Hopper vs. Sambata... /sigh
# Feb 26 2008 at 10:57 PM Rating: Decent
I'm sure this is no help to anyone wanting information about stuff in this zone. However, I truly wish that the people who kill the Ancient hopper would stick around to kill the top-dog Sambata mob. It is very annoying to need hides for tradeskills and have to kill PH's for hours trying to get rid of the Sambata just to begin collecting hopper hides. It is a simple matter of "NOT PULLING" the Ancient. But, like women and shiny objects... players see a "Grey" hopper that's much bigger than the puny little brown hoppers and.... Ooooohhhhh I gotta have that!!!
I know there are a few other zones that the cute little cuddly hoppers inhabit, but anyone who actually USES hopper hides in tradeskills knows this is the best place for drops.

I wen to DSP to hunt for the shard there the other night, I found the caves were already camped by someone there farming for Rockhopper hides. I asked if any shards had droped, and he replied with "I've seen more shards then useable hides tonight". Naturally I got a little excited about the possibility of getting this over with quickly, and asked if he would send a tell when anther one droped. Befor I could even hit the "ENTER" key in the key board whith my request, he tells me that another had droped:) While I'm waiting for the time to expire to alow me to loot the corps, 2 more droped for him, unbelievable you say, I would have thought so too, had I not been there myself. Looted and off to The Scarlet Deasert:)

Good job, It was similar for me. Someone pulled it to the NL house, full of life, Darkness, Fear DOTS, and DD'd it to death, re-fearing the whole time and refreshing DOT's. Amazing amount of Hit Points. It was red to me, a 38 Necromancer. Was quite satisfying because two levels ago the same thing happened to me with one that rested fear and I was the one who died in that fight
The Dawnhoppers
# Aug 03 2002 at 11:22 AM Rating: Default
Just 2 hours ago, I was in a grp hunting shrooms and wolves at NL when some guy runs into the hut and zones. We looked over the hill from which he ran from. At that second, we saw something running at SoW speed: A Rockhopper. Everyone conned it; Red to all. We thought about zoning but we had a shroom on us. When I targeted it, it seemed it was lowered to 3 bubbles of health. We cleared the shroom, the cleric healed everyone and boom;

"A Rockhopper claws YOU for 105 points of damage. A Rockhopper claws YOU for 105 points of damage."

Boom, I've taken 210 dmg out of 700. I run for a pillar, cleric heals me, tanks are duking it out with Hopper. 7 minute fight (Everyone was 30-35) and hopper fell (also did his final blow in which, he has a 50% chance of doing extra damage to some1 b4 he dies). We got the xp since guy zoned and, oddly, this popped up:

Your faction with the Sambata Tribe has gotten better
Your faction with the Dawnhoppers has gotten worse.

We know about the Sambata faction, but noone has mentioned of this "Dawnhoppers" faction. OOCed it out, everyone that answered said they never heard of it. Regular Rockhopper, anyone know about this faction? Smiley: confused

Thx!

Know that as you pull deeper, you will encounter a different Rockhopper. He appears a little bigger but what makes him special is, like the named ones, he can Spit, so do be careful pulling him, running thru the tunnels without site is...well lets just say I ended up going the WRONG way, hehehe.

Good Luck In There...Stay Safe

For those who are not aware... the Spit spell they cast is a Blind spell.

Well camping shard for VT key found rockhopper bigger than most and pulled. It also spit, and in addition was immune to changes in its runs speed. Not sure but my bet would be only reason for this is that I believe it was ph for Age Old Rockhopper, even though the other ones I'd killed prion to this had not been big or immune to changes in run speed. Whatever.

For a few weeks now we have not been able to find any hoppers in DS on the Zebuxoruk server. Are they there on other servers.

The rockhopper cave has probably been taken over again by the Sambata tribe. This ends when the tribal leader is killed. Then the hoppers will return. Alternatively, when the Ancient Rockhopper is killed, the Sambatas take over again.

Hi! I am only lvl 12, but while looking for ruined wolf pelts to work on tailoring skill someone said that, although he didn't have the pelts I was looking for, I could have some others. He gave me 9 rockhopper hides. They're just called A Rockhopper Hide, and I now have only 8 after a failed attempt to make a cloak. The question is what do I do with them?

