42 druid - Junglebug - Terris-thule

1.greater healing (almost always)
2.Sow
3.stinging swarm
4.Lightning blast (Had regen in here for a while, because when quading the HP rebuild is nice for those grazes) (swapped this slot a lot)
5.highest snare
6.highest root
7.panic animal (much faster cast to save my butt, low mana)
8.Begile animal

I have been stuck int he 40's for some time. I really did not want to do Dwarven socials. I tried DL (a bit too early for some) and I tried even to Quad Lizard Men in Feerrott ... Awesome XP and money but very dangerous with nukers. I broke down, Did Dwarves untill 42... and found myself still stuck.

So I did Zelneks in Dawn Shrowd peaks (DSP). Pretty much from ANY zone point heading in the middle is a dip into a valey. Once you learn it you can hunt in the valley with reasonable safety. There are about 2 Lightcrawlers at any given time in that area. Wolves were amiable but would agro if I had another wolf on me, that INCLUDES a blood thirsty. I prefered to go up to the top of the hill, north side... (i forgt zone) there is a clearing JUST north of the valley. Very nice space. and its so scenic.

I have 207 wisodom and I could quad them to submission and still have about 40 mana. There is a GOOD and a BAD to quading these. The good is they are not social, no adds. You can pull right next to another. The bad thing is, most social mobs will persue untill dead if with others of there kind. Like orcs or beetles. They will stay nicely grouped, and following even at 2% HP.

So when I say 40M after submission. What I mean is they stopped persuing me at about 17% health. and so I had free standing straglers. If I was very good I could line up one chasing me and nuke them both on perfect timming.... but usually just ended up dotting them or sharming a 5th mob to clean up. If I had BOO-BOO the bear this woul dbe his job.

On a side note, I was grouped with a 36 Beastlord on about 2/3 of the way through my night. less down time, I thought. I was going to have him dot the fresh snared, and then I nuke less. Bad idea, their dots create mucho agro. so I charmed a wolf. Best pet I have had in a long time. and a DIRE WOLF out there, also blue ATE the blue zelneks alive, without losing much hp at all.

So then we had 2 pets and dots. Still 4 gave blue and it was FAST. very. I hit 43 and im a gold into it. Charm hunting (at least with a partner) may be faster. Less down time, more mana.. the onyl bad thing is a charmed wolf, breaking charm brings adds. So be weary. The panic animal is low mana, and right after it lands you can charm. you have a feared pet for a bit, but hes yours. Also can fear kite / charm with that setup

these are great exp for at least lvl30-35 druid solo. i use the snare-root-immolate-crud-drones/swarm-blast-root method to solo them... it helps to be c3'd 100% of the time for this method -- beasty crack is also helpful. the blast you use depends on whether you or doing single or multi-kiting and what lvl you are. i usu use either lightning strike or combust for them

After hunting small, regular and large zelniaks in Dawnshroud for several levels, I saw only regular drops such as zelniak meat. However, tonight I looted a "Meteor Jewel" off a large zelniak. At the time of this writing, Allakhazam includes a "Moon Jewel" in the loot list, but not this "Meteor Jewel". It seems to be a part of the Luclin Armor Quests.

The larges zelniak do seem to have a slightly higher MR than the normal ones. Heres my advice for fighting: I pull with arrow, immediately snare, move back a bit fire another arrow while waiting for spell repop and then fear. If you have never fear kited it wont take long to get the timing down. I have a decent ac 850+ and I get hit in the 70's sometimes. The great thing is these do not gang so you can pull them all over each other. The only drawback is the damned lighcrawlers which seem to know when I have 20% health and decide to jump in while im fighting. SIGH.

Zelniak meat is used in the following quest:
Zelniak Meat in Sanctus Seru.
Good way to raise your faction here. But it lowers your Katta faction.
Then again, you can always hunt Coterie to raise Katta back up.
If you want to do the Earring of Veracity quest in Sanctus, you are going to need faction anyhow.

Working on the 4th earring now :)

I know that the enraged, tenacious and other named zelniaks drop items for twilight armor. However does anyone know if the large zelniaks are phs for the named ones or do the named ones spawn on their own. I agree that these things are good for Rangers. Gotta like that Panic Animal.

I've been soloing the zelniaks for a while now. I have gotten some drops from the named ones such as embedded platinum figurine, and some bone thing (can't remember name). I also got an Astral crystal drop from a large zelniak. Anyone have any clue what this stuff is used for?

Check the Twilight Armour section under Quests off the main menu of this site. It explains which items come from which mobs and what they are for. Gems like the Astral ones seem to drop maybe 1 in a 100 from zelniak's and other mobs.

tough mobs !

i have been quadding zelniaks (small, a, and large) in Dawnshroud and boy are the Large ones toughies! They have significantly higher MR (resist 1/4 @lv35 whereas the other zelniaks never resist) and I usually have to melee these off after I finish the other mobs in the quad

they hit for 70, so dont let these knick ya when you're casting!
tenacious zelniak

was hunting these and came across a Tenacious Zelniak. It dropped a lore magic item called an Engraved star saphire statue. This mob was about as tough as a large zelniak but with a bit better MR. does amyone have any more info on this? Tks.

nope, however i have fought these and they seem to follow the druid solo pattern i listed above rather nicely... if they have such a high mr how come i haven't recieved very many resists?

Yeah, I didn't notice any particularly high resists from these mobs with my Mage or Necro in the high 30s or low 40s: though the Mage was often pulling with the Malise debuff which would have helped.

The named Zelniaks like the Tenacious and its relatives _did_ have high resists though: they'd often resists Mage nukes if I didn't debuff first, and they'd often resist the Darkness snare spells and break Fear early for the Necro.
