Key into the city of Paineel is called Bone Crafted Key, you can get one from the skeleton guards outside in the newbie yard or inside at the bottom of the elevator with amiable Heretics faction.
Kill kobolds in the warrens till your eyes start to bleed. Once you have enough paineel faction for the two skeleton guards in the newbie yard to con better than indif (I think), tell them you lost your key and they'll give you one.
Illusion: Erudite does help, as does faction spells for enchanter or faction song for bards.
Whats up with these guys? Inside the library (Athenaeum Necromantia) There is a very tiny mob called Madness Imp. Con's blue to level 70, hits for max 456 with 12% shielding. When i got it to around 80%, spawned a slightly bigger imp named Madness Imp, hits for around the same, cons blu to level 70. When I got the madness imp further down to around 20%, another Madness Imp spawned. They are on same faction as the rest of Paineel but I figured I'd have a go at him just to see what was up. None of them respond to hails (once agro cleared of course) and none of them despawn after FD and clear agro. I do have screenshots of them together but cant separate them for individual shots. i will look to upload it. Any clues?
I killed about 250-300 Kobolds in the Warrens, then used Mask of Deception and Bard faction song to become Amiable to the newbie area guards. Got Paineel key, went to town and got "Hole Key" which looks like a little bag.
No where near as big a problem for a Bard to get this done.
Actually if you are a rogue it is still very easy to farm the Paineel guards. I do it all the time. That is, as long as you don't care about Paineel faction.
1. You don't need a paineel key, because you can picklock the door open
2. You can sneak/hide past Jerith, so you don't need to worry about aggroing him
3. Even when conned "ready to attack" there are no adds on any of the guards pulls (other then other weak skelly guards) BEFORE the back area where the Capt is. If you hunt the Capt area, you have to be more careful because it can be difficult to single pull the guards, and those guards are much stronger.
4. You can use sneak to sell to merchants and bank, even if kos, so that's not a problem
5. If you die, you can just buy another pick lock to get back to your corpse.
I imagine that this would work well for bards as well. They can use pick lock to get in also, and use invis song to get past Jerith. Hope this helps.

Yenlr Undraie (female erudite) stands near the Stone Hendge place. She's level 65 and when hailed says:
"Ah, I'm pleased to see your interest in helping the Wayfarers Brotherhood, however, I'm not at liberty to discuss the finer details with you. Prove your worth and seek out more knowledge of the path to becoming an adventurer."
My guess, she's the one who starts Paineelian's with their adventure stones.
Anyone know if anyone npc here sees through illusions? I am a troll and instead of waisting my time finding a rog to get in I want to buy the key and was just wondering.
Jerith regards you as an ally -- what would you like your tombstone to say?
Jerith glances at you and smiles, revealing slightly pointed teeth. He is an older dark elf, wrinkles creasing his face. "Yes. What can Jerith do for you?"
People used to farm the undead guards for a quick 13pp each a kill, sometimes they run and if they did they ran almost directly in his path so he'd assist and own any newb trying to farm for money.
Some erudite quest guy next to the warrens entrance is great for skilling up hiit me for 50 max and avg was 19 dmg was dk blue con to 53 ranger also has a mean dd but used it once through out fight ...enjoy this while it lasts Also his spawn time is terrible so don't kill him just zone when he or u get low
Is located in the Necro Guild at 760, 840, on the level below the spell vendors but above ground. She's the one that gives the newbie armor quests (Abattoir Initiate stuff).
Uhhhh im screwed, I was on pvp, and some told me a necro or a wizzard is good for a non twink. it makes sense. Anyways, I make a necro Euridite... errr whatever....
And umm... I could not figure out how to get back into the city. Tried clciking the wall, and using the key on it. ok fine. I think this new guy Jerith is some kind of help, ask him to let me in. Offering him my key, he ATE it!!!
So then I think maybe he is here for people who lose their key, "I lost my key" yaddie yaddie. nope. How the HELL do I get another key?!?!
the noob respawn is on that side of the wall. so I need a key to go back in? and if not, I will not be able to hunt the low lvl area..... ohhh I just remembered, that entry way for the hole.... maybe?
Oh and I thought it was something that came back like all other gear under 10, so i jump to my death.... nope... no key. Oh AND i think its all bugged, the only thing popping are skelle. not a single bat rat or snake.
At any rate, can i get another key?
