Beyond RARE

Quest drops off Arboreans is absurd. Someone please smack your responsible manager. Playing on The Combine, growing a half-elf warrior who's hometown is Kelethin, and working these armor quests required creating another toon to assist in the hunt.

What puzzles me most is the difference between tutorial and newbie areas outside of hometowns is ridiculous. SoE keeps pumping out expansions, but refuses to FIX things. It's like it's rocket science, this obvious NEED. Or perhaps, it is SoE's intention to slowly kill EQ. The latter seems quite possible due to major area dysfunction.

With nearly empty starting zones these days, trying to find what is needed for newbie armor has grown as rare as finding the right spawns which will drop them. As a player, I spawned opening weekend and yet running out of character spots on one proddie server has just meant starting again over on another one. I don't mind at all, but with empty pockets, shopping in the local bazaar has really not been an option for gearing up.

I do love the Progession servers (you can find me on The Sleeper); however, they disabled both the newbie quest givers or outfitting pre-10 in the Gloomdeep tuturoial nor having any elder sugar daddy - is very old school challenged. Meanwhile welcome the Drakkin in Cresent Reach.

So I have a newb Emerald Warrior hunting Forest Drakelings to collect the variety of scales they drop hasn't been as successful, but then finding them in the more common spots usually works. The arborean seem very scarce (note - new models are being used, the pict above was replaced). Their bark or twigs is the goal and with any such critter loot tables, finding nothing at all after a fight only adds to the frustration.

I remember with my elven casters that Wasps dropped the needed items for those combines, so I'm just wondering if the abundance of them I am seeing in the zone is offsetting the lack of finding any of the treant spawns? What about the Sylvan Bats?

Could anyone reading this thread confirm if this is your observation too?

Lastly, Kobolds drop the Crude Bronze so a further suggestion is to also hunt in Steamfont once you are ready to begin smithing the Crude Armor pieces. No suprise, The Warrens kobold clan occasionally will drop bricks, but not as often due to their Wicker and other loot table possiblities.

As of 5.27.2003, these little buggers no longer have or give faction hits. However, their much larger cousins (the Saplings and Matures) do.

Oddly enough, the faction hits attached to the larger arboreans in GFay is one of the ways (albeit VERY time consuming ways) to increase your faction with the local Wood Elves (some of them at least) without harming a single CB Orc if you are an 'Inky.'

On my new Cleric I was trying to get his beginning armor gear and so I was looking all over for these things. They are more common around the Kelethin area and not the Felwithe area. The most common spawn for this kind of Arborean the sprout is by the ruined Druid rings not to far from the newbie lift. He has about a minute or 2 minute spawn time and he almost always drops the bark, twigs, and roots I hope this helps. (I'm still trying to find the spawn locations of the mature and sapling... I've seen a few around the crushbone zone by the Orc lift but I'm not sure if that's there exact location. If you know please reply)

Does anyone know the faction hits for killing these suckers?
RE: Factions

Arboreans of the Faydark got worse
Tunare's Scouts got better
Emerald Warriors got better
Soldiers of Tunare got better
Faydarks Champions got better

These things look the same as Treants (of the Karanas) but they are not, and they have different factions. A Druid I was grouped with got bent out of shape over my killing an arborian, but I think killing them is actually good for druid faction, unlike the Treants.

Soldiers of Tunare are druids. It's all good. The reason why they don't like these guys is because they're like weeds. They soak up all the nutrients, leaving only death behind. And because they can move around, they are even worse.

The Arborean Amber dropped from the mature arboreans is for the cleric newbie weapon after they complete the armor quest. May possibly be needed by other classes, I'm not sure.

the sprouts, saplings, and matures all drop stuff needed by lots of classes. The twigs are also used by clerics in their armor quests. I have completed the gauntlets, bracers, breast plate, helm, and , boots. I still need the leggings and arms. I have noticed somting... or maybe I havent, i dont know. It seems that the saplings spawn when lots of orcs are being killed in the orc camps by the entrance to CB. Arborean sprouts seem to spawn by the ton close to Kelethin when lots of noobs are killing in the zone close to the ruins. have any of you noticed a similar pattern? I know other quested items required the killing of certain mobs in succession to get a specific item. hmmmmmm......

Can't get anything but bark after killing 20!
3 types of these why are their drops so rare
# Aug 08 2002 at 5:49 PM Rating: Decent
there are at least 3 different types of these
-arborean sapling
-arborean scout
-a mature arborean

they each drop differnt things and look like mini treeants. My cleric has been killing them for her newbie armor quest and cant ever get anything to drop except an arborean amber (anyone got a clue what that is for?) and one dropped a twig of which i need 2.

if this is newbie armor quest why are the mobs and their drops sooooo rare?!!!!
