Just wondering if anyone has fought The King of Thieves lately. If so how hard is he, how big of a raid force is needed? I am in a family style guild that can raid, wondering if this guy would be doable for us?
For some reason, i looked at the 2 handed sword he drops and it says Velious required. I thought this was a plane of power. It says that it is a Velious zone. WTF? Is this a plane or a Velious zone? someone please tell me.
It is a plane added during the Velious expansion era and since revamped several times. The only way to reach it is via the Great Divide, hence the item is Velious-required.
ya, it was in Ntov first. It was the main cause for res's to be changed. They used to click res the corpse, get them to the entrance, then accept it and appear there to zone in. Now you appear where you are clicked, regardless of wher the corpse goes.
Not enough people were able to get to PoM, so during one of the revamps, they added an entrance to the Great Divide.
Also it was a nifty way to port to cobalt scar without fidning a druid or wiz. Zone in, click tree, fall into CS.

Thats Bristlebane? I thought He would look like that tall guy wearing a hat and hes playing a banjo? It shows him on the Everquest booklet and strategy guides. Although on the picture it did show a halfling beside him. So if the halfling is bristlebane, then who is the tall guy wearing the hat and playing the banjo beside him?
I agree I don't appreciate the fact there upping the level of older world zones. Now with this new expansion that will let players get even higher level, guess what they will proably do? Now Cazic Thule in POF will be about another 25% stronger then the last time they revamped him. A level 50 raid can no longer do old world planes thanks to the revamps of those zones. This is really sad since many players want to start there epics when there about 50ish and now unless there in the high end raid guilds they can't do it.
The trend has been to upgrade the zones, whole moving SOME epic content down... this is all fine and dandy... but where do you get equipment for the planes? Farm Kael for ToV, then NToV, then this, then that, etc etc etc.
I'm tired of hearing about how that's the "old" way, and we should stop whining. YES, I want a challenge. NO, I don;t expect to jump straight into the planes, but KAEL... if you left old Hate/Fear etc, non-huge guilds, by this point, could farm those enough to bring themselves to BEGIN the PoP, get what they can there, and keep going.
Instead, the revamp zone after zone, limiting the choices of people.
I started serious EQ'ing about... 4 months back. My options for getting gear are basically months of endless farming while getting passed over by uber-guilds, who ridicule us for daring to have not spent our money on the game since it's inception more than 5 years back.
I think the point is the path is closing. Options are shrinking. And this catering to the high end is a BAD business move, because they WILL leave as soon as they get burnt out or bored, and you are left with the few new customers who didn;t leave due to frustration over stagnant game content.
Actually jimbo everything they've done even remotely regarding epics has been to make it easier, Have you actually BEEN to the new plane of hate?? They moved the war epic drop to a 1 groupable mob that's almost ALWAYS up, they reduced the aggro range on everything almost as low as if they where pacified, they made all the minibosses static spawns, my wizard sees mage staffs, essences of vampire, shattered emerald's of corruption, etc all the time while he *SOLOS* in hate trying to do the marsinger quest....
On the other hand i do agree with you on PoM, not because i liked it when it was easier, i do appreciate a challange, However, Unlike any zone i know to date the original PoM was 98% flavor, the only loot was from long tedious quests, It was more fun to just explore and run around than to be uber and kill everything for fat loots, there are dozens and dozens of zones just like what they turned PoM in to, there was only one like what PoM was...
In my opinion they need to change it the **** back and make a uber raiding zone out of VP, after all it WAS a raiding zone it's just horribly outdated.
Not all epics. I may never get my shaman epic due to the inclusion of the Ireblind Imp in PoFear. Although the golems may be one groupable, the ireblind imp has swallowed guilds capable of getting deep in the planes, then wiping out recovery raids. Because of this PITA mob, my guild has no interest in going to PoFear due to the risk of corpse loss. I can't convince them to go, risk vs. reward is horrible, i dont blame them.
