Well, I honestly think they get alot of there MoB ideas from the Forgotten Realms series of books:
Dracnids in DL = Driders
Thought Horrors = Mind Flayers
Tundra Yetis = Tundra Yetis...
You get the idea.
Not a bad thing, the books are a classic. I personnally think it adds a great touch to EQ.
Hell, R.A. Salvatore PLAYS EQ...why not add some of his work? =)

Actually R.A. Salvatore didnt really come up with those monster ideas. Driders were intoduced, I belive in a D&D module called vault of the drow or something, a real old one. Mind flayers and yetis have been in just about every D&D monster book I can remember.