Thanks in Advance,

quad
# Mar 16 2002 at 9:25 PM Rating: Default
these quad beautifully if you go right exiting the cave from the opening. You may wanna get the resist up thou cause you don't wanna have one stun you on the way out. Nothing worse then having your quad and 3 adds behind you as you get stunned. Now as a wizard if you do get adds, just quad like you normally would. When I am done with my 4 I run to the zone wall and camp. Can't wait till 59, I'm gonna do some real pulling then. I bet I can do two quads in one with Jyll's Wave of Heat, imagine 638x8=5104 with a cost of 342 mana thats 14.9 damage/mana. 2 second casting time so I don't think you'll need to snare. Thats 2552 in one second, how much damage can a monk do in one second? BTW at 52 I have roughly a 65% chance to do max damage with very few resists. Granted at 59 you won't gain exp but you will get the hides which are important if you are a tailor. Good luck you all
RE: quad
# Jun 14 2002 at 10:41 AM Rating: Default
For one thing, Jylls wave of heat isnt that great for quadding. Sure, you can hit for alot of damage and a low casting time, but if you dont have SoTF (epic), then your going to end up using alot of regents to put up a DAS (manaskin, diamondskin, etc.). Yes, most of the time mobs wont interrupt your casting but they can eat at the DAS quickly considering its only 800 and lvl 60. A better idea would be to hold multiple quad lines with the pillar spells, for theyre alot safer and can have a better mana ratio over the long run. The only problem with the Jyll's spells is some have a long recovery time, which can leave you in the thick of a pile of mobs without anything to truly smack em into the ground.

The hp on these guys
# Mar 03 2002 at 3:41 AM Rating: Decent
From my calculations on my logs that I have, these rockhoppers have between 3500 and 4000 hp. The one I calculated was like right in the middle of the cons and had 3688 hp, give or take 50 (my final hit).

I'm a level 56 ranger, and I said I wouldn't be getting any AA until I hit 60, but then I found then guys and I'm gonna take advantage of the AWESOME exp of soloing here until I get either 6 or 18 AA points (probably 6, I'll get bored, hehe). I already have one point, and it took like all of five hours hunting here to get it. (Somebody please tell me if that's too long for an AA point, I'm not sure never done any AA leveling before, hehe.)

Anyways, great place, especially for soloing rangers like myself, until somebody kills the aged old rockhopper and makes the stupid sambatas spawn, grrr.

i dont have a high enough character to do AA yet, but i am pretty sure that the amount of xp needed to get one AA point is about the same amount to get from lvl 51 to 52. i hope that helps you come to an answer for your question of if 5 hours is too long to get an aa point
RE: The hp on these guys
# Oct 14 2002 at 7:24 AM Rating: Default
you get AA points at same lvl of exp that your character is....with the exception being lvl 60....at lvl 60 you gain at lvl 51 exp lvl...thats why you should work on getting lvl 60 first....then work on AA points
RE: The hp on these guys
# Oct 14 2002 at 11:11 AM Rating: Decent
I don't think this is right. I have a handful of level 54 to 56 characters. When I switch to AA it moves faster at 54 then at 56, and both move faster then normal xp. So, I'd say all AA moves at lvl 51. No need to wait for level 60 to start, it's not like AA will drop after 59 down 9 levels for you. It's kind of nice doing an AA point in the mid 50's cause it moves a lot faster. Nice break from the slow moving xp.

A lev 61 Druid (I am 58 now) would get 1/4 blue per kill in PoN, while I get 3/4 blue (AA) per kill. My good friend (Former guild leader of Eximos Rallos) said to do it at 60, but I suspect he said that because it just might be easier to kill things at that level. As for time/aa point, shoot for 1 1/2 hours per point, and work from there. Some frequenters in PoN that AA all the time get 5-6 points in about the same amount of hours. Some have 100 AA points. Wow. Makes me wonder what the new players (YES there ARE new players still!) will think of this mess when they hit the EQ age of reason (lev55 you say to yourself, JESUS).

Rockhoppers and Sambata Tribesmen
# Feb 18 2002 at 3:35 AM Rating: Excellent
In the caves there are 2 rooms where named spawns. The farthest room has 1 (insignificant named), and the farthest RIGHT room spawns significant named.

The Rockhopper leader is "An Age Old Rockhopper". The Sambata leader is "Sambata Tribal Leader Gar".

Killing either of these will populate the cave with the other mob type (rockhopper to sambata or sambata to rockhopper).
Ranger xp on rockhoppers
# Feb 18 2002 at 3:32 AM Rating: Decent
Yup, you would. I recently soloed these alot snare/fear to earn xp for AA points, and as you can see im lvl 58 and though most of these are light blue, a few green and very few blue, these are still good xp when soloed.

Especially because you can kill tons of them snare/fear before having to rest.

In a word: yes.

Careful, though. When Fear breaks they like to hit for double 70-100s. Best to chaincast Fear and not let it break.

Times of rockhopper spawn?
# Jan 30 2002 at 7:39 AM Rating: Default
is there a certain time these things come out or what.. i just went there in search for Hides and found none in the DP zone. and the atlas maps says the cave is rockhopper or tribesman.. so is there a time when its rock and a time when its tribe or hows that work?
RE: Times of rockhopper spawn?
# Jan 30 2002 at 7:15 PM Rating: Good
It's spawn dependent.

What happens is if someone or a group go in and kill the leader Rockhopper (not sure on name) then the rockhoppers will despawn and the Tribals will spawn. And vice vera.

So, the only way to get the rock hoppers back is to find a way to kill the leader of the tribe. I think there's a quest involved in some way.

It's very annoying for rangers who are trying to fear kite rockhoppers only to find the tribals there.