Musta been unfortunate circumstances or poorly run raids of folks that can get deep into the planes. I ran partly and then a friend took over a pickup open raid with a 3 halfway elemental flagged folks (a month ago) and about 15 other noobish (read 55 - 63) poorly to average equipped folks. We killed everything but Ireblind and CT with no problem on the break-in (Ireblind was up sitting on the west wall) and only a few deaths. And yes, we got 2 shammy's their tears. My point, Fear isn't much harder the folks wiping in there just need to work on their strategy.
I'm in a family guild that raids places like Kael, Tier-1 PoP and old world planes, and if we can raid Fear, then any half-decent guild can. The last raid a few weeks ago the Imp didn't spawn, but from what I've heard they changed it about then so a non-KoS Imp spawns first and if you don't kill them the KoS Imp won't spawn. Even when the Imp did spawn, we were able to run them off to a far corner of the zone, then recover bodies and continue the raid.
In fact, the last break-in was so easy I'm planning to go soloing Fear when I get bored with PoM and get my Mage staff from PoH...
Everyone can bish and moan all they want about zones being upgraded and being made too hard, and henceforth not being able to be geared for planes...
However, it doesn't mean they are right. First of all, why would you start with Kael mobs to equip yourself for raids when you can do LDoN's?? Some of the gear you can get is just Outrageous, the better stuff beats ornate gear. Sure, LDoN's take time, but so does everything else... EverQuest is a game of patience... You have to play it forever to keep up and have nice gear.
You can also think of another huge factor... The Bazaar. With LDoN came a bunch of new droppable that was really easy to get and fairly decent, granted most of it has high a recommended level.
I'm by no means "Uber" in EverQuest. A tank with 8.5khp and 1500ac is less than mediocre with the addition of Gates of Discord. At level 55 I had the cheapest, crappiest gear on the market, but it did the job until I got to 65. The key to EverQuest, and I know I'll get some arguement out of this one, Isn't always what gear you have - It's getting to 65 and getting AA's. If you buy some cheap gear, learn how to play your class WELL, and do some research, gear will come in time. There are plenty of targets out there that a solid group of non - elemental WELL played characters can destroy and get some very very good loot from.
Do your research... Veksar - Very easy zone with insanely easy drops that can carry you into your 60's, or be sold for 10k + ... Dragon Necropolis - Those Z-heart's that you see for sale for so much? Yeah Zland can be done with 2 people, VERY easily with 1-2 groups.
As you can tell, I'm not flaming anyone or putting anyone down. Just trying to help anyone out a little bit. EverQuest is a game of progression; The way I see it, they are trying to get people to see how easy it is to get 65 and start raiding.
Please, don't just assume that everything in the game is crazily tough because you've had some rough luck. Just buckle down and suck it up, or find a new game.
/Rant on Revamping PoM to PoP type setting is Such BS. I am sorry SOE if your too stupid to figure out that not everyone has time to join a guild that requires 24/7 Raiding. Some Smaller guilds would like to hit the old world zones to get better equiped so that they can make the planar Progression.... But NOOOOO you idiots that let us play the game for fun get to look at all the F**KING uber items that get linked to us. Knowing damn well we will never have that. Thank you very little. All I can say is to all you GEEKS/NERDS at SOE that have no life and live to Play this game... UNPLUG and get a real life. Then you will see how hard it is to get some of the nicer items in PoP or Gates when you cant play 24/7. My money is just as good as the people or you geeks at SOE that do play 24/7 and we would like to be able to better equip "our Character" Even though we "PLAY FOR FUN"
/rant off
Sorry everyone that is a power player no offense to you, just SOE for being utterly stupid. Becuase the way the game is set up unless your in an UBER GUILD your not going to make the planar progression and they are slowly taking old world zones and revamping them so you have to be PoT Geared to hit the old world zones. Which in my opinion if I was PoT geared/flagged I sure as hell would not be going to PoM /sigh
Becuase he paid for a game where he is being ignored and overlooked. THAT'S why. SOE, like any other company, MUST cater to all available customers. His base point, though deeply hidden within rage, is that it's a bad move to limit the actions of people beyond being in a High end raid guild.
i think they ARE trying to scare the casual players off of EQ so they will jump on the EQ2 bandwagon when it comes out, think about it and it will all get clearer
1/ they need to revamp old world zones. before u flame me take a look at what the average "newbie" has in comparison to what the "newbie" had during the beging 2 or 3 years of the game.
when kunark was out i had a lvl 15 warrior in full bronze with a langsaux and a PGT and i was conisdered "very twinked" now i would be laughed out of any group i tried to join.
