The DoN snare (Earthen Embrace) works well when he starts to flee. Just remember that you need to be under Sont for spels to land. If you are fighting him in the tunnel, I think he always flees east.

75 Zerk - 2.0 - 12.4khp unbuffed - 724AAs - Tacvi+Anguish Geared

I failed earlier with the same exact buff set (Tenacity, Ranger set, Dire set, as many junk buffs as possible) and made 2 changes before trying again.

1) I put a skinspikes X potion in the second to last spot
2) I put haste in the very last spot.

As a zerk it comes down to killing something before it kills you, so the key was preserving the survival of haste.

Sontalak parsed to 100khp and did about 250dps. Died in 53 seconds. Did not enrage.
I survived with about 70% hp. I did about 1920dps.

Opened with cry havoc + mastruq + berserking + epic clicky. Hit Cleaving once berserking ended. Sontalak was dead before Cleaving ended.

Went from Ally to warmly with one Klandi kill. From warmly to KoS off of Sontalak, right after. Back to Kael I guess. Easy trio at 75 w/cleric + rogue. Prolly coulda duo'd it, but rogue needed Sleeper's Key :)

- edit - the Faction of KoS seems to have been a bug. I logged in to find myself back to kindly, which sounds reasonable. So max Ally - warmly in one Klandi kill, then warm to kind on one Sontalak slay. Did another Klandi on repop, but still low kindly :)

I boxed him with a 11k hp 75 monk anguish/tacvi geared and a 8.2khp 7.5k mana70 ranger qvic geared, monk has about 700aa's and ranger has around 255. The fight was pretty simple not to hard to resist his spells and doesn't hit to hard. I never got below 70% hp on monk, didn't need TS from ranger or anything just ran in and dps'd with weps. All in all about 3 min fight, hes a gimp!

Soloed em last night on cazic was actually a lot easier then i thought. No vet aa's used had to click a insta heal potion a couple times and was about 10m when the fight was over. I had 0 buffs at the end despite me tryin to keep a few clickies up. Fight lasted about 8-9 mins or so resisted everything he threw at me though cept the occasional nuke gettin in for minimal dmg. Fun fight to try solo its a good challenge. He does run at about 8-10% though so may wanna keep em away from other dragons if ya do try em.

Warrior - 70 (Tacvi, OoW raid geared)
Cleric - 70 (Time, Qvic geared)
Druid - 65 (bazaar geared)
Shaman - 65 (bazaar geared)

The fight was straight foward. Keep the aggro on the tank and keep him healed. My shaman went LD about halfway through the fight when feared (bug of some sort?). The warrior got feared a couple times and Sont regened a little HP, but nothing terrible. Sont does flee at low HP (10%?, I know it isn't the standard 20%). The druid DoN snare (Mire Roots? Thorns?) landed about 90% of the time. Just watch your messages since Sont dispells himself too. Also, Sont casts all of his special attacks; therefore, they are based on mana. Sont ran out of mana during my fight and stopped dispelling the tank and himself. It made the fight alot easier since I could sneak in a buff or two toward the end of the fight with fear of it being dispelled.

On a recent trip to WW, to smack a few dragons around, and get some loots to hand out among my fellow players, Myself on a 70 bst, a 70 ranja, and a 70 sk decided to attempt this mob. It was all giggles and laughs as we got him down to 4%, and as he began to flea, he must of had an angel somewhere, as he popped inside the wall in the hallway to ToV, and became unreachable by anything but spells. Since the lot of us had no good nukes, there was no way to kill him.. He regened and later chased us halfway accross the zone to grotto.

I would be advised to pull him out into the center of the cavern to TOV, for fear that he will repeat this process again, and your loots will be lost :-(

I finally been lucky enough to find this mob up the other day, needing a sleeper's key for a cleric friend I deciced to give it a shot.

I tried multiple times to pull him to Dragon necropolice zone line but I guess all the others dragons of the zone were up and wandering, I have not been able to get him single.

70 beastlord 8200's hp unbuffed 1700ish ac boxing 70 cleric. I simply fought him near his spawn point cause it was the only safe place to avoid adds. I miss read his Ae, I tho it was directionnal only but I rapidly found out that it's Area effect and my puppy hitting his back didn't avoid it either 8(.

I had only fake buffs on (I didn't even buff myself altho I should have) my pet was max buffed for a short period of time and the cleric who I was trying to hide was getting raped cause he has no Extended range item and I had to kinda leave him in sigh to patch him while he was Chain CH.

It's a rough fight I guess if you push the veteran AA Infusion which would max your resists would be helpfull #shrug(I haven't tried it on a mob that cast '' CAncel Magic '' but indeed It block the Debuff on a AE DD debuff of some mobs). Cleric was low mana at end and I burned all my discs finished it 8% hp none the less.

Dropped key and rest rotted ( zone always empty and it's kinda long for someone to run there sigh).

oh ya I had also some of the new Healing potions and it helps even if recast time is a bit long. He is also fully slowable but well .. he annul himself and I had to cast 4-5 slow before it actually get in so I just let him unslowed and get damaged by my DS.

Chosen of Norrath did this tonight on Lanys server. We had 4 grp's with an average lvl of 64. Not real easy but not as hard as we all thought. We used the tactics shown here, wiped the first time at 10%, and went at him again to take him down. he dropped only spells and the taisman =( but all in all still worth it if your guild is going to try for ST. Next time maybe we will get a BP to drop...

Sontalak can be evaded even while naked as a 65 shaman... Details below.

I died in a ToV raid and had to run back naked to have my corpse summoned. Taking the long route running, I went from PoK to GD, EW, Kael, WL, SS, CS, SG, and WW to get to ToV.

