My level 55 pally pretty damn god equiped(bout 100-120k worth of equips on him) soloed him and every wolf in cave at once....heh course i had virtue and shiat but yah.Used lay hands and devine aura to loot then run like hell :P...btw pally has 5.1k hp with virtue*
But don't think you wanna try to solo him. Ghowlik isn't the problem - it's all the adds in the cave your gonna get. All sonics will agro you - it doesn't matter if they are geen. But - I can tell ya... if you can clear the cave, you can probably take on Ghowlik with no problems. Before they patched it ( a while ago), you used to be able to cammo up, enter the cave and target Ghowlik (or the PH). Then cast from above the cave and the mob would run out - without agro. But you can't do that anymore. You have to Pull him from inside or stand your ground. Oh wait.. you have one more possibility - I JUST REMEMBERED... When my druid was 30 something.. I would pull Ghowlik (along with all the adds). I would run around and make sure that Ghowlik would be following me. When he was near the Grimmling Zone line - I would ensnare and root (if I wasn't getting killed to fast). Then I would zone out, wait a few seconds and zone back in. The other sonics would be walking back and there would be Ghowlik.
Somebody ooc'ed that Ghowlik was up if anyone wanted him. I, knowing that he dropped my next equipment upgrade, hastingly planned a solo assault on this guy. I SoWed myself, cast SL, and levitation. I then ran into the Sonic Wolf Cave and ran up to Ghowlik, tagged him and ran out of the cave. In the process, about seven wolves came with (each hitting me in the eighties). I headed to the Zoneline for Grimling, (I did a /who to see if I needed to shout Train, but there was nobody) waited for wolves to catch up, and zoned. After a few seconds, I zoned back in. I saw that the wolves were marching back with Ghowlick in second marching order with a gap in between him and the other 5. I ran up in the front of the procession and barely aggroed the regular wolf and Ghowlick. Ran off to the side, FoL'ed both, cast pet, both came back, recast FoL on normal one, killed Ghowlick, killed normal one that came back. ...And looted my desired shoulders. Phew.

Can anyone suggest a few tactics to use for a 35ish druid to get the skin? I've read every post here and my mind's wheel is turning... I want the skin badly...
Holy cow! Worked like a charm. You just go into the cave invis and sit against the wall behind the packleader or Ghowik. If you tuck yourself into the corner on the right (as your back is to the wall), you wont get any agro from the sonic standing on the ledge. Wait for the wandering sonic to pass by (he's on a 2 min loop) and you have 2 mins to kill packleader or Ghowik. If your snare wont land, dont worry. Dont give chase, just wait for him to come back to you -- he doesnt bring his friends. If you do get the wandering or any other add, just have panic animal up, so you can fear it away and take them one at a time. At level 47 Ranger, with buffed AC of 900 or so, each wolf did a mere 150 - 200 total HP of damage to me each fight. You have plenty of time to med back all your mana waiting for the respawn. Easy but boring camp. I killed Ghowik 8 times before getting a hide. Plus a mess of packleaders. Took 5 and a half hours! Then, he respawned and dropped another hide on the next kill (I had an alt parked nearby). So 2 of these and the jawbones for a night's work. Not too bad.

Yes... they will agro you... at least they are still agroing my 51 shammy. And for other posters the loc is approx p450, n2975. Spawn cycle is 12 minutes, PH is a Sonic Packleader.
Two drops that I have seen:
Elder Wolf Hide: LORE ITEM MAGIC ITEM AC: +10 Str: +4 Wis: +4 Int: +4 HP: +30 Weight: 5.0 Classes: All Classes Races: All Races Inventory Slot: Shoulder
Dont get me wrong, when i went to solo this dude for the shoulders, his cave was COMPLETELY filled with grimlings conning l blue to me.... someone plz tell me wuts up? yes i have the right cave!!! thnks
Although I've not seen it myself, apparently, the grimlings and sonics fight a big war periodically. One side or the other will get wiped out. I found the sonic cave totally empty my first time there -- and it stayed empty for at least two hours -- so I assume I showed up shortly after the war.

