Well here about the runner.

Behind the Foreman he is the second strongest grim around here (talking from infight). Additionally his runspeed cant get changed (now you know why his name, if wandered till now).

Hes output on ore might be around 50% .. but ... the hazard with him is 1.) that ore isnt his mainloot ... as mentioned its the pouch for the quest, and 2.) due to 1 he is a longtime spawn in the zone. I cant tell you the exact time, but I guess tsdeane's info wasnt that bad about his spawntime! So dont count on him talkin about smithin ...

Pulled him into zone cave with tainted breath and let pet do most of the work with the occasional assist untill he turned to run agianst the wall so he dint even get out of the cave!! the loc and time have been slightly adjusted as of the last patch. the loc is still near the tunnel to the grimling forest. -1500 by -1175. time is 90/100 minute. he will run from the spawn to the far Grimling mine and return. make route twice and despawn. (27 minute despawn). have watched the runner 6 times to make sure of this info.

i wouldnt be able to tell ya about the 90 minute timer since i killed him only once. i was lucky enough to catch him as i was zoning in. im a 36 bst and i had temp on and as soon as i saw him upon zoning in i summoned doggie sent him in. while doggie was fighting i stuck proc on him and went in myself. he is a tough bugger he took me down to 38% but that was probably because i had 1hb weapons that i was still training with. dont know how hard i was hitting him for so i cant tell you how much hp he has. i used up all my mana on healing doggie as i stepped back when he got me down to 38%. he did run from me but doggie went after him unfortunately for me a wolfie got right in front of me and i didnt want aggro so i waited while doggie finished him off but i ddint see where they had headed off to. after doggie killed him i had to spend about 20 min looking for the ugly buggers body. neway as soon as i hit 39 and get my new spells and doggie im camping him since by then my doggie will be able to solo him with a couple heals from me :).

If the guy a few posts down can do it with a 36 ranger with a wurmy and shrpened mining pick and silver chitin handwraps, do you think a 33 ranger with the same weps and swiftclaw sash with temperance can do it? I really, REALLY need a rallic pack.

It was your choice to stupidly camp SF for that long; not everyone has waited that long. Granted, an hour and a half isnt a long time, but dont think youre all that just because you have no life and camp all day (31 hours in one day I guess?) So please, do us all and a favor and STFU. Thanks =)

I have a 36 ranger with decent gear (but NOT twinked) and I was able to take this guy out easily 3 different times. In all cases he took me to about 50-60% health before meeting his own demise. I was using a Wurmslayer and a Sharpened Mining Pick along with Silver Chitin Hand Wraps. He hit in the 50-60's usually but not that often, and I got backstabbed once for 82 I think. He was much easier to kill than I expected.

He spawns on a 90 minute timer in the cave that leads from the Tenebrous Mtns. to the Grimling Forest zone. If you are standing at the mouth of the cave, facing in, he will spawn on the right and walk out along the right wall. The first time I caught him he was out of the cave, wandering along the south edge of zone between the previously mentioned cave and the grimling caves. This isn't new info, just my own personal observations which match what others have posted.

He wasn't moving all that quickly when I found/fought him. I had SoW up and had to zone the first time I encountered him because I immediately got an add since he was out roaming the zone. When I ran from him that first time he never caught me nor backstabbed me. Perhaps I was just lucky. His walking speed seemed like a normal mobs walk speed (i.e. he isn't always running full speed as the orc runner in butcherblock is). And when I had him down and he started to flee, he wasn't moving very quickly then either. Soon enough, he wasn't moving at all.

All in all, a fun quest to do.

I've done the runner consistently for over a year, always getting him easily by sitting on the right side of the GF/TM zone tunnel as posted by most everyone. And always no later than 20 or so minutes late if I caught him early in the morning (assuming he wasn't killed in the wee smalls and the timer started late because he actually got to complete his trip).

So, yesterday, imagine my chagrin to only get him twice in 3 hours - the middle spawn he never showed, although I may have logged back on a couple minutes late - with Daylight Savings Time going away the clocks at home were a bit wonky.

Couldn't sleep, and he was due up at 4, so I got up at 3:45 and logged my runner killer on (camped at the tunnel entrance) - and at 4:30 STILL no runner.