While self buffed, I have 2044 HPs and a little under 600AC.

In SG, I just invis'd by the first mob, stood on the ledge out of the LoS of that first mob, and summoned a pet. I shrunk myself to get more room for the swim through the tunnel. Jumped in and sicked the pet seahorse on the right, which was guarding the tunnel, and hugged the left wall all the way through. Made it out of the water w/o taking any dmg and ran the rest of the way after becoming invisible.

In WW, I ran up to the ramp right before Sontalak and summoned a pet. I then rearranged my buffs so that SoW was the last slot and memorized Spirit of Cheetah. I read on this thread that you could run by him by levitating over his head, so I decided to try it. I ran out and to the west, up the slope, and got into position at the top of the "Scar" to float across. Spirit of Cheetah was taking much too much time to get ready, so I used Spirit of Scale instead. I ran past and I aggro'd Sontalak, but I didn't get hit by his fire AE. Instead, he melee'd me for a round with a flurry (total of 7 attacks) and dispelled 4 buffs off of me. I had 804/1350 when I zoned into ToV.

In my opinion Sont is pretty easy. Granted i have only been on a few Sont raids...but hey
Sont has very low hps for his calibur of a dragon. What i think needs to be done is this...
Have everyone gather/buff at the ToV zone. 4-6 junk buffs with 2 instaclicks. Have most important ones last and so on. When you are ready have everyone sneak up, but not into agro range. Have MA agro him so he turns and AE taunt/defensive disc to grab agro. He does not hit especially hard, but need to have a decent CH rotation on him. Because of his AoE/Dispell thing make sure that there is a druid/pally someone not slowing or in the rotation that is healing the group and people that are in the rotation. make sure you keep you CH clerics alive!! Also slow him as often as you can because of his self dispell. Lay in heavy with the nukes and he will be dead in no time. 100k hps is a very low amount and 400 melee dmg is also low. BUT his loot compinsates for this. His BP's are decent, but rarely drop. the spells are nice, but the main reason he is killed is for ST keys (his talisman). Hope this helps when thinking of trying him. Oh...make sure you bring a bard. Dragon fear is not hard to resist, but it can be very bad if MA/healers/debuffers/slowers are feared. Another thing, dont give up. If it looks like you are gonna wipe and you only have paper tanks left. You can most likely kill him before he kills you if you have enough dps.

If you needed to get 40 people their Sleeper's Tomb key, would you need to kill this guy 40 times? Does he drop more than one talisman or do you just need one key per group to get in?

We are about to start on this quest if it is worthwhile, meaning that we don't have to kill every dragon 40 times.

Not necessarily sont 40 times but yes 40 first brood dragons, each drops one talisman per time. Takes a while to farm, just got to catch them all up, you can get Sont about every 2 days then you have to watch for the 4 others. There's also the one off Tmax and rarely off vindi/velk.

If your guild is made up of others of similar level as yours, I would think you would need many more members than 30. If your raid average level is higher, your equipment decent, you have a good mix of classes, then you can do it with less. I saw a link where 6 rangers claim to have taken him down. I tend to believe them. I am sure they were all 65 with many AA points and quality equipment.

On our server, he tends to stay up awhile before he is taken down. If your guild likes to try new encounters, even if they fail, I suggest you read up on his tactics and give him a try. You will quickly learn where you stand against this guy.

Very tough, we wiped once before killing him. Try it this way, have at least 4 junk buffs up, a bard is a must. We used pets. Let MT grab some agro then all of our casters bum rushed the belly and just chain nuked. Entire fight lasted just one minute 13 seconds. He resists a lot so I used nukes that cast quickly rather than big nukes. DPS is the key, you want to kill him fast, the longer you fight the more AE damage you are going to eat.

Tried this 3 times on Saturday and OMG is he hard! We got him down to 40% health before wipe out. His 650 AE is unresistable. Casters cant hide behind walls to block AE DD etc, his AE hits where ever you are. Definately not worth reward as there's mobs like Trakanon, who is 10 times easier, who drops far better bps than these.
RE: WTF!
# Aug 24 2002 at 8:04 PM Rating: Good
You do not drop Sontalak for BP's. You drop him for 2 main reasons:

1. He exists (and is a good benchmark for your guilds capabilities)

2. He drops a Talisman for the Sleepers Tomb key. For guilds to advance, Primal weapons are a huge bonus (very good stats and they proc Avatar on the weilder) and the only place to get them is in Sleepers Tomb.

btw, the BPs that Trak drops are not that great either. SS or Kael BPs are the way to go if your guild can take down Trak.

melee is pretty weak, but flurries (hit me under 300)

procs 702 dd when he hits you...and procs a LOT

AEs for 650.
AEs fear.

dispells 1 buffs when fighting from side, 4 when fighting him head on.

has about 80-90k hp.

he dispells himself so if you debuff, you have to keep re-debuffing

WE tried him over the weekend for the first time. I am not sure on numbers but we got him between 50 and 65% (conflicting results). We have ganked Vindi several times and this guy is one hell of a lot tougher. Anyone have any strategies they can share that may help us out on our next attempt?

All these posts of people getting whacked down...I've seen it done recently so I imagine it should still work, good ol Harmony. Pop him or have someone else pop him with it, run by, done.

That used to work, Ive harmonied him lots of times, but last time I were running to tov, bout a week ago, he seemed to have a much larger aggro range and aggroed me long before I came to casting range.
Same happened today when I was omw to tov, tried to harmony but aggroed before I got in harmony range. waiting for a rez now :))

He also drops Voice of the Berserker and the Unspoken Word. Both are very rare spells.

Just read over on graffe.com 's forum that
a group of 12 wizards mana burned him, modded
down, and then finished him off with regular
nukes.
