For those who think, these guys might be nice to farm for research-components -- hear me.
I fought here now a few days for hours and hours .. must have slaught 100s of them. And be sure they drop the following for sure:
-) var. mushrooms
-) spores
-) clump

IF you have luck, you might loot 1 component each hour ... with great luck there might be 2 ...
If you want exp ... they are great in this time, if you think you farm components ... FORGET it!

they should make all frog mobs and shroom mobs have some kind of proc that makes you trip. could be an intresting way to stun mobs if it would be incorparated into something like rogue poisons.

Not bad for easy XP grinding for a Necro at 60 with EoT (level 59 pet): Monk pet might work, but there were a couple of times when EoT got down to 40% health and the Monk would probably be dead.

I just set up in the Tarmok village near the first shroom spawn from Echo: the Tarmoks were green cons and apprehensive to me, so no worries there. Arch Lich for mana regen, single pull with Vexing Mordania, send in the pet when the mushroom ran over to the village, Shadowbond to heal the pet and recast both spells as required. With 160 disease resist the pet resisted all the stuns and slows, but got hit by the Curse spell now and again.

XP was OK for a safe solo spot, probably about one and a half hours a yellow killing them about as fast as they spawned, loot was worth a few plat and I got a whole bunch of resarch components. All in all, not too bad a place to grind through 60 if you don't want to head to the planes before getting the level 61 pet.

Single Pulling

So what's the best way to single pull the small shrooms? I'm a level 60 ranger. Out of interest, why can a 60 single pull and a 59 not? Can I just ensnare one at a time or should I use a bow from a long distance? I'm guessing ensnare will aggro other shrooms nearby.

"Out of interest, why can a 60 single pull and a 59 not?"

It just depends on the relative level. When mobs are close to (or above) your level they'll all come running to give you a good kicking, but when they're close to light blue, they're too scared to help out their mates... they just stand there and hope they're not next :).

I think it happens when they're more than ten levels below you, so at 59 the highest would be ten levels below and add, while at 60 they'd be eleven levels below and safe.

Mushrooms are immun against changes of their runspeed
RE: Single Pulling
# Dec 10 2003 at 3:53 PM Rating: Excellent
MOST shrooms are imune. NOT all. About 1/10 can be snared/rooted. I always open with Snare if it lands then its bow kite city since they stop all the time to cast allowing double damage. When the noramlly resist I just do my normal Immolate, Drifting Death and melee Swarmy for slow and then regular weaps till dead.
AA EXP?
# May 21 2003 at 9:11 PM Rating: Default
Hey, has anyone killed these at say level 52-53 for AA EXP? *How fast would it go?* I was considering Powerleveling my ranger here, but for AA exp, since a ranger needs Am3/EQ to get a group in the planes. I can single pull them with an alt and all that good stuff, what do you guys about this? Any opinions? How long would it take for an AA point?
RE: AA EXP?
# Sep 12 2003 at 6:09 AM Rating: Decent
To make AA-Points before 60 is ... not wise.
A level in this levelrange brings more advance as an AA-Point, especially for caster and semi-caster classes!

My Necro did 6 AAs prior to 60 (RS3 and Regen3) and I certainly don't regret it. As for these shrooms, when I briefly turned on AA XP just to check I'd guess I got about 1.5% AA per kill.

These mushrooms hit in the low 120s, but they have 3 nasty disease based spells/procs that they cast:

Shrieker Slow
Shrieker Stun
Shrieker's Curse - very hard to resist (-100 to DR check)

The first two effects listed are cast as spells and are fairly easy to resist at a DR of 75+. They can also be interrupted. The Shrieker's Curse is a proc and is very difficult to resist, even with high DR (note the -100 penalty to the resist check).

They can be single pulled by a level 60 or higher.

They have an aggro radius of about 10-15 feet, so unless you run close to or through a camp, you shouldn't have any trouble avoiding them.

Most are immune to snare/root, but some are not. You just have to cast to see if you get a "This target is immune to changes in its run speed" message. The ones that are immune will not run when almost dead.

They can be slowed and mezzed.

Mages should use earth pets against these, as they are totally resistant to all of their spells/procs.

Here's a list of loot, which I'll update as people post more info (I don't think allakhazam lists research components under a mob's loot list):

Fungus Clump
Mushroom Veil
Vial of Shrieker Essence
Chunk of Shrieker Flesh
Rune of Vortex
Rune of Incendiary
Rune of Current
Rune of Gale

True the curse is a pain... I have 170 Disease Resist and it still lands about once per fight. Not to bad though you take 200 Dam initially and turn into a BIG Shroom for a bit. Have yet to see a Mushroom Veil drop Smiley: disappointed

Great post, Sabramson! A fine example for us all to follow. Complete to the last detail, and the links to back them up. Outstanding!! I had to post a follow up here, as much as i hate stroke posts and other space kills, my rate of excellence to this one just did'nt seem to do it justice. (already at 5!)

Ok, seems the small mushrooms will randomly drop a lot of Ykesha research components. I have received Words of Knowledge, Anguish, Card of Bristebane, Coin of Xev, many different runes and many enchanter pages so it seems they can drop components needed by enchanters, wizards, mages, and necros. Have fun!

