i've killed the chief at least a dozen times, both regular and fabled, and had never seen the avengers... this morning i accidently aggroed him while camping the minstrel for my baby bard so i ate him for breakfast. about 2 minutes later, i get jumped by a couple greenies. Im a 65 war w/ 10k hp, 2066ac, full defensive aa's with 3% shielding and 13% avoidance.. i ate thru the first 2 easy enough and thought i only had 2 more... after popping disc after disc and killing THOSE two... i realized i still had 2 to go... needless to say i zoned into CC to avoid being killed (i was at about 13% health) since they run at SoW speed (i also found out the hard way.)

what an introduction.

Won't do any good to pull the chief outside the fort to avoid the avengers, they spawn out there too when the chief is killed.

Just killed the chief to see if I could get them to pop... Two did, and they are nasty. They worked my 66 druid over pretty good, but I managed to get heals off ok. I had SoE up and full buffs, so thought I could handle two easily. I could not land a snare OR root, even for a second or two. I wasted a lot of time and effort trying, so I would recommend not even trying that route. I managed to run far enough to get off a DoT on one, and heal myself long enough for a nuke to finish him off, then the other was easy, but must say I paged over to my exodus button in case they interrupted one of my heals. Luckily they didn't get me low enough to panic, but they are no easy matter. If there were 4, I would definitely have had to exodus or zone...

If you get jumped by them and can't handle, be prepared to run around to Crystal Cavern zone and zone in.... You'll never make it to the bridge from what I saw unless you are real speedy!

Addendum:

Was working on coldain ring quests and killed the Chief for want of anything better to do. When he died, I waited to see if Avengers popped, and Lo and Behold SIX popped. Based on my previous encounter, I had NO desire to face them, so I stayed pretty far away. They DO see thru invis, and they crowd around the spot where the Chief died, but it appeared that four of them ran off into the "wilderness." In checking on track, this was misleading, and looked like only two were left standing over the spot, but in fact all six were there... BE CAREFUL of this... believe me, after facing two, no way do I want to tangle with six of them! Also, I was careful to /ooc before I killed Chief to warn anyone else, but no one was in zone. (Remember the good 'ole days?)

You might also want to warn anyone you see camping the Chief about this. Hope they don't get caught unawares... as I almost did...)).

They see through invis

It's not mentioned elsewhere in this thread that these mobs see through invis, so don't think you'll sneak your way past them. Three ate my pet in no time and had me down to 15% health from 4532hp before I managed to stick FD and survive the encounter.

They're no joke - was bored and went after cheif of ry'gorr. 2 popped. These things run fast too - without SOE I woulda been rhino food. Lvl 55 pal.

I killed the Chief for the first time last night, was just goofing off because PoK was messed up again, was pulling any blues from fort for AA. Got the Cheif as an add, rooted him and killed the first mob then killed him. Was OOM and only about 25% health. I sat down to med and bind wound on the hillside infront of the fort and next thing I knew had 4-6 (Couldn't tell how many they looked like a druid quad kite , just a ball of arms and legs) of these guys beating on me. Well got my Rez and headed bact to the spires in GD as I didn't want to get stuck in PoK, as My cleric is ATM.... When is Sony going to fix this problem??

Peculiar thing happened to me one time... I killed the chief and there were no avengers. I checked track constantly, just waiting for an evil ambush to have fun with, and there was nothing to be found... no avengers, no pain, no misery.

I was kinda worried that I didn't see them...

Me (54 Shaman), a 52 SK and 49 Ranger took on 2 of these after killing the chief. Wiped out my pet and SK in no time flat. I couldn't get an slows or roots to stick. Didn't have debuffs up (everything else we pulled was easy) so I'm not sure whether or not that would help.

Ranger ran them to Coldain camp and the 2 Avengers took camp out. Coldains were red to Ranger - Avengers Dark Blue.

Best advice I can give you is to pull the chief outside the fort and don't go back in again. This is our usual MO but today we decide to pull inside the room next to the Oracle/Chief room.
wierd

how wierd im not really even uber but i killed the chief yesterday about a minute later there were 4 avengers on me i ended up killing one of the avengers b4 i had to run and FD so i dont think it should be hard for a group of 65s to take them all down

That's odd. I just solo'd one of them easily...took a bit of time, as they have some HPs, but...oh well. They are quite tough for how green they are, certainly. Be prepared.
Duh

Wow, that's odd. A level 65 soloing a level 45 easily. Who'da thunk it?? That's all you can say is be prepared? Awesome info, you are just a plethora of knowledge. Gotta love it when some snoot makes a general comment as an excuse to show off their magelo file.

I was on the ice bridge about 100 feet before the IC zone when I got trained by these sowed uglies. They ripped apart my 40 warrior at the time. You get 2 of these on you and no sow, forget it. Double hit for 120+ and stun = toast. That was many levels ago, but when you hear someone say train (I did not) then get outta the way. Either zone or get off the bridge.
Gotta agree with you, Ouch!

I was quadding the Body Guards when I saw the Chief walk nearby, and thought it would be a fun to kill him. He was easy. Then 1 minute later 4 Ry'Gorr Avengers spawn. Well I took out my AoE Snare, and proceeded to cast it on them. What happened next was so fast my head was spinning. Instantly killed by them. Then I /ooc for a rez, and apparently these things wiped out a group of 60+ near Giant fort that were heading to Sleepers or something. These are totally unsnarable.
umm.. ouch

me (49 bst) and a friend (39 pally) killed Chief Ry'Gorr, got the battle mail as loot, and then 3 or 4 of the e=avengers spawned, and they whiped out a group of 65's that were there for a quest.. these are not to be messed with unless you ready for em and got a nice high lvl group
