Another Tactic
# Dec 21 2003 at 6:10 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a 59 ranger and was trying to help a 52 mage friend get the burning embers. I first tried bow kiting it to the camp we had set up. BIG mistake. A few falls (lev wore off), couple hornet adds, a sarnak, and a skelly along with the overgrown wurm nuking me got me down to 8pct health before I got everything rooted. Healed myself up, snared all the adds, and had to retrack Phur since I had ran outside his agro range. Once I got him back, I rooted, backed up, and bow shot him and gave loc to party members. It did gate once it was down to around 20 percent, but tracked it before it healed another ten and we took it down before it tried to gate again. So if you can get a rooter, a tracker, and an archer (or get a ranger to do all three), it can be a pretty easy, although long, fight.

Popped on my way to the Sarnak temple. Got him down to 8% solo and it gated. It did take a lot of mana but it was easily done at 52. I recommend you hit it fast with mid level spells near the end to hopefully disrupt any attempted gate. Hope you have better luck than I did.

Was a pretty interesting fight. I had already looted Red Wurm Gut off Nez weeks ago when someone called in OOC that it was rotting. I didn't even know who Phurzikon was tonight when I saw him on track. Decided to give it a shot-- not knowing he was a caster.

I had 4 chants up using Drums of the Beast which do 78/tick each. Fire did not land, as it normally doesn't on wurms. As soon as he cast the first spell, I swapped Chant of Flame for Elemental Chorus. My resists with song are around 150.

My technique was to keep Elemental Chorus up at all times and also to run out of casting range everytime I saw him begin to cast. Then I'd run to within chant range and land a couple on him. I resisted most of the stuff he got off while I was in range. Thankfully I resisted all Immobilize attempts. A couple of fire based nukes landed on me for 100-250 so I'd play Chorus of Replentishment w/o strings for a bit while still keeping EC up.

Got him down to less than a bub twice and each time he gated/shadowstepped and healed about an extra bub of health. I did not know how long he could continue gating since I ran out of range for many of the spells.

Finally, he went OOM and hit run mode. I was elated as I chanted him easily to death.

I had to refresh Selos about 4 times so I estimate that the whole fight took about 15-20 minutes.

Dropped Wurm Scale Coat, meat, and Flame of Vox.

Heh.. I tried at 51 and was suprised when he was a caster and hit me with some spell that nocked my mana down to 50%.

I took after "Sir Robin" and "ran away." He rooted me, but the tactic I used was to hit him with Sionche's Dream, and kept that up until the root wore of, then switched to selos and was nearly out of the zone before mez broke.

Now I'm tying ta think tactics that might allow a 51 to do this adventure! :)

Marys vs the Dragon: a bard song

Here I sit a broken hearted bard,

Who tried to solo Phurz but was ripped to shards.

They said he was pure melee
but they where wrong,

I turned and ran without delay,
because i had not meded my resist songs.

Was told by a 60+ something shammy that mob was pure melee, so charmed a wurm for a lil help and went at it. Phurz ripped into pet, ripped into me, killed pet and nearly killed me with fire attacks ranging upwards of 600pts damage....turns out shammy had never experience the magic of Phurz because his 60+ pet is pretty uber and takes it all. After my near escape, the said shammy helped me to kill (killed for me) 4 Phurz that spawned one after another , all the while managing adds as well.......unfortunately no guts, though 2 wurm scale coats did drop. not bad

Okay this is getting to be a real pain. I have been camping the named wurms with my 51 Mage for almost 2 weeks on and off. I am able to solo them - chain casting pets etc. Total kills of named wurms have been 22 and NO Burning Embers. For such a minor part of our epic, this is getting ridiculous. Anyone else been having this problem? Anyone find a better kill time - night/day?
Only good thing is i started at 12% exp..as of now I am 82%. Soon all will be green by the time the Embers drop:(

Here are the stats of today :
PH's: 40
Phurzikon : 5 (not a single drop)
Nezekezena : 6 (5 bard guts and eventually blood emebers)
Gylton : 0

Almost soloed him
# Feb 02 2003 at 6:18 PM Rating: Decent
With my 45 bard. Didn't even know what he was for at the time but I charmed a normal wurm and then let it attack the nearest thing. It attacked this guy. So I soon realize he's a caster and beating the crap out of my pet. Pet dies. I decide to take the chance and try kitingh him. I get him down to 40% health without him ever even trying to cast a spell. Then I charm him (got him on first try) and made him make short work of the adds I aggrod. He kills them and then once uncharmed and at about 30% I kite him around again.

Then the big dummy finally realizes that he can root and does so. I try fearing him.. nope. He kills me.

After I get my corpse I wanna try again (seeing as I almost had him the first time) This time he completely changed his tactics and chain nuked the crap out of me in the 400-700 range. Ouch. Gonna wait a few levels till I try him again..

I find it amusing to see people talking about bringing groups to tackle this mob. Braukken, specifically. A bard sat there and sang mana song so some wizzies could nuke. What a twinky little mana battery. He could have been replaced by a couple castings of C3. I soloed Phurz today as 51 bard. Ended with 80% health and 85% mana. A 46 bard could do it. Go back to playing your druid main.