2/ when was the last time u took a newbie with average "newbie" gear into Black Burrow? u absolutly OWN the zone. a lvl 7 or 8 necro can whipe the zone out (i know i just made one)
i am a casual player BTW. i dont have uber characters, im not time or elemental flagged, im not even 3rd tier pop flagged for god sacks... and i STILL think they need to revamp old world zones,
now if u "casual" players want to make it an excuse to walk over zones thats just tough.... PoH and PoF were Designed to be zones where u had a good chance of losing your bodies.
I think you missed the point really. PoP & GoD have put most casual and newer players two xpansions behind the top tier guilds already, and if OoW requires GoD type equipment to be successful then we will be three xpansions behind. Also, one must acknowledge that when YOU first played there were a LOT more options as far as guilding goes....Most new players are twinks of characters already in big guilds so finding a sufficient raid force to do old world content is becoming ever more difficult. Also, because most of the newer guilds tend to be comprised of younger more inexperienced players it makes it more difficult to have a successful raid especially when the content is made more difficult and the room for error is less. You see, we may have better "bazar" equipment then you did and the zones might be a tad easier in relation to level and equipment then you experienced, but the mobs hit harder and faster which leaves far less room for error...one more point - the loot dropped by most of these zones are not even worth the time when you consider that better weapons can be purchased with far less effort. Dragging a guild through an old world zone over and over for loot that you will most likely let rot is not something most people would agree to.
Common sense would say that these zones should be left as they were so newer younger players can better learn what it is to raid and pick up what loot they can in order to keep then in the same realm as the big guilds.... People like you think that everyone who isn't in a big raiding guild must not be trying hard enough are playing long enough, well that just isn't true. I have been playing for two years now and have 60ish AA's. I have all the gear I can get that is droppable and some No drop loot as well from 1st tier planes, but my max HP is still HALF of what a raiding SK has ATM. I play for about 3 or 4 hrs a night 5 or 6 days a week, but it just so happened that I started this game to late and didn't meet the right people along the way in order to smooze my way into a raiding guild...So i guess that means that I should be doomed to mediocrity? Thankfully, I find other reasons to play this game then just improving my toon so I;m not bitter, but I am looking forward to EQ2 if for no other reason that I can start off equal to everyone else and have a fair chance to be the best.
okies honestly is this guy 1 gruop doable?? so like 2 clerics (1 being 2 boxed and not in gruop) 2 sk's (1 2 boxing the 1 cleric) 1 druid 1 chanter and one other melee that hunt together almost everyday and work fairly well together?? let me know thanks
oh you must be mistaken.....you take a single group up there now and see what happens. he will whipe the floor with you haha. BB had a little make over.
Ha ha ha, I remember when he first showed up, Irontaail from Triton on Povar was soloing him for crying out loud ^_^. Looks like BB finally got his godhood in the mail.
When he first.... PoM, if I remember my EQ history correctly, was one of the ORIGINAL planes.. it was before even Kunark.... Bristlebane has been around a LOOOONG time. So, I DOUBT he was solo'd at a time a clear majority of weapons in the game did less damage than delay.
Should show you what he looks like dead, and at least a picture of one of loots. Can't remember the exact names of the other two, but at least one of the loots was a SoD type of weapon that looks just like a fine steel mace.
This is addressing posts further down the page about BB before the PoM revamp requiring a full group. Apparently he was solo'd by a monk with a Fungi. This used to be a pretty well known legend that seems to have faded into obscurity. Here is the write-up by the monk who did it.