*** O M G *** !!!! no one is going to believe me, so just try this... I get REAL bored waiting on the GM. So I lifetap Jereth, he resists, he runs after me. I take him to the noob area. And he HT me for 401. I die. the MOMENT I spawn. I see a rat. I go out to hunting area, he is super killing EVERYTHING ! lol. And now its not just skelle. I reset the whole zone. The moment he killed the first mob id assume. and its funny as hell, and im sure I cant kill a single thing now before he does. LAUGH !!!
I went back to paineel for fun guard killing. Noticed that the first guards are amiable to me but those farther in are indifferent. So which one is on heretics faction? If its the easy ones I guess I can keep killing with no worries about becoming kos. If its the hard ones I can keep killing without worrying about dieing and not being able to get another key.
lalala just a happy Paladin killing evil guards for money(I don't seee anything wrong here). Well I had to ask someone to let me in (because I am obviously Kos and unable to get my own key). To make a short story shorter my root broke, guard ran to Jerith, Jerith starts beeting on me I run around and Die. and there my body lays. Moral of the story is kill evil elves.
My Karana following Halfling encountered Jerith after a busy day in Nadox. Fortunately, I was still buffed from battle and was able to elude him with 35% health. I had just zoned from The Warrens when *boom* I took a hit of 401. I didn't bother to look at what hit me, I just ran to Toxx as fast as my hairy feet would go.
As of the 4/23/2003 Patch, Killing Paineel guards to farm their platinum gives negative Paineel faction hits...my guildleader Onino is pretty sad to lose his favorite camp...
negative Heretic faction positive factions to 4 Erudin factions (the caster guilds and one other)
Hubby is ALLY to Heretics, and after killing two guards was still ally, but didn't risk losing faction too badly.
As for Jerith he's NOT KoS solely based on religion (hubby's agnostic like 99.99 percent of enchanters) but rather, as all things, a combination of race (he's a DARK ELF so if you are a halfling or barbarian he's not going to like you as much as a human) religion (he's an SK so worshiping Marr or even being Agnostic isn't going to win you points with him) and reputation (he IS on the Heretic faction, he's ally to hubby now, was amiable when the rest of the town was as well)
The problem with Jerith WAS that with the 4/8 patch the "updated pathing" made guards run toward him, and he assists guards, and certainly isn't worth killing (even if you can) so he got trained to various "safe points" out of the new guard pathing.
But, after the 4/23 patch there's no point. This easter egg (guards which give no faction hit and drop 8 pp each time) has been removed. *sigh* Now have to get 8k pp elsewhere before working on my tradeskill trophy... *groan*
Level 45 Dark elf shadowknight No pet Heals guards if your camping them and your high enough Kills you if your low enough Wont kill agnostics Wont kill people with good paineel faction His text is Jerith curves a wide wrinkly fanged smile "yes what can Jerith do for you"
due to the new spawn of dartain adn some other things i think he will have something to do with the Plane of underfoot key if they ever make the plane playable
yeah, me too! I was happily farming bone chips (DE necro) and i see a fellow DE running around. Figured he was another player (NPCs usually walk unless aggro'd) and took no notice of him.
Suddenly, Jerith whacks you for 401dmg... LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
DE's killing DEs... sad times :(
Was this NPC deliberatly planted in the newbie garden to stop farmers? Is he under some devious GM control to identify them and whack on sight?
Yup, I'll confirm this. I've been to the Warrens time and again with various alts and never had a problem passing thru the Paineel newbie garden...
Untill last night.
I wasn't expecting it. Some guildies were waiting for me at the pool at the paineel/warrens zoneline. I ran thru the garden and all of a sudden **WHAMMO** Dead.
After me, he proceeded to kill a few other players there BUT NOT ALL OF THEM. One of our numbers (we were all in our teens) conned DUBIOUS to him and he was agnostic so he deduced that Jeriths hate must be religion based.
I must have pulled him from the newbie garden, out-running him with SoW, because everyone who died was sitting peacefully untill I arrived... obviously with Jerith in tow.
We had some high level friends take him down and we didnt stick around for that fight.
The merchant that sells the Hole Key is Rallia Hapera at loc p939, p762, n79. When you look at her items for sell the key looks like a bag. That got me confused. She conned amiable to me and offered to sell me the key for 117pp 2gold 6slvr 2cpr. This was off a newly made toon. Btw, the key is No Drop. Hope that this information helps others.
i remember the good ol days when i could come here and actaully make money for once.. yep, everyone would be in rathe killings hgs but the few people that knew about this place would come here probley about what 9 per server i never saw anyone in this zone now thanks to all the "nice" people and there posts theres always some 52+ person camping every guard and the people who knew about this place beofre dont get a plat. yep thats a good way to keep a secret
You are offended that someone posted your "secret" spot for plat hunting?
