Since he's the ranger trainer you obviously have the ability Sneak, just sneak up to him and he'll train you since he'll con indiff.

do the Traders of the Haven quest for Shadowhaven. Doing it once got the Ranger Guildmaster (who apparently hates Half-Elves,too) and the less than friendly merchants to speak to me. Very Easy for me, but I'm a Ranger in his 50th season. You will be requird to run through EchoCaverns. As long as that isn't a problem (invis) then this quest will be easy for you too.

I did the Steaon's Deliveries quest one time and was able to get Yargin to train me.

He's a ranger guildmaster, but he won't "have anything to do with Wood Elves."
