Blood Starved Wolf
# Jul 31 2006 at 6:21 PM Rating: Decent
(These wolves are triggered by someone passing near a "trap" spot - there's one on the path near the entrance to the Netherbian Lair, another near the path to Sanctus Seru, and another near a pool about halfway between those 2 spots. There's undoubtedly more.... they seem to reset pretty fast, which can be handy.)

The LOC for these trap spots are:
1590.95, -155.82
1237.29, 1148.00
7.34, 1460.01

I was hunting zelniaks yesterday. These things keep poping up and chase me to the zone. They all conned red to me at 34 (about 3 or 4 in a row).

I was pulling zelniaks and large zelniaks without many close calls. Once in awhile I would get up the nerve to take a few swats at the wolves and blood-starved wolves. For a 38 paladin with a BABS and mostly fine plate, these were quite nasty. I had to run every time, and the battles weren't even close. Simply put, they hit very hard.

For those who can fear animals, these wolves are not so much. However if you plan to melee them before you hit 40, you'll most likely need a healer.

can someone tell me please?

amiable to ranger

But if you're fighting one wolf others will add unlike the zelniaks. I think the blood starved one is aggressive as well as the others listed

Normally, no - but beware the 'named' wolves (Prowling, Silvery, Ferocious, etc.), because they'll agro on *anyone* - and if you happen to be running from a 'named' wolf and you come within range of a 'Wolf' or a 'Blood Starved Wolf' while your being chased (even if you're a Druid or a Ranger), it will agro on you as well.

Killed about a dozen wolves and got one. Didn't even know they dropped this item (was just getting tattered wolf hides). A 38 bard with a decent percussion instrument equiped can solo them with Selo's Chain, Tuyen's Chant of Fire, and Fufil's Curtailing Chant. Just leash them with Selos and dot away. They will drop in a 2-3 minutes. Does get kinda boring, but the solo exp is nice and there is no downtime between kills. Just drink lots of coffee.

I've killed some of these blood-starved wolves with my level 40 magician. They were all "formidable" blue to me, no variation at all.

They are convenient mobs, I will say. I med up in the building at the Netherbian zone, step outside, and often see my next wolf just standing in the little gully/path right out front. :)
Just another MOB
# Feb 12 2002 at 6:24 AM Rating: Default
These wolves are nothing special. if you stop in DS while in the grassy areas, these will spawn. As long as you keep moving you aren't in any real danger but always be wary of them. I killed at least 10 of them while in DS and none of them dropped anything at all, not even a pelt. I was a lvl 43 pally and they all conned Dk Blue, hit for max high 80's and hit very fast. I root/heal/stun to solo them. Great XP in DS but if you are looking for loot look elsewhere. The Tribal dudes drop zilch, not even coins. Some drop crap weapons worth a few plat but rarely. They may possibly drop some quest items as I know nothing yet of quests on the moon. Just be prepared to kill 100 of them for it or get real lucky.
level range

My 34 sk killed several of these the other day. all conned blue, so 36-36 is wrong

RE: level range
# Feb 12 2002 at 6:26 AM Rating: Default
Are you certain they were 'a blood starved wolf' and not another type? Because as my post states above I killed at least 10 and all of them conned Dk Blue to a lvl 43. If they are blue to a 34 they would most likely be lt blue to me at 43 and hit for 50-70. These wolves hit for 90 sometimes and triple attack. They are mean ;.
RE: level range
# Apr 05 2002 at 1:14 PM Rating: Default
I've seen this too.

Last night I had a blood starved wolf spawn on me while wandering through the area to the left coming out of the NL zone building. It conned blue to me at 34. Perhaps the 'triggered' wolves are of a lower level?
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 06 2002 at 9:53 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) f00king thing was owning my 42 sk.. that **** doesnt fly it hit way too f00king hard and resisted my snare like 3 times, and resisted fear, and maxed constantly.

It's very important to them that you don't have fun!
Getting him to spawn
# Jan 24 2002 at 5:26 PM Rating: Default
As near as I can tell, this guy spawns on the path to Sanctus Seru, in a way much like that dorf that spawns on the ramp to Kael in Eastern Wastes. At a certain point on the path (not far out from the zone line) you will see a message about a blood starved wolf springing from behind a bush. I had gotten the message several times, and ignored it because no mob popped. However, once I stopped just as I got it to pull something else, and this mob spawned right on top of me. I'm not sure if it was me standing on the spot for a moment, or just that it happened to spawn that time I got the message and would have if I'd stopped or not, but this guy is tough. I'm a level 35 beastlord, and he ate my level 30 pet in about 30 seconds. He was hitting me for a max of 80+, and I ended up running for the zone line. I'll come back when I get my level 39 pet and he should be easier. Want to see what he drops.

I saw something called a "proweling wolf" or something like that in Dawnshrowd. I'm amiable to all other wolves I've seen there, but this one conned "ready to attack" and aggrod me while I was fighting something. Im going back to look for this elusive beast (had to run :(...)and try and get some more info and screenie for the page.
Oddly named wolves
# Jan 12 2002 at 11:47 PM Rating: Decent
Wolves, Zelinaks, and Stonegrabbers all have their oddly named variants. These mobs form a major part of a few of the Luclin armour quests. Not sure about Rockhoppers - these have odd named variants too but the quest items they drop dont seem to be related to the armour quests as the other mobs. Often the odd-named rockhoppers are deep in the tunnel so I haven't been able to easily get them out =)

Being a ranger really pays off here. Not only are you able to spot these mobs as they pop, you're able to fear kite them too. (Ok stonegrabbers can't be panic animal fear kited - and are tougher, you might need a hand unless you're 47ish+)

There are DOZENS of odd-named mobs, each mob to their own luclin-armour-piece. So if you're looking for a particular piece, expect a long wait. After a couple of weeks of levelling in this zone I only saw a couple of the same named mobs twice. Luckily all the pieces are tradeable (just lore).

My ranger cons indifferently or better to stonegrabbers, wolves and zelinaks - so I don't get aggro. However, the oddly named mobs have a fairly large aggro radius and DID attack me. This along with track helped me single these things out.

Most of the stuff that dropped were Marks. Lots of marks, and other pieces too. I have a shedload of these in the bank. I'm only missing one piece for the Ranger mantle, a temporal sack. I'm close to the BP too, needing only a Tro Jeg Eye and Tro Jeg Brain, any reliable information on this would be appreciated. I'm guessing the tro jeg stuff drops in scarlet...

While I'm on the subject of the luclin armour quests, these are the following zones I have got marks or other from (all from oddly named variants of usual zone mobs):

Dawnshroud
Tenebrous
Twilight Sea ('ancient' sea turtle for example)
Grimling
Scarlet

Hope some of this helps. Let me know if you need a list of some of the marks that dropped from which mob, i took screenshots of most of the loots.

It's late so excuse the incoherent blithering from that post. Just to clarify - it is only the quest parts that are dropped, not the armour itself.
