The true spawn of SF
# Oct 06 2002 at 11:29 AM Rating: Decent
OK here is the scoop after camping SF for 50 straight hrs this is it First SF spawns 16 to 20 hrs apart. second spawn timer is rest on server down time. this is a major pain in the **** du to the fact that I play on the test server. OK now he will skip first spawn form server up so that is 32 hrs after server up. this is always true. then after he spawns he will respawn every 16 to 20 hrs for 2 turns then skip a spawn then spawn 2 more cycles then skip.
his spawn point is right behind the tree with the 3 gnomes/ to avoid argo if you are not dubious to the cougers sit at the tree looking up the hil right where the branch touches the ground and turn up the volume on you Comp so if you dont havr trac you can here him. Good luck to all.

SF Down! Nolly Loot!

Hell yes! Stormfeather down. 48hours after his last sighting. 31hours was my time sitting waiting. After a bit of staring and zoning out, I had to force myself to get up and start cleaning up the things around the house while I waited. I remember someone posting on hearing his wings when they logged on. I took the precaution of turning my speakers up a bit. Even though I was in the next room I could hear him flapping away. Without a doubt knowing it was him, I ran back into the room with my comp and sit down just in time to see SF calmly stroll by. Not sure how many times I had to hit attack before I started to hit him. He drops no pp loot. Hits for about 70max that I recall. He spawns at the 3 gnomes and roams at a North-West direction up the hill. There is No PH, no hidden trick to make him spawn, and from my calculations the 19hour spawn and skips spawns does not hold true to my camping experience. SF was killed at 6pm Sunday Sept. 29th I killed SF 6pm Oct. 1st and as you can see as I posted above, thats 48hours. By any means may luck be your guide in this quest. Congrats to all that succeed.

I had camped him a long time ago one boring weekend with no luck, I just got the Lodi piece yesterday so I decided to camp him again. Servers came up from patch at 1AM and I was able to kill the stalker, but SF was already being camped, so I went to bed. Woke up at 10am nobody was at camp. 12 hours later (19 hours after up from patch on the nose) BAM! Hello StormFeather. I was watching the screen when he poped right next to me and snaped a pic, he apeared close to the edge of the water and started flying uphill to the top point of the him. I was standing in his path and got attacked just after I took this pick...

My 2cp....230+ hour Raster Camper
# Sep 18 2002 at 10:11 PM Rating: Decent
You think camping soemthing for 20 to 80 hours is bad, trust me people it can be worse. My first try at SF was only for about 4 hours or so, didn't see a thing. Would like to know if there are anyother tips / hints that I might try for round 2.

"At around the 230th hour of camping Raster in Lguk I finally realized that I had earned enough money from all my trips down there to buy the MQ. (purchased one day later for 3kp)"

Okay, flame me if you wish, but I gotta relay a piece of information I've learned through experience. STORMFEATHER IS NOT A TIMED SPAWN.

I sat in Iceclad for days on end hearing the following;

1. Stormfeather is a 19 hour spawn

2. Sometimes he skips spawns, and killing cougars will free up pathing so he can spawn

3. He ALWAYS pops two hours after Lodizal

Folks, none of these came true in me over 30 hours of camping him. I saw Lodi die twice while waiting, killed over 1000 cougars. Nothing. I watched as people popped in at the 19 hour mark over and over, checking for him. Then one night, on a whim, at a time FAR from his next supposed pop time, I logged on and killed about 11 cougars. I was the only one there (the last guy left about 5 minutes after I arrived, then BAM, from under the tree comes Stormfeather. Is the because I freed up his pathing by killing 11 cougars? Nope. The cougars were being decimated all day. It's simply because I got there at the right time for a random pop.

I can also add to this conjecture the following statement, taken from the SONY message boards...

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

Players have timed this guy to a 19 hour spawn who sometimes skips. This, combined with Lodizal (an even rarer spawn) make it almost impossible to complete the Iceland map quest without days of mindless, boring waiting. I've heard reports of players sitting for 80 plus hours waiting for this guy. The quest already has one bottleneck with Lodizal as players must be lucky enough to be in on the kill, and also win the roll. The Stormfeather thing is excessive. Why should we have to sit around for countless hours to complete a quest? Could you maybe look into upping the spawn time, or perhaps at least change it from skipping spawns?

Here's more information from the team:

While I didn't personally design the quest I have assisted players in it's completion with my play character. One friend doggedly camped the spawn location for over two days straight before obtaining the component it carries. Another friend put a bounty out for players who were hunting the normal spawns in the area, he paid a generous sum to the first person to tip him off when the creature appeared. I guess it's up to you how you want to play the game and how important each particular item is to your character.

It's a random spawn, not timed, and as you pointed out it can be very rare. The quest yields arguably the best facepiece in the game so I don't predict a reduction in the difficulty of obtaining it.

As a team I know we're committed to pushing the envelope in regards to what we can pull off contentwise. I feel we've made some significant enhancements lately that will enable us to provide even more compelling content in the near future.

