How to fight with bugs?
# Nov 03 2009 at 5:50 PM Rating: Decent
How are you guys doing this fight with the Bugs down there now? I asked a GM if they would provide help due to the change.. and got a no. So curious of a good solid strategy to kill and loot. I'm 75th ranger, 425aa's. I know I can solo him, just have to worry about the high level bugs now I believe.. Sort of odd for a 50 something quest mob encounter to morph into a 'potential' 80-85 encounter if you get agro of bugs.

Any and all replies welcome.

I worked my way in solo (thanks gossamer for directions). I had a high level Mage there for pest (gargoyle and construct) control.

I soloed Jaeil the Insane and never got below 75% health. (No Steadfast Servant, had to use him on the way in when I got jumped by two, and he expired) Ran Thorncoat, SkinSpikes VI, and Shield of Thorns. Stacked my 4 dots, snared (thanks above poster for reminding about that), and flailed away with my swords. Dead erudite.

Just soloed him with on my fully buffed, averagely equipped 55 ranga. Firstly, he conned even to me, making him 55 not 53. Secondly, though we was a fairly easy fight (I cleared the tunnel with my 71 warrior prior to attempting fight and needed 2 healing pots to survive), he does, indeed, summon.

I duoed this easily with a 63 cleric and 61 ranger, but I shot myself in the foot.

I forgot to snare JTI (or it was resisted), causing him to jump in the water then walk down the tunnel. I didn't think I'd need to clear that first gargoyle down the way... oops. From there, all hell broke loose. My cleric bit it, then after a few cycles of running to JTI/hitting him a few times/getting summoned, my ranger bit it with JTI at 3%.

Pissed at myself, and not wanting to go through the first part of my epic to get another bowl, I went back to the Hole to see if JTI was still up. Sure enough he was, and it turned out he was in the exact same spot where my ranger died. The second time was a breeze -- and I made damn sure I snared him this time. Easy fight, took maybe 90 seconds. Looted the hammer and gated out.

I wonder how long JTI stays up after a failed attempt? I reengaged him about 45 minutes after the first try.
Easy

I soloed this guy as a 73 ranger buffed to 9233 hp's. He doesn't summon and is rootable. I rooted, snared, and popped Trueshot and let a light blue gargoyle add pound on me while I shot him with the bow from a distance. He kept casting but never landed much and the melee's he hit me for were consistent but only between 55-70 (my ac is 1733). He only broke root twice (I nuked). They never got me below 65 percent (although I did use a healing pot). He only has about 18k in HP's so it didnt take but about a minute of shooting him before he dropped and I turned on the gargoyle add. The adds are a bitch down there. You have to clear carefully and you'll still end up with one or two. All of the adds summon and hit me for 120-280. Their repop timer must be about 10 minutes or less.

First - new location, found him directly in the castle at the entrance (going in via the bridge).
Had to clear about 10-12 level 40ish elementals to get to him. Once at his place also had Chanter and Shammy, but really could've done without (hit me once for 58 damage once slowed during whole fight - lol). I am a level 66 Ranja, had Conv on me and Master-DoN gear (not much other augs besides the slot 11). 6,7k HPish, 1,7k Attack. If you are close to that values you can solo him :).

Don't know how you found him up there... Found his trigger mob, Jaeil the Wretched, right where he always is. So unless Sony decided to go totally insane and have the Insane version spawn in a totally different place after you triggered him.... /shrugs

So as far as I can tell, Jaeil the Wretched/Insane is still down at the end of the winding cave west of the old city.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Lord knows I wanted him to be where you were saying.

Only thing I can figure is that maybe they moved him while the fabled mobs were up because he'd have been hell to get to? Then put him back after fabled's were done?? /shrugs again

/salute

Well I should of known better but i went behind him and tried to hand him the bowl and he did not take it and turned around and started to attack....so that meant no insane spawn.
With that being said i obviously made a mistake. Do you have to sneak up behind him if he is dubious in order to get the Insane to spawn. Go to him in like 15 mins with a 70 mage's help. So i know it won't be a problem when i go back but I don't want to screw it up next time.

