I am trying to max out the Symbol of Disloyalty to Vox charm and killed this guy, but received NO hit against Vox faction. I received no faction hits whatsoever, in fact.
He has a pet, and hits me for 250 when i engage in batle, so i'm guessing he's an SK. also, the rune he drops is just called Rune of ivy. Doesn't say bottom, or top, left, right. One MOOOORE thing. he also drops fine steel a lot... a very, very lot.
Stumbled on these guys yesterday with my 40 Paladin, and they aggroed. Redwind HT of course, which took a bit of health from me (scared me for a sec until I realized he was SK). I then proceeded to destroy Redwind fairly quickly. His pet went next, in about 2 hits. Then I took on the Icy Orcs. I couldn't tell exactly which were spellcasters and which were melee at first, so I just started going at it. The casters will cast numerous times on you, and they cast dispells, malaise, and a few other things. The dispells were the biggest nuisance. Anyways, I killed them all for aggroing me, but they did get me down to about 2 bubs of health. Didn't get much cash though, and Rune of Ivy did drop, for anyone that needed it. BTW, Redwind was light blue, rest were green.

.. and he didnt even take 200hp from me. didnt cast anything, and the pet went down in 15 secs. i was expecting him to cast a lot, but nothing. good for me :)

the other day me(31 monk) and my friend(27 druid) were camped here killin em all. just harmony the others and take em out 1 at a time. after that kill em as they pop. piece of cake. oh ya and by the way that rune of ivy drops more like 75% of the time.
oops that wasnt very clear. harmony the icy orcs and take out redwind, then do the other 4 icy's 1 at a time. of course they respawn almost too fast and within an hour we almost got killed cuz 3 spawned at the same time
Currently I am a 31 ranger, so I need his drop for the Ivy armor quest. However, he still is red to me! This site is guesstimating him at 27, but I think that is off a little bit.
I just soloed this bunch earlier today. My Pally is 34, and Redwind and all but one of the others were DB. The one exception was LB.
I used Sooth on the lower ones and then pulled Redwith with my bow to seperate him from the others. He led off with a HT for 211 points and then stuck to melee. Between him and his green pet I was down to about 75% when they were both dead.
Did a rinse and repeat till I'd worked my way through all of them and had to go to work.
No, like most spawns the level will fluxuate, as a lvl 33 druid, he is normally dark blue as the rest of the icy orcs are to me. Even at lvl 32 they were dark blue to yellow.
I'm currently a level 27 Ranger and he's white to me. I killed him like ohhhh 8+ times last night. I was in a group but I'm sure I could do it alone. The harm touch wasn't so bad on me. Just like the others said.. harmony and pull one at a time. The pet is green. :)
In addition to the Rune of Ivy, Redwind once dropped a "Goblin Ice Necklace". I've searched but am unable to find this item on Allakhazam, and I'm wondering what it's for. It has a 1 copper value to merchants.
Indeed it is for a low level quest in Halas. The many goblins in the area drop the necklaces as well, much easier for a low leveler to get then from Redwind :)
Redwind is a shadow knight. He opens the fight with a 271 hp harm touch, which he can do from a distance by the way. As a shadow knight, Redwind's skeletal pet was a twit, unlike a necro's pet which tends to be closer in level to its master. He will cast clinging darkness to snare you, so if you're counting on SoW for your escape, you have been warned.
As a side note, I've never messed with him until I was 41. At that level he was single-pulled from a distance with a stun spell. The other orcs didn't aggro during the distance-pull at level 41. I killed him twice and he dropped the Rune of Ivy both times.
I have been in many groups from my upper teens that have fought and destroyed this guy. He hits hard, but falls quick if you have a powerful diverse group. Its always nice to have a druid charm an animal (mammoth) and then allow it to take the Harm Touch......saves someone getting hurt.

whilst i was going through everfrost killing wolly mamms, i saw this guy, but he was undead to me, and i just looked at the picture then on this site and he is an orc??
anyways.,,, just wanted to kniow if he spawns as a skellie much because if so, he will be alot easier for me to kill due to me being a pally :)
He is a shadowknight. It is probable that if using sense undead, you detected Redwind's pet. Redwind should never himself be undead, unless the GMs get bored and strip him of his flesh for a while )
i was running to perma for raid and i got lost. well i went exploring. found this temple thing and though i wonder whats over there. well hell got there and saw about 20 orcs beating my ass to a pulp. lasted 30 secs at most. long run from kedge keep.
can you believe that killed this guy three times and didnt get the damn rune i should have got.People told me i was supposed to get the rune 95 percent or the time thats bull and i almost died wail doing it what a waste of time goddamn it.

