In Crystal Caverns: Uncommon spawn in the geonid tunnel that leads to the Eastern Wastes.

In Crystal Caverns, Fragment of Fear: Known to spawn from the very last spawn in the geonid cavers to the southern zone-out. "Dazzle" is cast on random targets. Every 20 seconds, this mob causes a cave-in (places random gems in player inventories). 10 seconds after this happens, it checks for these gems and hits players with an attack based on what gem they have.

i sold the chip diamond and a chip Black peral to a merchant and they sold the same value as if the were regular gems, also from what i am told they can be made into augs, not sure if this is true but they are decent money :o)

Negative on augments, they've been around well before augments existed. I'm not sure of the purpose either, unfortunately.

If you are interested in making cash, then do not hunt these guys. If you are high enough level, you should farm the orcs. Collect vast amounts of velium and sell in bazaar. The spawns are endless, lots of velium, and good loot besides velium. I sometimes find I can make more cash killing orcs than these guys when I sell to merchant. In the long run, orcs are much better cash. I am not saying that the geo's arent, because i have made tons off of them as well. Also, orcs get you faction with town.

PS: The music in the coldain town in CC is Jamacan Music. WTF??? LOL!!!

Chipped gems which don't stack are pure merchant bait - as of this posting there is no known use for them either for quests nor for tradeskills.

Chipped gems aren't purely merchant bait----they are great for Tribute! I average 40-65 Tribute points each.

You're better off spending that 300pp you make on selling a couple of these to buy a cheap item to tribute for 1000 tribute points. Especially when tribute at high levels takes about 150-200 to maintain.

*crushed* gems are for thurgadin armor quests, not chipped.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 13 2002 at 10:42 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think they are used in jewel crafting, and the stats of the stone are added to the stats of the jewelry made.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 31 2002 at 2:22 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I've spoken to a lot of people on this. I was told they're -broken- and should work in the jewlery trade skill. Some of them sell for a lot of money. My only other thought on it could be they somehow effect the vendor sale price variable and by adding attributes they can effect the cost. Though that's most likely not the case and the prior is. It's hard to say, there's a lot of sloppy code left around in the game, the tooths for instance, you don't need for Velious ports anymore but they still spawn. Minor but those things pile up to a lot of junk.

I have been holding a Chipped Fire Emerald in my bank for months. +2 Str and +2 Sta I think are the stats on the gem. Anyone have the slightest clue what it is for? By the vast volumes of posts under this mob, I dount I will ever know what it is good for...