Somebody said you can't go the whole way to Jaeil invisible because there are some undead in the way.

But how far can you go before having to fight ?

Then after killing those that see-invis, can you sneak the rest of the way to Jaeil ?

I'm thinking it would be a good idea to bring a bard playing invis song.

RE: Going Invisible

Ok, strap in, this is a long one:

I'm a 65 enchanter with my AA's set up for deep penetration missions into places like The Hole. I solo all the way from the Paineel zone in all the way to 12 on EQ Atlas's map (well over half way to Jaeil). I'm sure a well-equiped ranger can make the trek with an enchanter but make sure you have lots of gate potions.

For the record, I have my AA's in Eldrich Rune (maxed), Channeling Focus (maxed), Enhanced Forgetfulness 2, and I have items which give me an extra 4% channeling. When I make this run, I have 280 Int, 280 Cha, but I also have 280 dex via Nights Dark Terror which is permanent because of Permanent Illusion AA skill. The mobs don't produce knockback when they hit so the strategy is don't let them interrupt you. Apart from self-buffs the only buffs I have are Virtue and Blessing of Reverence.

From the Paineel zone, invis up and hug the left hand wall all the way to the first pool shown on the EQ Atlas map just to the right of the letter 'E'. After this, it gets a little dicey. The section after the hallway is patrolled by Constructs which see through all invis and are highly magic resistant but are highly suseptable to mem blur. The tactic is to run just past a Construct, let it aggro, mem blur it, and then clear aggro before it comes to. Presto, you've gotten past a Construct. It takes practice to get it right, but once you have the knack, it becomes second nature very quickly. Make sure you've got this down before you go all the way in because you'll be doing a lot of it.

From the pool described above, you will have one Construct patrolling the hall before the mushroom-shaped room. Aggro/mem blur past him and hug the left hand wall of the mushroom shaped room. If you do that, there is a single Construct between you and the passageway on the far side. Aggro/mem blur past him and get to the passageway on the far side. IVU and blow past the undead sentry, down the ramp all the way to a small courtyard. Nothing will aggro on you at the bottom of the ramp so med up.

From here, you will need to go under the archway directly in front of you flanked by two undead, topped by a gargoyle who sees through all invis--but there's a trick: The gargoyle won't aggro on a level 65 even if you are directly under him. IVU past the two sentries, under the gargoyle, and take a sharp right hand turn once you're past the archway. There is a construct that patrols this courtyard. Aggro/mem blur him, clear aggro and then IVU again. Run for the archway indicated on the EQ Atlas map which is directly between F and G.

From here, the path to Jaeil, and what I've actually done part ways. I suspect that you can do something like what I've described all the way to Jaeil but I've never had reason to do so.

No one told me how to do this, I figured it out by trial and error, which is a round about way of saying that the zone is extremely forgiving. If something goes terribly wrong (and it will), don't hesitate to gate out. The mobs have little knockback so chances are you will have no trouble getting off the spell. If you get two Constructs on you, use Blanket of Forgetfullness (no kidding, it actually works on these guys). If you're still having troubles, be patient, keep trying, learn from your mistakes. All you have to do is succeed once.

Just a note, with Enchanter use earth illusion and a faction buff, means the constructs wont be KOS. IVU pass the intial ghosts, once at ratmen use Pacify.

Taken down last night with:

65 Pally
65 Shaman
64 Ranger
63 Ranger

Like most of the epic related mobs in The Hole the trip to him was tougher than the mob himself. The constructs were, of course, rough and a note that one of the several roamers killed when setting up the kill seemed MUCH rougher than the others. Jaeil the Insane himself was a cupcake.

