depending on your skills. It's a great zone though, and fun regardless. Best of luck

The Crypt Wurm, new mob? Estimate level 55 Dropped the rogue 1hs with dooming darkness Hits for max of 215 fair amount of hitpoints, found him in west wing, near the west wing boss spawn
My group of 4, have been camping for our master key for some time now... we usually make it to the south wing and wipe out so have to start over. Last time we wiped out.. we started over and have been sitting at The Crypt Keepers room for about 3 days and no sign of him yet. We have cleared the floor several times and just no sign of this dastardly fellow. Can't imagine what we could be doing wrong, if anything, we've never had trouble getting him to pop except the last two times. Hints, ideas? No.. we're too stubborn to give up! :)
I was soloing in North wing this evening and came across a named bile. Was called "Sentient Bile." Dark blue at 65, summons, casts an 80-pt lifetap. Quads in the 200 range, and is fairly fast. I had my force shield up in the beginning of the fight, and noticed no HT. Aside from the LT, I noticed no other spells being cast, leading me to believe that its either a warrior or shadow knight. It was spawned on the far north room, behind the locked door, next to the teleporter to send you back to the zone in. I ended up gating out when the summon was too frequent for me to get a harvest off, and have no data on its drops. I'll post again if I can kill it.

Yes I found this as well, except it was in the north wing room with the sacrificial robe clasp ground spawn (it was the spawn opposite it). That 80 point lifetap you are referring to is actually the proc off of the Blood Point, which I got when I killed this. It was either over 60 or flagged as unstunnable as force of akilae would not land on it, and while it did hit for over 200, it did not have many HP.
My friend Jebra shared this with me. I hope that others find it just as helpful as I have. The map shows location of the ground spawns for the individual key parts needed for the master key as well as PH's for key mobs. A very good walk thru. I am still cking it out however so will try to post any discrepancies that I find.
Sentient Bile is dark blue to 62. Freak hits for a high of 215, doubles and triples, is not undead and summons.
I let pet tank him as I was doing hp transfers, and had to step in and let it beat on me so pet could heal up. This guy surprised me. Necros, make sure to dot this guy or he will own your LOZ.
Can anyone confirm or deny that the master key is attainable without a rogue unlocking doors? I've read somewhere that the groundspawns are in lockpick-only doors.
Also, what power has been used to take out Drusella. Solo? What classes, etc?
As a 65 sknight, I can easily solo the bottom and north wing, but didn't find anything in the hour or so I spent doing this that granted access to other wings.
You get the other ground spawns that open the doors that contain the parts of the master keys.
They are the 1 charge spell, no rent items. Same kind as the no rent wing keys.
So you can do it all without a rogue, just takes time to work your way from N, W, S, E..
Dru is difficult without pacify or very patient fd pulling from her room.. and with many wandering mobs in the hall, would take good timing. She hits in the mid 200's and has a pet always. Most the mobs in East wing hit in high 100's and 200 for the mort golems. all Named hit over 200 and the Mort Protector like 336 top hit.
I haven't gone against Drusella yet, but when I was there last night, I was easily going through the north wing like a hot knife through warm butter (boxing 65 warrior, shammy, chanter & rogue just to open doors). My enchanter started off the wing pacifying, but toward the end of the wing, it wasn't worth the time and I would just pull multies. By the time I got around to the south wing, I was back to pacifying. Moving through the east wing, chanter was the busiest of all my guys mezzing all the adds. You have to keep moving otherwise, the backspawn will catch up with you. Somehow the rogue lost his Shroud of Stealth and promptly died early on the east wing. So, I can confirm that once you get to the east wing, you can open the doors. I already had the ground spawn from the other three wings and those could have also been keys for some of the doors, but I'd tend to doubt it.
I saw something on another site about since the revamp that Venril is a spawnable mob in the north wing, has anyone else heard this? Or seen him there even?
Venril Sathir is spawned in HS for the last fight of the Shaman Skull Quest #8. It is not the same version of VS as in KC, and the quest is far too long to do just to spawn an imposter. The quest is, on the other hand, more or less the Iksar shaman mini-epic and is very worth it if you are not KoS or are willing to put the time in. Of course having Avatar is cooler but this is mana free, reagentless, and you don't have to be level 60.