WTF are you on this website if NOT to find out this kind of information??
Or are you here only to "take" information rather than "share" it.
People like you are the ones that post "where can I find" and "what is the /loc" and "this is monk gear" but never post anything USEFUL.
Everyone that DOESN'T want plat raise their hand.
Everyone that DIDN'T see the "share" in my earlier posts can simply go -blank- themselves.
If you NOTICE there was a -6- MONTH lag between asking a simple question and some nice person saying "yeah, it's good cash." Then _I_ went and checked it out. (Something about "unrecoverable corpse" makes me nervous. Call me chicken. *shrug* But the people who went and checked it out FIRST, like you, took the bigger risk, and got the reward of nice plat for a while.) But you will ALSO NOTICE that _I_ tried things out, and paid for it in blood, exp and LEVEL LOSS. I passed that knowledge, bought -dearly-, to others.
Go cry somewhere else. This website, and these forums, are for SHARING information, not keeping it secret. DUH!!
Sendar Tocs 50 Enchanter (till I get level 51 back, for the 17th [yes virginia, -17th-] time) [NOTE: Soloing as a 51 Enchanter is not so easy.]
Hey peoples so i made a erudite necro, and i was wandering around paineel cuase ive never been here before and wuz exploring. i think i am now stuck in the observation tower. how do i get out? i couldn't figure it out. thx for hlep
2) Guards if you are of reasonable level (28 at a minimum, 39 for sure because I have seen a 39 wipe all the guards discussed out) do NOT assist each other.
3) Guards drop some cash. Varies from Nothing to about 4 plat at most. Usually the cash is not all that good.
4) You will NOT get exp killing guards.
5) Guards DO _ALWAYS_ drop both a sword and a shield. They are VERY heavy, but worth about 7 plat for a pair and can easily be sold to the vendors. (having good CHA and/or faction will GREATLY improve your earnings.)
WARNING===WARNING===WARNING
The NPC casters (SK/Necro) WILL heal/buff the guards if they are in range. Pull AWAY from the casters. Always.
EXTREME_WARNING===EXTREME_WARNING
The dancing skelletons in the Shackled Spirit (area 9 on your EQAtlas map) are _Level_50_ there are _5_ of them, and they will AGRO AND ASSIST if you fight guards near them. (Trust me, my level 51 enchanter survived only pulling ONE of them by accident. My suddenly level 50 enchanter DID NOT SURVIVE pulling 4+ of them by mistake. They double attack in the 90's to 140's AND bash in the 30/40 range.)
From the elevator there are a pair in the first alcoves. They are easy, but have a LONG respawn.
At the spellbinder (on the stairs/fountains) there is another, also on a long timer.
Number 4 and 5 are in the first grassy area before the porticulus. Faster respawn.
Number 6 and 7 are in the pond area in front of SK guild.
Number 8 is just inside the doors to SK guild. (Pull him by opening door, running backward and using F8 [NPC target] and taping him with a spell. Otherwise the SK guildmasters heal/buff him.)
Go thru the teleporter (use Summon Companion to get pets to follow you.)
Past the first two shops and out into the grassy area.
Number 9 is in front of the bank.
Number 10 is in front of the teleporter. (labeled B on the EQAtlas map)
Number 11 wanders in this area.
Number 12 and 13 are just inside the passage to the Necro guild (south of area 9 but before the fence) you may be tempted to try these. DO NOT. Two light-blue at 50/51 Necros wander out this far. They will assist the guards. (They don't give faction hits. I know because I had to kill one.) And if you pull north even just a LITTLE the 5 skellies from area 9 come and ream you good.
There are about 12 -more- skeleton guards in the giant courtyard south of the area labeled 1 on the map. I did not, and will not, see if they can be pulled. It simply isn't worth it unless you have a group that can fight off everything that might come into the fight.
To get the faction required to get the key to the city. (to get the key be AMIABLE to the guards by the entrance to the newbie area, hail them, it asks if you need keys, say "i need keys" and you get them. LORE NO DROP so you can get a second key if, for some reason, the first key is on your corpse down inside the city and you are NOT. You just have to destroy the second copy before you can loot the bag with the first copy. "The voice of experience.")
[Note: to use the key you must have it on your "mouse cursor" and the 'mouse cursor" hovering over the 'rock' by the elevator and THEN use the "U" key to summon the elevator down into town.]