I safely fought to and killed Jaeil with a 65 monk and 65 beastlord. Fighting down was relatively easy until we got to the long tunnel he is in. The gargs and the roaming contructs are all dark blue to 65 and were almost impossible to slow. Watch the walker patterns and see where they go, you can get 1 mob every time. Once down to Jaeil, we waited for a second spawn to make sure we killed all walkers. Just be smart and patient and this is no problem. Best thing about a monk tanking here is mend and healing disc, so Beast heals/Paragon were enough. AA exp was pretty good down there to, mobs dropped alot of gems as well.

I just want to note that this guy is NOT level 50. I was in a small raid of about 8 quildies to help a friend get his Soulbound Hammer and this mob conned red to me (I was level 50 at the time) when he should have conned even. Nevertheless, we went in and took him out. With a 65 Cleric, 65 Druid, 65 Monk, 63 Shammy, 61 Warrior, 57 & 55 Rangers and 50 Chanter (me), it was slight overkill, but it was a good time and my dear friend was able to finish some turn ins that night and got his Swifty :))

51 ranger (Ichooseyou)
56 paladin (Saiya)
65 rogue (Angelyina
56 cleric (Puki)
61 shaman (Arnach -- me)

Really easy if you know the zone, the only hard part were the 2 or 3 high lvl gargoyles just before jaeil. Medded up and fully rebuffed at jaeil... medded to full.. did hand-in..

1st malise stuck..1st slow stuck..1st cripple stuck..Jaeil managed to drop our MT to 99% several times, and ended up landing 2 dots on MT (the 56 sk). fight ended with SK at 98%, and one happy ranger!

TY everyone for helping Ichooseyou, proud new owner of Swiftwind 8)

We took this guy down with a 55 Ranger (me); 65 bard; 50 Cleric; and a 65 Pally, all decently equiped. Fight took less than a minute and was pretty simple. The Soulbound Hammer is MINE!! Took out this punk tonight rather unexpectedly cause a couple friends were on and said, 'let's go for it' so we did ;) Was just me (51 ranger) 65 pally, 65 druid. They have decent equip for their lvls, NOT ep geared or in uber guild btw, just decent geared and smart about what they're doin. Got mobbed as many as 5 at a time on way to Jael, dru just off pulled and rooted, and pally and me (mostly him) tanked em one at a time. Took out gargoyle in front of Jael, downed the wanderer, handed him the bowl, smacked the insane, hammer is mine ;) All in all dru and me never below 70% health, pally got as low as 30% once (when we had the 5 mobs) but never used LoH or grp LoH, whole thing done in 30 min! Hardest freakin part was gettin into the damn place, less someone knows a trick none of us could figured out, the lil hole in rock above door has been nerfed cause both my helpers had used it before and couldnt get it to work tonight. Finally had to call a friend w/key to open it for us. So I only need a Swirling Sphere of Color and Swifty is mine! BTW, if anyone on Bristlebane has or knows someone who has, or a guild that's been raiding PoS, PLEASE reply to this or send me a tell in the game PAYING 10K to MQ the SSoC. Asked in the wrong place about how to get to the bugger. Now I know. (Yeah, right!)

So, it would seem that sneaking with Superior Camo would not really be the best way to do it. And a good group of high 50's salted with a few 60's can do it.

But I gotta tell yez all, that map is confusing!

Extremely easy with even a single group containing mid 50s.

Our group was composed of the following:

61 Warrior/Main Tank (myself)
58 Warrior
65 Druid (healer)
58 Druid
56 Shaman
55 Ranger

Mowed our way down through the city up to Jaeil. The absolute hardest part about this entire procedure are the Gargoyles. If you can manage those, Jaeil is cake.

As you can see by the mix above, you do not need crowd control, and our Shaman was hardly slowing, you simply need a good main tank to hold aggro, a secondary tank for adds, and consistent (not even high) DPS. Barring dumb mistakes, from entrance of the Hole to Jaeil shouldn't take more than a half hour.