Are these guys slowable and if not what do they hit for? I have roughly 930 AC and can get all 5 resists to 180-200 range with buffs. Could I solo these efficiently? I have a JBB but no epic.

Problem with these is you can't single pull them until level 60. If you had someone to single these or could lull them somehow..that would work I would think.

Druids
# Jan 25 2003 at 6:30 AM Rating: Decent
Well, im a lev 60 druid and i must say these guys are easy for me and they barely land their spells but i wouldnt recommend planning on camping them if you are a druid as well. These guys arent slowable so u have to kite them and blast or DoT inbetween their casts so its not very mana efficient since u cant quad them obviously. BTW i only got 1% main exp toward 61 for each kill. that would take too long.
RE: Druids

Actually ive just heard that some can be snared and some cant. I'm off to test this again as i only killed 3 earlier and all were not affected.
Spells they cast

From my experience fighting these little guys, they "cast" a total of 3 spells.
1) Shrieker Slow, a 35% slow that lasts for 30 seconds and they like to recast this often.
2) Shrieker Stun, a 6 second stun with about 50DD.
3) Shrieker's Curse, a 200DD spell with Root compnent that lasts for 18 seconds and also turns you into a mushroom.
I say they "cast" these because they actually have no mana (an enchanter friend tried to tap their mana, got the message that they had none) so they can keep casting until they die. They will never run out of mana

Cute? Look at the furrowed brow, narrowed eyes, and the imminent disaster awaiting the unwary when it unfurls the folds of its stalk! These guys messed me up royally last night as I attempted to get to the Twilight Sea (sans port). The whole run from Shadowhaven, through Echo Caverns and into the first part of Fungus Grove was a big yawn for my 37 Ranger until I started taking hits shortly after exiting the town in the Grove. Not sure how close I was to Twilight Sea(hoping to get a Lesser/Greater Guard of Haste), since the area is not mapped, but I don't think I was very far from the the Twilight Zone (hey, wer're not known for our witty puns ok!). I ran right through the middle of these guys and had at least 6 of them gang-rape me under the shade of some giant mushroom graphics.

So an second death and 100pp to get a Rogue to recover my corpse(s). I could not cast camo since I was "inside" and harmony, same deal, hence the cost of recovery. These guys are definitely on my 'revenge list' but will have to wait until I am grouped or much much higher level. So if you are looking to hunt in the Twilight Sea, I might suggest a nice port to go with it.

Sorry guys forgot to tell you ..

i am 60 .. and exp at 60 is cake.. so maybe those lesser than 60 wont get 2 blues but still it's worth a try

and we had 200+ MR 100+ resist for all the rest.. and we still get snared..

shrooms are cakes.. beasts are harder.. bandits slight harder.. never pull bugs though.. they suck
AE them
# Apr 21 2002 at 3:13 PM Rating: Default
I went there with an AE group.. we had 3 AE nukers 2 chanters 1 clr. clr stayed with chanters. Nukers go pull.. each nuker will pull about 10 - 15 mobs back.. chanters will stun and nukers start to AE..

One pull = 2 blues or more.

Go figure:)

Have talked to people in zone and read posts trying to figure out what resistance to use. Have been told Magic, Disease, and Poison. Does anyone know for sure which resist to use against the mushrooms? Please no guesses, want to know for sure once and for all. Thanks for any info :)
RE: Resistance

59 Mage with 165 mr and 94 dr. I was resisting every stun they were throwing at me. Since I was the highest in my group, I was the puller, so they were trying to stun me alot. They were all dark blue to me.
RE: Resistance
# Apr 18 2002 at 2:11 PM Rating: Excellent
Disease. Don't even bother with MR. Just get DR up over 120 and you'll resist roughly 98% of their spells (slow/stun).

Was heading to scarlet desert with a 58 mage and a 47 cleric (im a 49 wiz) and the mage was leading us. We got to fungus grove and we went to the gate. The mage said to wait there and stay invis. Well, my invis was wearing off and i started to recast. All the sudden i see a big group of these guys approaching. I backed up all the way against a building wall in panic but they all aggroed on me anyway. I started to run back toward the place we zoned in at but they were all hitting me foruber damage and i was changing back and forth into a mushroom. All the sudden, when im about to die, barely walking away from the mushrooms, i see the message "You Have Been Summoned". The mage had just gotten to the Twilight zone and had summoned me just in the nick of time :D Boy that was scary.
Hehe they nailed me

47 Rogue, 44 Cleric and myself a 46 Ranger did the loop from Shadow Haven to Katta via Teneborous, then came back via Fungus. After going through the Stargate I lost camo. Made it part way and the mushrooms began foraging up a Ranger and eating him for lunch. I died, but our Rogue was able to get my corpse to the outpost for a rez. It is no problem from the outpost to Echo zone, but between the outpost and Twilight zone, run hard and run fast. Everthing was Black, Yellow, and Red to me.

Best comment last night: "So do Mushrooms eat Ranger soup?"