Back to gaining faction. Here is the fast and dirty way. I went from base dubious (all dark elves start dubious) to amiable in less than 2 hours.
Enter the warrens. Turn RIGHT and follow the tunnel till you come to a door. Enter the door. (on the EQAtlas map you are between areas 2 and 10)
Look around for a half-stairs down into a narrow hall with a door. Enter the door. There are two more doors. This is the Rikfeer area. Return to the entrance.
Go south and continue south to the "pit fighter" area. (Can't miss it, there is a shallow pit.)
Go east and clear out the "training" area. (labeled 7)
South and clear the areas around 8. This is the "Jailer" and he drops keys. Loot the keys.
Go thru area 9 (rats, they give no faction ignore them and they will ignore you, except 'frenzied rat' who is the placeholder for the named here)
On your left as you go north is a jail cell. Give the keys from the jailer to the "erudite prisoner" (the male erudite) for exp. (Yes, I got exp at level 51 in the warrens.) Sorry, no faction from this quest.
On to area 10.
Back to the entrance. (notice you are traveling in a giant circle counter clockwise)
Clear the Rikfeer area... again.... repeat.
Kill everything that looks like a mutt. Ignore the loot, it's heavy and the cash is rotten. Unless you find "bronze" weapons which sell for a few plat.
Usually by the time you sweep the area once the first ones you killed are back up.
Lather rinse repeat. Take a break every hour or so to check your guard faction. (Do not, as I did, check the male erudite standing outside the warrens/hole. He's dubious to everyone so he's on a different faction. Take the time and actually /con the guard. [the one closest to the hole I know for sure gives out keys, not sure if the other one does as well])
Remember 7-11 plat a guard... 11 guards or more a cycle.... 4 cycles or so an hour...
Guard Lecknar (1) is the left alcove off the elevator Guard Korlack (2) is the right alcove off the elevator Guard Tynaryn (3) is next to Spellbinder Tomas Guard Kellolonren (4) is to the left side of the gate into SK guild Guard Lelton (5) is to the right side of the gate Guard Abbilash (6) is along the right side of the pond near the SK guild Guard Rireboln (7) is next to the first teleporter Guard Pendlein (8) is just inside the door to SK guild. Guard Polzdurn (9) is just outside the bank Guard Yerlash (10) is next to the second teleporter Guard Duldoral (11) -probably- spawns (almost certain) outside the bank, and then wanders from the bank to outside the pub and back.
Guards 1, 2, 3, 9, and 11 are on 25 minute timers
Guards 4, 5, 6, and 7 are on 10 minute timers.
Guards 8 and 10 are on -6- minute timers. (all timers rounded to the closest full minute.)
[Note: if you are dragging a pet around you MUST Summon Companion RIGHT AFTER using the teleporter. If you move and THEN summon... the pet might suicide. Happened to me 3 times.]
Also, I was asked to check out the courtyard south of the palace. (there are a TON of skellie guards here) I was level 50 and got exp from 2 of the 3 guards I killed. HOWEVER... 2 of those 3 JOINED the fight (they assisted the guard I was killing) so this is NOT a safe place to farm at level 50. BUT... the "yellow to me at 50" paladin who had been camping them before me did not seem to have them assist. (I make no promises, so if you go there at level 52 and they assist don't blame me. Quite likely they assisted due to my PET'S level not mine.)
Yes, guard farming is a good source of plat, but unless you're about level 27-28 or so, you'll have to worry about adds for most but not all.
As you come off the elevator, there are two guards in the entry, these are about level 12-13 I believe. As you move down towards the city, there is a third guard next to the soulbinder (dark blue to level 31 mage). Down two sets of steps and out into the first courtyard, there are two guarding the first gate to your right as you leave the building, they are green to my mage at 31, but agro the level 29 cast fire pet (who should be level 26), so if you're below at least 27, I'd watch out for your add here. The fire pet takes them both out, but if they get a couple lucky hits, can take him down to about 35% or so without help.
The next two are on either side of the entrance of the SK guild within the next courtyard. Again, they're green to a level 31 mage, I'm not sure if they will agro the pet though. Just inside the door to the SK guild is usually another guard that cons blue to my 31 mage. My fear in pulling that one though is that the SK guild master is on the opposite side of the wall from this one that stands inside the doorway of the SK guild.
Toefungus suggested that you could earn 300pp an hour, and this is probably true, but I haven't ventured past the first teleporter within the city (my pets won't go through them). Loot is in small coin (10sp-3pp per kill), and each guard always drops a bronze sword and kite shield.