When I did kill him Sunday, instead of exiting the tunnel and making his usual hard left towards Katta he wandered more straight, a bit to the right, more towards the vamp fort.

Anyone have any hard solid info on if his spawn time/point has changed? I'm not looking forward to searching all over TM for him - and as a warrior I don't have track - have some alts that need bags, so trying to restock patterns in between raids. Any solid info appreciated. Thanks. Smiley: grin

So i agroed him as he came out killed him got the pouch and finished the quest. Quite fun Id have to say!

He spawned outside of the far west caves for me two times @ 90 minute intervals. I was confused becasue the first time I tried to camp him I was at the first cave I came to on the south wall going west from Grimmling -- as that is what I thought was posted earlier, but when he didn't spawn there I went further west and POP!

Well after following all the advice here I camped the cave entrance to Grimling Forest and he sure did spawn in the cave at the corner. Easy kill for me LVL 45 BST. Camped the cave a few times and made/sold the packs for 500pp easy. Probably could have held out for more but where's the fun in standing in the Bazaar all day?

Anyway after a while of cave camping and pulling bats/wolves/aliens I got a bit fed up and decided to leave the runner alone and go hunt in the grimling caves. I chose the second cave as it seems to have easier single pulls (the one nearest Katta entrance) I'm now a LVL 47 BST and with KEI I can solo the entire cave almost continuously. Stopping only when I run out of slots for loot. The gems and acrylia more than making up for the lack of rallic packs.
BUT bonus, this cave is where the runner runs to. During a fight with an orefinder at the entrance I got the runner as an add!!!!. 90 mins later I get him again :) Later in the day I see him LEAVE the cave, on his way back to Grimling Forest perhaps? Dont know coz I killed him LOL!
So if you have the zone to yourself camp this cave, lots of acrylia + gems PLUS the runner :)

(this is on Antonius Bayle btw)

As I was sneaking and running my way back from a mini guild raid in Ten mtns. I got a Tell from a 30 monk wanting help killing this guy. I'm a 29 Rogue and we took him down with little problem (I did get smacked down to 39% hps, so I won't be soloing him very soon). So a duo of lower lvls can do this quest if they work together! Good luck, can't wait to get mine.

I am level 41 first time I did this guy was at 39.

Nothing changes his run speed. And if i nuke him he comes for me and ignores pet. Oh my what to do.

Well I just send in pet then hit him with plague no aggro at all from that then I boil his blood for him. Again no aggro. Now comes the aggro with a shock of poison and then it is time for a fake death. I just sit there and watch him die with the dots and pets. Once in a blue moon he will kill my pet and start to move off before the dots kill him just pop up when he is a little bit a way and back he comes. Then if he is really low whack him till he retreats or if still a bit strong just fd again and let the dots finish him.

Can anyone tell me if the latest patch changed the spawn cause i killed the bugger the other day, he came from the east so i thought he was back from his route, 90 minutes later i'm waiting near the zone to GF, as always, and no pop, 5 minutes later, again he's coming from the east, so perhaps it got changed.
By the way i've done this quest like 20 times.

Some report having seen the Runner pop halfway between zone to GF and the Grimling Caves. Many have seen the Runner spawn in the tunnel to GF, while others camping his spawn point missed him leaving the tunnel altogether...

Could it be that, being a rogue, the conniving little bugger uses sneak and hide?

I have made DOZENS and DOZENS of Rallic packs. And the Runner is a VERY predictable 90min spawn. I think the odd mins are due to the spawn cycle starting from Time of Death? SO that would cause spawn cycle to shift some throughout the day. He does spawn back inside cave entrance on right side as you look in, as others have noted, and his path is between there and the Mines on the South East end of the zone. SO if he does sneak out of the cave you will find him out in the zone. I usually sit on the right side across from the big rock as you look into cave so I will draw aggro from him when he pops and don't have to pay too much attention to watching for him. But at times I have pooped up track when the spawn time seems to have passed and lo and behold he has left while I was killing a Dire Wolf or something and is running toward the mines. And I have watched him do this to other groups as well. So if you find him out there it is becuase he got outta the cave unnoticed.

Yep -- 90 minute spawn timer, and he popped inside the Grimling Forest zone tunnel exactly as described in earlier posts. Just did it last night.

