I killed the thing. They are the Luclin version of Willowisps. The various wings they drop are light sources.
I didn't want to stick around and see how long it would take and I was going to take it's chitterling barb anyway.

Ok, the guy who said to kill in the tunnels is correct. For some odd reason, these guys are never up when I zone into SW, but by killing off all wandering mobs in the tunnels around Paludal all the way to what I call the "kidney bean" area, I can get them to spawn on the next round.

Unfortunately, it takes a while for the respawn :( and there's no guarantee they'll drop a barb. As far as I can tell, it evens out to around 1 barb for every 2-3 chitterlings, although I did get one round where 5 spawned and not one of them dropped a barb. :( :(

I recently took my level 12 Beastlord through these tunnels on my way to PC and was attacked by 2 of these and some of the alien looking creatures. While fighting the Chitterlings (about 60-120 seconds) everytime my warder attacked I would get the message that 'Lenk's Warder tries to (attack) a chitterling, but it is INVULNERABLE', however I was able to attack them normally.

I have never seen this type of effect before. Has anyone else noticed this, and is there such an ability/spell as Summoned Invulnerablity?

It probably just means it needs a magical weapon to hit it. Your character might have one, but your pet cannot hit magical creatures at level 12. I believe it should be able to on your next pet upgrade or 2.

I parked my druid in SWT for 5 hours and only tracked one! It was on track as I came into the zone. It despawned and was gone before I got there. no barb in over 5 hours!
I will be spending al ot mroe attention to that now I know how rare it can be!

Well, I must say, so far, none of the chitterling wings I've come acrossed have been no drop or no rent...they do in fact glow nice and bright...as for getting 3pp for them, well, I haven't sold mine yet, but if indeed they go for this much, hehehe...I'll be rich!

I don't think they even get as high as twelve, because every one i've come across is yellow at level 9 (not that i've come across a whole lot, maybe 3 or 4). As for the barbs, i was unaware of their rarity, although i knew they were used in tinkering. I still have one on my main. Do tinkerers buy these things?

I know they can be 11th and 12th. They conned even with some of my 11th and 12th level characters.

When Luclin first came out they were almost imposible to get. Since these guys are mostly around the newbie Val Shir areas the lucky few who found one and knew what to do with it made out like bandits. On Morell Thule I paid as much as 200pp to get one. With a success on a Geerlok sewing contraption I sold it for 1500 plat. I even took a 40th level Ranger alt of mine and parked her in Shadeweavers Thicket to track the bugs. During the first few months she never saw more than one up at a time. Never saw more than one.

That was then, this is now.

Now it isn't as hard. This is still the rarest tinkering supply, not counting the uber stuff of course. However, my ranger has seen as many as 4 up at a time. I made myself a rogue to see what they were like. At 11th level he got bound in Val Shir and was on his way to Paludal Caverns to get some XP. He found 3 on the way and all 3 had a barb.

Now, on Morell Thule, they sell for around 20 to 35 plat.

having a tracker is prob nessessary too. to find them since they are so small. and are only drawn when you get up on top of em.

you can allso find the barbs on venders. if you dont "see" the item you want on a vender he may still have it and you can go fishing. see venders can only show you the top say 15 lines of goods. everything after that is not shown. you must buy out a couple things at once. then leave the selction screen and come back for it to refresh. and at the bottom of the venders list you will see more items for sale that you didnt see before. this only works on venders that are stuffed. clicking down about 8 times from the open of the venders inventory will give you a general idea of how big his visable inventory is.

i've seen them outside the tunnels. but inside is the best place to begin. kill all the low lvl mobs roaming the tunnels and pray that a chitterling will spawn.

these things remind me of those steel metal slimes on the nes dragon warrior roleplaying game. they are so hard to come accross.

Glow. If you manage to kill one, you may find Chittlering wings! They glow and if it has more than one item, loot the wings and it'll stop glowing! and it acts like a lantern, no matter where you put it! of course it is NO RENT.

I have come across several different kinds of chitterling wings. Some are "shimmering", others "glowing" or just plain "chitterling wing". One of these types is a NORENT item, but the other 2 that I've seen are not.

Also, they look different. One type is bigger than the other, and produces a noticeably brighter light than the smaller one when on your person. It also sells for more money, if you choose to sell it to a merchant.

I kept the bigger one and sold the smaller. I don't know what use the NORENT ones would be, but maybe they drop more often? I've only killed about two dozen chitterlings so I don't have a good sense of the drop frequencies.

If you're confused about what the different wings are and all.. just consider these things to be like willowisps.. because.. well.. they are.

Can only be hit by magic weapons... drop 3 different type of glowing items.
Chittering wing = Burnt out lightstone, both are low level light items that are No Rent.
I don't know which of the other two wings are brighter, but they're equal to Lightstones/Greater Lightstones, and almost looks like they sell for the same.

I found ONE in the caves, just outside the north east room (near center top of zone) about neg 1400 pos 2100. Camped the spot for at least 15 minutes and watched tracking, havnt seen another one.

Anyone know any other areas this guy spawns? He drops a Chitterling Barb, used by tinkerers to make the geerlock sewing contraption.

I've seen them spawn in the newbie field to the left of the road as you come out of Shar Vahl zone, and have also seen them spawn near the Paludal Caverns entrance.

They look just like Nuisances, but you can tell them apart at a distanct because the Chitterlings glow and the Nuisances don't! Just look for a moving spot of light and you've probably found a Chitterling.

I've seen these things all over. The one which dropped the Chitterling Barb for me was near the entrance of the caves which lead to Paludal. I could find no reference to the geerlock sewing contraption. Would you mind giving me the full recipe? And, assuming it isn't no-drop, how much could I expect to get if I chose to sell the barb? Final question.. Has anyone found a quest for any of the wings that are dropped?

Ops sorry about that previous post. I sold some barbs to a PC for over 40pp each. I asked what he needed them for and he said for a trade skill. I can't find any quests for the wings though. Please post where I can find info on quests for this mob.

You must be wielding a magical weapon to strike a Chitterling. They are an easy kill for their level and drop very good loot.