Pathing on the guards up to the first teleporter takes them up towards the elevator to the city's entrance, so if you agro the guards, it would probably be a good idea to start with the ones at the elevator and work your way down. Spawn time is about 15 minutes (give or take), but a couple minutes longer on the one next to the soulbinder.
The only real drawback is that you'll spend a ton of time in the warrens raising your factions high enough to get into the city if you can't already. Where you see folks talking about killing 600-1000 kobolds, they for sure aren't stretching the truth at all. That number may be more or less depending on your race and diety. In my case, they really don't like Brell - must've whacked 500 kobolds to get to dubious, and it's way uphill from there. You'll long have your faction with the Kobolds bottomed before you get to apprehensive with the folks in Paineel.
I can tell you from experience that killing paineel guards is great money. Tho it takes a while to get good faction to get key, the pay-off is wonderfull. to tell how good money is, if you are camping the guards at the lift first gate and first courtyard you can easily make 300pp an hour. AND YOU ONLY HAVE TO BE ABOUT LVL 28 or so! so to tell you, it is great money, but some guards do undercon.
First, as everyone knows, Kill every Kobold that moves in WARRENS. But first, find yourself a newbie. Group with them, so they can loot all your kills. Since you don't need the money, and there is no way you can carry loot from 800 - 1000 kills, may as well help someone. Besides that, the newbie can run and get you food and water if needed. Now, get yourself up to APPREHENSIVE killing the Kobolds. Once to that stage, go to the guards and hail an NPC caster out there. His name escapes me. It seems, he is in trouble since he lost his pet, and the pet is on a rampage killing things it should not. So, he asks for help killing the pet. Go kill the pet, return the drop, get a no-drop necro or SK item..(just destroy it) and VIOLA! You are now amiable. You take a faction hit to Erudian with this, but can't be much, as I am still ALLY to Erudian.
Whether you want faction or not, there is something about having a True Newbie follow you around, while you kill Kobold with one hit. They just sort of stagger behind you in AWE!!

When you first either leave or enter (can't remember which, I guess both) there are to skellies with picks and when you hal one One of the says "Can't you see we're busy" and the other immeadietyly says "Grap a pick, give us a hand!" I have no clue what they are talking about so i say things like "What pick" and "I want a pick" and more. Nothing. Anyone know what these guys are talking about?
If you kill the Kobold Scouts in Toxx, some have a "Useless Cloth Cap". Give the cap to one of the skeletons weilding a pick and they will give you either a low level gem, some bone chips or a Skeletal Femur (I think it is). The femur is a piercing weapon.
I was on my way into Paneel and a NPC Erudite (I think it was Azzar, but it was a while ago) attacked my 52nd season cleric (Karana follower). She easily blew him away, and took some faction hits *shrug*. Either way, it dropped "necromancer blood". I kept it thinking it was a component for blacksmithing which its not. Any ideas what this is for? I hate to toss a quest item away.
Caeri 52nd season cleric Clan Mackintosh ~Bristlebane server~
Necro blood is for a quest in erudin...in the hotel place on the left when u first walk in...i not sure what u get but it asks for a ancient snake rattle and blood sac or something P -clara-
K I hope this isn't a stupid question but have been looking though threads for 30 minutes and am tired of it. K i know that the two guards in newbie yard are a big no no no matter what your level/class. But what about the guards inside the city. Have seen many posts saying that they are good cash farms. Am just wondering if they are like the guards outside(pretending to be level 10 when they are level 45 and immune to half my spells)? I haven't got my faction high enough to get the key yet(5 hours in warrens so far) and don't want to continue to waste my time if they have "fixed" the guards inside to make them unkillible like the newbie yard ones.

my friend tryed to farm there. you might as well do it in warrens and get more cash. at around lev 50 she said, "its a nuc a guard no faction hit and 7pp pet guard. but respawn time sucks. so maybe you could do a round of guards. go in warrens and a round of king, mug, and everything else. then go back to pain.
