Ive Been PLing a few toons in this area for the past week and a half and killed the PH over 30 times and have yet to see him spawn... Ive had some bad luck with the RNG before but this is silly. Im glad Im not actually there for the mask or else Id be pulling my hair out.
Update: Ok so the first 30 kills was an estimate.... very close based on xp earned but an estimate... the last 37 kills was an exact figure! It took me very nearly 67 kills before he showed his face, and then he dropped the gloves.
PS He cant be slowed.

I've killed him myself about 6 or 7 times so far and have yet to see him drop the mask. I'm about to give up.

I got the Mask today with my bard... It took me about 15+ hours camping this guy.. didnt leave his room that whole time.. I got him to spawn alot... just gotta be patient and lucky

From the ZI go ahead on the first intersection go on the left, when u find the wall go on your left you enter in a small room with 3 mobs, the door in the middle of the front wall it's what you search for. U have 2 options to pass it: 1) Rogue/Bard with 210 picklock. 2) Levitate on one of the 2 pilars on the both side of the door (shrink yourself, don't work if you aren't shrinked) climb one of them, then run toward the door, once above the door duck and look down. You are in. U find 2 mobs on your way. Where the first mob are there is a trap, i think it is unresistable, got it on my 80 cleric cured with Remove Course rank 9 (but i think can be cured with a lot less). Once passed the 2 mobs u find a wall turn on ur right, up the ramp and u find the room you are search for. The room have a ledge and a pit, on the ledge there are 4 mobs, in each corner (no need to clear them), in the pit there are 8 mobs, 2 in each corner. The Assasin spawns at the opposite side of the pit, to the left of the ramp. With the cleric used "Vow of Victory", "Ward of Requital" and hammer pet and he dropped easy. Have the mask for my bard on the 7th spawn in 3 days (16 hours of camping). Hope it helps someone =)

forgot to post this... the trap doesnt seem to that bad anymore... my rog (1.8k hp) got stunned and hit for 10 hp but no dot...
you must have hit some other poison trap because I had to gate out as a 72 rogue after triggering that poison trap near assassin spawn area - it was doing 168 pts of dmg per tick and the damned thing was lasting 20 minutes!! So I gated back to GL and got a cleric to cure me. I'm going to be disarming it this time around (duh!)

i spent 6 hrs camping this guy... 7 assassians no drop but other named in the area... Commander Zazuzh popped a few times and he drops a horse (i never got it) also just incase anyone is wondering... the floating over the door and sinking/crouching thing still does work... i got my lvl 76 mnk in (12.4k hp 2.3k ac) in there by doing that so i could get my mask for my rog (lvl 41)

everyone keeps saying that you can open doors without rogue, but as this mask is rogue / bard ....why bother farming the mask if you havent got one of them in grp.
if you have either in the grp, they can pick the lock anyways, so no need to cheat into the room

I have cleared this area 8x in a row and have yet to even see this mob show his face. Is there some PH or spawning mechanism that nobody has mentioned? I can't believe that after 8x clearing the room that he still hasn't spawned.

I have camped this mob for days now i have killed him several times and he has always spawned in the same place. When you enter room there are 8 mobs on the bottom of the floor walk across bottom of room and before you walk up ramp on the other side the mob just to the left is the PH. He can spawn as any shissar kill him and timer for respawn is 20 minutes.
There is no specific PH. He spawns to the left of the stairs every time. So just make sure that mob is down every time it spawns. Btw, levitating up one of the pole things on the side of the door and then running on top of the door, then looking down, crouching, and running forward works. Don't need a rogue for it, however, the trap could hury if you can't cure it. Rank 1 Radiant Cure will cure it. Was there for a couple hours tonight with a 56 Bard that dinged 57 and a 69 Shaman, only got him to spawn once, dropped gloves and book, no mask :(. Ah well back to waiting for him to spawn again...

What do you mean every time it spawns? Is there a spawn timer for this mob?
Well have been camping this room for over 48 hours /played. Has spawned around 10 times, has dropped gloves and book every single time, no mask yet.

Well, after 17 months of casual camping this thing, went there tonight, killed PH, next POP was Assassin, and he had the Mask, Scales, stinger and the book.

Got mask today after 4th assassin. got the lockpick gloves and the 3% does stack with the 2% from mechanized lockpicks.

Bro that secret worked awsome I now have a lvl 45 rogue with the mask. One problem is it requires lvl 46 to click it :) I'll just have to play him a bit more :).

You don't need a rogue to get past the door and i'll tell how to do it.
First thing you need is levitation, you then climb one of the posts on the side of the door and run over the door. Stand over the door while still levitated and you will slowly start to sink, when you stop sinking duck and look down and you will be able to enter the hallway.
Its the same thing you do to get to the mob that drops the Vots in the basement.
You don't need to summon your way through the door or get a rogue to open it for you just grab some sort of lev and you are set.