10/10/2003. the revamped Bristlebane the King of Thieves was killed by CtV. Serverwide first, its thought. ( http://www.clantaveren.com/ )
Dropped a caster robe, melee shoulders, and a rogue/bard dagger. All but the robe rotted. The loot was not up to par with the difficulty of the encounter.
Hegemony of Rodcet Knife attempted Bristlebane King of Thieves on 10/14
To spawn you have to kill a Maneatical Jester or something, hits 900ish no enrage, flurry, ramp, etc. He drops nothing. Spawns BB, entrance is far left door on WEST wall.
BB hits 1800 or so, upwards of 1950 at times.. so he likes like a frickin truck. Little less than Rydda`Dar/MM, hits dang fast too
Mitigates slow, Magic slowable is what I heard through all the hub-bub.
Has an AE Mischievous Mayhem described below Also has a proc, forget the name, was told it was 200dmg/tick only on MT. Cannot be avoided.
Also banishes people to Misty Thicket, and spawns 2-3 Jester adds that hit upwards of 800 and can tripple.
His AE is ZONEWIDE. Once we engaged people from zone in started shouting they were turned into 1/2lings as well.
First attempt we had 36 and got him to 89%.. 2nd attempt we gathered around 50 and he ended up banishing people SUPER fast, like one person every 5 seconds, was random from what I saw. Stopped banishing around 35 people. We got him to around 60%, didn't see much anything after that.
He doesn't have a lot of HP, but he's definately a 10 for 10 pain in the ***** Doable with a nice strategy, nice loot too.
Taking a shot here Illia..any more then about 35 peeps he banishes? Since he didn't really banish alot at 36 peep but yet when they came with 50 peeps he banished fast and alot til they were at 35. "More then I see, I must banish thee"... so am I close? ROFL
Douglas Adams= The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and the 6 or so almost series books. ( So Long and Thanks for All the Fish , Mostly Harmless ) etc...
Yes he gates out people to their bind point and misty thicket not sure how random it is. WE had 35 got him to 63percent would have been like 58 if hadnt got ported out =( Adds that hit for 900ish come at 15 percent. WE had like 2 bards no enc so we didnt know if they were mezzable i believe one got a resist. anyways hes dooable but he does quad 1800. any info on how to keel him would be nice
The trigger is a Michievous Jester located right before BB's throne room. red con, nothing special, hits for 900ish. Povar First Spawn of new Bristlebane 10/12/03 by 26 people. We failed 3x -- we only had 3 clerics lol. Best we got him to was 91%.
He hits for 1800, doesn't quad for what I know. He does cast a suck AoE:
1: Decrease Spell Haste by 40% 2: Illusion: Halfling 3: Decrease ATK by 150 4: Increase Movement by 80% 5: Increase Curse Counter by 18
He also casts an instant TL to misty thicket, not sure of the name however.
Picture of our first pull (his aggro range is nuts and it seems that FD didn't mean anything to him. We sent a monk it to see what he hit for and well... he then aggro'd us way down the hall.)
the spell icons in pic 1 look like the spell icons you get in warcraft 3 for your heroes (i mostly noted immolate [demon hunter ability] and blizzard [wizard ability]) if thats real how can i add that to my UI?
If his zone wide AE has ilusion Hafling, then can you use a differant ilusion to "block" it?
As any enchanter knows, when you already are in ilusion form, and you cast a second it tellls you it can't take hold, I wonder if it would work for this as well, or if it overwrites other ilusions...
Heres a little of what I know about the 'Real' Bristlebane (as of zone re-vamp). He is popped by a mob in the zone, should be easy enough for you to figure that out !
anyhow.....
He Quads for up to 1800 Flurries and has an AoE spell slower (real pita) Have fun trying him :)
I killed Bristlebane a few days ago with some guys i met in PoM. He dropped only "a red crown" (card) and 5 pp. Was server first kill on Antonius Bayle ! :D
The stories of that 2 and 4 people who killed him are just poor lies. You really need a slower if you want to kill him in a 6-man grp.