Just wandered through and they aggro me and run almost as fast as sow. Godamit this sucks. WTF a bunch of level 27s keep up with me running when I have sow and hit me before I can heal myself. Thats @#%^ing plain GAY!
I got the rune by killing him at lvl 24 with a lvl 31 ranger and lvl 30 warrior. We harmonied all the icy orcs then i snared Redwind. He HT me for alotta damage so i backed off and let the other 2 ppl in my group beat him up for awhile then i rejoined the fight. We soon killed him and i got my rune! We finished with everyone at about 2/3 hp. We then proceeded to pull the icy orcs one by one and by the end i had gained some killer exp.
Redwind from a Ranger point of view: Since Redwind drops the rune of Ivy which is needed for Rangers to get Ivy Bracers, you will see mostly Rangers camping Redwind.
<Ranger with a Healer (Druid, Shaman, Cleric, Paladin)> When this camp is full you have 4 Icey Orcs, 2 of which are spellcasters, Redwind, who is also a spellcaster, and his Pet. You don't want to pull all of them at once unless you really need the excitement since we Rangers do not have a charm or Mez spell. So you can harmony all of them by walking up the ramp and take about 3 steps toward them without aggro-ing them. I moved to the front left and front right hand corners of the platform and edged forward to harmony the orcs in the back row. Once they are all harmonied (except Redwind) I cast a root and a DOT on redwind, his pet will attack. You will get hit for 270 pts of damage (harm touch, I believe). His pet is a wimp, so he will drop fast. If you have a healer with you, now is the time to heal. When the root breaks, Redwind will run down the ramp and attack. He will also cast spells on you while rooted, but if you have endure magic, you should be ok. Redwind will only cast the 270 harm touch once, so you should be ok to drop him. Now he drops the Rune of Ivy 95% of the time. If he drops it. you are done. If not, then you will have to pull each orc one by one until the platform is cleared. They are much easier than Redwind, but can hold their own, so don't double up unless you are sure. Med up and now you can pull Redwind without casting Harmonies. Also it should be noted, that sometimes he spawns without his pet. I think this happens once you break the camp. If you get into trouble, root and run directy WEST. The terrain and sow will allow you to make it to the guards.
<Ranger with no healer, but with a partner with at least 400 hit points> Ok, So you need the rune and feel you can solo Redwind, but you don't have Harmony. First of all, have a partner sowed. 2nd, target Redwind. Have your partner attack Redwind via a range weapon or range spell. He will take the 270 points of damage and then draw every orc including Redwind on him. Once he takes the hit, You root Redwind, and your partner runs to the guards WEST. Once you root Redwind, you might get the pet on you, but you can take him easy. If you have a DOT, cast that on the rooted Redwind. Once the root breaks, kill Redwind and get the rune. Your partner must go slow at first to keep the orcs on his tail, if he outdistances them too much, they will return to the ramp. Just to be safe, make sure that you pull Redwind away from the ramp, in case the orcs return.
Ranger solo. If you are a lvl 32 or higher ranger, you should be able to solo Redwind by taking the initial hit and making sure all Icey orcs are harmonied. If you get into trouble you can always run to the guards West, since you have sow. I did all of these methods as a lvl 36 Ranger and my healer was a 34 paladin and another time as a 35 Druid. Good luck, any specific questions can be emailed to Regnart_EQ@yahoo.com

Posted:Feb 03 2002 at 9:20 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hey, I am a lvl 30 shaman right now, and i was thinking of starting a ranger, so if anyone is on Bristlebane server lemme now.
I killed em last night. Am a lvl 25 almost 26 Ranger. Had my partner a lvl 27 Cleric and a lvl 28 Shammy. I harmonzied his entourage and pulled em with a single arrow. He resisted snare. Pulled em and his stoopid pet back to the corner and proceeded to wipe the floor with him. His HT was pretty powerful but my cleric used celestial heal on me and a greater heal and kept pounding on him. Got the ivy ruin on first kill. Woot! Now onto the fire emerald last thing I need for bracer.
I a 26 warrior with a 27 shammy and a 29 ranger took him out very easily.Ranger Harmonized Orcs I walked up pulled bow He hit me for 230 points with the Harm Touch. Then we tore him and his pet to bits in about 30 seconds .The harm touch is nothing when he doesn't get to hit you for anything more than that.
Just took out Redwind last night with my GF a 30 Druid, I am a 30 Ranger. I have one Ivy bracelt I bought, and wanted to quest after the other one. Between the two of us, it was an easy kill.
We approached the ramp and with both of us casting harmony, hit his entourage of icy orcs. This left only Red capable of aggoing. I pulled him with a single arrow, and with the druid as my healer, I proceeded to duel wield him to death and received the rune as my reward.
He hit me with the harm touch which did do some damage, and he hits fairly hard. I doubt I would have died were my druid friend not there, but I would have been in far much worse shape in the end had she not.