Spawn times for the guards inside the city range from 8 min to 15 min....The ones by the elevator, and the on by the soulbinder have 15 min spawns, and the one inside the SK guild has an 8....If you can camp the entire city (50+'s can easily do this), you will NEVER be able to kill the guards fast enough *BUT* on my server you will never be able to camp the whole city because it will already be camped :-P
It is to easy to get to warrens. Just run down tunnel out main door in to the newbie zone just over a small hill and u are at zone. i took me 20sec to run from 1zone (ent of paineel)to thr zone of warren and never got attacked. the only gaurds are as u come out into newbie zone and that is only 3sec from warren zone. I never got attacked by anything. lifegiver lv24
Im a level 22War ATM and went thru paineel when i was lvl 19(KOS to everything) it is very easy to get through paineel, hardly any guards or NPC's around, my only trouble was the warrens, u gotta know exactly where ur going cause theres like a million kobolds down there(try getting invis or camo for warrens)
Hey, I am looking to bring my dwarf paladin to stoneburnt, but since I have to pass through paineel, I am not sure how good an idea it is. Could someone give me info on about how hard it would be to reach the warrens when you're most likely kos with all the folks?
The city is set up kinda wierd, you dont have to go through the city proper to get to the warrens, theres a fork in the road, one road takes you to newbie-warrens..the other the city..take a left..go through the newbie zone..and enter the warrens.

Indifferent is the minimum level for quests, and there is a mini-quest to get into the city. It's quite simple. Hail one of the skeleton guards in the newbie zone and say "I need keys". He will hand you a key to enter the city (it is also a very nice lightsource). Go down the tunnel next to The Hole, and there is a rock. Hold the key over the rock and hit "u". This will open the gates of the city.

That is a very good question. I can give you a partial answer, but not a full one, I am afraid.
I undertook to survey all the inhabitants of the Paineel city, and found 5 NPCs that were on a different faction. (There may be others, but my faction checks did not reveal them.)
Gerot Kastane -- He is just inside the city, in the first open area past the tunnel that leads inward from the elevator area. He stands in the area with some columns at loc 800, 670. He was apprehensive to my erudite shadowknight, and dubious to my human, agnostic monk.
Duriek Bloodpool -- He stands up in the observation room that overlooks the newbie hunting area at loc 905, neg 100. He was apprehensive to my erudite shadowknight, and dubious to my human, agnostic monk.
Tatalros the Cruel -- This guys was in skeleton form when I saw him, and he was standing up in the shop called "Good Iva's Tasty Treats" at about loc 960, 630. He was indifferent to my erudite shadowknight, and indifferent to my human, agnostic monk.
Elia Athrex -- She is standing inside the walled courtyard of the necro guild close to the building at loc 1095, 815. She was indifferent to my erudite shadowknight, and dubious to my human, agnostic monk.
Ernax the Scholar -- He was inside the Necro Library on the ground floor at loc 1140, 900. He conned indifferent to my erudite shadowknight, and dubious to my human, agnostic monk.
My monk, by the way, currently has apprehensive faction with the heretics after killing many kobolds in the Warrens, and my shadowknight has his base faction of amiable to the heretics. (He's a 2nd level mule.)
I honestly don't know what factions these folks are on, but I think knowing the locs of these NPCs might help others who might be KOS to avoid them.
For one, that's *very* useful information, Zhmoozo, I'd like to add a few things. I play a 38th level Iksar Shadowknight, and I worked my faction up to Indifferent in the Warrens (took me a good 4 hours or so, though I could have slaughtered more efficiently at places.) I then got to amiable turning in molars. I ran around and looked at the mobs in your post, and found the following things to my Iksar Shadowknight, Worshipper of Cazic-Thule.
Tatalros the Cruel conned Indifferent. I expect because he's in skelly form, he cons that way to everyone.
Ernax the Scholar - Indifferent. No real clue why, maybe he's diety based.
I couldn't find Elia Athrex. Hope you all find this useful. My initial faction with the Heretics started at "Glares at you Threateningly," btw.
Duriek Bloodpool conned Apprehensive
Gerot Kastane also conned Apprehensive (greatly relieved at that, he cons red at 38, and I'd wager he's a Necro or SK.)
I know Duriek Bllodpool is suppose to be in the tower overlooking the paineel newbie zone. Does anyone know his spawn rate. Ive check cuople times a day for a week and right after a patch. If anyone has seen him in a different location please let me know.
Not sure how an outsider would go about getting the keys to the city, but I lost mine once (kinda fell off the ledge into The Hole at level 4...10k damage later, and no equipment...), and had to find a way to get another one to get into the city. It's really pretty easy, just hailed one of the skeletal guards in the newbie area, he says something along the lines of "Uggg. Youz needz keyz?", I respond with "I need keys" and he says "Uggg.." and gives me the key.
Using the key on the other hand can be VERY annoying until you figure out the process. You HAVE to be holding the key in order to use it, then walk over to the little rock looking thing on the ground beside the elevator, look down at it and hit the "U" button. Give it a second and the elevator will come up. Step inside, turn around to face the little rock thing again and hit the "U" button (don't need to be holding the key at this point).
