Cure Crud without a Caster!
# Dec 11 2003 at 6:13 PM Rating: Decent
When i got crudded I kept fighting until I was really low on health and then I had 2 choices.

1) Go to the highest nearby point and jump to my death. Ta-Da! Respawned with full HP and no XP loss. Crud Gone!

2) Wait patiently for it to systematically take me down to below 35 HP then snatch off my Shardtooth's with +35 HP and Ta-Da! Same effect.

Just make sure you're binded nearby and commit the suicide someplace easy for you to retrieve your corpse from.

Um, perhaps I have missed someting here, but after lvl 11 you do lose XP in the event of your death. Whether by suicide, spreading crud, or otherwise, there is xp loss associated with your death. By the time one is able to survive a fight with this class of fiend, you would certainly be above level 11. Seems there might be a hole in Gheko the Necro's master plan.
Not an animal?
# Aug 03 2003 at 5:23 AM Rating: Decent
While medding back some mana on my ranger, I tried my Lull Animal spell on one of these fiends. Apparently they aren't considered animals. Anyone know what they are considered in that case?
Duration of Crud
# May 09 2003 at 9:41 AM Rating: Good
Just to let folks know. Out of boredom I timed this stuff. After being infected and finishing the fight I sat, medded and bandaged. When the crud finaly dissapeared my clock showed that 3hours and 14 minutes had elapsed.
This was on a 21st. Pally

I put this out for general info purposes.

No Crud for Beastlords

Started out this morning at level 14 soloing the sensate reishi, logged off tonight at level 22 mauling groups of patog phlargs. Crud was never a problem because my pet did most of the fighting, and the lvl 15 beastlord pet heal also cures crud (as i was pleasantly surpised to find out).

I was fighting these things this morning and some conned dark blue to level 17. Low end might be closer to 15-16 otherwise they would have conned even and given me a better fight.

I only stayed briefly and only got the spongy flesh and membrane cap to drop before I had to leave.

Oh yeah, their disease really sucks *** if you don't have a healer nearby. And it doesn't always take 3 casts to cure. I had someone cure me with one cast. I think if someone is high enough level, their cure disease is strong enough to do it in less than 3.

Actually, they probably had the higher level version of cure disease called counteract disease. Cure disease removes 1 disease counter while counteract removes 3, thus it only takes one cast of counteract to remove crud. I know this kinda thing cause I have powerleveled at least 7 chars in PC plus leveled up many of my own chars in there as well.

In response to my previous message, they have (with the recent overhaul in spells) made it so that cure disease will heal more disease counters the higher level you get. I believe it goes to max of like 4. Not sure, it's on the spell boards.
Crud removal
# Dec 25 2002 at 4:01 PM Rating: Decent
If you want to remove crud all you ahve do is zone when your at less than 20% life. Zonning at low lvls with low HP removes all buffs as a fail safe so you won't die from a dot.

If you have buffs you need like KEI or some nice high lvl shammy buffs then i guess this isn't a good stratefy but otherwise this is what I did to remove crud...better than waiting over an hour for it to fade.
alt for hunting
# Dec 08 2002 at 10:23 PM Rating: Decent
if the DoT is so bad then just go to highpass hold the orc camp there goes as high as lvl22 and its safer. the zone is 10 secs away if u get overwelmed and there are so many that AoE's are king. if 2 15druids a 16 dru and a 15 mage all casters can do it almost ne1 can. plus the loot is better. ringmail and bronze. i got 245 in gold alone in an hour 50pp roughly al lvl 16 aint bad.
Crud
# Sep 03 2002 at 3:36 PM Rating: Decent
You can keep the crud at bay by bandaging yourself - a pain, I know, but better than the alternative.

Seemed to take half an hour to dissipate.
Wacky pathing.
# Aug 23 2002 at 12:36 PM Rating: Default
This zone is awesome. i was soloing Pathog phlarg fiends and they would not come up a wall. the pathing is so bad, i could back away and sit to heal and they would just run back and forth.

