Generated Living Shield

I thought I had the routine as a 57 druid. KEI, soe, chloro, damage shields, virtue were all fine enough buffs. Mana pool was over 4000. Dotted, ran, dotted, ran back and forth while he chased me. I even got to sit a bit and med (like for 6 seconds at a time while he ran back into my spell range!).

But then the third time he generated a LIVING SHIELD - a bulthar who ran with him. The couple of times I brushed them as I ran past they stunned me. So after the herdleader died, I had to deal with his living shield (snare root dot dot dot dot, etc.) At the end of it all, I had about 20 mana left.

By the way, he and his herd can be found at the bottom of the cliffs just northeast of the entry to Skyshrine.

Just my suggestion to what happened to you.

I personally dont believe he "summons" or "creates" a living shield. I think what might happened to you was, that while you where running around with him, you came through this circleway near to the originally bultharcamp. One of the others will have aggroed onto you, and now was running together with his chief past you.
WHILE running with him, many mobs have the ability to take other NPCs as (same as the message you might have gotten) "living shields". That means, that if youre in combat (and ONLY there) the damage you deal onto the one who has taken another as ls, will not get the full infigth damage, but it will mostly go onto his "ls". If I remember correctly, thats an warriorability.
So if you are fighting those NPCs magically (so as you with your dots, or wizzes with their blasts...) you also will notice those message, but due to his working, it WONT have ANY effect onto your battle!
Hope that cleared a bit your confusion of this battle :-))

Does anything assist him?
# Sep 26 2003 at 6:47 AM Rating: Default
I don't see any reference to anything assisting him, so a 54+ necro should be able to get agro with either stacking a bunch of DoT's on him (Asystole for debuff, Splurt and Plague for longevity and E-Bolt for pure ****** off mob LOL) or lifetapping the crap outta it with Deflux, then agro-kite it around while the rogue pet backstabs the bejeezus out of it?

Just thought I would throw that out there to get an opinion, since I don't see any necro's posting, just a bunch of nature boys and girls.

All 4 Bulthars sit at the bottom of the tower in Cobalt Scar. Three are close together, with a wandering fourth one that roams a short distance up the beach, then back. All 4 bulthars will agro if you grab one, unless you use harmony, pacify, or some such agro reduction spell. Then, you can safely pull one out.

Reminder. The herd leader CANNOT BE SNARED OR ROOTED. You receive a message saying "cannot change the speed of this creature". So, be careful if you try this bad boy. He hits hard and fast.

Actually, in an odd twist of fate perhaps I was able to single pull him with the other 3 popped. I was walking around the rock that he stands by, east of him I believe, to try to get a target of him from the back and he aggroed me single, this happened at level 57 when all of them were still dark blue to me. Perhaps it was a chance occurance or maybe this spot works well for aggroing just him since you're not applying the aggro to him but rather gaining it.

When i was about a 50 druid i took this guy out with another druid who was there too. What we did is this:
1 i hit him with a DD...he runs after me, and i kite him around in a circle with the other druid in the middle casting dots/dd on him. When other druid gains aggro, switch. He runs him around while i cast dot/dd on him. Switch back and forth as needed. Eventually one dead mob.

i find this hilarious, i'm a level 51 druid, and have read every post here, he does this u can or can't do that, first off let me spell this out.
AS a druid i can not snare he is immune to run speed changes, he does not summon outta the 200+ times i have killed him trying to get improved camo (Which is a rare drop), i have seen him drop gems, the hide, and only 2 spells, he isn't a hard kite with KEI or C4, Please chose c4 if u can get it *G* as u will not have time to med, he runs as fast as a lvl 30 sow, but can be outrun... he will aggro onto anybody from 75-99% health even if u are at the top of the hate list (Accidently got someone killed cause i found this out the hard way)

um, he don't gate and he casts no spells, all you got to do is run him around till hje dies, not hard, just takes along time if you got little mana pool like i do, he dosn't summon he dosn't cast and he can't be rooted or snared and he hits in the 150-300 range and fast so don't let him get close

Our shaman tanked him, with the slow on. Only for the HL's last bub or so, but that's still a fair while. The herdleader doesn't seem to have all that many hp. Three dots from me (necro 53), three or four from the shaman (51), and a couple nukes and a dot from the druid (51 or 52), plus pet damage. The druid had his enchanter on the other computer, and she might have gotten a nuke or two in; he's good with the two keyboards. Ten k sounds about right.

I tried insidious retrogression, a disease-based spell with a snare component to see if he would be immune to the whole spell because of his immunity to the snare. He resisted the whole thing, even with scent of darkness on him, but I don't know if he always would.

He does not give any faction hits when you kill him.

To the post below about if he summons or not. Yes he does summon, but only when you run too fast away from him after attacking. If he still think he can run after you, then you won't get summoned.

Also, he have around 20-25k hp. But he does regen fast, so he might gave the impression of having alot more HP if you let the fight go long.

I charmed the heardleader and had him attack his 1 friend while i ran circles around with the other. about 3 charms later (18secs ea.) the one was so low i charmed/memwhiped and then killed him. repeated for 3rd lil guy chasing me and the Big guy still had 70%. I dotted him a few times then ran him back to his area and selo ran over the water to lose aggro. his hp's arent worth the fight.

