I started out on the Tundra of EF early, pulling mammoth calfs at lvl 6. I ran into these and killed them, got exp for it, but I still kill them now for the relatively amazing loot. Sure, the venom sacks are worth 4gp, but its the spider silks that have financed me through my lvls. You can sell those to tailors for 1pp each! These things drop like 2 at a time, and they're a common drop. With all the money I've gotten I've purchased
:a full set of banded armor, except for a Lockjaw hide vest(which I use when I need to be light) ,a bronze breastplate, splitpaw hide gloves, plate boots, and a Cloak of the Ice Bear. :An Axe of the Iron Back and a Drakkel Forged Icereaver :4 10 slot 10% Weight Reduction backpacks
I've also used enough money to hit lvl 64 in Fletching (god Fletching is EXPENSIVE!)at lvl 13, but I had all the other stuff at lvl 9. When these spiders die they shouldn't go "Wreeeeeee", they should go "Cha-Ching".

Great thing about these is that they are right by the halas zone and every spiderling and large (not giant, cause they are not near) will agro on you. I will just stand in one place and kill, turn, kill, turn . . . . Then when the going gets tough just run up to the guards, although they are usually all dead before it gets really tough.
The spell you get is the level 5 spell Sicken. I have done the quest twice with my Barbarian Shaman and got the same spell both times. They sell to vendor for about 8sp, or you could give it to a newbie.
The NPC that gives the quest is Waltor Felligan and he can be found outside the guild hall to the left in the corner.
If you do the quest, make sure that you have plenty of food, or else your character will eat the fungus (strange but true)
They would seem to be good creatures for lowlies to kill, but because of their placement in the zone, out on the tundra as opposed to the newbie area in the canyons, it is far too dangerous for anyone less than lvl 6 to hunt them effectively. They spawn around creautures that are highly aggresive and wouldn't hesitate to rip into a low level character. They are mostly ignored except for people hunting them for their silk.
Unlike the wooly spiderling, even though the large wooly spider may be the same lvl as a wooly spiderling, it has poison. Be sure to have cure poison in ur memorized spells if ur hunting these!