I have found that for Necro's you can cure your pet of the crud with one cast of Mend Bones vs. 3 casts of Cure Disease.
Spreading crud
# Aug 14 2002 at 5:05 AM Rating: Decent
Yeah i got infected by one of these beasties whilst in a party, two or threee of us were infected by spreading crud and i did not notice how it was poisoning me (i was allready loosing hp) suddenly i realised that whilst resting my hp was not going up but rather going down, I found the best way to combat spreading crud is an ancient and difficult remedy, it requires skill, power and pacience. This anceint antidote is known as "sitting" in some circles. Basically what to do is sit down (which nullifies the effect) at the far right where monsters rarely see you and shout for help from a cleric. If there is no reply after five or so shouts offer a donation or send personal tells. Me and my ally who got this saved the life of a cleric last night, he was being attacked by one and in helping him another member of ym party was "crudded" making three of us. The cleric thanked us, healed us, cured disease and then still demanded a 10pp donation from each of us. Well if i wasnt such a friendliness i would never have paid it but since i am i gave him my 10pp with a look that said "thanks for saving my life, and yes have our thirty pp, i mean its not like we did anything for you is it?"

Actually, my rogue lost hp, EVEN SITTING! This is a nasty nasty disease, which is why xp is so good. At lvl 22 I would bandage up to half, then kill one, bandage, kill, bandage...

Once I ran out of bandages and nearly died before I could get a cure. Eep.

Unless you're a race with regen, you will continue to lose 1hp/tick when sitting. And, it was pointed out to me earlier, it's a 10pt Stamina debuff as well. The gift that keeps on giving.
Beware the Crud!
# Jun 23 2002 at 11:37 PM Rating: Default
I have died numerous times, not from these things killing me, but their spell they auto-use, which is called Spreading Crud. If you do not have a Cleric or someone near by that can use Cure Disease on you three times, steer clear! These things are fun to kill, but the down side is Crud!
Groups????
# Jun 17 2002 at 9:17 AM Rating: Decent
Well al i can say as a 15th necro I can solo these, at 16th alot easier. Just wondering why it takes so many to hunt these. I dont find them particularly difficult. On a side note the xp for soloing one of these at this level is unreal!

Easy Monk Soloing
# Jun 02 2002 at 8:39 PM Rating: Default
When my monk was lvl 21 (avg equipment too - PSU and Dol) it was quite easy for me to solo these things and get great xp, as a monk, most of us have great bind wound skill and can counteract the disease spell with bandages. I picked a spot on a corner wall and feign pulled 2 of them to the wall, since they were closely together... They hit low and did not have much ac - normal hp for the lvl (which is around 16 NOT 22). I only spent 1 lvl here than was off to solo the mechanic in Akkanon (also easy monk kill), kind of wish I started earlier though - perhaps 19 would be a good starting lvl to solo these. Only bad things about these things are the crappy loot and their disease spell.

"can counteract the disease spell with bandages"?

Yep. The dot hurts you, you bandage the wound. Till it wears off. Chuckle.
For me, bind wound does about 21 hps a try, and I keep a couple of stacks of bandages on hand (embalmers skinning knife), so I can heal a LOT of damage with bind wound.

Don't run, FIGHT!
# Apr 26 2002 at 11:18 PM Rating: Decent
These things are evil! i mean seriously! i died twice in a row trying to get through the caverns, but then again, i was being dumb and just trying to run through to Shadeweaver, not the smartest thing to do. If you ask me, the easiest way to get through these caverns is to just fight you're way through, worked for me, and all i lost the entire way, was 1 pet, and 100 hp! works real well

Well, Patog have the brain the size of a cashew...
# Apr 19 2002 at 6:20 PM Rating: Default
These things STILL aggro me! Had a lvl 27 try to escort me, we both almost met our maker once we tried hitting these things off. A kind lvl 30 ran in and charmed one, used it to take out a few, while she helped exterminate them. She said after she killed the last patog (The charmed one) that we should train to lvl 29 and they stop aggroing on you. She also (SO KIND) gave me a few plat for the fun of it. Then she was on her way. One question: WHEN THE HECK DO THEY REALLY SMART UP AND THINK THAT WE WILL CREAM THEM????!!!!

My Mage is level 56, and if I sit in one place too long they still take a stab at me. I just let them beat on me and watch the damage shield do it's job...they get the idea sooner or later.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 07 2002 at 1:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i can walk right by them i raised my faction with them the only way to get your faction up with them is attack the scions in the nexus(you are stupid if you believe me)
Passing them as a Druid lvl 18 +
# Apr 07 2002 at 6:44 AM Rating: Decent
If you wish to pass them on your way to Shadow Thicket, alone or in a group, this is what you do:

Enter the caverns, then cast LESSER SUCCOR. The safe zone is right beside the ST zone (the discolored rock) step through, done.

On your way back, use levitate as a group, and run over the lake. Or just gate back, if alone.