Easy kill for me (51 Shaman), but lower levels beware. Based on my one encounter, he seems pretty tenacious. Not only is he an ugly little bugger, but he's none too bright. He was very green to me so he did not aggro me. Before he made it out of the tunnel, I sicced Fido on him and slowed him, and do you think he tried to run? Nope. He kept slugging it out with doggie. Then I cast a DoT on him, and even though his health was dropping like a rock he charged me and skewered himself on my waiting spear. Dopey little monkey-man. :)

Good luck with the quest!

I think with decent gear, a good weapon, and buffs, a 37 could solo him. I would say definitely give it a try, but for your first attempt, try to catch him at his spawn point in the entrance tunnel (from Grim Forest). I wouldn't try to take him too far from there for a couple of reasons;
1. He is FAST, and immune to changes in run speed.
2. He is a Rogue, so if your far from the zone when you decide he's too much to handle, he will backstab you all the way to zone line, unless you can outrun him, which is unlikely.

I'm almost certain he's a rogue, two times while waiting for him to pop, I had my back to his spawn point, both times he Backstabbed for a good amount. Hope this helps, and best of luck!

The first time I solo'ed this guy with my ranger I was level 34. A warrior might have a little more trouble though.

I wait by the cave entrance at the zone, he usually comes right by the front of the cave. I pull him into the cave to avoid adds. He can be snared btw, I've successfully snared him every time I've fought him (3 times).

I just checked out your magelo. You better work on 2hs unless you have a lot cash for some uber 1hs's. You won't be able to hold taunt in PoP. 2HB, 2HD, 2hand piercing are almost a must for warriors in PoP. IMO I'd rather spend 20k on a Windblade (A Ro server) then spend 60k total on two really good 1hs's.

It's possible for you to kill him if you are able to get haste, regen, and sow on you prior to engaging him in battle. I, myself, do not know how hard he will hit you, but with a few buffs from a shaman of DS from a druid you should do just fine.

If you sit in the tunnel to GF and wait there ontop of the big rock, stare straight at the curve in the wall infront of you. That's exactly where he spawns. I was a bit confused when I went in because I didn't know if he spawned in the mouth or the back, turns out it's somewhere in the middle. His spawn time is definately 90 minutes, don't let anyone tell you otherwise because you'll miss your spawn. I killed him at 3:09 PST and he respawned at 4:39 PST, killed him again and he respawned at 6:09 PST. He does drop the pouch every time and he IS immune to changes in run speed. If you're a casting class it's a good idea to have SoW on, or some other form of speed. He doesn't have that much health, he was blue to a 39 druid and was taken down in four smacks of Firestrike.

I have camped the grimmling caves for the past few weeks and don't believe for a minute the runner spawns in the tunnel to grimmling forest. I know this because even when people are saying they are camping the runner, and are sitting right in the cave waiting for him to spawn, I have killed him numerous times. He wanders along the south zone border past both grimmling caves, so when he has wandered near our cave(both 1 and 2), my group has killed him. We've camped in the entrance to either of the caves and sometimes catch his place holders, an orefinder and geomancer, as they wander nearby.

The grimling DOES pop in the cave, but quickly wanders out of the cave into the path you mention. If you don't have your eyes open, or if he doesn't aggro you, he'll go out to where you have seen him. You may have seen him pop elsewhere, I certainly cannot say that doesn't happen occasionally (though not frequently. Just cause you've seen him roaming or popping elsewhere doesn't mean he doesn't most frequently spawn in the cave. This is one of the most predictable spawns in the game.

The ones that miss him are probably following the above post telling them to sit on the big rock on the left as you enter tunnel to GF. If you stand or sit right next to the 2 rocks on the right AT THE ENTRANCE, you'll get him every time. I've gotten him that way several times now. I used to sit on the rock, and missed him from time to time when I didn't happen to hit track before someone else spotted him. Standing next to the rocks on the right, he agroes on me every time. This was pointed out for me by Fallin, who apparently lives in the tunnel to GF :)

He does not always spawn every 90 minutes. I was there for 3 hours and 45 minutes at least, arriving about 15 minutes after the last one was killed by a friend (so 4 hours total from last spawn) and he never spawned. I was checking track every time it came up in case he didn't actually spawn in the tunnel at Grimling Forest zone, but he simply never spawned.

Just chucked two Draughts of Fire (650-ish damage) at him and he was dead. No problem channeling through his hits.