Just thought I'd give info on what I've found on this. Some of the info already given here is pretty much right on. His PH is the Packleader and I might have been lucky on my 3 trips with about a 30% ratio of Ghowlik to the PH. They both fight a little harder than the regular sonics but not much. I used a 52 warrior for this camp. The spacing on each sonic except for the PH is far enough apart to single pull. I did notice something a little weird on my second and third nite though. Aside from timing the two elites that guard the entrance there's a roamer that strolls through from outside the cave. Not sure where he comes from but he tends to mess up my system. As for the elites, you have to try and clear as much of the room before they respawn which was about 20 mins roughly. I had problems killing the sonics during their death retreat out of the cave and aggro'd the guards which was hard without root spells. Even for a 52 warrior, if you get 3-4 of these on you at once it gets intense. Sadly all his loot is lore and the wolf hide only drops 1 out of 5 times at best. This item is worth the effort though. I sold one and gave the other to my brother's druid. I got 2500pp on saryrn from a druid in need. And if you're doing the math, yes I only got 2 over 3 nites of 2-3 hour camps. Lot of those Jawbones rotted LOL. Well, hope this sums it up for anyone thinking about doing this cave. Just remember to work fast if you're gonna solo it. If you gotta go AFK, just leave and start all over. Rage On!

Oh, to answer the question as to the zone and loc of this cave. Hollowshade Moor. Loc -2850, 600. From Shar Vahl head east over both bridges. Once you get over the second bridge just look east towards the zone wall of mountains. Can't miss it. Forgot that on my original post.
Lol guys ill tell ya this once.I get 2 of these every night and sell them both for 5-1k each in the bazaar. There is a secret way to pull him with NO agro and i can confirm after camping here every night for 3 weeks they drop every 6-7 times.Sometimes i would kill 10-12 spawns in a row then i get 1 sell go back and it drops again on the very next Ghowlik spawn. So if your doin it the hard way dont give up you will get it.This zone is bugged hard.I have found another glitch that you can stand on the mountain way up above Chief and nuke him and he never moves.Problem is lootin him can be bad.His rare drop is a Cerimonial Smudging Stick.Range slot +3 WIS +3 AC +10 sv magic fire posion
Me and a friend spent over 5 hours camping this elusive mob and here is what we found. The ph is definitely the sonic packleader. Either Ghowik or the packleader will spawn every 12 to 14 minutes. Based on about 30 spawns, it looks like the packleader spawns 75% of the time and Ghowik spawns 25% of the time.
Of the 7 times (out of 30) that Ghowik spawned, he only had the shoulders 1 time. I suspect that we may have had some bad luck there, but for us he only dropped the shoulder 15% of the time.
The wolves are very tough for the their level (mid 20s) and have a huge aggro range. They are also difficult the snare. Several times we ended up fighting the whole cave at once when the pet got too far into the cave. Ghowik spawns deep inside and the to the right once you enter. He is no tougher then the other wolves to kill once he does spawn.

All 3 times he dropped Elder Wolf Hide (AC 10, +4wis, +4int, +4str, +30hp, shoulder slot all/all 5.0 weight MAGIC LORE). Just wondering. I hear some of you saying you have like four of them. Cannot you only hold ONE lore item at a time?
Killed Ghowik 4 times yesterday. This is how it went. 3 packleader spawns, 2 Ghowik then another 3 packleader and another 2 Ghowik. Drops fell the same way both times and in same order. Got 2 jawbone and 2 shoulders.
I'm a 45th Warrior on Fennin Ro and camped this wolf with my brother a 43rd Ranger. Wolves VERY resistant to snare. We camped it by going invis back to corner where Ghowik and packleader spawn. We broke that area by killing the packleader and 3 sonic wolf, then we just sat down and killed em one by one as they cycled. Piece of cake. May get a roamer, but chances are you won't have to fight more than 1 green for most of the night.
Don't let these guys gang up on you though. They have a lot of hp's for a green, are very resistant and very very fast. Almost as fast as rangers level 43 sow. Overall an easy camp if you can take on 4 or 5 of these wolves at once when you first break the camp. The Jawbone is worthless if you ask me, but the shoulder piece is very nice. Good Luck
Today I killed him 3 times (his PH is a sonic packleader). Had 3 spawns of this guy, and 7 spawns of the packleader. All 3 times he dropped Elder Wolf Hide (AC 10, +4wis, +4int, +4str, +30hp, shoulder slot all/all 5.0 weight MAGIC LORE). Was eaiser than the guards outside of the cave.
With the post patch situation in Hollowshade Moore this guy no longer spawn every 20 mins, if he even spawn at all. You can expect his drops to go up in price at the local gfay.
You guys have this all wrong, just try this kill sonic guardians then kill all sonics to the right side plus packleader. now camp behind the spawn. I have 4 elder jawbones and 2 shoulder pieces in one day.