Kyricus Bowmanson - Children of Disorder 30 Ranger Karana
Once when I was lvl 39 or 40 just for shts and giggles, I decided to see if Redwind would still aggro on me. I knew he didnt drop anything that was useful to me, but him and the Lich are about the only things that I havent killed or helped to kill in my home zone of Everfrost (and I mean monsters by that, hehe). So I mosied up the ramp of the ruined temple and Redwind immediately aggrod on me, and brought his whole horde of icy orcs with him. I fell back and began to root my heart out, but Redind was close enough that he fired off his HT and it hit me (which surprised the crap outta me). My pet was already goin nuts tearin the orcs, but shaman pets are laughable at best and he didnt last too long. At my lvl my pet was prbly about the same lvl as the icy orcs, so lets do the math 4 warriors + one SK and his pet vs. one shaman's pet. I would put my money on the orcs, especially since I had decided to see what was goin on in Permafrost about that time, lol. I've gotten a little bit more powerful since then, maybe I'll go back and see what Redwind is up to, and introduce him to my new line of pet spells. ;)
At lvl 30, my friend the Warrior (also lvl 30) decided to go take out Redwind for a rune (i already had one bracer given to me but wanted to quest for the other one). A 34 Warrior was soloing the spot (when i saw him pull, there was only one up; no idea how he broke the spawn). As soon as he dinged, he did not get exp for his next pull and left. We pulled 2 or maybe 3 of the orcs individually, using harmony on the mobs (worked fine for me this time though it is normally unpredictable) and then dropped Redwind. The warrior took the HT, I took most of the rest of the dmg in battle (I see now the posts saying to do that; we just got lucky that way). He dropped the rune on one try, i never had to kill him again.

This camp can be solo'd by a single level 30 Bard because I've done it. It's not great XP per kill at that level, but it's good, steady XP over time with 1-4pp per orc sometimes.
Just lull every one of them. Then I use Charm to bring each one out to a couple hundred feet from the camp. Then ramp up the magic resists by the time the Charm breaks. Once you're fighting the orcs you should be running your slow song to slow their attack and movement speed. By that time any spells cast by these orc melee shamans are practically useless. And the slow song reduces the amount of hits they get on you dramatically. And when they turn around to run they crawl away from you until they stop in snare-like fashion. A few stabs in the back and they are gone.
When you get to Redwind you need to make sure that you Charm him, and have him attack his pet. He always Harm Touches that pet. He's still under your control for a few seconds after he does his own pet in, so draw him out to the spot and use the same resist and slow method that brought his brethren down.
Songs: Kelin's Lugubrious Lament (to lull) Solon's Song of the Sirens (to pull) Purifying Rhythms (to resist poison and disease, slight AC boost)) Guardian Rhythms (to resist magic, slight AC boost) Selo's Consonant Chain (to slow target's attack and movement speed)
Basstone Trombone <Lords of Rememberance> Level 31 Bard at the time of this writing
just took this guy today. me (30 ranger) and friend also 30 ranger. he took me down to 80hp the first time we fought him, the next time, i was take down to 200hp, and the last time, i escaped with 140hp. he is rather easy, but when you try to pull the last orc, he always seems to come along. even with harmony, we always seemed to get him. he dropped the rune 2 out of 3 times.
Took Redwind tonight, myself 31 ranger, with 25 warrior and 28 (29?) necro. Warrior pulled with bow, I waited for a couple rounds before I jumped in. He took the harm touch (hp plumment to near half), and I was able to taunt Redwind off him pretty quick and went down under 3 bubbles by the end of the fight. Whoever has the 2 hander pulls and doesn't taunt. Whoever is duel wielding jumps in once he harm touches, and it isn't that hard. There's no reason to heal your puller because the puller doesn't have to take more than 400-500 points of damage (harm touch, a few rounds, and what little the pet can do). Thanks Daranure and Cerrano for the help.
I was in a group, as a 23 ranger, with a 25 ranger and a 23 druid, and we took him out 4 straight times with no problems. He dropped the rune on three of those occasions.
My EQ wife Merinu and I (both lvl 30 rangers, untwinked) were just able to pull and defeat Redwind and his pet. The first four times we pulled him he did not drop a rune, but he made consecutive drops on the next three (a lvl 20 ranger ran up for our sixth attempt, hence the extra seventh go). Three of the seven times harmony failed and we pulled an extra icy orc; this was very nearly fatal for us. He opened with a 270HT each time. If we had it to do over we would probably bring a healer friend or an extra tank, would be much safer.
Lvl 35ish?(cant remeber)druid and 3 rangers took them down easy as pie.