We had a simple process. I would Berate to pull, if there was an add the second Warrior would off tank and Shaman would heal as necessary or pop Defensive (since it's on a 10 minute refresh timer, Defensive can be used a LOT more often than it used to be). Ranger and second Druid would be DPS on my target. Rinse, repeat, all the way down to Jaeil. There are roaming constructs that come through Jaeil's room, so once the Gargoyles were out of the way, we sat and waited 10 minutes to clear our roamers. Did hand in to Jaeil, and he was absolute cake.

If your Main Tank is a Warrior, it shouldn't take more than 30 seconds to a minute to kill him. Here's what I did. Popped Fellstrike (Damage x4) while he was casting, then as he moved to melee, popped Furious (automatic Riposte for 12 seconds). By this time, he was already almost dead, and the Druids popped off direct damage to drop him. Absolute cake.

Jaeil is easy as others have said here. Slowed and with GRM on my people he didnt land a spell. Crew was:
65 druid
61 paladin MA
61 enchanter
58 ranger
The gargoyle mobs around him are tough. Couldn't get them slowed with enchanter (at least the ones around Jaeil). The other mobs are fairly easily slowed. I think a shaman would be more approapriate then an enchanter since the secondary healer would be more useful for those mobs that can't be slowed.
Tomorrow I think I will be heading down to kill Kirn. Both are now in the same general area. Wish I had thought about it and I would have brought both of them to the Hole.

Today we marched a path straight to Jaeil...thanks to the maps from the UCLA crew (see this section further down for link). I created a lvl 1 ROG, gave him a few potions of Invis to Undead and walked the dungeon a couple times before hand to be prepared. Couldn't make it past the gargoyles tho but that was
VERY close to Jaeil. Brought a couple shrink potions for the actual raid so people could make it through the underwater entrance. We made it through no problems with 2 groups...I know...overkill but hey...took less than an hour once we all got inside the dungeon. Here's what we had for characters in the groups: 57 RNG, 65 CLR, 62 BRD, 53 SHM (LD during main battle), 52 NEC, 55 WIZ, 45 BRD, 65 PAL, 65 RNG. I will say that the mobs in the room with Jaeil are the toughest...there were only 2 or 3 tho and we pulled them 1 at a time. Jaeil went down quick after that the hand in. Looted the hammer and the Flame of Fennin and TL'd out after saying our goodbyes.

On 10/14/03 the Union of Heroes Alliance killed Jaeil the Insane on the Seventh Hammer. Jaeil the Wretched was in his usual spot next to the pond in the tunnel. When I did my turnin to Jaeil the Wretched he despawned and was replaced by Jaeil the Insane. Jaeil the Insane took 18000 hp to kill. I do not know how long it takes for Jaeil the Wretched to respawn after the Insane is killed but it is more then 15 min. Please see my post under the main beastiary section for more details.

I just did this guy with a 65 cleric, 62 ranger and 65 necro. The ranger was tanking with about 4.2k HP. This guy is very very easy. Did the fight with an add construct who are about 10x harder than the Insane. I suggest killing the Insane very soon after you clear the pats around him. ;)

Getting to him is another story between running into pats, having to use IVU, etc etc..

Jaeil the Insane is not to be taken lightly I would reccomend 2 groups of mid 50s from experience. The first thing one room is filled with constructs who summon and hurt bad. we found this out on our first raid. So we took another raid with us this time we had a 64 mage 64 druid 47 ranger(me) 56 warrior 54 warrior 54 paladin 56 druid 57 druid and a few others. cant remember but we had a total of 11 people and an average raid lvl of 56 so we were pretty set... so we thought we went in and mowed through the conscripts and went all the way to jaeil when we had some trouble in the path before him because our MT died. When our main tank died the mage summoned him and a 58 monk I love That guy and you will see why in a second. so we were set buffed and everything so we set in we get a wanderer kill that then started in on jaeil. HE CASTS A LOT LIKE LIMITLESS MANA A LOT. so we couldnt pull him cause he would just stay there and cast so we ran to him bad idea. we ran up pounded on him and we got a gargoyle add which wasnt a big deal cause the mages pet could off tank it with the mage healing it. so we were working our way through jaeil and stuff hit the fan. 3 conscripts came and jaeil rooted me and killed and adds worked on everyone. Jaeil was down to 4% health and everyone knew we were gonna die so we just said kill jaeil let me loot then die. and it didnt work that way jaeil went down to 0% percent health and the conscripts summoned me the only person left except the monk so i tried to get a spell off to finish off jaeil and the last thing i saw was jaeil walking off at 0% health i was so mad but in the end the monk got up killed jaeil looted hammer and feign deathed again and we got corpses and went our ways but jaeil is not friendly especially with his little add circle. I will post again to see if you can MQ the hammer when you have the sphere.

