Back about ohhhh 6 months ago when I still played EQ I spent about a good 60 hours camping mobs in this zone. The best way to get the Heirophant to spawn is to zone in from the Scarlet Desert, and take a right to the corner there, where it is safe to pull. Go out and pull decayed iksars and kill kill kill. After awhile (the Heirophant has a random chance of spawning with each skelly kill im fairly sure) he will pop with either a sword, a shield or nothing, if he doesnt have anything that means he has the necklace. I was a 57 druid and the best was I pulled him was just to go out there and pull him and whatever buddies are around, since the skeletons are pretty weak. The Heirophant is weaker then the average skeleton for sure. He usually will be standing in the spot of whatever skeleton he replaced, sometimes he moves around a little bit, (one time I was medding and he just walked right into the little valley before the safe wall to sit on (in the corner remember.)
Be careful people with track WILL try to steal your hard work. One time I had this guy popped after 2 hours of killing skeletons, I pulled him and he had the scimitar which I already had one, so I told my other druid friend to get to the grey ASAP. Well some other druid with track came along, saw me sitting there with the Heirophant snared and rooted and me attacking him pretty cleary. (I was trying to keep him alive to give my friend time.) And the other guy just nukes him even after I told him not to, then my friend couldnt get there fast enough, so the other druid just took the loot and left. I hate druids that are like that...
Heirophant probably soloable by a 50+ caster with KEI (without adds) need to be higher level to deal with adds. Be careful because rock monsters will pop on the rocks out in front of the safe corner. BUT just invis and run on those rocks and the monsters will appear and you can let them depop themselves (except shimmering rockfiends will not depop) and sometimes you can get a named rockmonster that also drops nice loot.