Just an FYI, it's possible and extremely easy to get thru this door without a rogue OR a summon trick or agro of any type. I managed to get a ranger, wizard, shaman, cleric and lvl 1 bard thru.

Been here two hours and ain't even seen this guy. Last time we were here 6 hours, popped 4 times, no mask. So frustrating! I really want my tail *grin* Haven't seen a Comm or the Disciple either, but have gotten plenty of elites, which I name as "mini-nameds" and 2 Comm's. No Zazuzh's key though, which bugs 'cause I already have Zherozsh's.
Getting through the door was pretty easy, using the summon through the wall trick. If you have more than just yourself though, it becomes kind of a pain to get everyone else summoned through. If it's more than just you, bring a rogue, at least for the door. =)
For the record, bards can sense and disarm any trap in Ssra, including the ones up by AL and HP. I've also had good luck with traps in LDoN's and MPG trials. Our skill is nowhere near as high as a rogue's, but it does the job. =)
EDIT: Finally got it, almost 3 hours later. First and only pop tonight. He's not slowable which made it a pain, and he also dropped the Testament.

This message is for all those "proud" rogues who think the world cant turn without them....FYI this is a bard mask and there is a way to get through without a "all powerful rogue" and u dont even have to go very far into the zone, i went in pulled off my lil trick (which i will be willing to share with any bard who sends me a tell ;t drinal.wolver) killed a couple PHers spawned assassin and bam got the mask all solo, all single pulls. So all u rogues who think u are needed in the camping of this mask ....u are wrong.

No acting.... just the crappy Mez summon trick through walls works great and was very easy, if u enter from the Grey and walk stright to the hall ahead of the entrence there is a secret lil opening on the left side of the hall with a fake door and there is a snake on the other side. stand up against it, aggro it, dps it, mez it, get summoned..... pretty easy any bard with a mez that makes the mob move when mez lands can camp this mask with ease. GL to all that's camping it atm.

are you ok ket? cause if im right, bards get pick lock to, maybe not as high but then again who cares, if you want to pick high lvl lovks then make a rogue or work up your AA's or something, dont think anyone here really cares about your "rogue bashing" so GL on any future attempts to dis rogues cause you think that you are better then them in some fashionable way, ohh and i hope you trip on your shoelaces!

Is the trap leading to the room where this fool spawns resistable? Magic/poison or other?

assuming you MUST have a rogue with you makes an @$$ out of you and m... well, just you really. i can get past almost any locked door in Ssra, and im a Mage. and before you assume you know anything, no not from /pet attack and sitting agro summon. alot of times my pet will stun and proc initially gaining taunt, so summon is not gonna happen. and no, im not going to share my trick, i like Ssra quiet tyvm. just wanted to dispell the myth that a rogue is needed to gain access to most areas in Ssra. also with some decent innate regen and HoT potions you can survive the HP portion of this dot np, only issue becomes mana, even with a c6 and SA and maxxed FT sitting was only netting 5 mana a tick, so after a time youre likely to run outta mana and youll just be sitting waiting for dot to time out and popping HoT potions every 2 mins ><

FYI,
Bards sense and disarm at half the skill of rogues (and even less for pick lock). I wouldn't run into a high level zone hoping that a bard senses and disarms for you. Bards are great just don't think that their rogue-type skills are going to help you with hard zones.

We took out Assassin this morning without a Rog present, got summoned thru the wall and I single pulled him using Pacify and a Bow. The mask dropped along with the book. The mask was going to rot but we were able to send tell to random Rogue a couple zones away and he made it in time. He also was kind enough to let us out of the room since the door was locked LOL.

first, go from grey zone, take door straight ahead, to the end, left, to the end. another left takes you to a little door, behind it are 3 (or at least 1) see invis snakes, kill them. in their room is another door, locked. get past it, into a hall way. at the opposite end of the hall way is a temple guard, behind him is the trap, disarm it. beyond him, very close by, are 2 other snakes, kill them. go through the hole in the wall, up the ramp, open door. you're there.
standing at the door looking in you'll see a ledge with a snake at each corner, and a pit with 8 snakes (2 per corner).
a shissar assassin spawns at the opposite side of the pit, to the left of the ramp, loc -275, +215...random. have had him pop 2 times in 5 hours.
on the other side of the opposite ramp, loc -275, +260, Disciple Zhorluhx spawns.
in the far right corner, on the outside ledge, Commander Zazuzh spawns, twice in 3 days.
personally, pacify is your friend. spawn time is 20 minutes on the nose, elites can randomly spawn anywhere (3 at once hurts, btw, non-mezzable by 65 bard). assassin is the only one non-slowable. none of the snakes walk when near dead, unless you kill them REALLLLLY slowly.