Did this last night (unsuccessfully) with a 65 Pally, 2 x 65 Druid, 56 Cleric, 52 Rogue, 51 Monk and a 61 Ranger.

Fight to the waterfall if anything is easier, entry mobs are a lot lower.

The Waterfall drop...Yael has gone and all mobs are indifferent..a good spot to gather your thoughts as the next bit is where it gets tricky.

The new mobs are tough, we had no slower or Crowd control and thats what scuppered us.

They also spawn super fast and usually in pairs.

When attempting to clear the passage to Jaeil from the waterfall area be aware that the gargoyles head back to spawn at low health and can't be snared. This usually results in agroing another one so be prepared to fight about 5 in a row.

Then MOVE, the trick is to move fast after a section is cleared as they back spawn real fast.

Agro range is fairly low so just keep far enough ahead of them and you'll be fine.

Once you reach Jaeil, there are wanderers back and front of this room, we got 2 adds which blew our attempt. These guys hit hard!!

One balanced grp should do it, but you need a Chanter a must have and a monk to split.

Good luck.
How I did it.

Did this with a 6 person group tonight: 2 clerics (56 and 58 I think), 63 druid (the only one actually healing), 62/63 bard (he dies a lot) and me, 56 ranger (also the tank). The 6th was my lvl 1 rogue that I two-boxed along. Total time to take down Jaeil: 30 minutes. Would've been a lot shorter, but one of the clerics jumped off the ledge too early so we had to wait for him to med.

The secret to getting here is a 60+ bard with the group DA song. Make sure you have a way to check that Master Yael is not up, fire up group DA and jump into the hole. Make sure everybody holds down the forward key, otherwise you'll pile up at the zone-in point and won't hit the floor before DA fades. Hopefully the first person in will be the bard and he can deal with the wanderers there (mez, lull, blur). I had my lvl 1 rogue around to scout ahead of the party and allow the bard to target around rocks and corners to lull things.

The secret to the fight is controlling the adds. We got a steady stream of wanderers coming up from the bottom once we got there. Our first attempt we didn't even get to the handin before we had 9 mobs on us and had to evac (this is where the druid is handy). So we decided to lull mobs as they came into the room where Jaeil is. This worked very well, though the cleric responsible for the bottom ended up with more mobs than her lull could handle with its refresh a few times and the bard had to step in.

Jaeil himself is pretty weak. Was hitting me for 100s and not very fast. The actual fight took about 2 minutes. The cleric at the bottom got a few too fast and we ended up with an add in the room, and evacing after we got the hammer looted.

This is going to sound complicated, but follow the steps, and you'll be deep in the hole quickly, safely and painlessly. This trick works to get to most epic mobs including Jaeil, Keeper, Kirn, and the Ghost of Kindle (chanter epic, I think that's her name).

What you'll need:

- a level 55+ magician
- a good enchanter or two
- a clean pair of shorts
- a few of the following classes: Paladins, Shadow Knights, Clerics, Necros. Mix and match is fine. Make sure you have at least four characters that fall into any of these classes.

Make a level one halfing brell-worshipping rogue. Bind him or her in Paineel. I would say make a level 65 rogue, but you can only make level one characters...