I recommend you pull with a stun spell, such as Fury of Air, so your tanks have more time to get ready and you can take the HT better. Got me about 60%HP, but I was fine. Harmony shouldnt be needed if they all con green to you, and the strongest member pulls
Took him out twice with group of 24 - 30. Dropped rune both times. His entourage of Icy Orcs are supposed to drop orc fang earings killed 30 of them no ear ring.
The other day after hunting in Perma for HQ Ore my son a 35 Bard and I (30 cleric) camped em for a while. I used calm to pull one or the orcs at a time and when he was alone I Stunned, Enstill, Wrath a couple times - Dead - 1/2 mana bar and Bub of health. Bard didnt even get hit. Seemed he like me better. With a Bard singing mana/regen little down time - no sweat. No Rune though. 4 kills
ok i was just passing through... i was bound at KC zone in DL, was lvl 40 at the time i think... maybe 41. mage. i saw this guy while looking for permafrost, just felt like chillin in a new place... i see this guy and suddenly my curious mind kicks in... "ooooh a named orc kill it and see if its got any lewt!" well so i make a pet, stand back and nuke this frek. 333 dmg, it ran after me... somehow my pet got attacked by the other orcs, leaving redwind meleeing me *sigh* but he didnt run up to me until he nuked me 276 (might have been harm touch i dont know but it hurt) and i tried to gate, died real fast. lucky for me there was a cleric in zone, i got 95% exp rez sighed and gated back to DL to get me a group
Went to kill some things in Everfrost at 39. I found the Icy Orcs, and killed one, then noticed 3 others behind me. I had to bail out after I was at 2 bubs of health. I didn't see anything around the first one when I nailed it. I guess they aggro from a ways.
I've got the bracer now and here is how I did. I took down Redwind with a 25 Barb Shammy, a 26 Wood Elf Ranger (me) and a 23 Barb Warrior. We buffed and stayed out of aggro range until I moved up. I cast 14(!) harmony spells trying to get him. We it finally worked, pulled with a snare (didn't stick of course). He hits hard, but with 3 on 1 he goes down pretty quick. The shammy spells did seem to stick better (maliase, etc), but that could be dumb luck. Got a monk in later and the pull was significantly easier. He drops the rune everytime.
I am considering Camping him for the Runes so i can Get armor for my Ranger Friend,..., I am a 37 necro can i pull him without having to worry about the Other Orcs joining in the Fun? Thanks for your anticipated Answers.
37 warrior tried to pull just redwind and attracted the whole lot of them on a driveby smack-and-pull. my shammie pet and he meleed them, but I managed to get dotted and died. oops, time for another corpse run...
This guy is very tough and probably a major undercon. I fought him at lvl 39 and made it out with 2 bubbs of health and mana. He hits for up to 50dmg and his HT made me lose 2 bubbs of health. Resisting his spells was easy but his pet can interrrupt your spells and be a real pain. I found that I had had to snare and root Redwind, DOT him and then take out his pet before returning to the named orc. After that I had to back up once after meleeing him, DOT him again, and heal a bit before jumping back in. But on the plus side it was very fun to conquer him =).
Since when does Redwind have a pet? I went back to pay him a visit, to help out a friend, after having not hunted him in about 8 lvl's and he has a pet now?!! Not that it was a problem ..lol but was just wondering if it was something he did special for me or a freak occurance...
Nylana Azureskye Druid of the 35th season Rallos Zek
I like to roleplay and I had this guy responsible for the death of my Barabarian Warriors father. Kicked his arse at lv 31 with ease. He harmed touched me for about 400 hp then smacked about as hard as the Icy Orcs. Get a bard or a druid to charm or harmony the orcs and you can easily do this guy when you are camping the orcs at lv 25 plus because the mamas are always crowded.
Me and my friend were camping Redwind, he was lvl 30 and I was 34(rngrs) He aggros Redwind, Redwind turns stops then... Booom!! My friend loses 2 bubbles. Thats a nasty Harm Touch he then casts Clinging Darkness on you to slow you down if he gets the time to notice ya backing up away from him. He hits pretty hard too but not much better than his lvl 25 Ice Orks.
No, Redwind doesn't always open with harm touch. In some rare cases, after you pull him, he runs to you up front or open with some other spell. I myself experienced such case twice before.
He is level 27, always cons blue at 30. I am usually the puller and have had that harm touch hit me for up to 300 damage before. Thats dangerous if snare dose not stick... Other than that he usually goes down fairly easy. (unless he goes in to a fearing spree then he can be a pain on a group)
He is level 27. I spents alot of time at the temple and he conned even to me every spawn at level 27. Blue every spawn after I was level 28. I killed him at least 20 times now and he was always the same. He starts off with a massive damage attack, his harm touch works from a long way away (some touch), but after that is pretyy much like the other icy orcs with a few more HP.