We took him down with 1 guy tanking him, and another handling adds. Casters just kinda sat around.

THAT is why you bring a group. I solo BW all the time, and DO kill mobs that are tougher than this guy, but I do not do it in the area where this guy pops.

Sarnak Extremists can solo yer **** EASY at 51. They'll root ya, and then proceed to lifetap, nuke, and dot yer **** to death.

Adds are the reason you bring a group.

Once 55 or so, you could prolly handle solo. You could also handle the adds if you got some form of root (even clickable in an item), to keep them adds down until this thing fell.

Just because Reason was able to do it, don't mean you will get so lucky. That don't mean you need to gather a very strong force, just be prepared to deal with whatever may run up on ya.

Not to mention that the camp where this thing pops is great for AA.

As I do some research for my Wizzie, it seems that a 50th-ish mob that drops a Coat with improved damage for up to 44th level spells is yet another case of stoopid Verant logic. I would expect that a 54th caster would be over using 44th level spells for the most part - doesn't that make it mostly useless? Or am I gonna get some flaming for this one?

Phurzikon not bad
# Aug 21 2002 at 11:39 AM Rating: Decent
Well I tried to solo Phurzikon with a 54 Druid. It nukes very fast about every 5 seconds, when you are in its casting range. It never did summon. My resist to magic is only at 60. Most spells did not stick to me but when they did 550 damage per shot (outch). Got it down to less than 1/2 a red bubble of health and it Gated. Maybe it Gated because I was out of its casting range. It did not resist the DoT (Drifting Death) and the problem I had was every time it wore off, I had to get back into the cast range and It would nuke me and interupt the spell, before I could get off the next DoT and Root. So if you are ready for the this mob you can solo it with a 54 Druid. Just buff up with regrowth, magic resist, cast Ensnare, Root and Dot, and stay out of the casting range.

A bit tricky now

Was helping some friends get some exp here, and noticed this guy on track, thought a named would be fun, as I had hunted him before, and wasnt that tough, about the same as your usual wurm with some more HP, and casts a little. Since the patch, he can and will Chain cast Ice Comet on you. I was pulling, and got tore up by the IC, first one took down about 1/3 of my HP, he cast again, another 1/3, and then a third IC took me down.
Next pull (after rez) I put on my MR and CR gear, and got resistance buffs (MR = 153, CR = 141) and went at him, and made it a bit easier. Also brought a bard along to charm him off and on the whole way back to prevent the chain casting effect (it worked btw). Got him to the group and proceded to own him. (Lvl 57 Bard, 54 Pally, 54 Wizzy, 51 Wizzy, 45 Necro, and Myself 54 Ranger).
Just be careful of the chain casting of high level nukes, makes a very tough pull, goodluck.

All you need to know about Burning EMbers

Ok, I have been camping nez and phurz for a while now. This is what I know. I KNOW They spawn on a 90 second cycle at EXACTLY neg450 neg2550.

However, they may spawn also at a few other locations around here, because I have seen nezekezena spawn behind me while I was camping neg450 neg2550 (and no, it wasn't already up before i started camping the loc). PH can be many things in the zone, but not anything. PH will always be either:

Scoriae hornet, sarnak champion, forest giant verdant, sarnak zealot, moldering gorilla, greater plague skeleton, wurms or forest giant ancient.

THe most common seem to be sarnak champions, sarnak zealots, wurms and greater plague skeletons.

I think all of the PH's will con dark blue to a level 54. PH's are usually a pretty high level.

NEzekezena is always level 51, and she WILL gate and chain summon your group to death (did it to me 2 times). She does not gate to neg450 neg2550 either. If i remember correctly she gates to pos2700 pos1000, then chain summons you.

Phurzikon cannot gate and is MUCH easier. You still need a full group to take this spawn site, and a cleric and enchanter would be very helpful.

I would saw a named wurm spawns between 1/3 and 1/4 of the time, and PH's spawn the rest of the time. YOu need a good group, because nezekezena can easily spawn 2 times in a row in a span of 90 seconds.

Adds are also very deadly. Try not to root nezekezena because she will gate and chain summon you. If you root phurzikon, phurzikon will gate, but she will not summon you. Try to attack them as soon as they spawn because they damage shield themselves. Annul Magic would help.

Nezekezena drops Guts ALMOST every time. I know one time neze dropped embers and did not drop the guts. Phurzikon also dropped the embers once for me. I killed them both a total of about 25 times, with 2 BE drops. I also killed gylton about 15 times with no drops, so i dont know if he drops it, but i can confirm both neze and phurz do drop burning embers.

