This halfling near the docks begs you for items and money. Giving something to him, or even just hailing him, causes him to become like an enchanter pet following you around and not being able to kill it.
You say, 'Hail, a greedy beggar'
A greedy beggar says, 'Hello there, _____. I don't suppose you can spare some coins? I'm just a poor halfling that is far away from home. I can't afford anything to eat or drink. Anything you can offer me will be of help.'
As with all charm spells, any invisibility spell cast on you will break the charm and make him attack you.

i killed a greedy begger that conned green to me with my level 8 necro he had less than 11 hit points

Faction lowers with all the halfling factions of Rivervale. I killed him with one hit of Furor as a Halfling, don't worry one or two kills doesn't change anything. Now 10...

I just hailed him and he followed me didn't attack me or anything. I didn't attack anything so I don't know if he will be like a pet if you don't pay him, I guess so according to the other posts, I wonder if there are other mercenaries?

there is no way this guy couold kill anyone ! he has 10 hp !since he had a torch i killed him expecting a fight ... (i was lv 2) jeesh what a weaklingf screamin for the gaurds i aughta kill him again ... but i didnt i let him join ma group and i attacked a scarab thingy and it attacked him for 2 then 8 and he just fell over and died ... what a tard

he follows you until you zone, i had sow and ran across the zone from this terd because he wouldnt leave me alone, and about 4 or 5 mins later here he came troping along and standing there walking back and forth

Interesting. My 46 druid "donated" to the Greedy Beggar, prolly cuz he looks just the little guy :( sigh. He followed me around the zone for awhile. But when I invised myself prior to opening a door to a KOS-to-me Kaladim Citizen, the greedy beggar suprised me by shouting for guards (just like the KCs do) and then attempting a wimpy attack on me. (1 point of damage on the 4th shot.) He dropped to an enveloping root (98 pts of damage.) He may frequently be found lying sideways right outside the docks, with his torch still burning. Intriguing little guy, but I've never been able to make him act like a pet. But come to think of it, I've never tried to use a pet command on him. Hmm...

i gave him 13 silver as a newbie cleric and he followed me around, at level 1 i was able to kill chicks with him tanking for me and me healing him, made level 4 thanks to him in about 2 hours

tonight i was in BB and thought this to be a GM event or something. so i gave him like 5pp and a bronze spear. i started to randomly kill things to give him to see what would happen...It is indeed a pet once you give him something, and he will follow you like a pet.(well on Rodcet Nife at least) for i am a 35 ranger and i out ran it with so. I sowed it and buffed it and we started taking out bandits... so all you low level players out there... get you copper ready to buy a pet.. and go fight that goblin or camp that chessboard with him.. manaless level 10 pet for 1 copper... but you might want to give him a weapon.

i found this guy on the ground(feign death?) any way i hailed him and gave him a copper he started following me around, finally a bard with a pet.

Killing him gives you bad faction with the Rivervale halflings

Also, he can be killed. Give him something, hail him, then invis yourself, he will aggro on you and then you can kill him. I was angery illa didint put mine in here instead of this one, but its allright... im the one who posted the pic =)

Actually after you give it money it does follow you around like a chanter pet. The only difference is that if you turn invis it will aggro you. So in other words it is like a indefintely long charmed pet with no control functions. A cross between a charmed pet and a chanter pet. Also once you outrun him he does not return to his spot. I was sowed and outran him to other side of bb, around 3 minutes later he was back prancing around in front of me.
