Wolves

Being a Necro and having ok faction with the Vampires in the castle, I was exploring it one day when the wolves came in, walked up to the second floor, lined up and all turned into named coterie. I followed them out when they left and each one went to a coterie outpost, and took up position in a building.

Dont know if it means anything but saw the wolves go up to the castel and light both torches on ether side. Both had gone out for some reason. Prob cuz we killed the named inside.

Bedlavar, the named Coterie at the Coterie outpost north of Katta zone, also turns into a black wolf. Just an FYI.

Me being a lvl 51 mage and two guildmates, 48 shamen and a 44 mage, where camping the outpost just north of katta zone when one of these wandered to me while i was med'ing conned blue to me and proceeded to hit me for 100+ when I tried to move away so pet could get aggro it finished me off with a nice little 361 pt backstab...kinda funny how a mutt with no weapons OR hands could backstab....must have some really sharp claws

yeah it would be odd if real wolves could back stab, but just keep in mind its a game. I know I get confused too.

In RL, a wolf pack will kind of surround the target with more to one side, making the prey face them and leaving one or so to sneak around bhind it. Then the one(s) behind the prey will bite out the achillies tendon (ouch!). Prey falls down, it's all over...

Same tactic if the prey runs...

So I guess in RL, wolves DO do a kind of backstab.

They can backstab because these are really vampyres in wolf form.
Wolves

They spawn in threes, one black, and two grays, the wolves are Vampyres in another form. They drop fangs, blood, and ashes, as well as the skins.

They seem to be a 30-45 min spawn, and will spawn outside then roam into the castle, or spawn inside and roam out.

There are three chumpy, named Vampyres there when the wolves are not around, I suspect that the wolves go into the fort, and turn into the named Vamps.

I generally hunt to the left of the main entrance to fort, kinda close to the wall. Don't get too close though, or the Centurion that spawns inside will aggro on you, thru the wall.

Most times when hunting there, the wolves won't add, they'll just walk past and go inside. They have a fairly small aggro radius, like most mobs here.
these guys are mean adds when they help the coterie

I had a full group at coterie fort...only death from adds was when the NWO WOLF Pack *NEW WOLF ORDER...just kidding with the wrestling name...lol* jumped in and decided to help the two coterie pull we had. NOT GOOD...At first we didn't know what the hell was happening...chanter was trying to mez the wolves but couldn't due to the fact they were casting on us with aoe's and disrupting our casts. Cleric ran to zone, my 51 pally got owned, 46 war owned, 50+ chanter owned, and 50+ shammy owned. Most of my group died from the wolf pack. They are nasty adds when unexpected. Considering we had been pulling the fort all night and they come walking right out and crash our little party with nukes...doh But we got some sweet loot before that...definitely a must to camp the fort. Just watch out for the NWO
Backstab

As a bard i like hunting vampires. I usually kite them. Sometimes i get an add of a bat or one of the sonic wolf things, so i charm it and send it in to the coteries to get rid of it in short order.

Well, I had a pull of three coterie (which is nice since they wont get at the end if there is more than one) and this black wolf was with them. I charmed the wolf to get rid of it and low and behold this thing took out 3 coterie at the same time. It popped me in the back for 345 when i let it get to close, so it can backstab. It didn't cast spells.

Attacked these wolves and found out that the grey wolves have necro abilities and can gate. i received a HT from one so i assume the Black one is an SK. Killed all three and received a no drop Vampire dust (quest i assume). Other than than pretty crap lootz. they didnt have a whole heck of alot of HP maybe 4k. but like i said they can gate which stinks.

Wolfs are Coterie

I am non KOS to Coterie. Was in Coterie fort where 3 wolves walked up to 2nd floor...suddenly they cast a spell and transformed into named coterie. Kinda cool if you ask me.

Saw this wolf heading up a pack of 2 other grey wolves. They travel the zone together and assist the Coterie.

Be careful of the wolves. They arent really wolves. they are something else using wolf form. When they jumped me they were casting all sorts of nice spells on me.