you people use the term noob too loosly. Try looking at yourself before calling someone a noob, especially if they are lvl 54. And for you, 54 mage, don't go accusing people of being all wrong. Just because they didn't do it your way doesn't mean that it's wrong.
omg dont take offence casue he says u are wrong. my god how childish, and for the guy calling him a noob. did he say u have to kill more then the ph? NO but i am willing to bet if u dont kill rest of wolves they will assist him. peopl get to worked up over STUPID stuff. his way works so it is one way. the other people are complaining cause theres doesn't shut up dont complain cause he says your wrong, and just do it that way. 90% of this game is done how 1 person or a group of people did something. it worked the best and became a trend. Follow his advice if it doesn't work well for you try something else.

With every kill I go wiser, With added wisdom I grow stronger
Spawn is completely random. Gone there and he happens to be up, gone there and it's the packleader. Stayed in the zone for a couple hours with a tracker....still the packleader.
When I did camp him a while back, it was just random. After the first packleader I killed, he spawned twice in a row. After which I got 4 more packleaders. I have gone back a few times to help guildmates grab the shoulder item. And since there is definitely a window to being able to kill him and still loot (Firiona Vie, trivial loot). I did it while I still could.
He did con light blue to a 36 friend most recently, so it seems his level can be lower than what is stated here.
Ghowlik is the one named spawn (that I've seen) in the sonic wolf cave in Hollowshade Moor. A sonic packleader is his ph. He spawns on the right side of the cave between two rocks. So far his known loot is the Elder Wolf Hide (shoulder item) and the Elder Wolf Jawbone (a nifty sword).
Ph and named are on a 16 minute timer.. and I can't really confirm it.. it could just be coincidence but I think he might be "anti camp". When I first arrived he was up, I killed him and he dropped the sword. So I then called up a pet and cleared the cave. I then got 6 Packleaders in a row. So I thought to myself it might be anti camp and I ran off to the Grimling camp and killed the chief. Upon returning I stayed outside the cave and killed the guardians out front. Sure enough when I went back in he spawned and dropped the shoulder item. I waited again outside and he spawned again and dropped the sword which I let a friend loot since it's lore.
So like I said it's either a crazy coincidence that he spawned twice while I was out of the cave.. but who knows how that crazy VI works. ;)
Hope this info is helpful.. and that shoulder item is pretty nice for any caster.
Nice info Xeno might be anti-camp spawn but I've camped on center rock with an Earth pet(hey he's screams solo with me)cleared cave 4 times and only PH. The I leave my pet with orders to KOS anything the breathes and go in search of the elusive Sacrifical Hammer the chief has. Few Minutes later I get then Taunting message. Run back & see named dead so I loot(COMMON Drop Elder Wolf Jawbone)Note Icon says sword Graphics on a barbarian Velium Axe on Elves a Jawbone Hatchet. So I leave pet and got looking for chieftan(BTW empty zone 75% of the time so I don't feel bad Farming Wolves with pet). 10 spawns of named and only 1 shoulder. Anti-spawn may only be on players, it does seem to activate if a pet is the farmer. BTW I got my hammer +2 str -15 Cha ALL ALL Ritual Sacrifice hehe a Beserking mage with DS and a 1hb weapon with decent damage.
He doesn't have to prove it, since it's already been proven time and time again by other players over the 3 year history of Everquest that anti-camp code does not exist. For every situation where someone has claimed "anti-camp code", several other people have gotten the mob to spawn sitting right at the mobs spawn point. Verant has also stated on several occasions that there is no such thing as anti-camp code.
Anti-camp code is nothing more than an EQ Urban Legand.