Great post! Directions were right on the money! Camped room for about 5 hours solo (( 1.5 71 rogue 400ish aa's no buffs 'cept for haste and healings potions)). Collection of illusions almost complete! Now off to Jaggedpine!

Escellent info. Only one slight error. The spawn time has been changed from 20 minutes on the nose to 19 minutes 30 seconds. I know, i know, small stuff but in the spirit of being precise .....

Guild went searching for Bane Weapons and Shards for VT Key, and we took a little field trip over to the Assassin because I wanted to get the mask. No luck, he dropped the Gloves and a Testament of Night
It's a no drop book that I can't seem to find any info on. The book is only 2-3 pages long and talks about some experiment on a Vah Shir and trying to make a god, or something along those lines. Anyone have any info?

I think it has to do with the Ssraezhians trying to turn a Vah Shir adventurer named Khati Shah into a God. The experiment went horribly wrong as you can see from the text above...Khati Shah escaped to Acrylia Caverns i guess, since he's the Boss their now, and harder than the Emp to kill. Results in a very nice earring/ring. Gotta kill this guy, Shissar Magister, one of 2 easy mobs in AC, and then Khati Sha... He's the last mob in the new Acrylia Ring. Protect 2 Cats in jail, and eventually 18skeletons (500+, mezzable) spawn. Kill all those, then Ward of Life spawns, then Ward of Death spawns, then Khati Sha. Tough for any guild not really at the Elemental level (not only in terms of equipment, but encounters).

This guy is badass, camped him with my friends for awhile for the kitty mask. Killed him around 7 times I believe, dropped the mask finally. He also dropped some gloves, almost every time, I think they were 3%+ for picklocks, and the scales. he hits for 200-450 around there. nasty little guy but worth it for the kitty mask :) meow! =^_^=

I appologize for having to make a double post on this, but was late last night and I missed a couple things.
The named mob that popped (blue at 54) was Commander Zazuzh who dropped Idol of Zauuzh's which i understand to be for use in a key quset for this zone. This item is nodrop. Also a few random mobs dropped 1 star ruby, and 2 rubys. 2 mobs randomly dropped a pure caster only range item with stats of 5 AC 50 HPs, again an item that was droppable probly good for a lvl 5 twink, most casters capable of getting to this room and holding the camp should already have better range items.

Heh, you should never assume that. I'm 65 and I just got rid of my Goranga Idol the other day. I'm not a caster, but I would have very happy for a 50hp range item.

Conned blue to me today at lvl 54. so lvl is wrong. Was not really any more difficult than the standard room mobs. Easier that the Elites. Elites are lvl 55. Assasin dropped kitty mask frist kill, though he only popped once in the 3 hours we were there and we were holding the entire room clear.
On a side note this has go to be the most fun that I have had in EQ since my first plane raid. 12 mobs in this room, 8 on the base floor, and 4 up on a ledge that circles the room. the mobs on the floor stand in pairs and will add unless you got a monk to pull. The mobs on the ledge are easy to single pull. We had 3 groups for this which was probly overkill (all 54+) and had no problem the couple times we got adds.
The 12 spawn points here randomly spawn Assasin, Spirit binder, Priest, Archanist, Elite, or random named mob. In about 3 hours we saw 1 Assasin, about 3 Elite, 1 named mob, and others were very common. Spawn time is about 15 minutes I think, so the killin needs to go fast. Having a few 60 wizards in your party is not a bad idea at all. For the most part mobs here have very very low magic resistance, though I was resisted on a few of my fire spells, even on the lower lvl mobs.
Shissar scales dropped commonly, about 4 Undead Shissar scales, lots of Shissar fangs, 3 50+ spells; these were off random mobs. Like i said Assasin popped once and dropped mask. Elites seemed to drop rather worthless weapons. They were dropable, so maybe something nice for a lvl 5 twink; 1HB +5 wis 7/22 priest usable, for a lvl 55 mob this makes no sence. A similar 1HS dropped once off Elite.
I highly recomend going to this place, even just for fun, the loot is good if you want spells, or kitty masks, but it is just very fun when you got mobs popping as fast as you can kill them and they all hit for 230-400.
Thought it would be nice to know some info about this area as there is not much here :)

the shissar weaps are used to create the bane weaps that are the only melee weaps that can hit the emp

The dwarf mask drops in Sleeper's Tomb off the ancients, not Plane of Mischief. It's called Besmirched Mask of Conception. There is a bard mask that you can quest for in PoM, called Mask of Melodies, but it has no illusion.