I have done this quest 8 times now but finally solod the runner for the last two @ lvl 40.

He cant be snared or rooted (neither can the Darkwing bats there!) so I thought it'd be impossible to do alone.. and trying to kite without snare developed into mucho adds..

Anyway.. I just stood toe to toe and nuked him while praying that I could channel past his hits.
Fury of Air is a fast cast plus I have focus spell haste II from my tunic and he went down before I lost 2 bubs of health. /grins

My agility being 114 might have helped avoid the hits a bit as well ...( not that its THAT high but every bit helps)

The pouch CAN'T be put in a backpack.. but strangely enough it CAN be placed in a large sewing kit :)

Another tip fr you Druids:
Lessor Succor will save you alot of time. Right after you Kill the runner use succor and you'll wind up at the katta zone:)

The runner conned black to me at 34th level. I can also verify that he spawns somewhere in the tunnel that zones into Grimling Forest. He ran past me without aggroing, much to my surprise. 36th ranger, 34th wizard and 34th bard had absolutely no trouble taking him down.

the bricks can be split down with a chisel in a forge, I think its a chisel anyway, my cleric guildy was doin the work. Acrylia can be used for just about any tradeskill, I had him making me a studded acrylia cloak. The reason small pieces are more sought after and 50pp, where large bricks are 100pp or so is because there is a good chance you will fail when splitting them down, and most things you need to split them down, so they would rather just have the small pieces and not have to worry about wasting acrylia failing splits.

Runner spawns every 90 minutes a few steps from the Grim forest zone line. NOT THE GRIMLING Orefinders caves.

Between the zone line to GF and the mouth of this cave there is an elbow in the tunnel. That is where this ugly cuss spawns.

The Laborer is the one that spawns deep inside the furthest west grimling orefinder cave.

both of these seem to drop a statistically better ratio of Acryla. All orefinders and Grol Baku and Crag Ligi Aliens have a "chance" of dropping Acryla of any size. Don't sell small to merchants as they sell to players for around 50 plat each.

Actually this guy does spawn in the Ore Caves.

I was camping ore one day for about 6 hrs and he spawned in place of the Laborer. Once in 6 hrs isnt a good ratio, so Im guessing hes a rare spawn here...

Possibly more common at the Forest Line. (cant confirm that)

Specifically, you get the pattern from Rallic Aristos in Katta Castellum. Hand him the pouch this guy drops, he hands you back the Rallic Pack Pattern.

Rallic Pack

OK, here's the Rallic pack Quest. I've done it twice now, coz after a 23hr straight run, in a momnet of delerium i destroyed my Rallic pack instead of my CP, LOL!! (it hurt). First time: I go to hallowshade, (get bound in kitty city) (ranger ~40th) The first thing on my list is a Perfect owlbear pelt, i figure ill hit the caves and eventually get one. I walk out of the kitty city, and i see an owlbear, kill it...perfect pelt LOL luck. So head over to shadoweaver's thicket to kill some Xakra silkworms for shadeling silks. I need 8 silks total. 2 silks makes one thread, 3 threads makes one chord. You need one chord and one thread (8silks). Xakra's are easy and everywhere, this is a newbie zone. Tracking is a plus, but not necessary. I suggest you bring a LARGE SEWING kit with you, in case you fail either the threads or chord, you are right there to make them again. After you have the thread, chord, and pelt head to Tenebrous Mts (nasty place). When you zone in cut left along the south wall, and travel west. You will eventually come to the first of the grimling mines. OK the first time i did this quest, the runner was up right away. He practically walked over to the zone for me). He was a little tough, no problem tho for a 40th wood-elf ranger of Tunare) Not especially fast for a "runner". Got the pouch (always drops), and went west to the Katta Castellum zone, where Rallic resides. I turned the pouch into rallic, i got the pattern and some xp. OK, before i started this quest i had never tailored anything, i went and trained 17 points in tailoring at my guild. ( Rallic pack appears to be 17 trivial, i have made 3 now no failures, on my server they aren't no drop pattern or packs) So now i have everything... I combine the pattern, perfect owlbear pelt, shadesilk thread, shadesilk chord...voila Rallic pack.