As for the factions inside Paineel, I can't say for sure that there ARE seperate factions, but I seem to recall one or two npcs that were dubious to me as an erudite shadowknight, though I can say that the necro and sk guilds are on the same factions.
Main thing to remember is that the ledge running along the mountain wall is your friend...you fall off that ledge, you WILL die. I had DMF on when I was fooling around, decided I'd float down and see what was there. Got the zoning message and KNEW I was screwed...DMF was gone when I zoned, and I took a LONG fall into The Hole (landed right beside a mist elemental or something like that) and took 10000 damage. Gotta admit, a level 4 SK taking 10k damage left me laughing...even though I knew I'd never see that precious bronze girdle again.
Good luck! Tarene, Level 6 Erudite Shadowknight Nameless Server
Anyone with Amiable or better faction can request a key from the guards. Using it is a pain in the butt, but it's not too difficult once you're used to it. If you intend on being in the area for a while, I'd suggest hotkeying the inventory box that holds the key to your front page.
I am amiable finally in erudine and paineel. I got the key for paineel. But when I go to open that rock leading to the entrance of the hole, the key won't work. Is it a different key? And if yes, how do I get it?
Even easier is to go into Paineel. There is a shop oposite the bank (you need to go around to the other side of the building) and in there, you can buy a Hole Key from the female merchant.
Thank you so much! I have no trouble scooting between the rocks to get into the Hole, but many groupmates do & it cuts down on xp time!! Just hope inside faction is the same as outside faction or I'm dead!! LOL!!
i was there when 2 lv 55+ droped in and killed the overlord, now im not shure if this is true but they said he dropped 500+pp and nothing else and i looted his pet and all i got wher bonechips =(
at lvl 15...a creature not sure what it was. it coned green to me and then hit me 4 times for 150hp+ each time. needless to say i died mucho times trying to get my corpse. Does anyone know why something that will con GREEN to a lvl 15 kill him so many times and hit so hard????
A lot of the paineel guards, especially the skeletal ones, are made low level to prevent people from killing them for xp. But they still hit hard as a further deterrant.
Has anyone tried to kill the overlord yet? theres lots of high level npc's here that dont seem to serve a purpose, he being one, so perhaps they have good loot? :D
I am a 51 human warrior of Karana and my Heretic faction is up to dubious. Before I decide to stroll into the city with someone who has a key, two things;
(1). Is there more than the Heretic faction line in Paineel? Will some UndeadSoldiersofPaineel faction or something I dont know of bring about an npc from out of nowhere to drop me in a heartbeat? I know merchants will only refuse to serve me if I am KOS, but the Cleric, SK, and Necro guilds might have other faction line to make them charge me as I pass, but possibly it is like SteelWarriors is to Warrior guild, yet as long as GuardsofQeynos faction is good, they wont do anything.
(2). Is there a way to purchase a key to Paineel beside the key to the Hole?
has anyone else been noticing new skeletons around Paineel? I have seen some named skeletons in different places in town (and no they arent pets) who have responded with messages when you hail them. Is it something cool?
What in the world?? This guy is a lev 24 necromancer and he spawns right above the entrance to the grassy part of this zone. I am a lev 24 paladin and i have managed to kill his pet, but when i went to melee him he was hitting me for 50+ dammage. I barely limped, jumped, crawled to the zone. How come he is not on the list of characters in this zone. I would like to know what he drops. He evidentily is a rare spawn but for now he is still in Paineel. A little info if you got it, please :)
Azzar is a Shadow Knight. He wears plate and is on the Heretics faction. He's quite common and guards the entrance to the newbie grounds and is usually up in the observatory above the gate unless trained out. He doesn't see invis, so safe to run by the gates when you're invis.
Azzar's green to my lvl 54 mage but still aggros on a lvl 56. Killing him gave same faction as most Heretic mobs - down with Heretic and up with Erudin Paladin, casters. And he dropped 3 gold. ;)
Elaeni Freestar 54th Elementalist of Praetoriate ~Bertoxx~
Created an erudite shadowknight (friendly to heretics) and got more out of him...
You say, 'hail Azzar Habbib' Azzar Habbib says 'I'm not in any mood for conversation. My favorite hat was torn right from my head by a gigantic bat the other night and I am quite upset. You say, 'what hat?' Azzar Habbib says 'It is a marvelous cap sewn from the finest textiles and imbued with the divine power of our lord of fear, Cazic Thule!