I agree with post just below me that its completely random. A total of 87hrs i have spent at the tree waiting for something and NOTHING... I understand it's a great facepeice but it isnt anywhere near being arguably the best face peice jus look at the items at the bottom of this list http://www.allakhazam.com/db/listitem.html?sort=Total+Stats&invslot=Face&cfilter=0&statfilter=None
on another note i coulda easily finished my epic and done quite a few raids in the time i spent in this hell hole of a camp. people spend straight days waiting for this griffon... first off this is very unhealthy to go 3-4 even 5 days w/out sleep and it is VERY UNREASONABLE. This is BS that an item that is far below being arguably the best should take Many times more to get.

I camped this **** for 3 days straight..no sleep, no naps nada. When came along a lonely n00b asking "you looking for stormfeather?"I say yah been here 3days nuthin. He syays "oh u know how to make him spawn?" . And of course i know of no such way. And he then tells me. And it worked! No more than 20 min after trying what he said SF spawned for me.What u do is this. You kill every Cougar that paths by the tree, i got 3 total. 2 from bottom left of the tree(facing the gnomes) and one spawned on the side of the hill. I killed them for about 5 cycles and BAM SF poped. As for where he pops its near the tree. If your sitting with the gnomes he will aggro u on pop. Good luck all hope thi helps

I was camping stormfeather in ic for almost 13 hours (straight, i ate meals etc at the comp, only getting up occasionally to do a quick bathroom break), i went ld so rushed to get back, as soon as i log on i hear "whoosh whoosh whoosh" i say to myself "OMG HOORAY ITS STORMFEATHER!!" and imediately play "defy you" by the offpring on winnamp (my song of victory). Killed him fairly fast by fear kiting him, i threw in a ht right at the beginning too in fear that someone would come along and try to ks me. Dropped me the map and some kewl claws, not the best but decent stats for getting for free. Just thought id like to mention how sticking to a camp can pay off. I'm off to bed now, been up too many hours... tomorrow i start the dire wolf part of the quest, hopefully sometime while im still in ic lodi will pop for my guild to kill too, /sigh i hope i get my patch soon... well, night all... /me collapses due to lack of sleep

I am planning to camp SF some weekend soon. I would like a bit more info though. When you arrive at this camp there is a tree with 3 gnomes next to it, and there is a hill. I am wondering if I should sit at the top of the hill (cant see the gnomes from there) or in the middle of the hill? I have read in several posts here that he spawns near the top of the hill, if this is correct it would be a good idea to sit up there, but I dont want to miss him because he spawned next to the gnomes instead. Has anyone *seen* him pop who can confirm where to sit? Since I would probably sit/hide while camping him, and read or do something else, he may not agro me upon popping but I want to be sure he would be within my range of vision.

Also... this is so very camped on E.marr, I just cannot believe the posts of people saying "got SF now have to get Lodi..."! Or the < level 50 level people who camp him without having the lodi part. Lodi is not rare at all, but if you are in a guild with mostly people between 45 and 55 it might take 2-3 groups to kill him for you guys, and at least on emarr, you almost never have the time to port in 12-18 people. He is not respected as a camp... how do you plan to get the lodi peice?? It boggles me.

I wish VI would make SF level 60 like loidzal, but have him pop at least once a day. Would be soo much better.

Ok, after getting the Lodi piece off of a lucky jump on the st00pid turtle, I decided to undergo this quest. I read all of your passages about the bastage SF, and was not looking forward to him. I moved my computer into my living room, with TV, VCR, DVD, PS2 and all ready to live the next 60+ hours on a couch watchin a computer screen. I started at 8pmPST, waiting for him to pop. About 10pm a 60 SK came up and asked if he had popped yet. I was wary of him, as the only thing that worried me was a higher level SK. Eventually he left, saying he knew when SF was due, and he'd be back. Well, come about 1am PST, he along with a 60 monk and a 60 warrior/ranger combo popped in and sat under MY gnome tree = \. I KNEW that any of them would try to KS me for my precious map piece, so I was a bit ticked...but I held my ground. If SF was gonna die, I was gonna make sure that I had a hand in it. So, come about 230PST they all left, and I knew when to be expecting the st00pid bird. I made myself ready for 18 hours from 1am PST. In my tired state, however, I figured, well...18 hours ahead, I can just subract 6 hours from 1am and that would give me the spawn time...somehow,with my ub0r math skills I was expecting him at 6pm PST. so, I got my dr00d friend to come hang out with me, as the 60 SK was FD and afk at the camp as well...about 630pm PST I realized the error of my math, and that stormy wouldn't be popping for another 2 hours, if at all...I got a little upset, but figured, she's a good friend, she'll stick with me until then...and she did. SO, I went to the kitchen, made a PBJ sandwich and sat back down, noticing that the SK who had shown up to take my precious precious bird was still AFK and FD. I figured in about an hour or so, a few more peeps would show up...
While chatting with a friend who had SF Ksd from him, a "cougar" hit me. "damn kitties" I thought...until I noticed this kitty was a flapping and screaching kitty! OMG OMG OMG! boom, discipline and HT triggered, 1200+ dmg instantly to the bird...dr00d nuked him 2x, then Dotted him, and I beat him as hard as my little arms could...SF down, map piece mine, KSing SK still AFK AND FD!!!! the great thing? all these "show up when he's due" campers, STILL think he's going to show up in 2 more hours...they're going to be wrong on the time FOREVER!!!! MUAHAHAHAHAHA EAT IT KSers! if you're gonna camp something, pull up a chair, put in some effort and don't try to steal a spawn from a desperate man! good luck all =)