All the info here seems accurate. As I am typing this my friends and I just managed to begin the cycle. No named so far, but "an ember hornet" is counted amond the PHs.
*EDIT* : "a Sarnak avenger" aswell

Location neg450 neg2550 is right. Just need to kill everything around and keep and eye on the loc to see if something pops there and the cycle can begin :)

FYI, Phurzikon can indeed gate. Gated twice on our group today before we killed her. Never summoned after gating however. Eventually came wandering back to same area where it gated. I think he had a typo when he said Phurzikon cannot gate (may have meant Phurzikon cannot summon)

BYW, took it very easily with 53 mage, 52 mage and a 43 enchanter (other than getting gate off, which happened both times b/c we were busy dealing with crowd control)
Lol Your info sucks

Neze and Phur are on same cycle.. 90 second spawn at exactly neg 500 , neg 2500 Spawn is any number of random BW mobs, once you have the cycle you can just sit and kill the PH one by one. Need a good group to complete. Tanks and clerics included as Nezekazea will summon. Neze drops the red wurm guts EVERY TIME, as is extremely common.. average one Nezekazea every 12-15 spawns i.e. 20 minutes.. Phurzikoin a bit rarer at about 1 per 1/2 hour Drops suck tho currently for me and my guild 37 Neze, 12 Phurzkion.

I have heard much complaining about this camp and wanted to offer some feedback. Just did this last night (4/13/02). Was 3 mages, 1 druid, 1 bard. I know, we should have had a 6th - but didn't happen.

Don't approach this place as a chore - other than the insane adds, it's a nice xp and loot camp for a group of 47s-52s. With the 3 mage pets going bonkers, I (bard) sat back and did mana (felt a bit worthless). Druid added nukes, snares, and heals.

2 of the mages needed embers, I needed guts. I secretly thought it would be hopeless to get 2 sets of embers. However, in about 1-2 hours we had Neke pop twice and Phur pop 3 times. Neke dropped guts both times and Phur dropped embers 2 of the 3 times.

Honestly, I was a little bummed it dropped so fast because the xp was so good.

The moral of the story is, go there with a good group of friends and camp for xp - the drops will come.

After sitting at this camp for 2 hours with no named pops we were getting frustrated. Eventually we must have killed the PH once that is accomplished this camp is very easy. We had a full group here trying for mage and bard drops making it very easy to kill them if you fear kite and a chanter mezzes the adds. I just want to stress here the spawn time really is 2 minutes at the above loc but the PH can be ANY mobs not just wurms. Skellys, hornets, sarnak, wurms, among other things all were PH. Once you kill them though you can get named to spawn repeatedly. Within another 2 hours we had 20+ named pops, 3 bard pieces dropped 1 cloak and FINALLY a burning ember.

Bah I jsut fought there with a druid 53 mag 55 pally 54 war 51. Even if Phurz poped twice in like 3 hours we got no coat, no epic piece.

The mag died once. And a druid could NEVER handle the camp alone. The repop is too fast, and that s assuming he can med avoiding all the adds...

soloing phurz is doable kinda easily at 53, but you can never keep the cam pwithotu a kidna good grp.

A full grp 50ish with either bard/chater or cleric to have enough mana to heal (our druid never went over 20% mana) should be ok.

I know why this item is so worthy, the camp is hard long, and quite boring.

Last info I heard was that Phurizkon no longer drops the guts needed. To get the guts for the epic you need to get Nezekezena. On the same cycle as Phurizkon, but not lvl 45, Neze varies from 46 - 51 according to this beastiary.

I have been camping phurzikon for a Guilde Magician for a few days now. I have killed phurzikon solo 3 times. Phurzikon spawns at the cooridinates given, and walks a fairly straight path along -2500 going up and down on the first coordinate. A very easy solo for a druid 53+. Could be done by a capable druid 49+ with ES VAMBS, and some time to kill... If she gets rooted with low health, she will gate. So far she hasn't gated on me at low health, if I keep root off of her, and stay in aggro range. Soloing, it can be difficult to get a stun spell off(or unresisted) before she gates, so I recommend saving some mana for a little kiting at the end. After phurz goes down you have 90 seconds before Nez or another PH pops.

Ive soloed this kinda easy as a lvl 53... With Es arms and lumistaff i only used about 2bubs of mana, and with 150mr, those forceshock nukes are fully resisted most of the time... when they occasionally lands it is for a max of 100dmg...
cape didnt drop though, and i really need that. Scouting out this site i now know where they pop (500,-2500)and think im gonna camp it out...
Prolly should bring some friends for nekezena, but i think im gonna try her solo once first just for the kix of it, havent been creamed really good for a really long time now, so i think i kinda need it just to keep on my toes :)

Yeah.. spawned Nekezena the other day and tried to kite her down.
Went quite well for one bub or so, fully resisted all the forceshocks, and coldnukes did from 10 to 150dmg with an average of 30-40, with decent resists...
But then one of a sudden the f...in ...b..ch of .. a .. f ..t..c g.t d.mn.. wurm started to chainsummon me =(

Got summoned no less than 9 times fore i finally bought it, last 5 times while i desperately tried to jerk off a gate...

Nekezena had me for lunch.. well not even that.. she shoved my own lumistaff up my **** and had herself a Menthal-on-a-stick, this is snack, kinda deal