This is funny! It's even funnier if you know what's going on behind that friendly hat and the whole thing with the ham.
The music you are hearing is a typical Middle Eastern top-40s style love song. Nothing really spectacular about it, except that the singer is named Azar Habib.
The words you are reading are NOT any form of Middle Eastern, they are Swedish. Some wacky Swede (which doesn't narrow the list a whole lot) made up some Swedish lyrics that more or less sound like the Arabic lyrics. The Swedish version has phrases like "The hat is yours!" "Glue the Ham! Cool!" and "Let's dump the hat in Bert's coke-au-lait!"
Only the Swedes would put milk in their soda and then write a song about dunking a happy hat into it.
But then, they also gave us Abba, Golden Earring, Army of Lovers, and Aqua.
I was walking into Paineel, and this guys aggro on my 17th level drood friend who was cammo. Myself (21st war) and my buddy 24th monk, took him out and barely lived....my poor drood friend however was whacked. He had almost no loot, and nearly killed all 3 of us, took faction hit for heretics and something else....
I was wonderin....If you got that high lvl cleric buff that made ya invincible for 18 sec... divine aura i think not sure. ) And you jumped down da hole. Would you actually land unharmed?? Or would you still die? Hmm..... Tell me or post if you do I want to know the results. )
P.S. Help me think of a surname!

I had the same thought...I've been told that yes, you land safely, but I haven't been able to try it. Apparently it's one way to get down to Master Yael (sp?) quickly.
Divine Aura is self-only, level 1 for clerics and 55 for paladins I believe. Bards have a group version at level 60, Kazumi's Preservation. You can get a Shiny Brass Idol from a named orc in highpass which has one charge of it as well.
Well, I finally got around to trying it. Yes, it does work! My test character was a level 1 erudite cleric. I jumped, cast divine aura as soon as I zoned, and landed safely. Unfortunately without infravision or ultravision I couldn't see much down there. I left a corpse by a locked door instead of in the usual pile. Only two things attacked when I landed: a flighty fiend and an elemental channeler. No problem for a level 50-ish group. The falling time was shorter than I remembered though, so the bard song probably wouldn't work. On my first jump I fizzled divine aura twice and landed before I could get through the 1 second cast time.
So in theory, assuming a short cast time on a shiny brass idol, with a CotH-capable magician you should be able to get a large number of people down there with only one or two shiny brass idols: Level 1 cleric jumps and uses divine aura to land safely, then looks around the room and reports what mobs are down here. If something a single enchanter might have trouble keeping mesmerized is down there, abort and come up with a new strategy. Enchanter (or bard, but enchanter preferred) jumps and uses shiny brass idol to land. Once divine aura wears off, enchanter mesmerizes whatever is down there, and keeps them mesmerized or otherwise under control until enough people are there to kill them. Any number of clerics and 55+ paladins can jump too to protect the enchanter and possibly kill whatever is down there--maybe even without an enchanter jumping? Magician joins a group with someone (that other person must be the group leader). Magician jumps and uses shiny brass idol to land. Group leader enters the hole the normal way, as do the rest of the people. Group leader invites someone into the group, magician uses CotH to summon the person who then leaves the group. Repeat until everyone but the group leader is there, then summon the group leader.
Any reason why this wouldn't work? Other than jumping and casting divine aura I haven't tested it...
(Edit: Didn't realize necromancers get their own version of divine aura called Harmshield, and so can make the jump without being summoned. This should make it even easier to take out the mobs at the bottom: now 3 classes can jump right away, clerics paladins and necromancers. Have I missed any other classes?)
after reading these posts i decided to try it for myself. i made a mule erudite cleric and bought divine aura. after waiting for the very long recast time i worked up the guts to jump.. after i zoned i got divine aura off first try. i landed happily and walked around the room. nothing aggroed, but i didn't get far before DA wore off. after that i was pleased to experience my first death touch. 20,000 hp from master yael. and i saw the scalekeeper run over my corpse as the loading message came up. i decided i wanted to try again and hail one of those scary men. after another ungodly downtime i jumped to my bloody death again. after zoning i had three fizzles and a horrible crunching sound.. LOADING PLEASE WAIT
Why not just get a magician to summon you some rings of flight and then after you jump use them to cast lev on yourself? Dunno just a thought. divine aura would work, harmshield too, but why take risks when you can just use a ring of flight? Cast time is almost instantaneous on them too.
I saw a skeleton named tartolos the Cruel in the bakery of paineel i have no idea what hes for, when i hailed him he talked about how he almost took over the world.