Ok, my parents used to bereat me when i was younger, saying mowing the lawn builds character. Well, lemme tell you what builds character. I am now over 41 hours into camping this so called 'bird' as i write this, and am getting quite perturbed. WTF VI? why, oh why, make a mob that is this ridiculously rare for a quest such as this? to make matters worse, he actually did pop earlier, and i engaged him in combat, only to have the servers crash, and the GM's refuse to do anything about it. I have not slept in days, only keeping awake from smoking lots and lots and lots of cigarettes and downing industrial strength quantities of mountain dew and advil. This bird is a pain in the ***, although the outcome of your quest is worth the effert. i highly recommend, tho, to have a higher lvl (51+) sk or rogue group with you as that is the easiest way to not get KS'd on this camp. I have blurred vision, and to pass the time i'm talking with the guy camping lodi and we're teaching each other different languages... what fun, eh? well, anyways, enough ranting and raving, I couldnt' find a way to trigger him, and yes, people will try their *** off to KS you, so be prepared. oh well, GL on this mob, he's a piece of work alright.

OGFM Finally got it today about 45 seconds before i posted this, holy hell i hate stormfeather he can rot in hell now that Kentucky Fried Chicken ****. /em does the happy dance of death on Stormfeather's corpse... /em pisses pants that he ACTUALLY SPAWNED... /em smokes a ton of cigarettes to calm down... OK, now that that's over, just wanted to say finally got it, since i already have 2 posts, might as well make it a trilogy. Anyways, been on this SoB since 9pm est this last thursday (aug. 1st) finally got it tosay, about 11:53pm tuesday aug. 6, WOOT. Anyways, mob has more than 1500-1600hp, i did HT with the SK for 731, 280 on lifetap, and had several swings to put him just below Half health while my hands were so shaky i think it took me 7 tries to put auto attack on, so i figure more like 2200-2300hp. Anyways, seems to CONSISTENTLY skip 2 spawns every cycle, and this time spawned up the hill from pirates right at the top of the hill, almost missed him(i'd have been crying). I've also seen lodizal spawn several times in between camping this ****, so he's a long spawn. Verant, thanks, you suck at making a camp this long, but thanks for EQ.

WOOT, now just the easy part is left for me mask.

Well, here I am again, later in the day, and still unsuccessful in my attempts to procure a map piece for my warrior's eyepatch, this bird sucks, and has not spawned yet at all. This sucks, my hands and feet are trembling from all the caffeine i've ingested, bird still hasn't popped, i look like crap, bird still hasn't popped, i'm tired. Why, i ponder, does verant think it's cool to make a mob that spawns so rarely a mob they let people KS on? they should just up the spawn rate, or make it so that he doesn't skip spawns all the time, i mean, c'mon, it IS a No-drop piece everyone is camping this for. Oh well, i guess i'm just messed up for thinking it odd that i've seen lodizal go down twice in the time i've been camping this @#$ bird. This camp is a FFA like the AC is SRO. So if your not the first to hit the birdie then too bad try again later /shrug don't waste your time campin him for hours just pop in for an hour or two every so often and you will eventually get him.

I'm on the Zeb server. It has now been over 57 hours since he last made an appearance. The last guy waited 33 hours for him to spawn. If VI made EQ to be a "grouping" sort of game, why not make this guy pop more often but toughen him up like Lodi? It would eliminate the KS'ing that happens with this dude. Oh, BTW I HATE Shadow Knights too! I had one camp him on and off while I was there and he told me he would HT it to beat me to the kill. It's bad when you spend an entire weekend on this damn bird and still dont see a pop and if you do you have to worry about @ssh@les like this guy KS'ing you. VI needs to fix this damn quest!! What do you all think?

This is one of the worst camps. I agree this part of the quest needs to be fixed. The bird needs to spawn more frequently or you end up with 4 or 5 people camping him constantly.

Well I am vindicated. 34 straight hours and no pop. I like another poster here was tired and needed a shower, so I left a stormfeather beaten man without a pop. Then the next day I decide on a whim to get a port to IC just to see.....I walk up to the three gambling gnomes and there, uncamped, flapping for all his wings were worth was stormy. So I most happily ganked his azz. WOOT.
As some posts here say the 18 +/- 1hrs seems true. SF had been killed at 4EST from many report on the day I started camping him. He skipped a spawn on me ( darn joo ), then either skipped or popped a cycle...and finally 19hrs from then popped as I walked to his spot. Hope this is somewhat helpful to those other of us that he drives into a long, stinky, grumpy wait.