Bring your level one halfling brell worshipping rogue to the pit where Yael spawns and pray he's not up. If he is, forget it. You will need to fight in the long way. If he's not up, park there and log back onto your main character.

1. Have all necros and shadow knights mem Harm Shield. Have all paladins and clerics mem Divine Aura. Do this now because it takes a few minutes before the spell comes up to cast.
2. Create your groups. Classic grouping. Put a healer in each group. Make sure enchanter is grouped with a cleric, etc. etc.
3. Have all paladins, shadow knights, necromancers, and clerics disband and form a "sub-group." Make sure they take note of their group and group leader before they disband, because they will be rejoining them later.
4. Have everyone that's not in a pally/sk/necro/cleric subgroup zone into the hole through the rock in the pond.
5. Have the pally/sk/necro/cleric sub-group(s) cast Divine Aura or Harm Shield and drop down the big hole in Paineel IMMEDIATELY after they cast.
6. Your subgroups will have to kill two or 3 mobs as soon as they land. This shouldn't pose much of a problem.
7. Log onto your Halfling Brell-worshipping Level One Rogue. Invite a necro or SK.
8. Kill yourself and zone back in through the rock in paineel.
9. Invite the magician.
10. Kill the magician.
11. Have the necro in your group summon the magician.
12. Have a cleric or pally rez the magician.
13. Begin CotHing, inviting people for CotH with your Level One Halfling Brell-worshipping Rogue.
14. Disband your sub-group(s) and have them rejoin their original groups.

**As an alternative, if you have a suicidal mage, you can just have him drop down from paineel and rez him, without worrying about the summon corpse bit, but it's polite to offer to do the summon corpse so he doesn't lose any xp for your epic.**

And you're good to go. You only need to go up the tunnel a little way with a few spawns along the way. This way is SOOO much easier than fighting your way through the city, and it saves a lot of time.

Bard with Group DA makes this even easier.

group up everyone who doesn't have DA/HS in 5's

all DA/HS folks drop in.

Bard groups with group 1 of, sings group DA, group jumps in, bard stays. repeat till everyone's in.

This has now changed with the recent revamp of the Hole...

Before, you could bring multiple rangers down to his location, and for each, turn in the bowl to Jaeil the Wretched. This would spawn Jaeil the Insane next to Jaeil the Wretched, so you could kill Jaeil the Insane, the happy ranger loots the hammer, and merely repeat for each ranger who brought the bowl with them until each one gets their hammer all at the same time.

Since the revamp, turning in the bowl to Jaeil the Wretched will cause him to despawn, and be REPLACED with Jaeil the Insane.

So, you can only do it once now, per spawn of Jaeil the Wretched.

This is probably a silly question but I believe Jael the Wretched is a static spawn so would it be possible for this part of the quest to be done twice, straight after each other? As in my guild there are 2 of us rangers both at the same stage of epic and it would be a blessing if we could get this part of quest out of the way at the same time :) Wishful thinking I am sure :D

VERY possible, as I've been in a Raid that has had three (3) Rangers do this back-to-back. Luck to you.

Invis won't work in here. There are undead in the city as well as non-undead. You'll have to crawl your way thru the dungeon. Go here for awesome maps: http://www.bol.ucla.edu/~berjd/hole/

Jaeil the Insane wasn't that tough for our 2 50-ish groups. Two minute battle. Warning though: he summons, and try to keep him out of the water. If he falls in, have everyone hop on in (watch your breath bar!). His hate pretty much stuck on my poor ranger, so be prepared to be the big damage absorber in this one - warn your clerics to keep the ranger alive! And don't kill Jaeil the Wretched. Leave him up for the next ranger to come along.

He IS harder to get to.

A sinlge group of 50+ doesn't have a problem with him. The adds are the killer.
I highly suggest two groups with at least one enchanter to handle crowd control or ghetto mez and use AOE spells to take out the group.
Just my two cp worth.