OK, the second time i did it, will be of more use to people, coz it involved camping things. The first quest i did in under 2 hours and was EXTREMELY lucky to have everything waiting for me). First a friend of mine and I went to the owlbear caves to look for perfect owlbear pelts. I was curious as to how long it would take, coz i got sooo lucky getting one on my first kill before i thought. We cleared the entire cave, and cleared the two main room 2 times each, wanted a named owlbear to pop, which he did. In that time we got 4 perfect owlbear pelts, maybe 2 hours tops. So not too bad to get) BUT, i was 43 at this point and they were green to me, still hitting for up to 88! OK we then moved on to Xakra silk worms again, other people were hunting them so they were sparser this time. For about 30 mins not one Xakra popped ( ihad failed three chords in a row (18silks total ouch!!) so i had to stay a bit). I started thinking they had PH's so i killed EVERYTHING. Still none popped. Then all of a sudden i was tracking like 6 then 8 then 10. They just have a cycle. So if they arent there wait, or go to another part o fthe quest and come back.
Finally back to Tenbrous Mts, for that runner. Will i be so lucky to see him when i zone in again...nay. So my friends and I (43 druid, 41 sexy cleric) head over to the grimling mines to camp some orefinders knowing how sought after acrylia is. We campd these beasts for about 2 hours, in that time the runner popped twice, he pops outside and to the right of the cave, and then walks towards the mouth of the cave, killed him there twice. Grabbed the pouch, went to Katta got the pattern and made apack for both me and my druid friend) WOOHOO i can carry loot again!!! This is all you need to know)

Well the nice "A Grimling Runner Backstabs you for 164 points of damage." was quite an awakening to this druid, that I was fighting a rogue that could not be rooted or snared.

Somehow I got some adds and well ended up as fertalizer. Luckily a pally a couple min later ran across my corpse. We have all had those days that nothing goes right, then a bright light at the end of the tunnel appears.

Thank you to the Paly who rezzed me. Was only 5 people in the zone including myself and you were nice enough to take time to rez me.

I will have my revenge.

Ok, I am a poor ass 31 cleric, and my friend is a moderately well equipped 32 rogue, no way we should be able to take this guy I'm thinking, well, we did. It took every ounce of strength and tactic we could muster, but it worked. Having him repeatedly walk into a cave wall with 10% life after my rogue friend had to zone with even less life helped, though ;) I won the roll, but he'll be getting his in, oh, about 80 minutes from now.

As far as my "l33t" tactic, which, as far as I know, I havent seen anyone else ever use (though im sure tons have) was to have him say UP! when his BS was up, then I would attempt to stun him (31 vs 35, not all landed, of course), and when it worked, he whips around and backstabs the biatch. Mucho helpful, as the french would say. (that last part was a joke, my friends).

Oh, and he never even touched me :)

ok so I'm just a warrior and I don't have snare so I don't miss it when it's gone, but why the big deal over the snare/root resists? is this guy exceptionally fast on his feet? does he take off like spirit of cheetah or what?

just asking cause I'm planing on taking his bag away, but I'm worried now that if he IS fast on his feet that he'll run and I'll lose him (I don't have j-boots...SUE ME)

No need to worry much about this guy, he doesn't run very fast at all (outran him easily with sow, and he practically slowed to a crawl when I slapped him and sent him running). Only thing you need to keep in mind is that you could get some very nasty adds in this zone if you don't take him down before he gets too far.

About non-sow run speed I'd say, 1200hp or thereabouts, hit in the 70s when I met him. Lightblue to a 51, so level 35 sounds about right. Those of us who can't take a beating can kite him along the zone wall (watching out for nasties all the while), melee types can just whack him.

I just killed him with a group of lvl 29 char's (eru wiz, halfling dru, bar rog, ogr war, hie clr) BTW he's a rouge, cause he hit my wizzie for 70, 234(backstab), then 84 before the rest of the group jumped him. My wizzie was standing inside the tunnel that zones to grim forest on the left wall looking out of the tunnel, so I'm thinking that is his spawn spot. He dropped a large brick of acrylia ore, a small piece of acrylia ore and the runners pack, of course. His approx. HP's were just under 1200.

pyrrhotite sample is for a faction only quest in Katta. One of the guys in the tunnels near the bank wants the sample for an experiment he is doing. No reward, just some plus Katta faction and negativee cot faction.