About 37-50k HP...
# Jul 19 2001 at 11:44 PM Rating: Default
I just killed this guy today on Lanys Tvyll. Thur aug 19 2001. I thought he might be easy so i put up monk pet (i am 58nec btw), and cast pyrocur, Splurt, vexing mordinia, and Envenomed bolt. Well, he hit me once and pet aggrod, i had taunt off but he instantly went for pet. Killed pet in about 15 seconds maybe 30... then i got kinda worried... Well to put a long story short... throughout the hour it took me to kill him (i ran outta mana plenty of times), I put a total of about 37-40k spells DoT and couple lifetaps on him. 25 splurts exactly, 2 Vexing mordinia, 2 pyrocur, 1 envenomed bolt, and 1 plague a druid cast about 6 spells on him as well... i believe 5 starfire-ish spells and one dot with death in then name i believe...(thank god, i think thats what kept him dying while i medding while waiting for him to catch up). He died 1 hour later, dropped a carnelian and balthor hide or whatever,no money, never summoned me... Hope this clears up something/anything.

OMFG, I'm a 51 necro now, and have been hunting killing this stupid git since 44. Granted he has many more HP than wyverns, and gives about the same xp. I honestly can't believe they you, a 58 necro can't kill this guy in less than 5 minutes. FEEEEAAARRRR KIIIIIIITEEEE moron. Obviously yer monk pet will die in a few seconds, even I know the pet has significantly less hp than the lev 49 pet. here's the scoop... sit pet up at safe rock (rock near tower), and turn taunt off. pull heardleader to first othimar camp, (splurt is a good one for this, since he can't be snared) send pet in ( allows a lil lag time b4 pet gets there to gain agro and you can FD if you pull more than him. as pet starts to whack away, fear, dot, dot dot dot. sit. when fear breaks, refear. BOD as necessary. Keep yerself about 250 mana to play with, to refear if it breaks quickly, or the FD if absolutely necessary.

Put will NOT gain agro, with all the dots you have on him, (esp. with asytol on him) so let pet do the damage. HL will go down in a few castings of splurt ( 1.5 min dot, so about 5 min)

I can't believe I read your post. You made me ashamed to be a necromancer. Please, go back to befallen, and learn some Skillz. "ONE DOT WITH DEATH IN THE NAME"?? WTF IS THAT? LEARN YOUR CLASS (or just Ebay another character, as you apparently did this time.) ~p.s. Try a warrior, all you have to do is look at the mob and press "A"

OK, lets go back. About 1.5 years before you were. Perhaps reading skills is not your 'thing' but when the first post was made, there were very little posts about it. I was one of the first few to solo it on my server to actually kill him(most trained to SG or Skyshrine). There were not focuses, Luclin, LoY, PoP, and the rest were not released. I probably had about 1k HP buffed.

Now compare that to what you may have had nearly 2 years later, with all the expansions and focuses and whatnot. And realise that its pointless for you to debate something when clearly the problem is in your lack of reading comprehension.

PS Winged death is a druid dot not a necro(has nothing to do with learning my class).

All these posts contradicting each other makes me wonder if mobs are slightly different from server to server. The basic attributes are most likely the same, i.e. hit points, attack damage, but I wouldn't be suprised if there were a few tweaks here and there. I'm sure there could be a lot of reasons for something like this to be the case...

Lot`s of wrong information here.

1.) I (56 Ranger) killed him without problem with a 54 Shaman.

2.) We were able to slow him (several times) and we were able to snare
him (it always took me several attempts though).

3.) No special loot. He can drop spells and gems...just like the other mobs
in the zone.

4.) He did summon me once. I guess he will only summon if you are too far
away....like trying to run away...but build up plenty of "hate" points already,

I've engaged this beast 3 seperate times in the past two days. I was with a 55 or a 50 necro each time, and a necro and 51 enchanter the 3rd time.

At level 54 he gored me for 145 points a lot. The parsed log showed 85 to 99 average damage per hit for all melees. Snare, root, and the necro dark spells would generate an "immune to spells..." message. You can't slow them or root them. This fella was highly magic resistant. One necro dark spell took ( but didn't slow it a bit ) and one necro DoT spell took. I never landed snare (resisted all) but Call of Flame hit for full damage 8 of 10 times.

My recommendation is be prepared to pull this fella to the Othmir. They will engage him and kill him (any Bulthar I've seen so far). If you have a group of 4 or more that includes a warrior as main tank, I'd certainly give it a try. What does he drop? He did not summon or cast in any of the encounters I had with him.

I think we killed this thing once in Cobalt on the Rodcet server. IT was kindof an accident cause it just showed up and I ended up running in a circle forever while two or so other groups killed it. All it dropped was a bloodstone ring or something like taht and i still don't know what the ring is for. Not really any stats on it and it only sells for a few gold to vendors.

This guy popped last night when me and my guildmates were hunting Bulthar and Othmir for exp.
We had a 58 Ranger, 55 Warrior, 54 Enchanter, 54 Cleric, 51 SK, 55 Rogue
We ended up with the the Herdleader and 2 Bulthar.
We were able to beat all 3 but the Herdleader is indeed highly magic resistant, my drain spells all took but no snare of any kind worked. Was easily the toughest mob I have had the displeasure of fighting in CS so far, though have not fought the Othmir Chief yet.

It did drop the Bloodstone ring, no idea what it is for because I did not loot, and all our Rogue could say was we had Firebeetle loot on it.

This nasty customer does have close to 10k hitpoints, we were lucky that we work well together and that our Enchanter did not have to tough a time with the Bulthar or we may not have won this battle.

..killed the fellow a couple of times now. I'm a 55 bard and I teamed up with a 51 druid to kite him. He's immune to snare, root and the like, as a previous post says. He and the other Bulthor seem to be especially resistant to cold. My fire and magic based dots stick well, though, and the 51 druid was able to land her spells most of the time after my dots debuffed. The herdleader conned yellow and red to my friend but blue to me both times, indicating it spawns at 52 to perhaps 54. He drops runes, bloodstone rings, gems and quest gems. Tons of hps.