you need not do the entire quest to trigger him you just need to kill xal...in keasora kruppy in sonh some stupid goblin in FM and any version of vs in KC to have what you need to trigger him look under the 8th crudgel quest you will get full details there and notice you only need faction with scaled mystics(i know i make that part sound so easy).
Having some trouble. Last night we spent about 3-4 hours in North, trying to get a wing boss and key to west. In about 8 or 10 attempts all we got were PH, usually pyre golems but occasionally a goo or sperm. I never spent any time exploring the old HS so trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong or are wing bosses just extremely rare?? Thanks Warble
after you get the candle and enter the north wing there are two locked doors how do you open them. is there a special key and if so who drops it and where are they.
Have spent a lot of time in the revamped HS, thos mobs are not static, all the old named can cycle in the old Static named spots, and they can also be random spawns.
The key holder end mobs are still the same. All parts except the container/Glove from east are tradeable, but LORE.
All named now have a rare NO DROP item, and DS seems to have 3 now. Here loot has now been spread out to the tough named, got Necklace of Superiority from The Undertaker Lord, and Rob of Oblations from The Spectre Spirtualist.
The Urn still seems to be rare drop, got the Mirror again.. bleh
In the basement: The Spectre Sepulcher. From the zone in, drop down, run to the east door, then go south up the ramp. The Spectre Sepulcher was a static spawn on the left at the top of the ramp.
a Howling Spectre - east wing just before the one way picture of VS. HT'd and life tapped for 280 about every 3 hits. Dropped the Burned Bone Bracelet: Magic, Lore, No Drop. 8ac 5cha 8int 35hp 35mana 5cr 5mr 5fr, Nec Wiz Mag Enc.
Also, like Xlitherina said, the Hand of Glory is in fact the master key, after creating it and using it, it was added to my key ring (now to get it for my cleric!). The parts are all ground spawns in each wing. Blood Encrusted Glove, 4 slot container in Dru's room, Dismembered Thumb from west wing, in the hallway near the exit portal room, Dismembered Finger from north wing in the center room with the named, and Mutilated Forearm from the locked room in south wing. Combine forearm, thumb and finger in the glove and viola, Hand of Glory. Sadly it only keys one person and not the entire group.
Could a group of these levels: 55 warrior (me) 50 cleric 50 druid 46 druid 51 shaman
group and exp the entrance in fairly safely? Assuming everyone got Virtue and KEI as a precaution? I just don't want us to pop in and get blown away. That'd ruin a perfectly good evening.
Yeah id say youd be safe, did the zone in with a 54 SK, 55 Necro, and a 52 Shaman back in the day no problem. You got 4 healers, keep the druids on back up heals for yourself, and the shaman should Slow/dot/melee to help with damage output. Know this as I am a 55 Shaman
Ok, I have been using allakazam for about 4 months now, and have never added a post, but after my experience tonight I felt compelled to. I'm a lv 51 necro and was looking for a nice zone that had good xp that I could solo in. After reasarching a bit I decided that charsis would be a good zone for me to solo in. It really never had many people in zone, it was close to pok portals, and it apparently had an abundance of undead for me to kill. So I spent about 3 hrs getting the key, which was np solo at lv 51. Once I got the key I headed to Overthere and went to the zone portal. I touched the zone and zoned in, not knowing what to expect. Once I zoned I found myself in a little square area, kind of like a ring, that had 3 steps leading up to a larger square that went around it, and longer flights of stairs in each of the cardinal directions that had 2 golem mobs each. I imeadetly noticed that there were 2 skelly mobs walking along the outer square, but figured that I was safe at the zone and that the skellys wouldn't aggro on me. So I sat and began to mem my summon spell, and shackle of spirit... the next thing I know I'm hit with a ht for 480ish, and hit about 4 more times for the low 100's and was dead.... NOW I have a problem... My body is in a zone that does not have a safe location near the zone, and there are undead, and non-undead mobs very close to me... great!! So I run nacked back to the zone, and figure I have about 10 secs until one of the skelly mobs aggros on me, so I zone, and immeadetly cast improved invis vs undead on myself... now I have bought myself some time... I realize that I can run around the perimeiter of the square, where the 2 skellys are and not draw aggro from the golems, which is good... but the skellys walk around the perimiter in a seemingly random fasion... sweet, now all I have to do is loot my corpse and gate with out drawing aggro from the skellys... I start dragging my corpse and drag it for a while around the perimiter to watch the movment patterns of the skellys. After about 10 min of just watching them I notice that they sometimes stand together in the same place for about 30 sec at a time... I observe them for a few more min and make my move, I move to the oppisite side of them and begin to loot my corpse, while keeping an eye on them to see if they start to move... all told I looted pieces of my corpse, recast invis, dragged my corpse until I was safe agian and looted a couple more pieces again until my corpse was completley looted. Once that was done, gating was pretty easy. I walked away from this reaching 2 conclusions... 1) this was definitley the most difficult and delicate thing I've ever done while playing eq, and 2) you should never enter a zone for the first time without back up. The morale of this story is simple, if you are a low lv 50 necro class and think this zone may be good for soloing... think agian and just hunt in bw, dulak, or some other zone... this place is definitley for groups only, unless you're a lv 65 with a fair amount of aa....
so the drops are crap - you go to dungeons for the experience. I LOVE Howling Stones, as much now as when I first visited in my early fifties. maybe more, since we can pull trains and survive.
Was wondering if when you zone in if they are undead mobs also if there is a wing that doesnt require a picklock. Would like to solo here im 60 mage with epic.
"It's times like these I wish I'd have listened to what my mother always told me." "Why, what did your mother always tell you?" "I don't know; I wasn't listening."
OK, can anyone tell me more about the Howling Spectre that drops it? I think its in the east wing, but I have no idea what lvl it is. Ne1 know? This is for info for our guild.
From EQAtlas: There is a quest that you must perform to obtain the key to this zone, done through a named Froglok in the Swamp of No Hope. The quest requires that you obtain the Xalgozian Fang from Xalgoz in Kaesora and also the Jade Chokidai Prod from the Chancellor in the Lake of Ill Omen sarnak fortress, and take it to the froglok. Be prepared upon entering, however, as you will be set upon by mostly undead creatures.
Ok what happen if i die in howling stones end im not bind there..i need to start the quest key again in order to get my corps please?...Necro they can solo et lvl 53/54...plz?(if..wich side..?)

An Iksar monk found feigning death on a floor - please do NOT kill this mob, for the sake of monks across Norrath. He effectively 'starts' the quest for the Whistling Fists, giving two items needed: a Tome (when hailed) and an empty bag (when handed Shackle of Tynnonium, which he returns). For the curious.
